Scott, I would love to see you buy and renovate a property. Because: a - you and your better half deserve better than a flat, and b: because you would kill that. Cheers, mate!
I restore old cars for fun and have been offered a lot of money to do it professionally. I would never do that as turning a hobby into a job sounds like a nightmare. I suspect Scott is the same, but the other way around - the thought of having to work on his own house after having worked on someone elses is likely depressing. Also, nothing wrong with living in a flat, much less crap to deal with, not sure a house is necessarily better. I live in a a detached house now, thinking of going back to a flat....
I bought this because I did not have a clue about the design, materials composition and building of a shed. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAquIt is absolutely fascinating, with clear, readable text and helpful illustrations also enough videos. There is a great sense of creativity and enthusiasm underlying the projects which the authors develop, from a bike shed to a glorious eco-shed. I like the way explanations are provided for decisions made from a range of options. I am not really in a position to rate the more technical detail, but think I am prepared to boldly go shed- building, equipped with this manual.
For that window in the shower, try to have the sloped tile over the wall tile, so that the butted grout line is facing into the shower and not up towards the ceiling. It’s less risk of water intrusion at that point.
Ima address the white elephant in the room, let's be honest none of this would be possible without Rich...the man, hardest worker, funniest 1 liners, give it up people!! (as per our agreement you owe me a box Rich✌)
Hate NZ current demolish beautiful old houses to put up flats and high rise shit boxes. Love the fact you recycle and take apart with an eye on using later. Shame we are losing so many old houses in Wgtn and Akl . Peter O
If all the construction workers would care about old houses like you do, the world would be a better place. And thanks for all the time consuming video's you make. They are great to watch and very useful.
Been an amazing series to see the transformation. Well done Scott and team. Do you mind if I ask what the overall cost vs budget was (for the owner)? We're currently researching a similar concept but hesitant on blow out costs, like restumping etc. Great work.
Thanks for the video man. It looks absolutely amazing, please , you guys, keep up the beautiful job that you’re doing. I did my fair share of houses renovation and impossible projects, but the joy and accomplishment at the end of each job, covers the hard work. The memories of those jobs still puts a smile on, every time I remember them. You guys make a good and amazing job!!!!!
Great results! House leveling, small extension/ open plan with big timber bifold doors leading to a new deck outside, new kitchen and bathroom! Just estimating the costs in Auckland to do a reno like this, maybe $300k? But definitely worth it given the house price in Kingsland.
I would try to have the shower niche tile run over the wall tile so the grout line isn’t facing ceiling, but rather on the side. Less chance of water intrusion and less chance of that grout line slowly whittling away. Saves you a callback. And you mentioned planing and straightening out the bathroom- does your code allow for the mud lathe method for the shower wall?- (Moisture barrier, stucco lathe with wadded nails, and limed mud?) It is a lot easier to float out and create a straight/plumb wall rather than plane everything. You only lose a 3/4” to 1.5” per wall in the grand scheme of things. Save a lot on labor and save yourself tons of frustration. Nice job!
What an amazing transformation. Beautiful work and great attention to detail. It would be interesting to hear from the homeowners - would love to understand the thinking behind some of the decisions as well as their budget. Also think they're going to end up regretting that ginormous folding back door - beautiful, but a nightmare to maintain.
Fantastic job Scott and the team. But what am I supposed to do when I need you to do my place when I'm living in Wellington and your based in Auckland?
I want to move to NZ just so I can hire you to work on my house. Everything's so carefully thought out and done. I have a hard time trusting workers here when I see how you work in your videos. I wish I could erase all my viewings of your videos from my memory so I can have lower standards to whoever I hire here.
Scott, this was a very enjoyable series. The quality of your workmanship and production quality of your videos is top notch. I learned a few tricks and know to avoid the Makita coffee maker. Worth a patreon subscription.
