I cant stand when my make up is dirty, I try to always keep it neat and clean😅 I try to make mini collections: lip product, blush, highlight and eyeshadows that kind of match or go well together. Ive always changed my lip product storage a lot: from oldest to newest, from faves to least faves, colour coordinated🎉

Fun! I do similar with a weekly 'minimal' makeup bag by doing a full face out of my whole collection and whatever I use I chuck in a bag, then I use that as my default when getting ready for work in the morning. If i want to use something else I don't stop myself but its easy to use what's in the bag. At the end of the week I empty the bag and repeat

I also like tutorial videos where you don't know the specific products that the person is using to create the look. They just tell you the type of shade or product without the addition of the brand name. This helps me with inspo because I can hear the description of a shade and go "Oh, I think I have a shade like that! I can use it the way this person is using it!" I WISH this type of content was still popular.

I really respect you for not promoting the buy buy buy buy everything at ulta Sephora culture. 99.99% UA-camrs kinda passively endorse that culture. Being a UA-camr is very different than a normal person. Normal people do not need everything at Sephora honestly. Thank you so much for being a sane UA-camr

Tangential subject, but whenever I am feeling the call to spend, I find going through my entire collection really helps! It helps remind me what I have, I always get excited about something I find, and I am reminded that I don’t have space for anything new. Lol.

I do like to search for older videos whenever I need inspiration for my eyeshadow palettes. I also keep my makeup clean. You can usually just wipe it off with your finger or a tissue after each use. I’m a little grossed out when I see influencers use messy palettes. I guess they want them to look used, but it’s just unattractive. Just wipe it off...

I agree! When we were little, our mom used to dump out the toys in our play chest and place the ones that were on the bottom back on top. It was like new toys! Same with your makeup - rearrange it and keep it nice and clean for that new again feeling.

I've been doing deck of panning with my best friend. Instead of the goal of hitting on or finishing a product, we have a 5 time usage goal. 5 products five times each. We made up our own prompts catered to the two of us. It's been really fun.

I have photos of all my palettes (10-11) in a Word document, and if any new palette tempts me, I can compare the online image with my current collection. It's held me off from buying a number of palettes! I can experiment with looks from new palettes this way as well.

With my big collection, I never feel like I'm actually getting bored.. But sometimes when I'm urging to buy a new eyeshadow palette (just for trying something new), I make a random number generator pick 2-3 palettes that I then use to make looks with 😊 Then I get the feeling of having something new with color combos that I might not have thought about 😀

Hannah Louise Poston recently said something about how if she feels a strong pull to a new item it is usually a sign that she already owns something like it. I'm finding that is true for me too. So many palettes I am interested in these days are quite similar to Dirty MartinI, Chocolate Martini, Pastel Dreams and Ambiance or a combo of these palettes. Its made me want to start using a die to pair up palettes randomly and see what new color combinations I get.
    Some recent examples are:
Not a Box of Chocolates by Colourpop is very similar to Ambiance
Huda Beauty's new palette is very similar to Chocolate Martini.
I have recently made a play list for all my palettes and some other makeup I own to watch when I'm bored so I'm not perusing beauty youtube. Watching a lot of videos on new makeup does make me want to shop more.
I've also recently started watching regular tv and listening to audible. Different entertainment resources are good for me to disengage from paying attention to excessive amounts of youtube beauty videos.

Re-organizing is a great idea, and cleaning up all your makeup at least once/twice a year. I also lay it all out by category and color, opened up, so I can see how much I really do have. When you see those seven different peach blushers lying together, you know you don't need another one, but also it makes you want to use them all!

