Franz is my dearest friend. No one soothes my soul like he does, except Wolfang Amadeus and Piotr Ilitch. Thank you all three, and thank you Brilliant Classics.
After listening to several of your releases, I have come to trust Brilliant Classics to provide excellent recordings. This Schubert set continues the experience. What a Godsend during the pandemic isolation!
Thank you for publishing this album - especially for adding Rosamunde, which I probably wouldn't have heard otherwise. It's a satisfying piece of music and the playing is very good throughout. Schubert truly developed in his last 2 symphonies - the use of brass signifies his improved ability to orchestrate, but it's very pleasant to hear all the symphonies chronologically.
I have been a Schubert fan, ever since I read Christopher Hogwood's heart-breaking biography of this dear young man who lived and worked in the shadow of Beethoven. Thank you so much for uploading this excellent collection.
What is the title of Hogwood's biography of Schubert? I see that he may have done lectures on Schubert, but I found no book listed in my searches. Thanks.
Thank you, Brilliant Classics! I have been looking for a better recording of his symphonies than the two sets I have, and this one is ... simply brilliant!! I have already ordered the set today from Amazon, after listening to it here. Being able to listen to it first, here on UA-cam, really is an invaluable service from your side. Again - thank you! :)
You know,,everyone talks about the great teen years of Mendelssohn and Mozart, and what prodigies they were---but have a listen to the first symphony in D major and keep in mind that Schubert wrote that when he was about 16 years old. Now Mendelssohn supposedly wrote Midsummers nights dream in 1826 when he was 17 and the Octet when he was 16----, but didn't publish these pieces til he was in his early 20's and after several rewrites. As for Mozart, yes he had written many symphonies by his teens and wrote the little G minor symphony when he was 17 ,(which is a great work) and several operas etc, but he has no instrumental compositions on the scale of Schubert's first symphony in D Major. So I think when we're talking child prodigies and great compositions from the teen years, Schubert's name deserves to be right up there with Mozart and Mendelssohn. These early symphonies written in his teen years are as good as anything those two wrote.
En la carátula del álbum dice "Complete Symphonies" ("Sinfonías Completas"), pero en el detalle de las pistas no aparece señalada la Sinfonía no. 7 (1821): ¿Qué pasó con ella?
People need to remember that the first 6 symphonies were written by a guy who was between the ages of 16-21! His great unfinished symphony was written in 1822 when he was 25, 3 years BEFORE Beethoven's 9th, and in my opinion that 1st movement is as good as anything Beethoven or mozart wrote, if not better than a lot of their stuff! I say that with big respect of the older masters work . That's how good schubert was. What a tragedy he died at 31.
The numbers are incorrect. Schubert wrote only 8 symphonies, with one being just in 2 movements with 2 more intended. Unfinished and Great C major are actually no. 7 and no. 8. Brian Newbould wrote 3 more Schubert symphonies, but these are his realizations, not what Schubert wrote.

Che magnifico regalo in questi tristi tempi! Grazie infinite.
Спасибо, очень ценно, что разместили в Ютюбе, а то многие, размещают маленькие фрагменты
If anyone was wondering, Blomstedt conducts all 8 symphonies and Boskovsky did Rosamunde in this set.

There’s “The Life of Schubert” by Christopher H. Gibbs. Perhaps that is what was meant?

Molto bello e intenso grazie Maestro
Soy fanático de las sinfonías y esta colección es una de las mejores que he escuchado, todo además de mi admiración por Schubert .
Tres beau et reposant. Merci
Gracias.

Why there is no number 7 ? Is it similar reasoning to Mozart Symphony no. 37 ?
Realmente hermoso
don't you feel the orchestra plodding its way through the mud in the 4th?
Why does D797 have two overtures?
I only know XII.
pressing a bit on the close side, bit metallic in quality
What happen to Symphony no 7 ? Only the introduction from the 1st movement is by Schubert ?
In the English numbering of the symphonies, there's no No. 7 because the unfinished symphony is No. 8.
