Brian Tichy: Triplets Inside Triplets (A Triplet Avalanche)

- Not sure how to exactly explain it but..
if this groove is 6/8, the back beat is on the 4th 1/8 note and the left hand ghosts are the 2nd and 6th 1/8 note. Then you add in a double kick triplet inside each ghost note and the accented 4th 1/8 note, creating a “Triplet Avalanche”!!
So, you’re playing a 6/8 groove with off beat- back side- left hand triplets and then adding in 16th note triplets with the double kicks (in my case, I do them LR) and this creates, depending on the listener; either a lovely flurry of broken polyrhythmic speed, or, a complete effing mess, not unlike a 1/2 dozen monkeys throwing the kit down a flight of stairs! 🤪 Drum On! 🥁👍🏼

Brian is a beast on drums.
Peter Criss style riffs.. Love it
Brian you make it look SO simple you are a beast one of the very best!
This is what drumming or playing an instrument in general: create your own sounds, licks, fills, style etc.
Really appreciate these videos, this one in particular. Learning a lot from you sir. Thanks
Just amazing... AGAIN!!!
Fkn great!😅
So solid.
Bonham's love Child!!!😮😮😮
I put the video on 1/2x speed and it makes it easier to hear where the kicks / snare are for me. Very cool.
That snare is YOUR sound. You have achieved what we as rock drummers strive for in having a “signature” snare sound. Love it. I know it’s you without seeing you. Your ability is always impressive, love the kit as well. Makes me want to jump on my kit and play!🤘🏻🤘🏻💪
Thank you very much! A good snare sound has always made my day, especially when it comes through in a recording….🥁👍🏼
@@Briantichydrums I agree whole heartedly. It’s the heart of the kit and getting that sound you hear in your head live or in a recording just makes everything better.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I watched. Mesmerized, perplexed, impressed. Then I was drawn in. Was this an entrance to the nether world? Was he summoning Bonham? I'm scared to watch again.
Yeah! The rock 'n roll version of an Elvin Jones idea, I love it!
Nailed the bonham drum sound or what, wide open and deadly
Superhuman!
Grettings from Las Vegas N.V. Excellent lessons Bryan my great friend. 👍🤙🥁🤙👍
100,000 Years meets Over the Mountain played by Dave Lombardo after 3 espressos
Absolutely 100000 years groove in there.
Круто!)
That’s fuckin’ beast mode!
Wild. It's nice when you're at a level that you can technically explain such intricate/ odd timing patterns. Respect!
not really as he doesn't know what the second rhythm is!
@@morbidmanmusic He's demonstrating humility also, though, which I appreciate. He's strongly educated but doesn't want to come across as a know it all.
I wanna go practice...to an Ah Ha song. Really cool stuff keep it coming!
Proper drum sound right there
I said total Bonham within 7 seconds
I love this !!! It is inspiring !!! I'm going to practice it 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Gamechanger! :D
Hahahaha holy shit that rocked
ゴーストノートがポイントですね!🥁🤗
Could recognize something from Detroit Rock City´s groove. That´s really cool!

Whrre eagles dare🎉
Monster player…
Wasn’t this the drummer for the porn party at EVH’s mansion? Guy is awesome!
Please elaborate on the double kick pattern
I put a LR after each left hand so they are triplets of the triplets in the left hand ..
Insanely cool, consider it stolen!!!!!😆
A HA
This groove is from one of their songs…
This is ripped right from the Steve Smith solo on Journey’s “Captured Live” album. Nothing new or innovative here, give credit to the obvious source, the brilliant STEVE SMITH.
Love Steve Smith! He’s a huge influence … but this was just some jamming based off the groove from 100,000 Years by KISS during Gene Simmons Band rehearsals. We were constructing an arrangement of having both guitarists do solos over that groove and then I’d do a solo. I had a double kick figure I wanted to end with so I improvised some ideas to get to that dbl kick ending and had Jason, one of the guitarists , film it. Yes there are similarities to the Steve Smith solo, but it really came from what we were working on in rehearsal, and trying out the triplet within triplet dbl kick ending ..
You sound so angry you dont even deserve a detailed answer like the one you received from Brian. Your comment makes me laugh, honestly.
Not impressed
Shit! My fault…
I mean can he groove though?😳