What works for me is curating new palettes with my singles about once a month. I love building new color stories for each month, and then I'll usually choose blushes, highlighters, liners, and toppers to go along with my new palettes. It's so fun! Usually I'll even have outfits in mind to go with the looks I'm planning, as well. You can definitely shop your stash in your closet, too! 😁💜🌻🦋✨

I've often found that craving newness in one's life can point to more deep feelings of stagnation - maybe you're bored with your routine, maybe it's time for a career change, maybe you could afford to set some new goals, etc. While makeup and other material possessions can momentarily alleviate this craving, if it is truly stemming from a deeper desire for a meaningful life change, then the newness will likely have to come from within (e.g., in the form of journaling, trying a new hobby, shifting one's mindset, etc.).
Rather than seeking to fulfill that desire for newness with new things, I try to lean into that feeling and ask myself why I might be feeling this way. It's normal for our goals and desires to change and doing the inside work can prove to be incredibly fulfilling!

So true about organisation. I had most of my makeup in a container too small. I separated out my blushes & now can rotate thru them daily as well as reach products that were buried before. I use decorative plant pots & glasses for storing brushes & pencils ❤️

I organized my palettes on a bookshelf so I can see them all. I also have little organizers in my vanity drawers to be able to view all my other products. I get more use out of older palettes when I see something new that peaks my interest and I go through and try to dupe the vibes before deciding to make a new purchase. I also don't buy anything if it is full price and actually wait for a good sale. If the product no longer peaks my interest once it goes on sale, then that's better for me. I did pick up the Flower Beauty Desert Lights and Jungle Lights palette from Ulta because they were on sale for $12 each and I've been wanting them for so long, but waiting for them to go on sale. That mindset helps me to control my spending.

Another thing: you get used to the look of pans in an older palette and it's not exciting any more. My solution: do some swatches! You kept the palette for a reason, likely because you love some of the colours. Trying them on your hand or arm reignites your enjoyment.

One of the things that help me is having a swatch party of my products. It not only reminds me of what I have, but also how they work. I love these simple tips, especially the makeup re-organization. Every time I do that, my makeup feels so fresh and new! Also, the makeup brush cleaning does make a huge difference. For a while I thought I was going crazy because blushes I thought were different were showing up almost identical on the face. Once I washed my blush brushes I realized the colours had mixed together from going back and forth on the same brush over a few weeks. I had cleaned them on a towel every couple of uses but it didn't do the trick. Clean brushes and the colours showed up much truer to the colours in the pan.

What really works for me is that I mostly do neutral/ minimal or no-makeup makeup looks. That's why I only have two eyeshadow pallets (1. Warm Toned 2. Cool Toned) & I'm good to go.
Trust me I haven't bought a single eye pallets in 2yrs😂. Because any which way I create boring nude looks. So, I never got the urge to buy something new. I've also kept my collection minimal & practical😁💕.

Coming back here after Black Friday shopping, as I purchased two new palettes (Juvia's Place Blushed Rose and Aether Moonlight Crystal) after I said that I have 7 and don't need any more. I do the default panning aswell...for work because I dont have time to think about the tone of the blush matching my eyeshadow and lipstick. I work 12 hour shifts so my combination of products has to last so i wont be mixing up primers foundations and settings powders. But when im off i like to get use out of my other products. I have all my makeup on display on my vanity ( rephr storage modules, clear acrylic organiser and a few plate racks to hold my palettes) but im thinking of reducing the clutter on the vanity by making a seasonal selection and putting the rest in my drawers...its an experiment! The idea with searching for "older videos" is great, i actually do this to get inspiartion with my shadows Patty Alonso has a good selection of 5 looks one pdlette videos which will hopeful bring me through black Friday without nee eyeshadow :D And yes unsubscribe to youtubers that push new product or they trigger you to buy stuff...i love Theresa is dead and Angelica Nyvist but i had to unsubscribe because they trigger me so bad. But if i want reviews on something specific i go back to hear their thoughts . I am at a place where I am happy with my collection...i dont need to mindlessly add more

I don't think I necessarily get bored with my makeup... I just take for granted that I own so much beautiful makeup and need to focus on appreciating it rather than letting new releases turn my head. Some of these suggestions are great for that too though.
It's exciting to me when I get that spark using my makeup that I felt when I first acquired it. Recently this happened with my Menagerie Serenity palette when I tried a different blending technique and with Enchanted when I used the sparkly gold with the matte orange. I don't usually go in to that shimmer at all but I really enjoyed my eye look.
Using a primer helps in some cases too. I don't like to with all my palettes but I've found that the mattes in Dirty Martini and Chocolate Martini need it (at least on my eyes) or they barely show up. I like to use one with Sigma's palettes as well because despite how much I love their shadows. I find that they tend to crease on me.

