Both my legs used to be so swollen, I could barely bend my knees. After losing 40lbs, and switiching from being Vegetarian, to whole food plant-based and fungi organic non -GMO, low fat, low protein, no sugar, processed foods or alcohol. I use filtered water. No inflammation whatsoever, all gone. I had Endometrial Cancer, but my Oncologist is so impressed, and my cancer recurrence risk is now down to less than 4%. Pretty good, considering I am in my mid seventies. Need to focus more on exercise, but it is great to be fit and healthy again! I made friends with my stationary bike, and have an electric one for warmer weather, my co-morbidities are much improved and no more ulcers on my legs from DVTs. The skin looks normal now!
My maternal grandmother and my mother had LE and they both were thin. they didn’t get it until later in life. And I didn’t get it until later but I gained a great deal of weight after I was 55 years old.

I also no longer have these huge knots under my arms making it look like that’s where my breast starts/ends... and after the second brushing the cellulite on my legs - gone. Trial by error...do not brush the inner thigh and back of the thigh toward the center of your body as in”privates” area...that next morning I had hemorrhoids...and you can’t brush them the body has to get rid of them...so brush the back of the thigh to the front then from the front up into the torso...I also brush from my upper (back) thigh over my buttocks up my back and then around to the front of my torso. I have had this for over 20 years and I was just diagnosed with it 2 months ago. That is so not acceptable. All this time I just thought I was fat. I have done everything under the sun to lose weight and could not. I am thankful to finally being diagnosed. I am just 3 years from being 60 so I hope its not too late to get the weight off. Thank you for this video.
I can so relate when that lymphedema therapist told me that dieting will not affect me losing weight I just about flipped over in the chair. I’ve been on every diet known to man and the way of life that I live now is just to eat good food and very little of it. Food has almost become my enemy. I think I probably lost my appetite because I figure if I just don’t eat it all maybe I will lose weight but that doesn’t work either. I am 68 years old and it is now difficult for me to eat anything because I have a diet it’s so much all my life. Sometimes I’ll go three days without eating. I got lymphedema in both of my legs after my bilateral knee replacements six years ago it wasn’t that bad then until about a year ago than my feet ankles and knees started swelling up really bad. I almost got off of opiates but my pain is so bad I had to get back on them I’ve used many different tools to help my pain including mindfulness mindfulness. But now I am probably addicted to fentanyl. Most doctors will not give you opiates for pain and my pain is not a small thing. I do what I can to not take medication but it isn’t working and I am tired of suffering. I hope you can find a way to get your lymphedema taken care of before it gets as bad as mine. I wake up with my right knee swollen four times its regular size. I guess I’m just tired. I have tried and done so many things physical therapy acupuncture massage. It’s almost too much work and I really have lost my will to live
There’s one other thing I was looking at a study that the doctor Stanley Roxsan at Stanford. He talks about people with lymphoma or lymphedema having extra skin. Unbelievable I’ve been to five dermatologist because I’ve been growing extra skin on my legs arms and even on my scalp and no one has been able to figure out why as it turns out that is also a symptom of lyphodema when my leg swells up you can almost see the little pits in my skin like pockmarks. If I look closely under a magnifying glass there’s all kinds of little white pieces of skin just growing all over my legs in and body my scalp has lots of extra skin and is now developing sores.
Very good & informative video! I have Primary Lymphedema and have had 4 surgeries, 3 on my left leg & 1 on my right leg ( just recenlty Jan 24th 2018). I have to say that I notice the less I weigh the less lymphatic swelling I see. So it doesn't just effect obese people persay. However if you have it & gain weight it will definitely effect you more & you will experience more lymphatic swelling. My normal weight is about 167 pds, I went into the hospital for my surgery & was very swollen by that time weighing 197 PDS within a couple months. I went to my post op appt 12 days later & weighed 183 pds, 14 pounds less. So I can say my surgery was successful so far & the swelling in my leg, foot & ankle has gone down significantly! Still have a little ways to go for healing but definitely looking forward to the remainder of the swelling to subside.
