That sends the message to these companies that all live service CAN work, and all they have to do is keep trying & find the right balance. What is there to play for? The loot in the game isn't it all that impactful, neither is the armor. I made the argument how the loot in Destiny 2 is impactful. I don't see the loot in helldivers 2 as impactful. So why am I going to keep playing a game if there's no real reason for me to play this? That is the ultimate question a lot of these live service games don't have answers for.

And that's the problem Sony is facing. They make critically acclaimed titles, which have high budget and quality. Yet they lack a proper return of investment because people are playing other games. The adoption rate of these games is not what it used to be (PS4 era). And that's not a problem exclusive to PlayStation. These Live Service "black hole games" are binding player attention in a degree, that it hurts single player games. A Blizzard-developer once explained the whole problem. He worked overtime for 2 years straight to finish StarCraft 2. In the end the first 15$ mount on WoW made more money than Star Craft 2. And that was a long time ago. Nowadays the problem is even more drastic. PlayStation is facing the problem that people are buying their hardware (which makes almost no profit), but they are not investing as much in their games/service. Sony is looking at publishers which are making more money on their platform than Sony itself.

Resistance is insomniac that busy with spiderman venom, wolverine and ratchet so no dice there. Killzone is Guerrilla who busy with Horizon content so I doubt that will happen either although of the 3 would be the most likely.
Sony promoting games that they think will make money in the future and keep them afloat, but their own players don't want those games. That's not a very good combination of expectations for success.
my problem with Concord was the way they first showed it off like some interesting story based game where you did heists and stuff like that and action RPG feel but no hero based 5v5 fps
I would have tried it if it was free, but I won't pay for it. I've spent 10,000 hours in Paladins, another hero shooter, but it's dying now, so I was looking for something new. I didn't like Overwatch, so this game might have been a good fit for me, but I'm not willing to pay for it.
That's the thing about Concord, it's just another shooter game, we have too many already, having another that doesn't do anything outside of shooting, it gets quickly lost in the pile of games that failed for the same reason, not being free also hurts it really badly.

Love the State of Play. Sony announced a hero shooter that no one cares about and then showed off a direct competitor to said hero shooter that people do care about! And then mostly a bunch of 3rd party slop that is going to release sometime and then Astro Bot which feels like the last remnant of the Sony that everyone used to love in the PS1 and PS2 days...and they showed off all the IP they killed off in the past few generations because they are not AAA cinematic enough! F for me. Nothing on Killzone or Uncharted, the two biggest franchises that got me into PS, and are now gone. That's like killing off Halo and Gears franchises and just expecting the players to just be ok with it. Looking forward to June 9th.
They started this state of play with a great looking cinematic that looked like it was leaning into an awesome story driven shooter. I was dissapointed to find out it was just another 5v5 team shooter.
In my universe the PS 5 state of play showed Ghost of Tsushima 2, The Last of Us 3, Kill Zone, Soccom, God of War 3 and Spider Man 3 with "coming soon" games as Infamous 3, Metal Gear and Resistance. I was off the hook and exciting. Man I can tell you in this Universe Playstation sucks right now with the crap that was shown.

sony is really struggling with their games atm. just look at their first party release windows, we have astrobot and concord... no other first party release window... for anything in the any upcoming years. obviously cod alone from xbox will outsell everygame sony have released this year, combined (same as last year), but they also have 3 other first party titles before the end of the year too. xbox are killing in software. ps5 is selling consoles, so if all you care about is console sales and not games... then good work on that, i guess?
Assuming xbox didn't acquire 2 huge publishers and the games that were already in production when they acquired them xbox lineup would been a lot more barren then already is. It is also disingenuous not to mention that Sony have another show in the fall and new hardware to be announced which would explain why they have not shown said first party. I don’t want to discredit or disrespect the devs in anyway that are helping develop Concord. Developing games is really difficult and these folks pour their heart and soul into these projects and I’m sure it’s devastating to hear people thrash your hard work. With all that being saidsaid Concord looks absolutely terrible. Terrible idea. The market is already way to saturated with live service fps and 3rd person shooters. Astro Bit is the first game as an Xbox player to get me truly jealous of the PS5 it looks fantastic. Concord seems polished but lacks character and the dynamic they were going for with the characters felt like it was trying to hard and they hired marvel writers to make boring ‘relatable’ characters that are really just quip boxes. I don’t see why you would pay for concord when overwatch 2 is free tbh.