I learned to avoid the Makita coffee maker by watching James Hoffman, the Weird Coffee Person, so it's reassuring that Scott as an amateur coffee connoisseur agrees.
That whole reno just waiting for the GOOGLE to film you, love it, oh and the end result was fantastic, about to start a similar project in the Hunter Valley Aus 👍💌
Cracking series mate, a true craftsman. Found myself on Google earth once, corner of Cambridge terrace and Montreal street christchurch, circa 2015/2016, rocking a pair of hi vis overalls getting ready to dig a hole! Have a great weekend
Paerau - 100% amazing job on those shelves. The pocket shelving is great, but the reclaimed kitchen ones with the slotting is 10/10 craftsmanship. He always does some of the most underrated work, and with amazing craftsmanship. I thought his bowtie to fix the reclaimed wood in previous episodes was also super on point.
Watched this whole series as it came out. Rewatching it and I really love how this renovation comes out. If I hadn't already been hooked on SBC videos this series would have got me 100%
Beautiful work! What a transformation of that old house. It looks very modern. Love that shelving Pareau made! Too bad I'm in California as I would hire you!
Fantastic mate, enjoyed the whole series! . Lets hope the owners stay living in it and don't get dollar signs in their eyes and go chasing a massive profit - which I'm sure they'd get! 🤙
I'm away for a few years in the UK so its lovely to watch this series and see all my old favourite smoko bakeries especially the french cafe opposite Bunnings. Great work and attention to detail.
Great video mate. This type of in depth project wrap up vid is awesome to see - you and Jess are running a professional outfit and this is a great way to showcase your top level work.
G,day Scott Brown Carpentry team from Sydney, Australia. Modern living space. From a historically focused point, the 1906 villa's: would have been constructed: possibly, a timber mill nearby after logging? *when re-stumping a building, I believe temporary props are essential to prevent movement and cracking of wet area sealant systems and plastering. * this is a really nice renovated home that now has sunlight and room: good job. 🌏🇭🇲
Exciting episodes end up with an exciting result 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 looking forward to the next exciting project 😁 sorry I’m just excited seeing another Scott Brown episode 🤷🏼♂️
I watched each episode of this renovation but to see this going back over the work done and the end result is amazing. This project is a credit to you and all who worked on it. If I could spell Pradue's name I would mention him as a great partner in this build. I am sure the owners are so pleased with the end result.
3:35 BOY what an atrocity of an industrial building :O WTF happened there?!? What a shame, with all those beautiful old houses around! BUT: What a great result! That renovation is tastefull AF! Amazing Job!
Incredible work guys!!! It all looks amazing! I’m trying to become a carpenter, hoping someone wants a new Apprentice? So far no bites. Hope whoever I work for is as good as your team. Anyone in the Los Angeles/OC area? Future wannabe Carpenter looking to learn!!! ☺️
Loving your videos mate! My wife, who never watches my DIY channels literally put her phone down and watches your channel with me... figure that out! :-) quick question, do you give your clients discounts to let you 'cover' their builds on youtube? Or do they pay you more for the 'privilege'? I could totally argue it both ways eh! You are soo good!
Awesome vid mate. Space created looks great. The recycling and re-use of materials was well thought out. Would love see a vid on how costing and payment works (without disclosing the actual $$$) on a project like this. How do you pay for materials? Does the client pay limo sum or installments? Etc
It’s called Wainscot (emphasis on ...scot). It’s the Baltic word for oak which was used for wall paneling in Britain. The name of the timber became the name of the paneling.
That's a lovely villa. I love old buildings. My flat in Glasgow was built in 1895 and while it needs looking after from time to time there's tons of character.
Hat off to you Scott. Its a tough job being behind the mental work AND the physical work for Renovations like these. I Also Run a Small Reno business and every time i get sick of the day i tell myself "Scott would eat this for breakfast" haha. Good Job. Btw your methods have inspired me to be even neater and have more dust control on my sites.