@@ItstheCarolinashow well I am doing better. I've learned to exercise a little more and eat a lot better and also keeping my feet up. Other than that the Cabbage really work good for me as well as dry brushing. Since I'm retired now I mainly spend my time with my feet up I don't have any problems at all.
I drive 20 km per day on my bicycle and it helps nothing. The more I ride, the thicker the leg gets. And how should someone put a compression sock on that even can't put on a normal sock?
Compression socks have helped me control my lymphedema, but that's it, control the swelling. Also, it seems to give my legs a little boost of energy. I use a sock donner to put them on, which is much easier for me since I have major muscle weakness on the right side of my body.
If that the case, most or all obese people would have lymphedema. They don't. Slender people would not have lymphedema; but lymphedema afflicts slender people too.
Sonja Jordan Very true I have had primary lymphedema since I was 25 yrs old & only weighed prob 135 pds. I have always been a petite person, not so much now because I'm 43 yrs old lol but lymphedema definitely found its way to me without being obese. But if I gain weight I can see the difference & notice more swelling.
Sonja Jordan if you reasearch it, people that are at a healthy weight with lymphedema is more of an anomaly, like some people who are thin can have hearth problems due to genetics. Being obese definitely causes it were not being obese, it's not a problem. It's just facts, it's nothing to argue. It's like people that don't smoke get lung cancer, but if a smoker gets it, you can't say smoking doesn't cause it. That's just false. If you're obese and have lymphedema, unless you loose weight, you won't know if if would help cure it, but it most definitely will in most cases. My friend has severe lower lymphedema and is severely obese , 5'0 over 300 lbs. She won't even try and loose weight. I get tired of the complaining and irritability when she refuses to try. For some reason if you have a drug problem you're forced to face it if you want to get help. No one has a problem calling out a person with a drug or alcohol problem. As soon as you tell someone they have a serious weight problem, doctors included, they're inconsiderate, and lack compassion. Especially with women. My friend admits she loves to eat, and is addicted to eating crap. She can't pick up anything she drops, she can't walk more than about 20 ft, and uses a walker. She's 53, very pretty and I care alot for her. I've wrapped her legs, washed her and bathed her. I've done, and would do anything to help her. She can be very mean, and takes alot out on me. All I'm saying is, there is a double standard in regards to obesity caused by an eating/food addiction, particularly with women, and drug addicts, both male and female. I myself am an addict so I definitely have a perspective of putting things in my body, and it having serious effects on my body. Not only was I confronted by others, I ultimately had to confront myself, which was very hard. Even harder was changing, but it was life or death. My friend hates for me to mention her weight, and I don't do it to criticize, though that's how it's taken. I just care so much that I feel like not saying anything is really not caring. I don't want to offend anyone, I just care about my friend and people in general. Sorry for this extremely long post.
Not True obese ppl dont have Lymphdema only if they inherited from Their parent's I on the other hand was obese I Never had this Lymphdema Nor was this in My family but I lost 110 pounds and NO longer in This category...
I was 4'11" & weighed about 110, and wore a size 6, when I was diagnosed with PRIMARY Lymphedema in my right ankle!!! it is Now in my entire body!! I'm now busting out of a 16 @219 lbs, I live in AZ and can't find a single Dr. to treat me, my pain Dr says he refuses to treat my Lymphedema because he doesn't know anything about it! Obviously, he would rather allow me to suffer! I've had, manual massage, wore compression stockings so tight I thought I looked blue, also the $12,000 Textile lower extremity pump, which simply passed fluid from one leg to the other!! It doesn't matter if I do keto, paleo, blood type, or any other kind of diet, I've even cut my food intake down to next to near nothing, and I was so week and could barely get out of bed, and still gaining weight!! Dear Friend, although your intentions may be good and coming from a beautiful place, understand unless you live this life, there's NO WAY TO UNDERTSTAND the psyche!! Let alone disgust and hatred of looking in the mirror!!
