Nickelback's First Album Was....Different?

- Turns out Nickelback sounded shockingly DIFFERENT back in 1996. But were they any good? Is Nickelback's pre-photograph content actually decent? Lets find out as we listen to Nickelback's first album Curb from 1996.
My name's Stuart K Reilly. I'm a redneck from Louisiana who reviews games and loves music. I hope you'll stick around and see what I have to bring to UA-cam.
UPDATE: There is an error in the video. The 11th song is Window Shopper

Good video. It would be nice if you can make more of these "live reaction" style music reviews in the future, particularly one for Nickelback's next album "The State"
Nickelback is one of my favourite Canadian bands and bands in general and I'm not afraid to admit it.
Really cool to see you review some music! As a pretty passionate music fan myself, I always love finding out about interesting stuff like this. Looking forward to any more of these that you do!
Edit: listening to the snippets of this album here it certainly sounds more musically ambitious than their 2000s infamy, even if it is pretty derivative of a lot of alternative bands from the time. A few legitimately good songs and some that are mostly misfires. It's a shame they tanked so hard after this, their hatedom probably wouldn't be nearly as bad and some more polish and nuance on this formula could have worked well on a follow up.
GIVE THIS COYOTE 10,000 SUBS! He is counting on us! That Zelda CDi Review will be worth the reward for our troubles.
I would 100% be down to listen to Stu ramble about guitar stuff
I love this format already. I enjoyed your insights and commentary on each track. More albums should get similar treatment.
Curb is an excellent record. it is raw and powerful. Maybe i'm biased because Nickelback are my favorite band, but this record is honestly one of the best ones, because it's Simple. The State is the greatest record by them
The State is the greatest album. I love it too!
Okay that "Take that Rush!" joke got me (because as a Rush fan, I believe its the type of humor Geddy and Alex would actually laugh at). 🤣
Just for the record. This is what i subscribed for. Not the game reviews necessarily but you putting out genuine shit that you find fascinating because you want to. And the accent helps.
Hope you're feeling better.
finally working man music hooray now hopefully we can have a video where he talks about roger waters radio k.a.o.s
I listen to Nickleback ironically sometimes.
The only thing l really thank the very existence of Nickelback is for that one swedish guy excellent cover.
*"Look at this Skoodly Dort"*
SCOONGELY BANGLEDOOT
Nickelback was my childhood music.
I’m a 2000 zoomer.
And speaking of my childhood and Goo Goo Dolls, I mostly know them for the theme song for Treasure Planet, one of Disney’s most underrated and best films.
Nickelback rules and my favorite movie is treasure planet too
I’d love to see more reviews like these!
Cool to see you reviewing more stuff than just games! Keep it up!
Stu is a braver man than I.
Yep me too I can't listen to it nope! Lol
I would so be down for more music reviews like this.
I like this format. I would love to see some more music reviews from you! I had no idea Nickelback was that old
Just found your channel and you're awesome!
I'd love to see more music stuff!
I wanna see more, I like your sense of humor and opinions on stuff~
I was curious how a music review would go given UA-cam's copyright crap, but what worries me is when it goes full swing. It's like nowadays things go wrong like a year or 2 later, and it all happens at once. but overall I do like it, I would like more of it, definitely.
Fuck yes! I was looking for a video to introduce to my family. They don’t respect game stuff (although doing my best to change that), but this video will make a great icebreaker, we always bonded over music.
Your cdi video slid into my reccomends, then I checked this video. Didn't disappoint ❤
Now watching the halo Atari one. Subbed 👍👍
While rock in general isn't my go-to genre of music, I do enjoy a good album review, and this is definitely one of them, I would totally watch more of these.
12:08 sounds like Megadeth’s first album story, but with mushrooms instead of coke and heroin.
I don't consider myself much of a music guy, but it was still real interesting to listen to you going through the album and giving your thoughts. Good stuff.
