Raf Simons is so sophiscated on this show. I wish Balenciaga went back to have him as a creative director. Balenciaga these days is just for the masses
When I was younger, I’ve taken Raf Simons’ Dior for granted as his clothes are not flared with drama and extravagance in the way Galliano did. But now, learning more about fashion and see how Dior kinda went downhill, I appreciate Raf Simons’ modernistic take on Dior even more because he provides an interesting vision in my honest opinion that’s accessible but packs with punches. Not to mention how his clothes seems to float and have this lightness despite being very structural and meticulous in the construction. The way he integrates art into his collections is even more daring I mean Sterling Ruby like c’mon!
just watched Dior and I, and it took me back to when I watched this show! and I had to come back and take the whole show in from an entirely new perspective. amazing show, amazing film.
Paul LostRubys Indeed.. watching Dior & I gave us access to the creative process behind Raf' 1st Dior presentation. There was a lot of pressure on this man from stakeholders, Dior fans and most of all himself. Towards the tail of the film, emotions were abound. Which brings me back here rewatching this show - absolutely Sublime!!
This collection amazes me by how well raf simons translated his style into dior. He managed to bring a frwsh element with respect for its history. Plus the Aphex Twin soundtrack is the cherry on top!
Omg this collection made me teary-eyed; such a gorgeous, supreme collection! Even the music was awesome! Anybody who bought any of these dresses, they will still be wearable years from now and still look fresh. Raf was genius at Dior. He should've stayed there.
He did SO WELL with this show. He's such an intellectual, he has the capacity to really understand a brand and design around it's heritage, with his personal touch. Like the work he did at Jil Sander CK. I cannot wait to see what he does at Prada.
Hahaha...you posted this 2 years ago and Maria is still a disappointment to this day ---> that garbage circus "haute couture" show from a few weeks ago?!!! I CAN'T!
In my opinion I think Raf Simon is bringing about a needed change at Dior. I loved the showmanship of Galliano, but even couture has to stay with the times--in other words, it needs to have a modicum of wear-ability. Few of Galliano's Dior couture pieces find appeal outside of flashy trophy wives and Oscar nominees. The pieces in this collection are "ready-to-wear" while still having the skilled sewing and non-staple, luxury fabrics that define haute couture. I think his collections in 2013 and 2014 have improved from this one. My favorites are 3:49, 5:01, 7:21, 9:46, 12:06, 15:16, 17:01, and 18:27.
Carter Connell well how many women outside of "trophy" wives as you call them can actually afford Haute Couture.I do not know one woman who buys her own Haute Couture. And I know people.
Franco Andres well with that logic, how many people in the world can afford dior, period? i sure can't. but if i could, i would love to wear some of these pieces everyday
Carter Connell Simons is riding on the crest of the popularity that John Galliano brought to the label, Couture is paid for by the sales of make-up and Parfum, I know a few of the couture clients, but I have been working in Parisian Haute Couture for nearly 3 decades...and Diors Couture sales are plummeting. It is true that the trophy wives, royalty and mega stars can afford it, otherwise it is Dior ready-to-wear for the rest of the world. Each Dior piece is hand made to the client with multiple fittings, and a mannequin is made for each regular clients bodies. Simons will not last long, the hoopla surrounding him is fading fast, but this will create a certain buzz around his ready to ear clothes...Dior will suffer and need another creative flamboyant genius to expand the Dior allure soon.
Kevin Jewell oh please, raf simons is doing an amazing job at dior and the sales are hardly plummeting. i don't need to be working in couture to see tons of people in the streets dior by raf
goliaboi Here what I've learned about Haute Couture from document and talk show. This is more like a fancy or high level of fashion event. Where each piece will be made by hand. This Haute Couture is different 10x time than the personal brand show. Haute Couture is an exhibit of fashion art where you gonna go for creation and how wonderful the cloth gonna made by fabric, detail, cut and shape. Those piece's price are not unbelievable cost that no one can buy (Famous celebrity, queen, princess of millionare or even women has high income can still purchase unless they gonna buy a "SIGNATURE PIECES OF THE SHOW". They can buy Haute Couture piece with discount if they have a right size with it (like second - hand wear). I basically agree with Kevin cause all I can see in the show is something that many other brand can do, nothing different MUCH. I don't see "DIOR" in here. I see a " high fashion brand". He should use this collection for DIOR show but not in the Haute Couture.