*LIPO*EDEMA should have been explained at the beginning. So many women (as women make up, I believe, over 99% of people with Lipoedema) think they're obese, where in fact they have Lipoedema (or indeed a combination thereof). And if the Lipoedema isn't diagnosed and treated it can develop into *Lymph*oedema. When we have both it is called Lipo-lymphedema. LIPOedema often begins at a hormonal event like puberty, starting a medication which affects hormones (such as birth control) or menopause. And as it is genetic you may have older relatives who display the signs of Lipoedema. I really hope this helps some people stop the gaslighting by medical professionals who see patients with Lipoedema, but who have never heard of it so blame it on a "two hands, one mouth" problem. If you think you might have Lipoedema, go online, find some information to print out, and take it to your GP.
@Atlas Therapy Group I have questions. I was diagnosed with CVI Chronic Venous Insufficiency and Lymphedema in both legs about a year and a half ago. I had questioned my PCP many times about my swelling, but he always said it was due to being overweight. I took him at his word. I did not have cancer. So, my basic question is if you go to a Physical Therapist and get your legs wrapped with all those layers of bandaging (pure misery from the videos I've seen). Do you only have to do that once just during the PT timeframe and then wear compression stockings or are you stuck having to do this over and over again. I'm the kind of person who will NEVER want to go in public with all those layers of bandages making it look like you're legs are 500 pound persons legs. This is a horrendous disease to have. Especially with no cure and especially when so insurance won't cover bandaging or compression garments which are quite expensive. This leads to those who cannot afford to self pay to not get treatment leading to worse scenarios which later on cost the insurance companies more money than it would have if they had bothered to cover the bandaging, etc.
I can't stand wrapping. I'm okay for a short time but then pain sets in and gets so bad, equal to a 2nd degree burn or worse, that I end up tearing them off after a couple hours. I tolerate wearing my JuxtaFit for much longer periods, except when it's hot and where I live, St. George, UT it's usually in the triple digits from early June to early Sept. For two years in a row now, during these hot months I've developed cellulitis and last year I spent 5 days in the hospital with sepsis. My biggest problem for the past several months has been a leaking lymph wound on the back of my lower leg that suddenly, overnight started leaking so much I saturate double super absorbent abdominal pads 2-3 times a day. The other thing that happens with wrapping/compression is I immediately start getting these leaks through my skin. They start out clustered over a hand size area then then fill in until the entire field is one massive leaking wound. (where I am now). It's hard for me to agree that compression is the Gold standard for treating Lymphedema when it causes me so much pain and leaves me with leaky wounds that won't heal. I seem to get better results by just staying in bed or sitting with my feet up.
Great presentation, at a comfortable depth for the layman! Extremely helpful!!! I am in no position to criticize or question Dr. Francis, as she is an expert with vast clinical experience and, obviously, is an earnest and caring physician. However, no mention was made of acupuncture which is reportedly quite effective. This is not unusual for reductionist Western medicine which does not recognize the holistic concept of energy as an integral part of medical treatment in certain Eastern medical disciplines with long successful histories. Also, there was no enthusiasm whatsoever for herbal remedies and no mention of the efficacy of inversion tables or near-infrared light therapy. I do not fault Dr. Francis, but I do blame the A.M.A. for its lack of interest in integrative medicine that employs other modalities from new technologies or other cultures. There is typically a gruff dismissal of natural medicines or energy medicine, even in the face of overwhelming evidence: That, I believe, is caused by corporate lobbying and politics, i.e., protecting the turf of expensive patent medicine and rather scary surgical alternatives (bariatric surgery?!).
Hi, thanks for this video. My mom was dx with lymphadema in her BLE. She has the red staining from ankle to mid calf. She has a h/o DVT x3. She is morbidly obese. She has a chronic wound to the top of her feet. She is very sendentary and makes loads of excuses. She refuses to do things advised such as exercise and when I put compression wraps on her she complains. I barely apply compression. So, my question is, how do we know she has lymphedema vs vascular insufficiency? I feel like the surgeon just gave a dx without really doing the diagnostics for a proper dx. She has an appt for second opinion with a good vascular surgeon. But I wanted to see what your thoughts/recommendations are.
