See the Dan Wheldon tribute brings tears to my eyes; may he rest in peace...
Absolutely love Dario, Dixon, and tony as 1,2,3. Dans 3 best friends. You can’t make that up
Well, you could, but Hollywood couldn't script a better 1-2-3 finish
Really wanted Tony to win glad TK got his moment the next year
I was really happy that Dario, Scott, and TK were 1, 2, 3. If you think about what these three guys went through over the last seven months, this was a very emotional moment. In October, they said goodbye to their friend and former teammates and we’re even pallbearers at his funeral. I was very happy to experience Tonys win the following year. When I found out that he was going to join chicken ass you with love Scott and Dario, I was extremely happy to finally see all three of these guys race under the same team. Unfortunately, this never happened due to Dario‘s career ending rack. Even though I was disappointed about that, He knew it was the right time.
That was Dario Franchitti's final career win.
Because Dan Wheldon died a few months before this race, I decided to not watch it because I would feel so sad to watch it without our last year's winner. I loved Dan Wheldon. His death was so tragic. So I was hoping that a British driver would win in 2012 to dedicate his victory to him. And yes, Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500 for the 3rd time! I was happy it was him and not another driver.
Takuma raced with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2012 and he spun after white flag.
8 years later, he took second Indy 500 victory with the same team.
He said he paid them back.
The story began from here.
First Indy 500 I ever watched. Greatest race I ever watched.
it was better in the late 80/early 90's, go watch Indy 89-93 to see the best ever.
@@davidca96
I did, and they were great. But personal connection to a race is personal connection, it cannot be replicated by watching videos of old races
@@davidca96 yep. Ilmor Chevys, Ford Cosworths, Buick V6s, etc. The best IndyCar years.😎
At the 2:00 mark of this video, "a race like no one's watching"..how eerily prophetic...
I am pleasantly surprised to see Takuma Sato doing so well here. He was a bit mediocre in F!, but seems to come into his own in Indy racing.
Too bad Japan doesn't give a crap.
Old F1 drivers raced in 2012 Indy 500 is.
Jean Alesi
Sebastien Bourdais
Takuma Sato
Justin Wilson
and Rubens Barrichello
Don't forget Alonso
Jean Alesi was never part of an Indy 500 race. I think you mix him up with Ernesto Viso.
@@TheColinChapman hum, have you watch those indy 500 2012??🙄...
p vincent yes I did, and Jean Alesi eas listed as an entry, but never set a qualifying time.
Ryan Briscoe and ej viso also served as test drivers back in the day as well
I screamed so hard when they took the white flag, not because Sato crashed but because there was a power blackout in my town just at that moment and i had to wait like 4 hours to see the end of the race

Smashing race! Dario Franchitti sure didn't leave much room for Takuma Sato.
There are dozens or hundreds of fantastic Asian drivers in motorsports. It's unfortunate fans gravitated towards a maniac who tried to get himself and other people killed in almost ever race he drives. His two indy wins are only because he couldn't find a crash he liked enough.
@@obscurereference6298 cry about it
The 2012 Indianapolis 500 was the most dramatic one in the 26-year History of the Greatest Spectacle in Auto Racing on Philippine Television that became known for the battle for the vacant Borg-Warner Trophy, which came after the death of Dan Wheldon. It was aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on Net 25 on May 28, 2012, as the Race was hosted by William Thio, with Matt Pareja, Randy Sacdalan, and David Hobbs as commentators, alongside Edwil Zabala, Alta Villanueva-De Dios, Bonnie Bernstein, Ralph Sheheen, Joy Maico, Matt Yocum, Olivia Naguit, Krista Voda, Ejay Payumo, and Michelle Beisner-Buck as Pit Reporters
Had Sato just been patient he would have gotten Dario out of turn 2 on the backstretch I have zero doubts.
Sato would get his revenge when he ended Darios career.
This was Sato's race to lose.
@@patrickreynolds3697 Every race is Sato's to lose if he crashes enough people.
In 2011I used to think racing is the answer to all of our problems, but then I saw racing invented new problems, Real devastating problems, tragic of Dan Wheldon showed us why, he was the perfect balance between us and racing, he taught us that life needs a balance, racing can improve our lives but so can people, if we focus on one expense of the other that’s when the balance is lost, The racing world will find its way again, this time with Dan Weldon our compass

Let's hope that in 2020 Inde 500 will take place
It is spelled I-N-D-Y
This was a tough Indy 500 without Dan Wheldon this was my 11th 500 great race great finish miss this style of racing at Indy we had it at the end of this year's race with Pagenaud and Rossi though
The next Indy 500 telecast I want to see is 1998 or 1997
Lately all they have been doing is uploading races that their IndyCar channel has already posted, except these are monetized. 2013 is missing the key restart, too, but they have not addressed it.
Glad we got The Mayor's view on that last restart
1:22:10 Wait, DID THEY… DID THEY PUT REAL GONE FROM CARS IN THE INDY 500 BROADCAST?
Last two laps 3:06:36
I hated when they were transferring everything over to digital TV. You had all these fuzzy spots so often that it would make things nearly unwatchable.
My belief is that Dan Wheldon's death is most similar to the death of Payne Stewart
3:15:15 his wife says Dan would be so proud of you... tears

Franchitti gave Sato no space at all to run the bottom.
The shit music they picked for in/out of commercial breaks was sooooooo bad.
So sick of hearing about the Andretti Curse. Indy made the Andretti's a fortune. None of them were ever hurt.
Actually, that's not entirely true. Jeff Andretti suffered severe leg injuries in the 92 race from a head on crash and never was the same after that.

3:08: "Ashley Judd. We know she can count to three; she just proved it. " My only relationship with Judd is recognizing her name. That's it. We have never crossed paths. I heard she has or had some serious mental health issues. I could be wrong, but the commentator must have heard it through the grape vine. If so, that is a really dumb thing for a fully grown adult to say. Seriously, we're talking bar-setting low levels of idiocy.
you are over thinking things. Ashley Judd was very much around indycar a lot when she was with Dario. they all knew her. they were poking fun nothing more.

Shame on Fuzzy Hulman George Vison for screwing up the somber and silent moment of Taps with an ill timed tribute to a foreign race car driver on Memorial Day Weekend.

People should pay attention to some of Penskes wins. Watch them bully and molest other teams pit stops while Rogers team gets away with the same stuff. They have intentionally took out the strongest cars to allow Rogers team to have the upper hand. People should pay attention. I stopped going to the 500 once I saw it in person with my own eyes.
