Yuan Sheng studied under Rosalyn Tureck. It shows. But this may be a case where the student surpasses the master. Yuan Sheng has a definite individuality, his playing is technically more than perfect, his playing is not sentimental but it is full of feeling. His sense of timing is almost magical. No question he is one of a kind and one of the best piano players alive in the world.
@@fa-la-mi-mi-re You have an excellent point. Lang Lang (who I have never heard playing the Goldberg variations) is a commercial and marketing success. I am not questioning his piano abilities, of course, but he is the opposite of Yuan Sheng, who lives in Beijing, is a professor of piano at the Beijing conservatory, and his international traveling is mostly restricted to countries with sympathies towards the People Republic of China. Please remember that we are living in a second Cold War. Yuan Sheng is an academic, he studied mostly in China. He specializes in Bach and Chopin, and in my view he is, like Alfred Brendel, primarily an intellectual.
@@jorgeurzuaurzua4011 Many thanks for the info concerning Yuan.Never mind that he lives in CHina(Bejing). At least he remains honest towards HIS country ,just like Richter was to former USSR.I am sad that he does not appear in Wikipedia(not that I fully trust that site but still). He looks very friendly and so modest.I agree when comparing him to Brendel. Many thanks-keep well. The Bechstein piano is exquisite and so is his Goldberg.Charming unlike the annoying other versions 👍🎹
@@jorgeurzuaurzua4011 Goldberg by Lang L were released on the 4th of this month but it can be viewed on YT(may be ne not in every country?).He makes it as boring as with any other pianist(apart from Yuan of course). At some point I could not recognize one single note of the work listening to him...well well all settled by now.I can live peacefully.
@@fa-la-mi-mi-re Thanks for your answer. I heard for the first time yesterday in YT 4 variations (not the whole set) of the diabelli set played by Lang Lang. It was a very nice and carefully set video. I didn't much like the music. Not at al! to be honest.
As others have relished the listening, then noted, the playing is truly magical!! What an incredible delight to have these marvelous recordings of the remarkably enchanting playing of Yuan Sheng. Thank each one who brought these recordings to UA-cam. We are more rich with their hearing. DJ in Knoxville TN
Simply extraordinary. I have dipped into this recording before but today I decided to listen to the whole thing straight through. It's very hard to describe how marvelous it is except to say that clearly a lot of thought has gone into the interpretation but it comes across as freshly as though it were just being discovered. So much variety of articulation and such wonderful part playing. The whole thing has this wonderful spontaneity, which makes it a complete joy to listen to.
Just discovered yuan sheng. Extraordinary interpretator of Bach. Such emotional restraint (deliberate oxymoron). I think Bach would smile and feel very understood in his compositional intent. Bravo.

I agree but I wonder why we hardly hear about him-too much Lang Lang!!

I agree-I can't stop listening to his rendition.
Me too. Although I can’t speak the same of Lang Lang’s interpretation, even though I like LL very much otherwise.
@@PS-kd1if So do I like LL otherwise such as Beethoven's OP 73(Concerto n°5)
Truly magnificent. Brrrrrrrrravo Yuan Sheng, Crystal clarity & wonderful interpretation.
So delicately and beautifully played, as clear as spring water, my first favorite being the first variation.
One of the best & crystal clear interpretation. Thanks for uploanding
This is THE one and only rendition of this work.🎹
UA-cam guided me here, and i was so shocked! This is the best Goldberg! Such a beauty and enjoyment!❤️

Grande varietà di ritmi.
Probably the best Goldberg ever recorded
Never.
Never...
Perfekt 👍🎶
Thank you! 🌷
Tipico esempio di musica barocca. Eccessiva, talvolta enfatica.
Un po' romantico ma bello
This tops Gould.
No way...
🌹🌹♥️♥️💞💞
It's a shock and an insult to have a Taylor Swift ad pop up in the middle of the Goldberg Variations!
Unfortunately, the opposite never happens...
the sounds are " a bit same as on Harpsichord " what can be the cause ?
somebody agree ?

he keeps losing the rhythm and also pausing at random on top of that thus killing the effect... no wai :/