This is from someone who is just like your mom. I’ve seen several Dr’s & all I hear is “ it’s very complicated “, well I agree with that. I spend a good part of every day researching this condition to try & find some answers & the truth no matter how much it hurts. I read about patients offering excuses for their condition or for not doing more, but does anyone realize how painful this condition is? It takes at least half an hr to psych myself into putting on my support hose, just walking to the bathroom in the morning is agony. I live like a recluse, because no activity is worth the pain it caused to move around. It keeps me awake at night, by morning I am utterly exhausted. Even the skin touching the sheets hurts. My legs feel like they are on fire at night, they get cherry red ,very hot to the touch & I have to tie bags of frozen veggies around my calves to get enough relief to finally fall asleep. Lotion of the whole leg twice a day to keep the skin from cracking & breaking down. My research that I do shows the keto or carnivore diet to be promising, so I am trying that, my Dr agrees that the diabetic diet is just working for me. Saw a specialist for bariatric surgery & he told me that I am not healthy enough & would not do the surgery. I hope that your mother is better & has found some answers
I just feel that the medical field knows by now that eating too much is much more complicated than pushing away from the table now. If people were allowed to have the tools to assist with weight loss, there would be less obesity and therefore, less lymphedema. Let’s see. If you have anorexia or bulimia-you get the best treatment and insurance treats you well. Also, if you are an alcoholic or a drug addict-here’s your treatment on a silver plate with thirty days off from work-if you work. No, but people with obesity and lymphedema are highly discriminated against and hey, “Stop eating” is the mantra heard around people who are fat. In addition, that redness that occurs on places like your legs can be managed BUT insurance won’t pay for that medicine because it can be used for acne and or to reduce wrinkles and therefore deemed cosmetic. Insurance companies rule the world.
I have lymphedema of both legs and thighs and midriff. I am 68 year old female. I think I got it from being on a statin Crestor . I do not have cancer. I am in physical therapy, wear compression wraps on legs and thighs. Keeping wraps to stay up on thighs difficult. I have compression pump for legs. I gained weight quickly I think from Crestor! Waiting for compression pump for midriff. Have had severe cramps in thighs in front and hamstrings. Goubg to physical therapists. Can't find Doctors in Northern Virginia tha that really know alot Have weakness so in physical therapy. I am now considered obese. I lost weight and inches.
Just so discouraged (and I’m usually a very optimistic person). I’m morbidly obese and as my Lymphedema progresses, it becomes harder to move. I watch what I eat, but can’t lose weight. My lung function is compromised after having a PE last year, and Sepsis due to Pneumonia several months ago. I WANT to be more active, but my legs feel weak and my lower back hurts (and my feet). I WANT to do things, but have a hard time with hurting so much, and having a hard time breathing with ‘too much’ walking due to damage to my lungs (I have bi-lateral Lymphedema in my legs). Just feel like I’ll never lose weight and get discouraged. And no, swimming/water exercises are not an option for me.
For weight loss: Changing your eating habits PERMANENTLY to ketogenic (almost no carbohydrates) combined with intermittent fasting is highly likely to help you lose weight very very quickly and keep weight down permanently as long as you keep carbohydrates out of your life. You are likely to reduce your blood pressure significantly and lower your blood glucose potentially eliminating Diabetes 2. Psychotherapy is recommended as well - Underlying issues need to be dealt with. Look up Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Paul Mason, Dr. Benjamin Bikman, Dr Sten Ekberg, etc etc.You can do it!
@Atlas Therapy Group how can I use the lymphedema pump for best results...so far, it seems it just reduces the swelling while you're doing it...within a short time after stopping, the limb(lower leg) just swells back up to normal..so it's only a temporary fix...or am i mistaken? so what good is the pump? I will continue with it to see if it helps...and will doing leg exercises help? like leg presses at the gym? etc...
