Jochum was a giant of Bruckner. Every time I hear him I find something new and extraordinary in his interpretation. He had a deep understanding of music and will never be able to be imitated.
Bruckner is all about the feeling. If the feeling isn't there it isn't Bruckner. It's a feeling of awe, reverence and spiritual magnificence. It comes through brilliantly in these exceptional performances.

@@buckybit Bruckner's works definitely have originality, his symphonies are a profoundly subjective personal expression. Sure he was influenced heavily by Wagner as where most composers that came after him, Bruckner adored him of course but to my ears he is nowhere near as structurally chromatic, granted his borrowing of Wagner's tremolo in the strings is scattered throughout, but no more than Mahler or Schoenberg. Influence does not undermine originality.

Wonderful ! Thank you very much for the perfect New Mastering of these splendid Bruckner symphonies with the great conductor Eugen Jochum and the magnificent Concertgebouworkest ! I'm in Bruckner heaven, listening to the fourth.
I can only marvel at the acoustic your team with its remastering achieves. The Concertgebouw is one of the great orchestras of the world, and this release on CMRR with Eugen Jochum, who probably understands the music of Bruckner better than most others, well deserves the accolade of Century's Recording. I thank you for making this avaible to a whole new, younger audience. Magic.
The Bruckner gives me a sensation of plenitude incredible. The sentiment of freedom is complete, sometimes giving the sensation of flying out of our world. Viva Bruckner’s immortal music.
Bruckner’s music is based on those produced by Beethoven or even Wagner, however it presents an originality that does not allow it to be confused, not only for its romanticism but also for the unmistakable harmony. His symphonies are musical masterpieces that touch us deeply in our soul, leading us to moments of divine beauty. The orchestra and direction are superb and it is perhaps one of the best interpretations I ever heard. Thanks for this magnificent recording that allows us to enjoy unique moments of pleasure.
I've never been able to "understand" Bruckner's symphonies (i.e., the same way I "understand" the music of Bach or Tchaikovsky, for example), but, even without understanding it, it's something amazing to listen to. I guess it's even possible that my inability to "understand" it makes it even more goregous, as I never know exactly what is going on and especially what to expect next.
Symphony number 4 is my favourite. . . I was once buying a shelf from a reuse centre, and grabbed a record at random if it would fit on the shelf. I decided to take the record with the shelf. Guess what the record was?
My favorite is 6. This is a great performance of 6, but for my taste he falls into the same trap as most other conductors of 6 do -- during the swells in that wonderful slow movement he speeds up a bit instead of slowing down to intensify the emotional response. Karajan and Haitink interpret that movement somewhat more to my liking, but this is still a terrific performance. I especially like his interpretation of the last movement -- a little faster than others -- and emphasizing the trombones in the last few bars -- WOW! Thanks for this!!
As I listen I watch the trees outside, and the small flag at my door. They dance on the quite breezes whicg, as God is my judge, matches the music. This has happened quite often. Try it. You'll like it!
The performance of the Eighth Symphony is not the first version of 1884-1887 which Jochum never performed. He uses the 1890 revision as edited by Nowak.
