Traveller's Tales getting screwed over by publishers was a pretty common occurrence during the early to mid 2000s, which is pretty sad because they're obviously a talented studio

Travelers Tales have some amazing titles under their belt, and even from prototype phases, they've been good ideas and concepts!

@@BenjaMage I remember Sonic Adventure DX on GCN had this same problem in the very first level of the game. Having watched Game Grumps' playthrough of the game reminded me of this glitch where you just...outta nowhere, start getting sucked in to a wall on the first major loop before the orca chase segment. It's one of those "Game Over Required to Continue" types of glitches since if you experience it once on your playhthrough of the level, you WILL get it every...single...TIME! Sonic Heroes also had a weird one like that where, on the launch ramp on the second level of the game (as Team Sonic, hadn't tried with anyone else) you would just...fall through the ramp...giving you a Game Over before you even move the control stick or touch a single button. First time it happened I was genuinely speechless. I just had the blankest expression on my face like, as Krusty the Clown would put it, "What da HELL was THAT!?" XD

Traveler's Tales was such a great studio, man. They made actually good movie tie-ins for PS1, Toy Story 2 and Bug's Life. And they clearly had some good ideas for the next evolution of Crash Bandicoot, but they didn't have that critical time to refine and make it great. Tragic.

Personally, what I would have done at least is have the Crash villains as the bosses, but each of them is assisted by a different elemental mask.
For example, Dingodile is known for his flamethrower. I could see a boss fight where his weapon is enhanced by the fire mask.
In fact, I could see where each elemental mask could fit with which boss.
Tiny would use the Earth mask, similar to Crunch.
    N. Tropy would use the Water mask (Which might be a bit of a stretch but it could still work somehow)
Dingodile would use the Fire mask since he literally has a flamethrower as mentioned earlier.
And N. Gin would use the Air mask since a lot of his boss fights involve flying robots/vechicles.
Meanwhile, the final boss would be Cortex himself who would utilize all 4 similar to It's About Time.

I LOVED this game as a kid and I really need to revisit it. The music absolutely blew me away and I've always loved it. I can see how it's aged badly, but as a kid, me and my older brother just saw it as challenging. We used to refer to it as one of the hardest Crash games, and beating anything in this game felt so rewarding.
It's nice to see someone not just giving it a ton of hate about the graphics and the glitches. You look at the good and the bad, which I've genuinely not seen anybody do for this game, and you made some great points which I haven't heard anywhere else.

*Arctic Antics - Nice for the first level of the game
*Seashell Shenanigans - Calming ambience of the ocean depths
*Bonsai Banzai - Chinese instrumentation sounds so good
*Crashes to Ashes - Has a rocking sound
*Droid Void - Admittedly kinda unsettling under proper circumstances
*Crate Balls of Fire - Sounds really cool like something from a 2000s sci-fi cartoon
*Solar Bowler - Also played in the end credits

Second game I played in the Crash series (first being Crash of the Titans) this was a fascinating game for 8 year old me to play. I tolerated the visuals because I thought the graphics were old in a fascinating way, it was a nice introduction for the traditional style of the series (especially the need for 100% completion with the gems which I didn't thought of at first). I really like the Atlas sphere levels probably due to my old fascination with ball obstacle course games. I tolerated some of the level design's problems most likely for being the first traditional Crash game especially the vehicle sections.
While I haven't played this for a long time having kept my PS2 (which was the version of the game I used) for so long, I really had fond memories with this game as one of the first games I played on my first home console.

The thing about the vehicle levels in Wrath of Cortex is that, like 3, they all play well into the core gameplay and don't feel out of place as a result. The problem really is the level design. 3's vehicle levels were very well designed especially considering their intended physics system (the motorbike levels have a learning curve that is pretty rewarding to get down just right especially when going for the time relics). Wrath of Cortex isn't anywhere near as well designed as that game. As a result, the way they control affects their playability more than they should, and the bad level design highlights that to an obnoxious degree. It's ridiculous.
Wrath of Cortex tried too hard to follow up on Crash 3, which I can't blame them for since 3 is the peak of the main series, but if they only had a year to make this game, it would have been better to only have a couple of vehicle stages as opposed to having a huge variety of unpolished ones that take up 2/3 of the entire game. I love variety when it's done well, but this isn't one of those examples of it being well executed. It's downright poor.
That all being said, I still kind of like this game. There are a few vehicle stages I enjoy, and the platforming is solid as usual, albeit not as strong as the original trilogy. It's just an okay game in retrospect.

Hello, I am a Latin American user and my video is very interesting, I liked it a lot and I like your way of expressing your arguments, twoc is one of my favorite games of the ps2 and the crash franchise in general, and it is good to see that there are people who are positive about the game, despite having many mistakes and being basically a warped rehash, it is still a good game that fulfills the purpose of entertaining :).
It is a pity that such travelers tales did not continue making crash games, mainly due to the fact of developing bad twinsanity (and no, it was not for a matter of time, but because tt oxford, the decision of such travelers did not know how to develop twinsanity well) They had enormous potential, although it is good to see that content creators such as Jon Burton (the founder of such travelers) are content related to betas, create dx editions of their games (such as sonic 3d blast) and how several of them were created the effects of his games through his code :).

