Vault 87 is the best vault because you meet the best follower in the game. I met Fawkes with 1hp, rad sickened, with almost no meds; and, when I released him from his cage instead of smashing my skull in, like he could of, he kept his word and even refused to follow me after so as not to be a burden. On the way out of the vault, when confronted by the Enclave *every single other follower* abandons you right as your captured. You get a little popup notification 'companion has returned to their home.' NOT FAWKES, that glorious hunk of a green "Meta Human" steals a galling laser and walks damn near across the wasteland, fighting though an Army of Enclsve to attempt a rescue. HE HAD BEEN FREE FOR ONLY HOURS! After years of torment, he was willing to risk his life to save you on the principle that you saved him. He is the single most loyal follower in the game, and for that, I will never ask him to leave my side.
Plus, he’s just a good lad, a good soul. In Fallout, sometimes that’s hard to find, and the fact that he’s willing to sacrifice for someone he just met means that it was rare for him, too, and for that he deserves the best. Lad deserves the bloody world, he went through hell yet committed to save the one person who showed him kindness after years of torment and isolation.

Could the doctor's name be a reference to Joseph Merrick aka the Elephant Man? And/or perhaps as alegory to the misshapen face of the failed fev subjects.
52:15 Actually you can talk to Fawkes after you eliberate him to find out what happened to that terminal and access his inventory to find his unique weapon "Fawkes Super Sledge"
So Mercia "apparently" died of Type 1 Cancer yet Daniel was never told? That means there's two reasons as to why he wasn't told; 1: Mercia died of cancer and the Medical Staff felt sorry for him so decided it'd be the kind thing not to tell him because he was already grieving enough. 2:The cancer was a result of the EPP and the Medical Staff couldn't tell him because, let's face it, we ALL know how Vault Tec employees with a position of power are; if you're going to further the advancement and survival of the human race, you have to make a few....sacrifices..
Ox man, you missed 2 things... first there is a conversation tree that explains that the super mutants found out about the terminal and then destroyed it, and you missed the unique super sledgehammer. Suppose I should clarify that the super sledgehammer is Fawkes's, and the only time you can get it is when you first meet him in vault 87, after that point he no longer has it.
He also missed the unique conversation at the very beginning if you sneak to the bottom of the first stairs you can the the two mutants talking about making more other then
Its ok, i had the same experience with the Zeta invaders dlc for Fallout 4. I think i repressed the memory of the army of weaponized giddyup buttercups. I was dumbfounded.
Fawkes my friend. Playing the first time I was positively surprised to find a friendly Mutant. And he get's a Gatling Laser later on. Best companion, if you ask me. A shame that we didn't get the chance to somehow join the Enclave. They are evil, but just for the sake of getting the Enclave ending.... I heard it's possible to indirectly "join" the Enclave by...doing everything Eden asks or something..But I'm not sure if that really works.
Vault 87 freaked me out and coming across Fawkes a friendly meta human was a relief. I stuck to him like glue to help me fight off the Supermutants to get to the Geck. I have a feeling Fawkes being pretty reliable has saved many players, especially against other Supermutants, Outcasts and Deathclaws.
Fawkes is best Supermutant. Also just realised he talks like Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) in Daredevil. 😂 Edit: The actual voice actor Wes Johnson also voiced Uncle Leo and Mr Burke which I didn't know till now. The voice actors really went above and beyond with their great voice work. Absolutely love Fallout 3 and the creatures in it.
Yellow Bunny not 4 Chan just on yt and I like oxhorn a lot but I think he should show his claim history because that would make it more clear he is innocent
I never noticed that Autumn injected himself with something at project purity i just figured that was his brother or just a different person with the same voice actor since a lot are recycled in bethesda games.
I use these videos to fall asleep, with earbuds in my ears at low volume. Hearing your lore videos help me relax so so much. Thank you for your content, Ox!
Wait but if all super mutants came from Vault 87 then wouldn’t we find more intelligent supermutants because if you Remember in Fallout 1 the Master needed to find vault 13 to make more pure and intelligent mutants because the radiation normal wastelanders experienced messed with the FEV
There most likely are intelligent Vault 87 Super Mutants, but they either left to find a more suitable location to make more intelligent mutants, got tired of being harassed by the dumber Vault 87 Super Mutants, or even the possibility that they detected and heard another "Master" type Mutant, seeking it out somewhere in the desolation of America for it. I have always found it hard to believe that there was only one "The Master" when FEV was used for experiments all throughout the American Commonwealths. Even then I feel that the west coast "Master" actually survived due to the fact that he can morph both living and electrical beings to himself, but I might be wrong since there is no proof of him since the nuking he received. I have also deducted that another band of Super Mutants from a different area came and breached them free (I mean theres The Master super mutants, Vault 87 super mutants, and Institute super mutants, all different forms of super mutants so why not) but that would seem kinda silly to think.
TWBillionare also in fallout 1 the master says that the primes ( vault dwellers) are more likely to come out intelligent that still doesn’t mean every time. Also the doctors altered their strain of FEV meaning it doesn’t necessarily work like the masters FEV.
Notice how they said birthplace of the capital Wasteland super mutants never said it was the only place for them because there are many strains of the fev and all the super mutants are still slightly different in attributes like out west you have night kin