Although I still prefer the extreme romanticism and at times insanity of Galliano's Dior, I love the elegance and classicism of Raf Simons' Dior. Maria Grazia Chiuri is not on the same level.
Dior & I brought me here. Though I had no idea in Fashion business, the movie was so interesting. I could entirely feel sympathy for every person and excitement at the moment of haute couture. The ending scene was so great and hadn't any space but catharsis. The movie was so good. I'd like to watch YVS movie and Chanel movie, too. k This show lets me know the beauty of modern fashion is not only a slave of merchandising, also beyond vanity fair. I learned this is a sort of true aesthetic value. Also, this show was so helpful in widening my music taste. I like this kind of electronica ones.
+NADS IQ Now i get it. Thanks for the movie indication. I think that this doc are beautiful, but most for show the dior atelier work. Raf looks very inconspicuous in this movie as a fashion designer...
+Holden Weatherfield One documentary that I liked to and wich focus is even more on the atelier and the couturières is the documentary "signé chanel". It´s somewhat older but it really shows the process of creating a collection. Sadly most of it is in french and the subtitles aren´t always perfectly translated but it´s still nice.
Really don't sure about the more complicated work under Galliano... I thought the same for a long time but now I'm working in couture, I changed my point of view. They were lot more embroideries and volume, but doesn't mean the work is bigger compares to an hard tailoring or shaped dress. No ?
19:54 She's Esther and this was her first runway show ever. I did watch "Dior and I" too. We can also see L'wren Scott in the back like an angel in her own halo of melancholia. And I just got emotional when Monsieur Simons cried when that show became too overwealming. We can see also Allegra Versace for an instant. Amazing documentary.
The mood is amazing and the clothes manage to look severely modern and fresh. The silhouettes are recycled for sure yet, they fit the brief so perfectly. Its easy to imagine them in public maintaining poise, dignity and freshness! The soundtrack is elitist/cultivated trance. Love the Satie-esque piece toward the last 4 minutes of the show. The details in the clothes are amazing and better evaluated in real life, not online. A very smart and laid back excellence that suits Dior and this moment.
"Dior & I" gave me an awareness of what the House of Dior is all about... therefore i salute Raf for this first collection.. his genius manipulation with fabric really inspires me.. but, i loved the designs Galliano made and they always take my breath away.. to quote someone from the documentary "The Secret World of Haute Couture" the outfits are done to the specifications of the ultimate wearer.... so whether it be Galliano's or Raf's designs, at the end of the day, the wearer will still wear Dior...
1. I MISS HIM. 2. People saying it looks like RTW, watch Dior and I, the work behind every single piece is incredible. 3. The soundtrack gave me life. 4. This is the perfect mix between show, couture and wearable, sorry but Galliano was just all about the show, he fets perfectly in MMM.
Wow comparing this to the 2003-2007 haute couture years my goodness it has definitely changed I like the old Dior better with galiano (if j spelled that right) he did some of the best and and outrageous designs that were risk takers for haute couture but worked for it cuz couture is something that u don't see everyday and this collection looks too much like ready to wear for me
agreed! See Anna Wintour's reaction at 20:00, she took her glasses from awe to see the details, could see how excited she got. That dress was very Impressionist, too - must have been a feast of detail.
Indeed. John studied at Central Saint Martins as well as Mcqueen, and they were some of their most prestigious students. I think Galliano´s outstanding imagination, would be great for Schiaparelli, as maison that had it´s roots in the surrelist movement. Also his unique use of the bias cut, that was very fashionable at the 30´s with Madeleine Vionnet and Schiaparelli, would be very suitable for this couture house. Lets hope he return to the fashion world!!!