I recently tried that eyeshadow technique using an eyelash curler as a guide and loved the way it looked. I tried it with my ABH Sultry palette.
When I'm tempted by a new eyeshadow palette, I try real hard to think of what I already have that has a similar color story.

This is an awesome video. Thank you so much, Sarah.
I actually have so much new makeup, I don't even know where to put it, and it's very overwhelming. My vanity is a mess as well, so it isn't fun to put on makeup when my counter is covered in products that look all messy.

Wonderful video Sarah! Agreed in the grubby makeup, can’t stand it when my makeup looks dirty. I tried project panning, definitely not for me. I’m that person who can’t use anything else until that one product goal has been hit so I get so bored and irritated 😂. Now, Shop My Stash - different story, it’s my jam!

I did a low buy/product specific no buy this year and started project panning and via this process I have a) learnt what formulas/finsihes/brands I really love and enjoy b) realised how long it takes to use a product so I am less tempted to buy a new product as I have stuff in my collection that I now know will take 12-18months to use. I also now have a curated collection that I really love and enjoy

Such a good point to clean your makeup. I just cleaned my vanity and also a few of my palettes I am using at the moment lol Can't stand the look of "dirty" makeup. I know some people love that because it looks "well loved". I don't. I want it clean and nice and it's al little annoying that I can't really clean my little highlighter Palette from The Balm since it is cardboard. Love your content! Have a nice day XOXO

Loved that video, personally i have the app tiny decisions and each week i let it choose my makeup and rotate my makeup bag every sunday. It helps me going through all of the products i own but i have a reasonable collection so i guess thats why its so easy to do with this app. 😊

Awesome video!! I really get tempted to purchase when I watch UA-cam reviews, especially on indie brand eyeshadow palettes. However, with the 7 palettes I own, I can almost always find the same or similar colors. Marketing and packaging are so influential and while those new palettes look fun, I can use what I already have.

This is great video topic :) When I want something new I think is that something I already have? Most of the times I do, so I try to remind myself that I have so much makeup in color schemes that I like and can create different looks every day! And when I think about an item for a long time and really want it then I buy it but wait at least 20% off. :)

I start swathing everything lol… I love project panning and it’s mostly what I do in IG. I like to join a lot of project pan because I think of different things for different prompts and put in usage goals 10-20 depending and it gives me a chance to look at all my collection as I’m also trying to finish some specific products.

Perfect timing with Black Friday coming up. This is the hardest time of year for me and my spending. I get stressed and next thing I know I have 20 tabs open with carts full, online window shopping and feeling very overwhelmed. Especially because I often feel obligated to buy all of my family and friends gifts.

It is very inspiring, hit the right spot, because I am currently having several project pans, being bored with whats on my vanity and had to sit on my hands not to order new stuff during Black Week/s. Time to get up and shop my stash, slim down and re-organize a bit. Thank you for a very reasonsble, unhyped, well thought out video! 🌺

These tips were all so true and helpful. I also get excited about my makeup when I just sit down every once in a while and go through my products, do a little swatch party. 🥰
And I do „default panning“, too. My PP items are my „basics“ that I use whenever I don’t feel like using something specific or I don’t have a specific look in mind, but whenever I feel like using other products, I just do that. That really gives me a sense of freedom, keeps me from feeling bored with my PP items, and keeps me excited for all the beautiful products I have!

I have definitely been finding it a lot easier to focus on one set of products since I got a job outside the home. And even though I work at a place that sells makeup, I have only ever been tempted once, and it was a palette I had been wanting for a year and had been marked down considerably. Now if only I could slow down on the perfumes...

The flip side of “spreading the love” amongst your collection is that you finish items more quickly if you are dedicated to using them up consistently. If you finish it quickly, you get back to your collection and variety again sooner…