The super mutants in that vault were only all of the super mutants in the capital wasteland. The master was actually the creator of the first super mutants, then his experiments were passed down to other places. For example, this vault.
Even though I've played through this vault twice, I never bother reading these terminals cause I knoe that I can always watch an oxhorn video that will show it all.
That one terminal with the crazy ranting reminds me of that one mining excavation in fallout 4 , I AM SAFE IN THE LIGHT. I AM SAFE IN THE LIGHT. I AM SAFE IN THE LIGHT. I AM SAFE IN THE LIGHT. I AM SAFE IN THE LIGHT...
I'm listening to this as background noise while playing 76, and hearing a super mutant yell "I'm hungry!" during a fight keeps making me giggle because he sounds like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Was trying to listen to this while going to sleep, I’m drifting to sleep when all the sudden I hear “ ZAP ZAP ZAP *SCREAMING MUTANTS* ZAP ZAP *ough*”. Turns out these aren’t the best videos to help you sleep .
Of all the vaults I found during my playthroughs in every Fallout game, 87 is no doubt the one that disturbed me the most. The dim red light, the sense of isolation, the super mutants, the inhuman experiments done there… a perfect combination for a horror movie indeed.
I have to mention something about Stage One cancer. This may have been already cleared up by someone else, but I haven’t found such a comment yet. Stage one is known as Early Cancer. Often, a mass is detected and removable. Stage Four is terminal. Stage One wouldn’t kill her. This leads me to think that whoever made the triage decision may have seen this cancer as an extreme absolute, wrote her off for death, and sent her to the labs. Thereby, all records are dubious.
Its possible to retrieve and activate the GECK but activating it kills you and whats better a green ruined dc or one with fresh water instead of drinking mostly irradiated water
@@omegavalwinThe GECK for the purifier was only used to purify the water in the Tidal Basin in DC. Using the GECK for what it was originally intended for would've likely been seen as a waste as it only deconstructs all matter within a limited radius into a "Garden Of Eden" which likely would've eventually died and withered away in the harsh environment of the Capital Wasteland or ruined by various people fighting over it.
noplesnono Help? Naaa not at all! Dog meat would get in the way and he would shoot him over and over and over...and if he had Charon with him well he would always run ahead and when Ox would be trying to explain lore you would here Charon yelling and Shotgun blasts left and right...
Fawkes said he was born in the FEV chamber, he considered the other supers as his captors as they kept him in the cage. i think it's possible that he forgot his previous life.
I remember watching my dad go through this dungeon. He used VATS at one point, and I noticed he didn't have armor on. He's played a looooot of Fallout 3, so I was confused. I pointed it out and he said "yeah, that makes the game too easy" 😂 I haven't seen this vault ever since! I've recently got hooked on your videos though, so thank you for bringing this memory back. :)
Much as I love and appreciate your work, Mr. Oxhorn, I would point out nonetheless that it should be "inhumane" in that title. What can I say, I pick nits because I care.
Actually, his spelling is correct because, let's face it; NOTHING about that Vault is Humane! The Corporation that built it are a bunch of money laundering bastards, the senior staff are usually cunts and there's usually always a catch to everything, like that toothpaste isn't just toothpaste, it's really a secretly induced formula to make you smarter, only drawback is Chemical X consistently makes you shit yourself without warning! Oh, and the current occupants are the Hulk's extensive and cuntish family!
Not only was Fawkes named after Guy Fawkes, but his existence is loosely based on the V for Vendetta movie. Locked in Cell #5 (or V), he was experimented on due to a government backed project. He was forever changed because of it. (Fawkes being a Meta Human, V becoming a near-invincible superhuman)
Fawkes is one of my favourite fallout characters and in my opinion one of the most tragic, I've never once despite a dozen or so play throughs left him in that cell
Ox to deal damage to the mutants efficiently aim for the head (outside vats) or maybe use high damaging weapons but im guessing you are using high damage weapons and im just a bit forgetful of how strong mutants are Ive been playing new vegas for too long (edit : dont rely on vats too much unless you are sure what to do after using vats
My arsenal consists of the Guass Rifle (Operation Anchorage), and Metal Blaster (The Pitt). Pretty gud set up. Don't really need VATS since the Metal Blaster shoots five seperare beams; strong when you target the head of an Overlord at close range.
noplesnono I mean I live in vats I used a combat shotgun for the headshots also your character kinda gets dependent on vats if you don’t use vats often or ever it is kinda pointless
Vault 87 is so cool because of all the red lights. Definitely one of the creepiest locations in any Fallout game (Not counting 76 because I haven't played it)
I’ve been on a nostalgia trip with the fallout series. I found these videos, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I didn’t want to watch a play through and I didn’t want to watch tutorials. This is the perfect balance. Well narrated and very engaging. The only thing I would love to see would be all of these in podcasts format. Just a suggestion but very good work!
I just realized Jason, the original mayor of little lamplight, had to be Peter's son. Terrible to think that they were literally right next to each other
Fawkes is a genius. That line after Oxhorn threatens to paint the walls with his brains is fantastic. “What is it with your kind? This is why the bombs fell you know.” Humans love resorting to immediate action, even if a simple (stupid), less harsh answer is an option. Like System of a Down once said, “Stupid people do stupid things. Smart people outsmart each other, then themselves.” Peace is stupid, why would anyone choose peace when you could be smarter, and one-up your opponent? That never ending wanting to be better than others is so inherently evil...

