The New Craters Near Grindavik - Close Up Drone View

- Those are craters from the last 2 eruptions in January and February 2024 and the one that i'm flying around is from the February eruption. The eruptions took place on an older row of craters called Sundhnúkar and this is where experts expect the next eruption to take place. Freshly flowed lava has a lot of attraction so I would like to remind you to be careful and I don't recommend hiking in the area until the lava has cooled, and there the warning level have been lowered. The lava can be looked at from the highway and it's no reason to hike for that experience, but the craters are still warm and I would not go anywhere near them for the next months. This is however a fantastic subject for drones and this is the best spot in order to have the range needed for the job.

WOW! Incredible new imagery! And fortunately, the weather at least cooperated so you could record such spectacular shots, too! With some of the flows still fuming, the snow has melted, and the splays of sulfur from vents now deactivated are so clear. And this really helps give a visual impression of the vast area covered by these eruptions! So fortunate that most of Grindavik has been spared (at least so far). Thanks so much for your efforts!

This is visually stunning and the music is perfect for it. I never realized how fondly I remembered hiking in that amazing scenery until this series of eruptions began and I started following you. 1981 was so long ago, but memories don't fade when they're good ones.

Many decades ago, when satellite tv came to the UK, I remember stumbling upon a channel (I think German) that played footage just like this. Slowly flying over different landscapes (I think by hot air balloon) and it was stunning. You've nailed it Gylfi. You've not only equaled but have bettered that early footage I saw. This is stunning. Thank you for your efforts and sharing this.

Fire and ice...this contrast between the snow-capped mountains and the smoking volcanic vents is special. So far I only knew the volcanic mountains of Lanzarote or Vesuvius. Not comparable.

I love this! You can clearly see the 800 year old crater line and how one eruption came up exactly on the same dike that formed them, History repeating itself! Then the other line adjacent to it as it created a new dike slightly to the east on another eruption. Fascinating stuff! (Hoping you are okay - we've missed you during the current eruption!)

1983 We bicycled from Seyðisfjörður to Myvatn. It was gravel road and we took wrong and ended once up in a gravel deposit! In Myvatna we bathed in the underground spring IN THE MIDDLE OF OLD LAVAFIELD AND "FOREST" that was around max 30 C - really nice. Locals used it and there were a narrow tunnel between caves. exciting but super dangerous - understood afterwards.. today all is changed due to seismic and lava. 2014 we walked a summer in Iceland and those underground baths was hard to find again as the landscape had changed due to NEW lava and as we finally found one cave it was by a road!! and had been in this Game of thrones. We took a bath though it was hot as hell. Landscape is for sure a changing in Iceland. Thanks for that wonderful drone flight! You are truly skilful with that! Without history - there´s no future...
