I think a Disney Afternoon video would be really great. A lot of what makes some of those games so good, from what I figure, is that they share staff with the NES Mega Man games; I know for certain that's true with Ducktales, at least. Possibly Darkwing Duck too, they share a lot of elements.
I'm very happy Blaster Master is on this list. Blaster Master is tough cause your NES will melt down before you get to level 6 but hooboy is it fun. Blaster Master is my favorite game of all time and will never lose its place at the top. Megaman Legends takes second place, Metroid 3rd etc etc. Fun list of memories tho I'll admit to only having played 3 of the 5 on this list.
Finally... Working man games is... Working. It's funny you mention how in the South everyone called the NES the Nintendo. Reminds me of the ad campaign Nintendo ran to clarify "there's no such thing as a Nintendo". Also thanks for the list of games! If the prices go up after this video I'm coming after ya!
Please bring back the old videos, dude. From someone who has been following you for over 10 years, that really hurts. It was already upsetting when they went away once, please
For people like me they're some of the best old memories of this platform, made unique through your humor and execution. If UA-cam's broken automated flagging system hasn't removed them, please keep them up for history's sake. To just unceremoniously take them away, like, come on...
Yay! I loved the Disney Afternoon as a cub. Some of the best TV to be found outside Nickelodeon (early '90s Nickelodeon). That'd be fun. It's good to see you back. You always find cool stuff. The TG16-CD was a cool ep, especially that "It Came From the Desert" game. That was crazy, and the music was cool. God, I miss the weird experimentalism of the 1990s.
I got Adventure Island for Christmas back in the day, now that's a video game son. Grab the secret Hudson Soft Bee out of a hidden egg at the very end of the first stage and you can continue as much as you want by holding Left on the Dpad and pressing start when you game over. I used to rent Blaster Master, and that dramatic intro music always got me hyped to save my Frog. Years later I bought a used copy for 5 bucks from Roses of all places. I had Ninja Gaiden, to this day I've never gotten past the 5th level.
MegaMan 3 can (for the time being, as of 2024) STILL be had for about $18 if you shop around, which is absolute steal. Also, Pinball can be had for like $5, which is a really fun score chaser.
if you love blaster master you gotta play the blaster master 0 trilogy by way forward its so good like they took everything good about the original game and added so much more to it and it has a good story too and something tells me that kanna from the game will be stu's favorite character ;-)
Blaster Master is a fantastic game as well, especially for its time! I do have some tips for later sections though! - Be very careful of how many times you die/continue. The Famicom version has unlimited continues, but for some goddamn reason the US version caps continues at 3. Once those are gone, it’s back to the title screen, no matter what. - GET A MAP. Especially in the last areas, the enemies hit so hard and the upgrades make the tank very wonky around ledges. - When you get to the boss in Area 7, highly recommended to look up a guide and write down the boss’ patterns. It has a cycle it repeats, but it hits hard and moves crazy fast. Great list! Hope you find other games to recommend for good price points :)
Would recommend the Blaster Master Zero trilogy on Switch! Also please give Astyanax on NES a try. It's so good. Just keep in mind to use magic it's Up+B. To switch between your three spells just pause the game and hit Select to cycle through them. Enjoy buddy and have a Merry Christmas!
I love Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 as a kid, but I don’t even know they had made a third one until years later. And at those crazy ass prices I know I’ll never add it to my collection. 😢
My friend owned Xexyz growing up, and it was my favorite game of his to borrow. As someone who beat it, I can vouch that the game is legit. It cuts a quicker pace than you think, and if you're willing to give it a shot, it's really fun and holds up.
God damn, the UA-cam algorithm actually working and bringing me here!! Really taking me back to the earlier days of retro gaming UA-cam in all the best ways, now with added fursona
It's amazing how much Metal Squad makes any video game that much better. And, Hell yes, do a Capcom Disney games video! Hell, then do a Disney games in the 8-16 bit era that weren't made by Disney.
This is a great list!! Ninja Gaiden and Adventure Island were brutal playthroughs even with continues the first couple times, you're not exaggerating one bit. Adventure Island does have continues thankfully, there's an item that's Hudson's mascot hidden in an egg right before the goal post in the first stage that allows you to hold the D-pad right and and press start on the game over screen, but even then it's a nightmare once you get about halfway. I'd recommend Faxanadu too personally, I picked that game up for like 9 bucks and it was one of the best action RPGs I think I've played on the console. The Goonies 2 was a really fun one as well that I picked up for next to nothing that I play though every so often.