Ok, I understand about obesity and lymphedema. So why can’t obese and morbidly obese people be allowed to receive some of the new obesity medications e.g. Wegovy if you are on Medicare AND if you have prescription plan that you pay for those kinds of meds are higher tiers and therefore you have to pay something like $400.00 first and then also co-pays. If you get Medicare, the brutal people they have working the medication help lines for the drug company ARE BRUTAL!!!!
I am completely educated now! I am no longer in denial,,, You won! * one thing I didn’t hear was the use of ACV ,, drinking it and laying it on the skin ,, 2 TVs 1 teaspoon of lemon 🍋 juice , and filtered water 💧 in the morning . Helps with weight loss
Girl how did you deal with it? I've been noticing swelling the past couple years and its just getting worse. My left leg used to swell more than my right, but now its almost the same. If you have any advice, I would really appreciate it. I dont want this to get any worse, but I dont know what to do. My doctor put me on Sprinolactin(?), but I stopped taking it because I didnt see any results. I was also terrified after looking up the side effects. I just want to get better. :/
@@atasteofalex7636 Since that is not only a blood pressure pill, but a water pill, you should not take it. From everything I've read, PCP's know NOTHING. I know mine doesn't. He kept telling me my swelling was from being overweight and I went on my merry way believing that was the whole problem. Even the other day when I went and I've now been diagnosed with having Lymphedema and CVI Chronic Venous Insufficiency, he STILL asked me if I wanted a water pill! Honestly, they need to teach doctors more about this horrific disease because their lack of knowledge and understanding causes people to get sicker.
Due to studying by setting on chair for long time, my legs have swelled and my belly volume also increased.my belly is like pear 🍐 which I don't absolutely like.its not painful, my legs are shiny and it's in initial stages. If I didn't do something about it then after 6 months I would look like a pregnant man Are pills sufficient to cure this disease, or do we need a combination of exercise and pills medicine. What about homeopathy, and other alternatives. What is the best way to cure it, is there a single way to cure it
Water therapy I do it’s awesome it keeps mine so much better and my veins and arteries , I’ve lost weight in the pool but doesn’t solve it ! Going to Cleveland Clinic soon ! I walk two or more hours Dailey in water 💦

Is there a video for dry brushing process
Soo much to learn. Angry that I learned about this recently after being on my own for 12 years.

If I look closely under a magnifying glass there’s all kinds of little white pieces of skin just growing all over my legs in and body my scalp has lots of extra skin and is now developing sores.
why don't you try for Coumarin 200 mg tablets under brand LYMPEDIM of Indian product
One of the best videos I’ve seen.
Very informative presentation.
Thanks, great presentation! Hello from former Jersey girl!
What state do you live in and who was your surgeon??
Would like to talk to you
Miss_ La'Nae Would you be willing to speak to me?
❤
What king of surgery helped you?
Soooooo happy i found you. Im a member now and can not wait to learn...lol...more. I know i can an will get better. Ty ty ty you guys rock.
How are you doing two years later?
@@ItstheCarolinashow well I am doing better. I've learned to exercise a little more and eat a lot better and also keeping my feet up. Other than that the Cabbage really work good for me as well as dry brushing. Since I'm retired now I mainly spend my time with my feet up I don't have any problems at all.
I drive 20 km per day on my bicycle and it helps nothing. The more I ride, the thicker the leg gets.
And how should someone put a compression sock on that even can't put on a normal sock?
It seems to me that all doctors are idiots because there is no useful therapy at all.Compression socks are like snail oil: pure bullshit.
Compression socks have helped me control my lymphedema, but that's it, control the swelling. Also, it seems to give my legs a little boost of energy. I use a sock donner to put them on, which is much easier for me since I have major muscle weakness on the right side of my body.
Juri Vik::: Don't you mean, *snake* oil?
