Huge thanks! I read the cryptic manual and a mechanic told me to "push down" through the left side hole. I understood _push down,_ literally. Would never have guessed the trick is _"find a slider, hook your screwdriver on top and slide down"._ Owe you a beer! 🍻
Thank you! You’re a life saver! Had to take my daughter to the doctors urgently and the key and the spare were out of battery. Was stressing so much until I saw this video as had no clue how to change the battery. Thank you!
Thank you. I live in Dubai and was going to the dealer every time my wife's battery needed changing. I attempted to do it as per the owners manual , but was afraid Of breaking the key fob when I first tried to do it and was unsuccessful. Your directions were quite clear as was the video . Thanks again !!!
I do a lot of mechanics and… this key fob infuriated me 😀 thanks to whoever designed it. Best bet after finally getting it open is to put a very long lasting battery in it and pray you don’t have to open it again.
This really helped. I never would have figured this out on my own. Finding and triggering the latch that removes the side of the fob takes some time and patience. The rest of the process is easy.
Hi, just used your video to change my battery, tons better than the User Manual. It worked fine so thanks for that. Just to add the Key Battery warning light only clears after first use.
Thank you. Replaced mine under the time it took to watch your video. Like others have said the hardest part is getting the side piece off. Once it was I was surprised how heavy it felt. Thank you for making your video short with out extra commentary, the directions were very clear.
Thank you SO much! I never would have figured this out without your video. Could VW have made this process any more difficult? I don't think so. Plus...bought my car used and never knew I had an emergency key! Any thoughts about where to purchase another key fob for a 2013 Touareg that doesn't cost more than a month's grocery budget?
Pretty good. One thing the video doesn't make clear (aside from exactly where the side latch release is) is whether to continue to depress the VW button while trying to release the latch.
you definitely have to be patient with that lever to remove the side piece, don't force it, once it catches it pops easily. I did both of my key fobs, first one took me 20 minutes, the second 3 minutes :) you need a very tiny screwdriver!
Is there a trick to the latch - I have been trying to do it for a solid 20 minutes...and by some strange miracle I HAD the tiny screwdriver...still can't get it open.
Not clear if I should be pressing the vw button on opposite side while trying to get lever down with my screwdriver, or work the lever without depressing the vw button??
This is just one more reason why I am frustrated with my Touareg. I seriously have a love/hate relationship with it. So many unnecessary and over engineered features. I’m still unable to get the side piece off and I have a dozen small screwdrivers. Anyone else get the cold water spilling all over their feet? Anyone else just love replacing the battery in their Touareg?
I'm in your camp, Derek. This is completely overcomplicated. Like almost everything about the Treg. The only thing I've found that can be easily replaced are the foglights and turn signals.
One of the most infuriating battery replacement experiences of my life. And if you take it to the dealer to have them do it, they'll charge you 50 bucks terrible.
Battery you need - amzn.to/2yqPMAc

Glad it helped! Cheers!
Just a heartfelt thank you. I was able to replace the battery and I never knew about that hidden key.
Glad I could make your day a little bit easier 👍
This is a better, more clear "how to" than what is in the owners manual! Thank you for posting this.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve had the car long enough to use this video multiple times. Thank you!
Appreciate you watching - glad it's been helpful!

Great 👍 Take care
Thanks king! Couldn’t have done it without you
No problem 👍

It is an absolutely ridiculously designed key fob
This really helped. I never would have figured this out on my own. Finding and triggering the latch that removes the side of the fob takes some time and patience. The rest of the process is easy.
It takes some time for sure!!
Thanks for taking the trouble.
Without instruction like this it just wouldn't happen
Good stuff! Glad the video was helpful

Great to hear!
Big thanks for the straight forward video

No problem 👍 Once you find that little latch, it's pretty easy from there
I took my key to the keys shop and he didn’t know how to open the key change it! Then we both watch your video😂 ,Thank you bro🙏🏽
Happy to help!

Glad you found the video helpful

You are welcome! Glad I could help you out
Thanks for the video, had it changed in a couple minutes.
Glad it helped

May make video longer to show that spring to push down
Noted!
Pretty good. One thing the video doesn't make clear (aside from exactly where the side latch release is) is whether to continue to depress the VW button while trying to release the latch.
Thank you! Worked like a charm!
Glad it helped!
Cheers simple but effective.
You're welcome! Glad the video was helpful

No problem 👍
Many thanks for your time.
You are welcome!
Thank you for your help! 😊
No problem 😊
Who the hell designed this key fob. I’ve been struggling with it for 30 minutes. Very helpful video though! Lol
Glad it helped!
Being ridiculous how hard it is to do. I gave up after 20 mins
Thanks! That works for me.
Glad it helped
Good idea VW. Let’s take it to the dealer maybe they can charge us money just to learn how to drive it
Bingo! Hopefully the video helped and saved you a trip to the dealership

Good tip!
you can actually stick a pick tool in the top seam of the fob where the latch is to open the side, way easier than the screwdriver method.
thank you so much for your useful information!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you 🙂
You’re welcome 😊
Very helpful
Glad it helped
Is there a trick to the latch - I have been trying to do it for a solid 20 minutes...and by some strange miracle I HAD the tiny screwdriver...still can't get it open.
It's extremely difficult. Just keep at it and follow the video.
thanks a lot. Good work. on a 2015 Touareg ( germany )it works too.
Glad I could help you!
Thanks ❤
you're welcome
Gracias maestro
Encantado de poder ayudar
Yea! What they all said, I would never figured that out.
Good stuff! Glad it was helpful!
Not clear if I should be pressing the vw button on opposite side while trying to get lever down with my screwdriver, or work the lever without depressing the vw button??
Almost certain the VW symbol needs to be depressed
Thanks
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you!!! 😊👍👍
You're welcome 😊
ty!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome
Glad it helped
Thank you. I would have gouged the crap out of the edges trying to pop it open.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
thanks!
You're welcome!
If you cannot find a tiny screwdriver like that, a paperclip works just as well.
Nice tip!
jeez that's some puzzle... tip "you don't have to hold the VW button in when releasing the side cover but it helps"
you're welcome! Glad it helped
I am about to lose my marbles, I can feel the latch but get it open
Yeah - it's hard to get it just right
whoever designed this fob is a sadist. I can't get the side piece off to save my life.
It is ridiculously difficult for no real reason
The latch part does not come down. Not easy.
Not easy at all.

Yep had the water ! and the whole passenger seat out for an entire-day-battery 600 dollar replacement
@@bigmaxy07 Yep. I still have mine because it’s paid off and I have a second car, but man. So frustrating.
One of the most infuriating battery replacement experiences of my life. And if you take it to the dealer to have them do it, they'll charge you 50 bucks terrible.
This one is pretty ridiculous. Takes a lot of time (and a little luck) to hit that latch just right
@@KeyFobRob I have nothing better to do
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Damn Germans!
Every time a torture
Yeah - this one is super tricky
worst design ever...
I've seen a lot of fobs and this one is certainly top 10 worst
Thanks 😊
No problem 😊
Thanks 👍
