Clean Air! Changing Air Filters - CAT 299D

- Today I'll show you how to go about changing / replacing the air filters in my CAT 299D Compact track loader.
This particular machine has a total of 4 air filters. 2 filters for the Engine and 2 additional filters for the cabin compartment. These need to be checked and changed at regular intervals, depending on how dusty of an environment you are operating in.
I have been a big fan of K&N Air filters for my other vehicles, and I was able to find a drop-in replacement for the main engine air filter, which I linked below.
The K&N air filter tends to provide greater air flow for the engine (in my experience), and it has the added bonus of being durable and cleanable, so it can be reused it over and over! I use my CAT299D in a very dusty environment, where I might need to clean this filter every couple of weeks. The K&N filter is much more cost-effective than a disposable one, with how often I would have to replace it, as well as being less wasteful.

Why would anyone put a K &N filter on when Cat is good for 500 hours between oil changes. 500 hours is equivalent to 25-30,000 miles on an auto. K&N allows more air in and also more dirt.
I have found the primary filter is only good for 8-20 hours, sometimes shorter. I am in a dusty environment and sometimes it is as short as 3 hours. (My machine will tell me when it detects the airflow has been reduced)
K&N makes it easy to clean and reuse every 8 hours as opposed to throwing away and spending a ton of money on this.
The filter system also has a secondary filter after the K&N if there was any doubt about the K&N not catching the contaminants.
That secondary filter is a CAT brand filter and that probably lasts about 50 hours.
