  • Another of the service procedures on a 2014 Yamaha Viking side-by-side ATV. In this video I show you the correct procedure for changing the vehicle's engine oil.
    In the video I cover the procedure as per the Yamaha Workshop manual for draining the old engine oil, removing the old oil filter, fitting a new one & re-filling the engine with the correct amount of new oil.
    All specifications & torque settings are included as is the type & quantity of oil that needs to be used. I also a couple of tips & tricks that make the job a little easier too...
    Any questions or comments just leave them blow and I'll do my best to get back to you shortly...
    Andy Mechanic!

    Andy I’m a rank amateur but thanks to your video and advice I can tick this box! Your recommendation on the oil filter tool was great. That could have been a real challenge without it. I asked the local Yamaha dealer here in Australia for the filter tool and he had no idea what I was talking about. A bit of research and I found out Toledo also make them. Your videos are great.

    The part number of the oil filter was 5GH-13340-50 not FGH, you made a mistake Andy.

    Thank you for the video easy to understand. I have a 2015 Wolverine side by side and the Viking video is relevant/nearly the same for mine. Only difference is the dipstick is under the centre consul between the seats that lifts out. Mine takes 2.3L with a new filter and the graphic on the video said it needs 2.3L but you said 2.6L. Not sure if that is a conversion difference but wanted to point that out. In any event I will use your technique when filling it to stop run the engine a bit let it settle and check it and top it up if necessary.
    Thank you again this is very helpful to me.

    Evidently my torque wrench is messed up because I stripped my drain plug out going to 22 ft lbs. oops. For now it seems to be doing ok on half the threads maybe one day I’ll put a bigger one or something

    Andy, have a question. I just purchased a 2014 Viking with 628 miles on it. The previous owner said he used synthetic oil. Do I need to continue using synthetic or can I change to regular Yamaha 10w-40 oil. Thanks. Good video.

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  5 років тому

      It's the Yamalube semi synthetic that you should use in the Viking - it's fine to switch back.

    Im thinkin bout getting a viking ove ry a honda...is that a good idea.if so when I look at tv his 2014viking what should i look at to kno if its been beat or is junk ect??? And if i get it do u think a dbs clutch would be the best way to get more midrange power?

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 років тому

      +Derek Gagne Check the basics, bushes, bearings, play in final drive and front diff. Dip the oils if owner let's you. CV and Tripod joints for play plus UJ's on front prop shaft too though hard to get to. Check steering rack and column plus inner & outer rack ends - if you come across a lot of items showing wear then the vehicle has had a hard life & needs to be cheap. Also pull drain bung from CVT drive and use a torch....if dirty inside then forget it - vehicle hasn't been well looked after and probably used in deep water or muddy environment
      Check Wheel bearings and UJ's on steering column. Also check charging rate - should be 14.5v at fast idle - dash display shows battery voltage so easy to check.
      Hope this helps. Cheers Andy

      Ok i just got to this..can i check the belt without tools.dont it have a drain plug. It has 650miles so it should be all tight huh? For 8000 cash.so with only 650miles what are some things if i see u would say no dont get if it has "that " with only 650 miles...T.Y.

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 років тому +1

      +Derek Gagne 650 miles is very low. Drain bung for CVT is right at the bottom of the outer black cover.

    Great video, thanks! I appreciate your easy to understand/follow delivery that makes sense to us non-motorheads! We just purchased a 2016 Viking VI Ranch Edition and it's due the initial (20 hour) oil change, so I will have your video pulled up while I do. I am subscribing now, but haven't looked at your other videos yet. Do you cover chassis lube and other maintenance?
