Great video. Thanks. Today my wife was stranded at an interstate rest area fuel pump having never experienced this "won't open" problem, so this is tonight's priority. The first symptom I noticed months ago was that when the key fob unlock button was pressed, the fuel door lock solenoid would buzz like a woodpecker for half a second. And maybe the 2014 TDI Touareg fuel doors are a different size, but after removing the torx screw and prying the rest out, I just hung mine by the fuel overflow tube and rested it against the side of the vehicle. Unfortunately the tube eventually pulled away from a little black nipple that inserts from outside, so supporting it would have been a good idea. I think it's a good idea to leave that fuel overflow/rainwater tube routed where VW wanted it to be, so you're not accidentally getting fuel where it shouldn't be (but I don't know where the tube goes). Pulling out the least amount of tubing made sense to me. Thankfully, that connector is accessible in the 2014 and, until I get the new actuator, I can just disconnect it and the in-out motion of my latch works fine. Whether the Touareg is locked or unlocked, I can open the fuel door. I don't want this to get in the way of a 600 mile trip I need to take tomorrow.
I am happy it helped you. If the lock is stuck means it’s a solenoid issue otherwise it’s a free moving mechanism without having any power input. This part would require replacement likely..hope you tried pressing hard on the twist lock
3:24 I also put some oil to lubricate the moving parts inside as recommended by the author. It didn't help. Then I disassembled the actuator and I found the above mentioned tube ( or hole) was sealed, i.e not pass-through. So it make no sense to put some oil in the hole. Once disassembled I found no corrosion, the motor in good, working condition, was enough white lubricant inside. Have no idea what caused the problem. So I just lubricated with some additional silicone all moving parts inside. Then assembeled the mechanism and put it back. 2013 VW Tuareg NF.
Did you have any video or image of the inside of the actuator i need a reference, i also opened it but my locking mechanism is good but the round shaped plastic does not rotate.
