      I love this!!! Just remember at the end of the day the quality of your character matters way more than how you look and if on your journey you feel particularly lost aesthetically start by reminding yourself of who you are as a person and let the pieces fall in place of your actions.

    Recently, as a mascara-hater, I started doing my lashes similarly, but only applying mascara to the very outer corners and directing the lashes outwards. Works best with a very subtle mascara like Glossier’s or Honest Beauty’s lash tint. Doesn’t even look like I have mascara on, they are just subtly darkened/lengthened and more cat/fox-esque. Bonus is I can still rub the inner part of my eyes without disturbing mascara :)
    Another trick I love is applying a very mini straight/downward wing with the lightest shade of a brow pen. I think of it as enhancing the shadow cast by my lashes, again softly making the eyes look more sultry/fox-like. The sheerish-ness of the brow pen makes it foolproof and something others can’t quite put their finger on, but it makes a huge difference for me!

    I don't have crowsfeet yet, but on people who do have them I love them in general. They are happy wrinkels! So highlighted crowsfeet do not sound as a problem to me at all :)
    As you said, I can imagine how a balmy highlighter could be gorgeous on them, because it will look healthy and glowy in any light. (Powders can look dusty when not properly lit)

    As a 38 year old, the way makeup sits on my face is changing (I know you've talked a bit about this as well). Also, modern makeup formulations are SO different (i.e. superior) to what we had when I first started wearing makeup that things like blush are just a whole new learning curve. I so appreciate the way you discuss technique and application. It's super helpful in terms of understanding my skin and also working with new products and old products with different textures than what I am used to!

    I love the minimalist and deliberate aesthetic. It takes thought and reflection and refinement and a lot of time to figure things out. It is deeply personal but also broadly philosophical. This is not a no makeup look. This is taking a few products and making them work to the maximum extent of their ability and yours. Thank you. I am thinking a lot about your words.

    This is so eerie to me because every single step you mentioned is EXACTLY how i do my makeup every day 😂 and they are all techniques i really only implemented in the last year as i discovered what worked for me. I consider you to be someone who is very chic and sophisticated and cool so knowing we do our makeup the same way makes me feel as though i, perhaps, am also embodying some chic and sophisticated energy 😂

    As I’m listening to this while doing my daily chores I’m nodding and thinking “I do that…. I do that…. I DO THAT TOO”. And honestly, I never consciously realized that I did any of them. I think it was more moments of trying those techniques, realizing how flattering they were or getting compliments, and continuing to do them. If nothing else this video is a reminder to try out variations on the theme (with the makeup you already own) to see what is flattering for you and your face shape.

    I have recently switched to that same blush placement! I have a round, full face and I want to emphasize it, so advice has always been to put it on the apples of the cheek. It just doesn't work for me though, but putting it up higher and blending in under my eyes rounds everything out perfectly. When the blush goes too, low I lose the cheek's entire shape. Probably a more universal tip than you'd expect

    • @lillyh3447
      @lillyh3447 11 місяців тому +2

      I have a round face and naturally ruddy cheeks, and also find higher blush placement very flattering! I concentrate color on my temples near my eyes and blend down, basically blush draping.

      I have a more angular face, things get muddy where "contour" would go even when I only apply complexion and blush. I also agree with this reccomendation!

  • @jamiel264

    Centering blush on the face can be ideal for long faces and break up the length. Contouring with blush can sometimes further elongate. My two cents!

    Super interesting and delicate techniques, I'll try them, but after a complicated pregnancy and rough start with my (in a week) 1 yo son, having time again to splatter glitters and duochromes all over my face gives me an immense amount of joy

    I also put highlighter on my outter corner of my eye. I am 39 with pretty mature skin imo but i think shimmery or highlighted wrinkles look better on me than completely dry matte ones. I have never found that matte minimizes the appearance of my wrinkles or pores, instead it just makes them look very dry and cakey af even with a lightweight completely matte product. I do like a satin matte or mor matte foundation but then add glow where i want it if that makes sense.