Ha ha.. I passed a Google car a couple of days ago.. not my first time either but that one STILL hasn't updated despite it being a couple of years now.. Oh ya, and the project? Very nice job fella
Can I please hire you and your team for our 1885 workers cottage in Hobart! ;) Oh to you have someone like you doing the build, I would feel so comfortable, well done mate.
Wow! Out of curiosity what would a Reno of this size cost and how much value would it add to the property. It’s a definite black to white change. Really amazing work
Grate job but how much was it ie if they bought the house for 100,000 covershion 40,000 is the house now worth 160,000 happy if 120,000 sad you have no control over house price as I found out in 2008 good work just be careful.
I am completely blown away by the quality of your work ethic, abilities and video production. How do you do it, seriously... Do you know if there is anyone like you in Australia?
Nothing to do with the renovation, but I love seeing the Michael Schwab poster of the Cliff House in San Francisco at 07:57. I am amazed that these posters that we see all over the place here in the Bay Area have travelled around the world - all from an artist (here in my town) who has developed a totally iconic style without using any digital tools. Great stuff. Love the villa reno, too, obvs.
Love watching what you do bro 👍 keep looking at your channel daily to see if you've dropped a new exciting episode lol it's cool to know there's other builders in NZ who do things right. Just wondering who is the architect you use? Cheers
Loving your videos. We are looking at completely renovating our family home...a similar villa in neighbouring Grey Lynn. Giving us a lot to ponder regards our reno. Keep up the great work.
keeping the style while adding a modern flair takes a deft touch, you and your crew did an awesome job. That is a statement piece for "Scott Brown Carpentry".
No doubt you do quality work. The before and after is quite extreme in this case. Still a bitsa house and not keen on a lot of the decor. The bathroom design and those horrible floor tiles, but each to their own. Modern is open plan. How many more years before we are putting partition walls up again to combat rising utility prices. Already seeing in my career the things I was pulling out in the early eighties going back in now classed as trendy. Also good to see on this project all the inspections and attention to detail in NZ. I am still appalled by the lack of inspections and the inconsistency of those we do get in Australia. You're doing a much better job in NZ.
Wow it ended up being such a cool mix between old and new. That home is super comfy and now also beautiful again. Got to say though, I expect that weird bathroom window to become an eternal fight against mildew forming
great technical work as always Scott. From a commerce perspective, how do you factor into your scope and contract with the client all the unforseen contingencies that invariably crop up when working on these great old properties ? Probably worth a video of its own, albeit not the most exciting subject.
looks good. i live in queenstown an i must say its completely different sort of building scene in Queenstown than what you show on your videos, quite surprised. we mostly do new builds here with alot less renos/alterations like auckland. much cleaner and enjoyable work in my opinion! have you ever thought about trying to take on a new build or even getting a architectural build in the pipeline
Its a one-off but he created slots on the sides and back of the shelf that fit onto small keys he placed on the walls. This would only work if the shelf is supported on 3 sides since the keys are pretty small. You need the keys on the 2 sides of the shelf or else it wouldn't be very strong. If your shelf is floating and only is attached from behind you'll need something that goes much further into the shelf. Lots of DIY ways to do it or just buy yourself a kit from pretty much any store.
Love your channel, and all the work that you do. Knowledgeable and honest. I have one question, why is the wood pink? Is it the type of wood or a treatment?. I'm from the u.s. and have never seen it
I always get a sunshiny vibe when I watch your vids. Really uncommon for me to feel anything let alone something magical like escaping to a place in the world that’s sunshiny and magical. America has been kinda doom and gloom this last year.
Hi Scott, I think I would have dug the holes before they jacked up the house, I just did not trust those jacks and I would not have fancied getting under without a lot of structural support. You put in a lot of effort and time into that house, but the tiler made the bathroom and kitchen into something very special, I have done all the things to houses through my life and I have been very pleased with a lot of it including a complete new build of a five bedroom house and fourteen stables each with a tac room and running water as well as a big courtyard and four garages.