The whole collection is just impeccable. Those cigarette pants with the short tops are fabulous. The bar jacket theme running throughout is so clever and respectful to M. Dior. I'd buy this whole collection, especially that red bar coat.
Thank you for this absolutely adorable show. It was to die for. I love the color contrast of the clothing and the set design. It was so classy and elegant. It reminds me of an idea I had awhile ago that I was too afraid to express. I love fashion and I have now been inspired to turn my crazy works of art into a reality. Thanks to my family support but anyways Christian Dior's crew never fails me. I don't care about John Galliano's racist egotistic self-centered ... this was a stupendous show!
You can totally see Anna Wintour absolutely in love towards the end when she keeps pointing out certain dresses, it's just ridiculous how she has to keep lowering her sunglasses just to see! Take them off!

The frightening thinness of the models aside, this is a beautiful collection. One of the most elegant I've seen. Especially love the midnight tulle worn by Kinga Rajzak, who was great to see here, after seeing her sobbing at Simon's last Jil Sander show. So sweet!
Superb collection... All these attires are so much wearable. Black color always gives a royal look and these outfits are awesome. I loved collection of Designer Sai Suman Khanna on Nevanta. SHe has wonderful collection.
Incroyable. Intelligent. The music selection, well, just as always, what you get from Raf, makes you think. Full of references. (Aphex Twin: Window Licker, Aphex Twin: Jynweythek Ylow from Marie Antoinette Soundtrack) I can't escape the thought that he was also saluting to Galliano when he picked the song from the Marie Antoinette soundtrack. Remember the Leibovitz shoot in US Vogue with the special Dior pieces? by Galliano... It's a stunning gesture. Bravo!
Beautiful...yes, but how sad at the same time. Those flowers that ornate the walls...there for only a few days, a few hours...their cost ie. the orchids, alone, would be enough to feed the population of a starving village or provide clean well water for life and/or electricity. Don't get me wrong, I love beautiful design and fashion, but priorities are priorities. Our world needs to evolve on a humanitarian level. See movie "Salt of the Earth." It speaks truth. We are not as "evolved" as social media makes us out to be.
people stop moaning about galliano! it's a new chapter for him in his life and career. he spent many years working for dior creating all those wonderful and dramatic collections but now he is doing something else! you cannot just criticise current designer for being minimalist. it's a pretty collection and in fact it's quite early to judge his ideas!
I think they Galliano style is incredible, under his direction Dior evolved as all couture houses have, and his 'frivolous' style i.e. the crinoline dresses from S/S 09 became synonymous with Dior style. I understand what Raf Simons is trying to achieve and Christian Dior has always enthralled me so I can appreciate it. It's (ironically) a 'new' Dior. We can be sentimental for Galliano's genius and perfect pairing with the house and appreciate what Simons is doing in essentially Dior minimalism.
Esta pasarela fue algo de lo mas bello que hevisto esta fue parte de que amara la moda y la alta costura a qui encontre el camino y respiro de mi alma 😍😍
GEE WHIZ! ONE bodice design- 'tweak' a little; add a peplum again 'tweaked' a little; straight skirt, full skirt, shorter, slit, no slit, longer, pockets/no pockets; pencil slacks-you've seen 1 you've seen them ALL. I expected MORE design variety!
The flowers in each room is a treat to look at, so lush. I wished the models were allowed to smirk or smile to bring life to the clothes and each room. Their waistlines were so tiny, but something seemed off. The clothes looked well done, but life and laughter would have been fun to see as well, they just seemed so frail and sad.
and regardless of Galliano's recent behavior, # history shows what a brilliant and magnificent designer he is, AND that cannot be taken away from him, because that is his history.
Almost 7 years and still looks more modern than the disasters Maria Grazia shows