Concord looks like Destiny!!! The animations and gunplay is Destiny with a different story and coat of paint. The chick that can fly moves like a warlock… the green dood plays like a hunter. The grenades act like destiny grenades. Even the sniper chick trying the knife feels like destiny
A second issue is them charging for it means you also have to pay for the online aspect of it on the console. Consoles charge for multiplayer in games that cost money (FtP doesn’t) so now throw in a Sony membership alongside the original price of the game.

Not even close, there have been so many great games in 2024 so far already. Not to mention 2023 was one of the best years in gaming, ever. If you really think gaming nowadays is nothing but remakes and live service games, then you're really just proving that you don't actually play video games. Oh, and for the record, just because a game is a remake doesn't mean it's suddenly shit or that the studio making it is creatively bankrupt. The Resident Evil 2 remake, for instance, is a fantastic standalone experience, while Persona 3 Reload is great as well.
Sad that ppl that know NOTHING of gaming continually report on it...poorly. What's even sadder is Xbox is in the shape it's in because they try to chase and appease a fan base that can never be satisfied. I gave the State of Play D because of two things. The only thing new that looked good was AstroBot and the other good games were ones we have already seen. Concord is a big yawn, Silent Hill doesn't look very polished and we have already seen it, lastly we have already seen Monster Hunter and it is multiplatform. This show was trash or everything is basically 2025 at some point.
Concord for me looked straight ass due to the cringy marvel dialog cinematic. The characters look too uncanny for me to like the design. Gameplay looked mid to me but its hard to tell until you have pro level players playing for a month to see if the game is good. If this game is not free this it will be dead on arrival. Why would I play Concord over any other game currently out if its not free when I already feel like its a flop. The gameplay looks like destiny pvp that's heavily leaning into hero shooter aspects such as overwatch. Although destiny IMO is still a hero shooter.
As far as Concord goes... I think the character design in these types of games should be less defined by race, sex, pronouns, and overall crazy style. They're too extreme. It looks like a clone of Overwatch, another game with highly stylized characters that I don't relate to and therefore, don't want to play the game. Make the characters more basic and let us customize their outfits/armor/and look. HALO and Destiny are better at this, for example. I can understand wanting to do something different, but I don't want to play Concord as that trash-can looking robot. And most of the other characters I wouldn't even want to try because of their design. I'm also sick of running around and shooting, so this will be a pass for me. The graphics looked great though I have to admit.
Sony not going show new 1st party till ps5 pro is revealed. playstation has gotten 6 exclusives so far and 2 more to go for they year that a pretty good year. However Sony better bring the thunder when they finally show the showcase.

Sony promoting games that they think will make money in the future and keep them afloat, but their own players don't want those games. That's not a very good combination of expectations for success.

my problem with Concord was the way they first showed it off like some interesting story based game where you did heists and stuff like that and action RPG feel but no hero based 5v5 fps

I would have tried it if it was free, but I won't pay for it. I've spent 10,000 hours in Paladins, another hero shooter, but it's dying now, so I was looking for something new. I didn't like Overwatch, so this game might have been a good fit for me, but I'm not willing to pay for it.

That's the thing about Concord, it's just another shooter game, we have too many already, having another that doesn't do anything outside of shooting, it gets quickly lost in the pile of games that failed for the same reason, not being free also hurts it really badly.

Love the State of Play. Sony announced a hero shooter that no one cares about and then showed off a direct competitor to said hero shooter that people do care about! And then mostly a bunch of 3rd party slop that is going to release sometime and then Astro Bot which feels like the last remnant of the Sony that everyone used to love in the PS1 and PS2 days...and they showed off all the IP they killed off in the past few generations because they are not AAA cinematic enough!

F for me. Nothing on Killzone or Uncharted, the two biggest franchises that got me into PS, and are now gone. That's like killing off Halo and Gears franchises and just expecting the players to just be ok with it. Looking forward to June 9th.

They started this state of play with a great looking cinematic that looked like it was leaning into an awesome story driven shooter. I was dissapointed to find out it was just another 5v5 team shooter.
In my universe the PS 5 state of play showed Ghost of Tsushima 2, The Last of Us 3, Kill Zone, Soccom, God of War 3 and Spider Man 3 with "coming soon" games as Infamous 3, Metal Gear and Resistance. I was off the hook and exciting.
Man I can tell you in this Universe Playstation sucks right now with the crap that was shown.

sony is really struggling with their games atm. just look at their first party release windows, we have astrobot and concord... no other first party release window... for anything in the any upcoming years.
obviously cod alone from xbox will outsell everygame sony have released this year, combined (same as last year), but they also have 3 other first party titles before the end of the year too. xbox are killing in software.