  • @LexiLadonna
    @LexiLadonna 11 місяців тому +3

    I think the blush placement depends on your face shape. Hannah has a longer face and putting it on the outside is more flattering. I have kind of a wide face, and if put it there it accentuates that and makes the side of my face and my temples look very “meaty”. I find that putting it up close to my eye, but still in more towards the center of my face than what’s shown here to be most flattering. But I do think in general most people put it way too low, it shouldn’t really be on the apples of the cheeks

    Dear Hannah, dare I say, my Make-up application resembles the techniques that you demonstrated in this video a lot. In my day to day life however I struggle with Make-up collecting in the crow feet/laughter-wrinkles. While I am aware that this is inevitably connected to the growing wisdom on and in my head, I do wonder if you have a tip to prevent that from happening.
    Pls note: I already work in very thin layers and Botox or ‘not expressing my face over the course of a day’ are no options. xo

  • @purrgundy
    @purrgundy 10 місяців тому +2

    Thank you, Hannah! We share similar techniques, i wasn't expecting that! I just do my lips with lip liner because they are asymmetrical (as are my eyes, so makeup can be quite tricky) instead of going in with a lipstick directly onto the lips.
    Another tip that you didn't mention and may help someone out there: you can do all the shaping of the eyebrows with brow gel! Brush them down first, and then you get to choose: if you prefer them fluffy that day, brush them upwards, if you'd rather elongate them, brush them outwards! Same goes for the top part of the brows. And if you don't like how shiny they can look (because of the gel) powder is your friend! Any eyeshadow or powder contour will do! But be careful to not go too dark, of course.
    Bonus tip to those who have read all this: when applying mascara, your mirror placement may help you get curlier lashes! Just lower your mirror to nose level, throw your head back and look down at the mirror! It's a weird thing to describe lol but it works, especially if you have hooded eyes! Hope it helped!

    In a (newer?) video I saw you *just* apply mascara to the outer third of your upper lashes and I was blown away. Since I generally want a no-makeup or minimal makeup look, that has now become my go to.

  • @kasiad9826
    @kasiad9826 11 місяців тому +1

    Accentuated bottom line of brows technique is my go to. I do it with powder or pencil and brush out into the rest of my brows leaving top untouched, and elongating tail slightly, it gives most natural brow look as my skin is pale and brows are naturally dark. I also have high cupid bows picks and I rather correct them with lip pencil making that dip "wider" than it is. I need to try your blush placement trick as I'm never fully happy how my blush looks-I feel like I always put it on larger area then it should be

  • @nourmezher4129
    @nourmezher4129 11 місяців тому +8

    I use very similar techniques as well on a minimal makeup day. I overline in the center bottom but when i round off my cupid’s bow it looks weird, because mine is super pronounced, but I still blur it to give that hint of color rather than a defined lip shape! Love this video, and also love that you are identifying these steps for us because i’m sure this is super helpful for so many people 😍 your content lately has been phenomenal!

    I really like how you articulated yourself about blush - i typically place blush in the same position, when i am going for a minimalistic look, with my thinner glasses. But it took me a while to figure it out. I think it's such a flattering area to place blush.
    A side note - i'd love to see some of these takes from the perspective of someone who wears glasses. Cause if i wear my thicker frames, i have to apply more blush for it to even be seen (which i don't mind, i love blush). But its interesting just how much wearing glasses can affect how you apply makeup and its not something i see really talked about.

    LOVE this! I miss the days when beauty UA-cam was mostly makeup techniques and this was old-school in the best way. I will definitely give these tips a try!

    I’ve been doing the blush, highlighter, and eyebrow tips you listed off for a few years now all on my own and am glad I feel redeemed! I wasn’t sure if it was the “right” way to do them, but I liked the natural-looking, clean, and effortless results so I kept at them. :)

    Love all these tips and will incorporate into my routine when I want something simpler, but still elegant and refined. Thanks for highlighting the Kimiko products; they really are pretty special (Lisa Eldridge led me there, which…goddess). I appreciate you! ❤

    Thrilled to find out that I already instinctively do all of these tricks except rounding over my Cupid's bow! I prefer a defined arch there on my lip shape. All great tricks though!

    Hannah i am a new viewer and subscriber and a very basic/unexperienced person with makeup and i am just loving your videos so much. These techniques are not intuitive to me but feel so great to know. There is something sort of vulnerable about being 40 years old and just learning how to do makeup well lol but the care and gentleness with which you share makes me feel like i can trust you with that vulnerability. Thank you ❤

    I do that with the mascara all the time - I’m not a bottom lash line person (it closes my eyes off too much) and I find that technique opens the eyes nicely. I’m looking forward to trying the highlight trick!

    I've always used the techniques that you show for the mascara and the blush. I have to try the technique with the highlighter! I remember John MacClain saying that you only define the bottom line of the brow and then go from there to complete it. It's good to see all of these techniques used at one time - you look stunning! Thanks for the video!

    Oh, yes, I love to use mascara to "wing out" my lashes, especially when I don't want to bother with liner. I can go pretty extreme with that, and often use a certain tilt of the eyelash curler to enhance it beforehand as well. A bunch of great tips, Hannah.
