I hope you are still with us and I am sorry that you had to be 45-50 before hearing Schubert. I heard Furtwangler's 9th when I was just 15 or 16 and was blown away. And still flying with the wind.
@@markussabogabriel5846 I made that comment after seeing a web page that featured the pianos of the great composers: Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt...and Elton John (?!).
Schubert's "Die Unvollendete", "The Unfinished", is one of the world's finest pieces of music ever written. (D. 759, in b minor). The performance was perfect. Nothing unfinished about it. Thank you.

Jahrhundert!
Thank you so much! Peter Simon Certainly it’s not competitive sport, I’m not a sportsman. Certainly we’re different, that’s quite obvious, and we even are entitled to be so! But if somebody goes around telling Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is utterly boring (with or without his piano concertos!) to him, that man either doesn’t understand music at all (even if he plays the piano for one hundred years) or he belongs to the large company of people who say: I have made up my mind, so don’t trouble me with facts. As you can see, my attention is still quite all right, even if I have become a little bit older by the time going.
Of all the composers, only Haydn and Mendelssohn surpass Schubert at the symphony. He should be promoted way more. Had composers chosen to follow his model rather than Beethoven's, musical history would have been much altered (and probably have taken a turn for the better). His "Great" symphony surpasses Beethoven's "Choral" one, and his first six classical symphonies are emblems of beauty that could have almost been taken strait from the late Haydn's legacy.
All this talk of the ‘greatest composer’ etc. is symptomatic of competitor elitism. There many great compositions by numerous composers. Schubert is one of them.
Does anyone else notice a definite "continuity" with Mozart in these symphonies? To me, it sounds like the music Mozart would have written had he lived even a few years longer.
I should say between Mozart and Beetoven. Unfortunately he was surrounded by too many geniuses of music and was obscured. He had a musical destiny similar to the one of Antonio Salieri, his teacher, always under the shadow of Mozart.
Schubert wrote some of the greatest music (the Unfinished symphony, the Great No. 9, many chamber works, piano works, etc., etc. He does not belong with Salieri at all. Also, his lieder is about the greatest ever written.
Jasper....if rap had existed 56 years ago when I was your age, then I would say hands-down "no, you're not the only one". Congrats and keep it up....you'll enjoy life a whole lot more ;-)
Jasper. when I had your age I was already many years listing to Wagner, Schonberg, Schubert, Bartok and so on...later there was a guy playing guitar...he was called Jimi Hendix and I loved his music rom the first record he made. I'm 70 and I still love classic music but also good rap music. There's good music...and less good but tit doesn't matter whether it is rap or opera or jazz... I've been working as stage manager for concerts with as well opera as rock...I always find it strange when someone says "I like this kind of music more than that kind" ...sometimes I love Indian music, sometimes African...sometimes it all depends on my mood or the mood I want to have.. When Schubert would have live today, he would have loved rap music for sure... all great composer did love all kind of good music, they were always interested in hearing new solutions. Some people starts with the wrong music....and then they think they do not like that kind of music....strange because each kind has a variety of great music..
The 7th symphony, if it ever really existed, has long since been lost. You will not find it on any "complete" set of Schubert symphonies, although there have been attempts to reconstruct it using other Schubert pieces, for example the 2-piano sonata in C. But it's all conjecture. Also, there have been attempts to complete Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony No. 8, for example by Brian Newbould & Mario Venzago.
Schubert also attempted to write a 10th symphony. I heard the very short piece by nevelle mariner. sounds just like schubert; but alas, the piece is only fragments
Besides, please note that some recording labels treat Unfinished as No.7 and the Great as No.8, and that's not the No.7 you are looking for. Bigfoot Mangiacavallo is right.
You might also ask where is Mozart's 37th. It turns our to be by Michael Haydn, except the opening slow introduction, which is, indeed by Mozart. As for Schubert's 7th, he had been trying to compose an opera. In doing so, he put aside symphonic sketches. By the time he gave up on the opera his technical style had so changed that it no longer matched the symphonic sketches. So he abandoned both pieces.
I'm becoming a more "serious" listener than I have been in the past. Would you mind bullet-pointing a few of the most notable differences to listen for?
Since Mr. Robson did not answer you, I think that you cannot pinpoint the differences, you just fell them. Of course there is the style, but I find more interesting noticing the difference within the work of each composer. For example Beethoven changed during his life for various reasons, like becoming deaf, and that changed his style. Just listen to all the sonatas for piano of Beethoven (32 sonatas) and you will notice the difference between the 1st and 32nd. There is a video of the complete work by Claudio Arrau, and it is just astonishing. In the 32nd you could even think that Beethoven started the swing or jazz. And in comparison with the very classic 1st, it is a huge difference!!

