Always appreciated & respect Coxe as the lone representative enforcer for Vancouver until Stanley came along! Nice job!

Boys, it’s the best hockey podcast out there. I told my 17-year-old nephew to give it a listen and he is addicted to all the old-school stories. If I may - would love to see you guys get Ken Daneyko on there, guy is a terrific storyteller and was certainly one of the most colorful and fan favorite players from back in the day.

Great interview! I wish they covered some more things though. In 1986/87 Coxe fought Momesso in a bench clearing brawl in Vancouver and kept the shield on. I think Nilan was not dressed that game. His story on the shield is a bit off, as he kept it on for most of the 87/88 season. He did play against Nilan in a game at the Forum where Chris fought Daryl Stanley and Craig took on John Kordic. Apparently Coxe fought Probert in junior as well. Would like to hear any recollections of that. The return to Van was glossed over and there was a game where Probert and Coxe almost went at it but nothing materialized. Later in the game Ronnie Stern took on Probert. Coxe was soon demoted.
I mean I know it would have been tough to ask him but that last fight with Troy Crowder which Coxe got killed in but I would have loved to have heard about the buildup of that fight and the effects of such a devastating loss which Coxe never really had before.

Joey was knocked down for sure Coxe was a lot bigger taller and stronger than Kocur. Scary thing is Coxe never really hurt anyone in his fights. Joey on the other hand hurt people and ended careers. Both were great fighters. Truth is I would rather be knocked down by Coxe than had my head knocked off by Kocur

Hi Chris I love your show I liked the old days in hockey. You should try and get Dennis Bonvie on your show . I live in North Bay I watched him for two years what a guy. He only played 92 games in the NHL & 871 in the AHL WOW. You could ask him about Bert Templeton he had a real eye for tough guys. One year in North Bay we had Kiprios Hartman & Crowder.
Coxe always seemed like a real heavy hitter...like he was the Earnie Shavers of tough guys Will never forget his slugfest with Probert at Pacific Coliseum
Back in the days when he played with the Nucks, he came out to play in a pick up game at Britannia. He looked like Bobby Orr out there, and wasn't even trying. He was a hell of a guy and tough as nails.
Knuckles is the most straight up character isn’t he! He calls “a spade a spade”. What a great guy. His teammates must have absolutely loved him. Every tough guy he interviews is an absolute blast. Get Joey Kocur on darn it! His name comes up in every episode I would love to hear his stories. A great guy too.
Interesting podcast because it's clear Chris wants to really unpack how enforcers were cultivated in 70s and 80s hockey. It's obvious it was a Canadian thing, entirely. US hockey didn't have fighting. Canadian hockey encouraged fighting starting at the pee wee level.
Joey could definitely throw bombs with the left. It wasn't his usual strategy, but Pilon, Ray, and Jay Miller definitely learned he can throw either hand the hard way

Coxie was classy not to bring this up, so I will. He got done a dirty by Vancouver in 1990. He hadn't played an NHL game in nearly TWO YEARS, during which, the Canucks traded away all their muscle. Tom Watt had NO contenders to match up against the new Heavyweight, (Odjick was still a couple of months before he would make his momentous debut against Dave Manson) But Watt knew he had to put SOMEONE in. So Cox is called up for the first time in 2 years, rusty as hell, & was placed squarely in front of Crowder. It wasn't even close. Crowder just served him up about 10 punches before Cox could even get set. He went down quickly, & that would be the last game he would ever play for Vancouver. I lost ALOT of respect for Tom Watt because of that. Another kinda funny Coxie story; It was in 1984 in his first stint with Vancouver. The Canucks were in Edmonton & a young Cox skated up to DAVE SEMENKO & tried to fight him. Fortunately, Cement head just laughed at him & skated away, & as he skated by the Oilers Bench, Glen Sather gave Coxie the, Are you crazy in the head? Geature.😄 He'll never know how close he came to potentially having his career tragically cut short.😮
