  • "Idol" - that's a word that you'll here from the Bible and in church from time to time, but what does it mean? When we think of "idols," we tend to think about images made out of wood or stone that people treated as if they were gods. But an idol, is more than just a constructed image.
An idol can be anything that takes the #1 spot in your heart. God wants that spot, but if you supplant God with someone or something, that person or thing becomes your idol.
We see a man in our gospel reading that had an idol that is very common for mankind - money. He loved his wealth, more than he loved Jesus and Jesus exposed this in his heart - not to embarrass the man or berate him, but because he loved him.
Jesus wants to be #1 in our hearts, not because he's vain, but because he deeply wants to save us and bless us.