Scott - love this start to finish video - we get to see a lot of the ‘before’ and the ‘during’. Would be great to see more of the ‘after’. If you lived on the Central Coat north of Sydney, I would definitely engage you to do our next reno!
That is a fantastic piece of work. I bet you increased the value of that house by at least 3x what it cost. And just imagine living in that space every day. What a treat. Who was the architect?
Scott, I would love to see you buy and renovate a property. Because: a - you and your better half deserve better than a flat, and b: because you would kill that. Cheers, mate!
Yeah, it would but you know what they say about builders and their own houses?
The shoemaker's children have no shoes :)
Yes! Similar to the 'essential craftsman' house build series but as a full renovation.
Hahah, are you kidding? he lives in Auckland.... he needs to do 20 more renovations like this to get a deposit hahah
I love it all. But Paerau's little wall unit really shows the attention to detail.
Completely agree, Sometimes you wonder if this should be "Paerau's Carpentry" UA-cam channel as he's clearly the master craftsman here! 🤣😝
It looks like a pretty big unit to me
just needed to fill nail holes but thats being picky
Can you put the time stamp?
For that window in the shower, try to have the sloped tile over the wall tile, so that the butted grout line is facing into the shower and not up towards the ceiling. It’s less risk of water intrusion at that point.
Amazing how I hardly watch TV any more, but spend ages watching awesome content like yours on UA-cam. Great Work!
me too.
Thats because tv is crap lol
Work to be proud of. Best result? In my opinion, “Looks like it was always there.” Thanks for the videos.
Great to see someone actually taking pride in that they do rather than crash bang wallop, good attitude = good results
Paereau has skills to pay the bills for sure.
Any chance of a short “Pareau makes...” series.
They started with one but we never saw much of it and left us hanging. His sleepout in his backyard.
I followed this renovation from day 1. I must say it turned out fantastic. Cheers from the state of Washington.
Ima address the white elephant in the room, let's be honest none of this would be possible without Rich...the man, hardest worker, funniest 1 liners, give it up people!! (as per our agreement you owe me a box Rich✌)
Bro. Im pretty sure we discussed a half dozen and you weren’t going to mention me by name, was supposed to be more subtle.
Where is Rich Nowdays? it all started with a Radio Competion, then Renos with Scott....now what?
Lol ;)
@@novosib9017 I’ve been trying to complete a large garage renovation at home. Taking ages due to shortages of materials.
I love the open kitchen and back deck. Makes it feel like a much bigger space without all the walls and doors
Absolutely Amazing work, you guys are master craftsman 👌🏻
Of all of your projects, I think this house has been the most dramatic transformation.
Hey Scott, love the videos! It would be nice to get an idea on how much this sort of stuff would cost.
Hate NZ current demolish beautiful old houses to put up flats and high rise shit boxes. Love the fact you recycle and take apart with an eye on using later. Shame we are losing so many old houses in Wgtn and Akl . Peter O
Work of art. House price just went up big time, happy owners.
If all the construction workers would care about old houses like you do, the world would be a better place. And thanks for all the time consuming video's you make. They are great to watch and very useful.
Insane they kept some of the stuff they kept when they put in so much work already. I think the bathroom could use a new door hah
Scott's such a nice guy, really makes me smile to see how much pride and joy he gets from walking through a beast of a finished product.
Great to see how this turned out, and the before-and-after shots. Super work.
Been an amazing series to see the transformation. Well done Scott and team. Do you mind if I ask what the overall cost vs budget was (for the owner)? We're currently researching a similar concept but hesitant on blow out costs, like restumping etc. Great work.

Always entertaining, informative, and relaxing. This one blows me away to see it all together. Great job boys!
That WAS exciting.
Awesome job, finishing details amazing, Google earth crack up
Fantastic job Scott and the team. But what am I supposed to do when I need you to do my place when I'm living in Wellington and your based in Auckland?