Glad I'm not the only one wondering the same.

52:15 Actually you can talk to Fawkes after you eliberate him to find out what happened to that terminal and access his inventory to find his unique weapon "Fawkes Super Sledge"
So Mercia "apparently" died of Type 1 Cancer yet Daniel was never told? That means there's two reasons as to why he wasn't told;
1: Mercia died of cancer and the Medical Staff felt sorry for him so decided it'd be the kind thing not to tell him because he was already grieving enough.
2:The cancer was a result of the EPP and the Medical Staff couldn't tell him because, let's face it, we ALL know how Vault Tec employees with a position of power are; if you're going to further the advancement and survival of the human race, you have to make a few....sacrifices..
I'd guess the second one. If they are doing tests on people I doubt they would feel sorry for him for his wife dying.
3. Bethesda changed a bunch of stuff in the story for Vault 87, and they forgot to update the death list.
Ox man, you missed 2 things... first there is a conversation tree that explains that the super mutants found out about the terminal and then destroyed it, and you missed the unique super sledgehammer.

A shame that we didn't get the chance to somehow join the Enclave. They are evil, but just for the sake of getting the Enclave ending....

Vault 87 freaked me out and coming across Fawkes a friendly meta human was a relief. I stuck to him like glue to help me fight off the Supermutants to get to the Geck.

Also, didn’t the holotapes from FO1 mention that the Master actively modified the FEV he had access to.
I wonder what happened to Fawke after the event of Fallout 3? What is he doing during the event of Fallout 4? He is still alive?

Now it wouldn't kill her with the ability to treat. Without a way to treat its invariably fatal.
why not just use the geck in the capital wasteland instead of using it for water parts
Harold in oasis can do that
Its possible to retrieve and activate the GECK but activating it kills you and whats better a green ruined dc or one with fresh water instead of drinking mostly irradiated water
@@spartana1116 a Geck DC is better
@@omegavalwinThe GECK for the purifier was only used to purify the water in the Tidal Basin in DC.
Using the GECK for what it was originally intended for would've likely been seen as a waste as it only deconstructs all matter within a limited radius into a "Garden Of Eden" which likely would've eventually died and withered away in the harsh environment of the Capital Wasteland or ruined by various people fighting over it.

OMG this is gonna suck when its over!!!! What will I have to look forward to anymore!!!
Broken Steel?
The fallout 2 series he's doing is pretty great too.
Ox to deal damage to the mutants efficiently aim for the head (outside vats) or maybe use high damaging weapons but im guessing you are using high damage weapons and im just a bit forgetful of how strong mutants are
Ive been playing new vegas for too long
(edit : dont rely on vats too much unless you are sure what to do after using vats
For some reason I'm watching fallout lore when I have never played the games and never really liked fallout but I enjoy this it's very strange

Thanks for bring back my old memory, Oxhorn.