Assuming xbox didn't acquire 2 huge publishers and the games that were already in production when they acquired them xbox lineup would been a lot more barren then already is. It is also disingenuous not to mention that Sony have another show in the fall and new hardware to be announced which would explain why they have not shown said first party. It also disingenuous not to mention that sony had 5 ps only exclusives and 2 more coming this year (that we know of) plus another 7 that are console exclusives ( that we know of). I don’t want to discredit or disrespect the devs in anyway that are helping develop Concord. Developing games is really difficult and these folks pour their heart and soul into these projects and I’m sure it’s devastating to hear people thrash your hard work. With all that being saidsaid Concord looks absolutely terrible. Terrible idea. The market is already way to saturated with live service fps and 3rd person shooters. Not to mention it the art style and gameplay does not look very fun either and it’s not going to be f2p. Not sure what they’re thinking

It's kind of a shame because the game actually looks good as far as I'm concerned - the problem though is that it just can't survive in a world with a dozen other games *JUST LIKE IT* - it's doing nothing to stand out. It's yet another game saying, "Me too! I can do what all those other games are doing too! Look at me!"

Astro Bit is the first game as an Xbox player to get me truly jealous of the PS5 it looks fantastic. Concord seems polished but lacks character and the dynamic they were going for with the characters felt like it was trying to hard and they hired marvel writers to make boring ‘relatable’ characters that are really just quip boxes. I don’t see why you would pay for concord when overwatch 2 is free tbh.
Sony needs to get back to what they know an what they are good at and that's exclusive only leave to the multiplayer live service game to Xbox Xbox is the one who started live games being able to play with friends across the world. PlayStation needs to stick to what PlayStation are good at and thats single player games.
Sony is extremely late to the online multiplayer party. The sad part is they think that they’re fashionably late. They are in a bad spot, because they’re going to lose money either way. The single player games are too much to make and the multiplayer games are not what PlayStation fans want.
The multiplayer game is basically a reskinned Overwatch. Why would they launch something like this? It's not like there is a type of gamers just waiting for a game that is like Overwatch but is not Overwatch.

Concord looks like Destiny!!! The animations and gunplay is Destiny with a different story and coat of paint. The chick that can fly moves like a warlock… the green dood plays like a hunter. The grenades act like destiny grenades. Even the sniper chick trying the knife feels like destiny
If This Game were F2P it would've went over better with gamers, but charging for this game and having microtransactions as well...NO GOOD!
A second issue is them charging for it means you also have to pay for the online aspect of it on the console. Consoles charge for multiplayer in games that cost money (FtP doesn’t) so now throw in a Sony membership alongside the original price of the game.

Not even close, there have been so many great games in 2024 so far already. Not to mention 2023 was one of the best years in gaming, ever. If you really think gaming nowadays is nothing but remakes and live service games, then you're really just proving that you don't actually play video games.
Oh, and for the record, just because a game is a remake doesn't mean it's suddenly shit or that the studio making it is creatively bankrupt. The Resident Evil 2 remake, for instance, is a fantastic standalone experience, while Persona 3 Reload is great as well.

I gave the State of Play D because of two things. The only thing new that looked good was AstroBot and the other good games were ones we have already seen. Concord is a big yawn, Silent Hill doesn't look very polished and we have already seen it, lastly we have already seen Monster Hunter and it is multiplatform. This show was trash or everything is basically 2025 at some point.
Concord for me looked straight ass due to the cringy marvel dialog cinematic. The characters look too uncanny for me to like the design. Gameplay looked mid to me but its hard to tell until you have pro level players playing for a month to see if the game is good. If this game is not free this it will be dead on arrival. Why would I play Concord over any other game currently out if its not free when I already feel like its a flop. The gameplay looks like destiny pvp that's heavily leaning into hero shooter aspects such as overwatch. Although destiny IMO is still a hero shooter.

As far as Concord goes... I think the character design in these types of games should be less defined by race, sex, pronouns, and overall crazy style. They're too extreme. It looks like a clone of Overwatch, another game with highly stylized characters that I don't relate to and therefore, don't want to play the game. Make the characters more basic and let us customize their outfits/armor/and look. HALO and Destiny are better at this, for example. I can understand wanting to do something different, but I don't want to play Concord as that trash-can looking robot. And most of the other characters I wouldn't even want to try because of their design. I'm also sick of running around and shooting, so this will be a pass for me. The graphics looked great though I have to admit.
Sony not going show new 1st party till ps5 pro is revealed. playstation has gotten 6 exclusives so far and 2 more to go for they year that a pretty good year. However Sony better bring the thunder when they finally show the showcase.