Or not look so critically at the Reno you've nearly finished ,😂😢
Hey bro wanna come do my place? I'm in Canada and also I'm broke. But I can pay with beer and maple syrup.
*on lunch from doing a home reno*
*watches Scott do more home reno*
Me too! And I learn a lot also pushing my quality level up. Thanks!
Nice job, first time i have seen your vid, really interesting 👍👍
That whole reno just waiting for the GOOGLE to film you, love it, oh and the end result was fantastic, about to start a similar project in the Hunter Valley Aus 👍💌
Soooo good Scott!! Are there snakes in New Zealand?! I wouldn’t fancy being under that house with a big fat snake 🐍
NZ has no native land mammals (hence the flightless birds), so possible that if snakes got there they wouldn't have enough to eat.
been following from exciting episode 1. your videos continue to improve. you’re the mkbhd of renovation vids!
who was the architect of this project?
Terrific journey Scott, enjoyed every minute. Thanks for all your videos.👍👍👍👍
That does look amazing! How long did it take all up?
Outstanding job Scott. Can ask what that all cost?
Great work Scott! I'm seriously proud of you! Thank you very much for the videos!
Your team has given it a wonderful atmosphere, enjoy
Play safe from Elliot lake Ontario Canada.
Watched this whole series as it came out. Rewatching it and I really love how this renovation comes out. If I hadn't already been hooked on SBC videos this series would have got me 100%
I've been looking forward to this episode for a while! Thanks
You should be so proud of how this turned out Scott, well done!
Superbe, félicitations à toute l’équipe et au maître d’œuvre. Bravo Scott!
I'm away for a few years in the UK so its lovely to watch this series and see all my old favourite smoko bakeries especially the french cafe opposite Bunnings.
Great work and attention to detail.
Your work is bang on, keep up the graft gents
Wow that turned out awesome!
This is excellent. Watched every episode and great to see a summary/wrap up of the job. Thank you
How much was the Reno cost to the customer???
Fantastic. Takes me back to the 1901 Reno I did in Sydney. You did a great job
Well done boys! Great job. Every builder would like someone like Paerau working for them.
Really great work, been really fun to watch this project. Can't wait for the next one :)
Great video mate. This type of in depth project wrap up vid is awesome to see - you and Jess are running a professional outfit and this is a great way to showcase your top level work.

Hi Scott, what a great job you and your lads done ✔👏. Keep up the great work and be safe ok from colin bradford in Milton Keynes in the uk 🇬🇧.
I am completely blown away by the quality of your work ethic, abilities and video production. How do you do it, seriously... Do you know if there is anyone like you in Australia?

just wondering, about how much they spend on this whole project, my guess will be $200K +
Hi Scott, Great reno job mate.
Was just wondering approx how much did all the work cost the home owner? Cheers
Top notch work boys! I would ask for a job, but I love that you keep it simple with just a few good carpenters 👌🏼
Great bungalow renovation's show, your gays are amazing!

Scott, how many walls cracked when you leveled the house?
Great video Scott. The shelf in kitchen: Do you know what the mounting system is called? I need to do this exact thing in my kitchen
Was it not diy? Otherwise it's like a floating shelve u can find different solution s to make it float
You can use the Hafele Ócu for small shelfs, can upscale the system (diy) for the big one.
These before and after summary videos are incredible.
Scott - love this start to finish video - we get to see a lot of the ‘before’ and the ‘during’. Would be great to see more of the ‘after’. If you lived on the Central Coat north of Sydney, I would definitely engage you to do our next reno!
as always, i love the content. I learn something new every video. It would be awesome to travel away from the USA, and come work on a project.
Absolutely beautiful job fellas, quality work as always.
That is a fantastic piece of work. I bet you increased the value of that house by at least 3x what it cost. And just imagine living in that space every day. What a treat.