This album haves the feeling of four guys jamming out to some music they wrote that was inspired by their favorite grunge bands.
The “yeah”s on Pusher really give me collective soul flashbacks. Their song “Shine” has TONS of them.
Can you review The State by Nickelback?
I thought The State was pretty good. 2005 to 2008 I was a big fan of Nickelback, but then started getting into their support bands like Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin. After 2008, all Nickelback songs just seemed sorta meh😒
This album is far from perfect but compared to damn near every other Nickelback album that they pumped out since, this is still comparably their best despite its flaws, and I'm a sucker for 90s grunge sound
These songs are like if you took any early 2000s song, cut of the ends, moved them apart and used content aware fill on the space in between them
Have you considered covering the soundtracks of ps2 racing games?
If you're gonna do another album review, I recommend Stealer of Souls by Stormbringer. They were one of the last hair metal bands of the 90's. The demo Stealer of Souls was released in 93, then they released it in 94 as an EP with three studio produced songs.
Loved this album.
oh shit a dog fashion disco shoutout! hell yeah :D
Love them. So stoked that they never went away and made it to the top. The biggest joke imo is how shallow most of the shitty comments on them are. They're tight af and groovy with their riffs. That's what set them apart in the earlier days i think.
This was amazing. 😂
Definitely would be interested in more music reviews. Maybe some early Radiohead albums?
This album go me into Nickelback
I enjoy both video game and music reviews so if you decide to review more music I'd be interested.
good video stu
Weird, Just For was also on Silver Side Up
Another furry making rock music reviews? Welcome to the party, stu! Not bad for your first attempt at this format. I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. 👍
I only wanted to play guitar and I had a line 6 pod. Never heard this album though and it sounds like that's a good thing.
I don't know, I don't get what's on the photograph
It was another time. I liked it.
A track would start playing, I had a thought, and then you almost immediately say more or less what I was thinking! Guess we're on the same channel with rock. They were all over the place, often ripping off Alice In Chains, and I would rather just listen to Alice In Chains. Maybe this is why Nickleback is disliked: they're just derivative and late to the party. They're good at trying to sound like someone else, and when they're not trying to ape someone better, they're just boring. Still, I'll admit that these sounds hit the nostalgia button hard with me even though I didn't know any who listened to this stuff, even me! White music wasn't so prominent were I grew up, coming in mostly through TV and movies. Yet, this is so '90s Gen X angst in its most generic form, and I could eat that up and not be able to care how much of a bitch that makes me. I'll do it to the Mortal Kombat soundtracks instead, though! :P
butt-rock time
My only complaint with this is that your voice recordings are at a low enough volume compared to the music that it can become a little difficult to hear your comments without constantly playing with the volume. Other than that, this was interesting, and I certainly wouldn't mind more content like this.
hell yeah
I love Nickelback
3:20 nirvana. That’s straight up something off of nirvana’s unplugged album lol. With a little STP.
pls do more!
😊
Curb sounds like a tool knockoff to me lol
Unfortunately the hate from people is so unwarranted… and look at his bank account. Just saying.
5:34 they cut the snare on the snare drum off 7 years before Lars did 🤦♂️
Also they tried like hell to be tool on the song Curb lol.
better than Anthony Fantano
it's a low bar bro
Asked if we wanted a music video review in the last video like you aint already made it? Yeah I see them there tricks lol. It.. had solos but yeah 96 wasn't fun for them lol. Fucking breakdowns ugh
Ironically I actually like Nickelback.
Curb is their best album. All their new stuff is hot garbage.
nickleback sucks
Sorry it still sucks
Hi everyone, Redneckthony Furtano here
The last single Side of a bullet from all the right reasons the same album that started with photograph has a solo from dimebag in it. Unused from the cowboys from hell recording sessions.
yea they fuckin rockin people just focus on the shitty stuff.
This is the most generic 90s alt rock album ever, they wanna be stone temple pilots and nirvana so bad