I'm so fucking sick if remakes, please.. Just give us new Crash and Spyro games..
      N. Sane Trilogy was good, Spyro Reignited Trilogy was an absolute travacy as far as I (a fucking humongous classic Spyro fan, favourite games of all time) am concerned.. I still love it because it is Spyro, but I absolutely fucking hate it at the same time because it is faaaarrrrrr!!!! from an accurate remake, so many things needlessly changed for the worse, losing much of their charm and feeling way more generic and boring in comparison, plus it was rushed to fuck, full of glitches, very unpolished, especially the third game, and it's actually got LESS content than the original PS1 games!!!
This is because 1: Toys For Bob don't care about being faithful and would rather put their own boring ass fucking spins on everything, very unlike Vicarious Visions who obviously care a lot more about the original Crash games than TFB do about Spyro, they may say they care and made it very accurate but they lied, blatantly lied, they're almost like entirely different levels and characters sometimes.
And 2: Activision being a shitty ass company and rushing TFB to hell to get it out, to the point that they were forced to outsource to 4 other game studio's in order to get it to a passable state in order to release it on time.. Absolutely despicable of Activision... If TFB had more time then at least it would have been more polished and less glitchy, I would still hate many things about it because TFB has sticks up their asses and think whatever they do is better than the original vision for the games, but still...
But then even with the good Crash remakes... I mean... It's not like I'm ever gonna play them over the originals anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️ why would I? The originals are already there to play and I like them more, I do and will play N. Sane sometimes but 90% of the time I just play the originals when I want to play some Crash, aside from Crash 3 where I play the N. Sane version.... But that's because I don't like Warped, it's mostly boring as fuck and or annoying as fuck, I can't stand any of the vehicle levels that Plague over half the game, plus the soundtrack is the worst and most boring of all Crash gamesI feel, as far as I'm concerned Wrath of Cortex is much much more fun than Warped is to me, plus Wrath of Cortex is also much less boring and the soundtrack is the best soundtrack of the whole franchise... And a couple of the levels in WOC are pretty bad yes.. But they're only ever here for 1 short time and that's it, plus the majority of WOC's vehicle levels I think are far more entertaining than any of Warped' vehicles levels, Warped just repeats the exact same 3 vehicle levels multiple times all through the game.... And I fucking hate all 3 of them..not fun at all.. Plus the actual platforming Crash levels in Warped I don't like as much as any levels from 1,2 and 4.
But anyway, back to N. Sane, although I still choose to play the originals over N. Sane almost every time, N. Sane is still fantastic and very accurate (especially compared to Reignited....😒) it even added new content! Like the time trials in Crash 1 and 2!!! Which is amazing! Crash 1 is my favourite Crash game and being able to play it through in a brand new way is just sooo much fun!.... But still, No more remakes please!!! They hold very little value to me and only serve as a way to introduce these games to a new generation.
New Crash game, hell yes!! , new Spyro game.... I don't trust TFB to get it right with how much they anally raped the original trilogy in Reignited... But I'm a little optimistic.. A lot worried and salty as Fuck... But a little optimistic.
I would like to see a remake of Enter the Dragonfly but I'd much rather the fans do that than shitty ass TFB.

I actually love this game, but some of your criticism is correct. As for a free platformer, I don't want it. I want a new release that's just like the 3 main games and The Wrath of Cortex. A set of levels with crystals, gems and relics to collect and villains to defeat.

2:25 - The Xbox Original version had pretty quick loading times. I believe It was just the earlier versions of the PS2 version that had those. :)
The Xbox Original version also had fur on Crash and Coco which was pretty neat. I would go as far as to say It was probably the best looking version of the Game. Of course, Visuals can't hide a very mediocre experience.
Coco's Levels were certainly annoying to play through as You pretty much went over. Also doesn't make sense how She dies In water when Crash 3 shows that She can swim.
And while Wrath of Cortex certainly had a lot of flaws like the over abudance of Vehicle Levels, I really loved the Soundtrack. That Sinking Feeling being one of My favourites. I really loved the Composers' work In the Finding Nemo Game.

agreed. Compactor Reactor has been in my MP3 since the very beginning
the atlasphere point to one thing I've said from the beginning: some level had a lot more going on than others
mostly, an indicator of which order they developed on, which in turn makes me believe that they started without a final release date defined and they had to fix the unfinished level quicky.
a big example, are some reactor compactor zones, where you can flat out walk around enemies that in theory are keeping the area on lockdown

  • @andrewhaase1826

I've played the game since I was a kid and I have some notes of my own.
*The Mech's jump is only stiff if you remain stationary and then input movement, not so much if you jump while running.
*To me, I thought the levels represented the Elements; Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Seemed a little odd that the fire element room has an ice level and a water level though. And I'm not sure what element the 5th room represents because I don't recall "Space" being an element.
*I found that you get a bit of extra hang time while holding down the jump button while bouncing off of a crate or enemy. USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE! You're gonna need it for Coco's levels.
*Even I had trouble using the firefly's missiles as a kid since I had no idea how to use them. But you need to hold down the shoot button and then let go when the reticle rapidly blinks to fire.