@@Wysiwyg43 weakness right side here too!!!!

Super présentation.
Very good educational material. Thank you very much for sharing!

I want to contact you as soon as possible. My son has Lymphodima
Sooo many questions, I had, *ANSWERED*! This video was very informative and I'm so grateful.
Same 😄
@Atlas Therapy Group I have questions.
Do you use 40% zinc oxide ointment on wounds??
I'm just reading your comment, how's your Mother doing nowadays?
I'm looking for help myself.
Maybe she also suffers from LIPEDEMA - looks a lot like lymphedema, but is very different and can also accompany lymphedema
1- correlation doesn't equal causation
2- if you are full to the gills with fluid OF COURSE you are overweight 😳
Thank you. Exactly.
Ashera
That is true! I regularly loose 4kg in one day, just peeing the shit out!
Thank YoU 110%agreed!!
Can't find Doctors in Northern Virginia tha that really know alot
Have weakness so in physical therapy. I am now considered obese. I lost weight and inches.
Thank you, thank you, thank you💝I know a significant number of people who can receive benefit from this info. I’m a future health coach in training😊
Try chair exercising ...research it on UA-cam
I just feel so very discouraged
@Atlas Therapy Group how can I use the lymphedema pump for best results...so far, it seems it just reduces the swelling while you're doing it...within a short time after stopping, the limb(lower leg) just swells back up to normal..so it's only a temporary fix...or am i mistaken? so what good is the pump? I will continue with it to see if it helps...and will doing leg exercises help? like leg presses at the gym? etc...
Thank you for.this video
Great video
My vein MD gave me Vasculara to take every day. Does anyone here use it? Has it helped?
Keto is very good for this condition.
I have Lymphedema. Both my legs are swollen like balloons including my feet
Okay I am so sorry to t
Ok, I understand about obesity and lymphedema. So why can’t obese and morbidly obese people be allowed to receive some of the new obesity medications e.g. Wegovy if you are on Medicare AND if you have prescription plan that you pay for those kinds of meds are higher tiers and therefore you have to pay something like $400.00 first and then also co-pays. If you get Medicare, the brutal people they have working the medication help lines for the drug company ARE BRUTAL!!!!
I am completely educated now! I am no longer in denial,,,
You won!
* one thing I didn’t hear was the use of ACV ,, drinking it and laying it on the skin ,, 2 TVs 1 teaspoon of lemon 🍋 juice , and filtered water 💧 in the morning . Helps with weight loss
I have had over 35 lbs of water on my legs before. Not fun.
What about lipedema ?
Got Lymphedema from a foot surgery. Por aftercare and then sepsis = Lymphedema. Really hate this discussion about obesity.
Anyone have any information on lipolymphedema.... or how they ste currently managing the condition???
Compression. Mld. Vibration plates.
Due to studying by setting on chair for long time, my legs have swelled and my belly volume also increased.my belly is like pear 🍐 which I don't absolutely like.its not painful, my legs are shiny and it's in initial stages.
If I didn't do something about it then after 6 months I would look like a pregnant man
Are pills sufficient to cure this disease, or do we need a combination of exercise and pills medicine.
What about homeopathy, and other alternatives.
What is the best way to cure it, is there a single way to cure it
Homeopathy is quackery, definitely not recommended.
Major lifestyle changes in food and exercise ! I had a potassium deficiency,, took a high dose and the pain in my leg almost disappeared
Water therapy I do it’s awesome it keeps mine so much better and my veins and arteries , I’ve lost weight in the pool but doesn’t solve it ! Going to Cleveland Clinic soon ! I walk two or more hours Dailey in water 💦
I am under weight and have it really bad in my arm
Being overweight ma keys everything a problem.
Does lymphaedema appear in one limb only or does it appear in both legs or arms ?
@Atlas Therapy Group hi, where are you located ?
Easy talking! Have you ever yourself worn multiple bandages day and night for months, especially in sommer? I don't think so!
