Installing the Rear / Backup Camera - CAT 299D

- This video covers installing a new backup camera on my used CAT 299D.
When I bought the CAT299D, there was no backup camera, but there was a slot designed to hold one in the back door. After some deliberation, I decided to splurge and install the camera, though fortunately I found one from a 3rd party for a fraction of what one costs from the CATERPILLAR catalogue. Keep your eyes on ebay if you're looking to make this upgrade! It's a useful tool in keeping a safe work environment, it's important to be able to see all the people on a jobsite or around your skid steer, who might otherwise not be paying attention themselves!
This install procedure is likely pretty similar across most CAT Skid Steers / Compact track loaders. It takes a little finesse, but fortunately CAT engineering designs for just enough space to run extra wiring harnesses and cables for your extras and add-ons! I also repaired some rear dents in the back door while working on this upgrade.

The cameras are super handy but very disappointing on the quality level they come in such a high dollar machine. They are nearly useless in anything but perfect lighting. I think they work OK at night with lights on. Seems like such a minimal investment for them to come standard with a high end phone quality camera, in comparison to a 120k machine
I agree. I figure they put the R&D into these over a decade ago. At the time, it was great, but as far as I can tell, they have never iterated and updated it.

Haha, Ya, I found that parts to be ridiculous priced for what they are from CAT. Thats why I setup an eBay search. I will try and add those part numbers tomorrow for you.