ESTA BELLA MUSICA JAMAS PASA DE MODA GRACIAS A BRILLIANT CLASSICS POR PUBLICARLA MUCHAS GRACIAS
I’ve always loved the 2nd.
Beethoven mozart schubert and dvorak masters of the music
don't forget Claudio Monteverdi,Johann-Sebastian Bach,Joseph Haydn, and many more.....
I once played 'cello in a performance of the last movement of number 3, one to a part, in the back room of a Lambeth pub.
I'm impressed, almost punkish classical revival!

Que legal, eu também!

Certainly it’s not competitive sport, I’m not a sportsman.
What happened to the Symphony No. 7 ???
Of all the composers, only Haydn and Mendelssohn surpass Schubert at the symphony. He should be promoted way more. Had composers chosen to follow his model rather than Beethoven's, musical history would have been much altered (and probably have taken a turn for the better). His "Great" symphony surpasses Beethoven's "Choral" one, and his first six classical symphonies are emblems of beauty that could have almost been taken strait from the late Haydn's legacy.
❤stupenda
I listened it after a long time, but the sound is also good and good performance.
Good music.
danke!!!
Brilliant!
Show de bola
All this talk of the ‘greatest composer’ etc. is symptomatic of competitor elitism. There many great compositions by numerous composers. Schubert is one of them.
Pls can some one help me with Franz Schubert Symphony No. 5 in Bb Major. Only for viola part. Thank God blesd
U N G E N I O !
Where are the 7th symphonies ? Thank you in advance.
why there isn't symphony 7? 🥺
what about 7?
Does anyone else notice a definite "continuity" with Mozart in these symphonies? To me, it sounds like the music Mozart would have written had he lived even a few years longer.
With the 4th symphony resemble more with Beethoven.
I should say between Mozart and Beetoven. Unfortunately he was surrounded by too many geniuses of music and was obscured. He had a musical destiny similar to the one of Antonio Salieri, his teacher, always under the shadow of Mozart.
Schubert was obscure during his life but highly revered and Mozart-level famous after his death, which is the polar opposite "destiny" of Salieri...
Schubert wrote some of the greatest music (the Unfinished symphony, the Great No. 9, many chamber works, piano works, etc., etc. He does not belong with Salieri at all. Also, his lieder is about the greatest ever written.
His music feels very similar to Beethoven's in some parts.
I'm the 575th like. thanks a bunch !
Am I the only 12 year old that likes this kind of music more then rap?
Good boy Jasper! Keep thinking that way.
I'm 61 Jasper sir, and I like it better than rap too. When I was a kid I liked it better than most everything...!

Wait, how can you say these symphonies are complete if one is Unfinished?
And when the 7th symphony has been missed out altogether.

Thanks - oh yes, so close to Beethoven

This is not a complete set of Schubert symphonies. Where is the seventh symphony?
I woke up in the middle of a dream
If you can not differentiate between beetoven, schubert and mozart you should not even comment on classical music!
Diego Hidalgo wow thanks for the reply! I will listen :)
Well classical music is an impressive world! You said you are becoming a more serious listener. What are you listening now in particular?
Mad Rhino so right

The 1800's were a magical time. Some of the most beautiful music was written during that period
From 1850 onwards.
@@Danlovar Yeah! I agree.
Did you actually just copy and paste an older comment? It's word for word the same as the one from 2 years ago from Victor Hazan.
Why copy and paste other people's comments? It shows a lack of originality as well as a desperate need for attention.😨