How did we both put out '5 Cheap NES games' videos on the exact same day?!?! That's both awesome and hilarious. I just went to search my video and saw yours saying 2 weeks ago, when i checked the days they are both from Dec 16th.🤯🤯🤯 Great minds, just subbed. Great Video Man!
Honestly I'm just surprised that A. the first Ninja Gaiden is that cheap, and B. I'd see a UA-cam video involving both Swords & Serpents, the first Dragon Quest game (the one that was originally called Dragon Warrior in the West for some inexplicable copyright related reason until the eighth one came out in 2005; it's definitely a very popular long-running JRPG series, especially in Japan), and Faxanadu (I believe it's pronounced Fax Xanadu, as in either "fax machine" and "that one Olivia Newton-John song" respectively) in the form of another long-awaited episode of Working Man Games. Welcome back Stu.
Master Blaster is unfinished childhood business for me. it's nearly impossible to clear without saves states. I have refused to do that, as it's one of the most important examples of sci-fi and gaming for me. it's getting close to time for me to attempt it again. last time, with great effort, I nearly killed the final boss's 1st stage. you only get 3 continues with 3 lives each, with no options to refill. continues kick you back to the start of the level. absolute master level skill just to clear as it was released.
Gen X-er from the northeast...we called it "The Nintendo" too. We called the VCS/2600 "The Atari"...We called the game cartidges "Atari tapes" and "Nintendo tapes," and when the Super Nintendo came out we called the NES "Regular Nintendo." We were correct.
Besides the list in the video, there's a lot more to recommend under $20. Must play: Super Mario Bros, Dr Mario, Tetris, Double Dragon II/III (not 1), Batman, Bionic Commando, Castlevania II, Metal Gear, Crystalis, Punch Out, Zelda II (grey cart). You might like (some of them you might REALLY like): Solar Jetman, Super Spike Volleyball, Wizards and Warriors I/II, Solstice, Spy Hunter, Adventures of Bayou Billy, Heavy Shreddin, Nintendo World Cup, Legacy of the Wizard, Marble Madness, TMNT I/II, Astynax, Goonies II, Star Tropics, Cobra Triangle, Joust, Snake Rattle n Roll, Abadox, Adventures of Lolo, Life Force/Gradius, Solomon's Key, Little Nemo the Dream Master, The Guardian Legend, Battle of Olympus, Ghosts n Goblins, Joe and Mac, TaleSpin, Clash at Demonhead, The Magic of Scheherazade, Zanac, Bubble Bobble, Kabuki Quantum Fighter. There's several others below $20 that are commonly recommended by people, but I either haven't played or think are just mediocre/passable. I also like some others that I didn't mention, but probably because of nostalgia.
I'd say you're pretty spot on about Capcom. Worst thing they did was some scummy DLC practices in the late 2000s/early 2010s, but compared to the stuff companies like Konami or Blizzard have done, that's almost a non-issue. Also, if you're still curious, Faxanadu is pronounced "fuh-zah-nuh-doo", as it's a hybrid of the words "Famicom" (the Japanese name for the NES) and Xanadu, the second game of the Dragon Slayer series by Nihon Falcom (who also made the Ys series), which Faxanadu is a spinoff of.
Surprised by the price of Ninja Gaiden. A lot of these games you'd believe were more expensive, but that comes down to region. Scandinavian releases cost an arm and a leg plus your granny. Great content, looking forward to your 2024 output!
I actually just ordered Blaster Master just before viewing this video and guessed this game when he was gonna reveal it. 😂 It was only $15 with free shipping! I love the NES!!
You know you're in for a good time when the video you click on starts with a toon coyote (wolf? jackal? maned fox? I don't know) sharing very personal information. Thanks for the laughs and facts, Stu, happy holidays ✌ Definitely wouldn't mind a Disney Afternoon vid
Well, Capcom was the first to give us on-disc DLC with Street Fighter X Tekken. They cancelled Mega Man Legends 3. They shut down Clover Studios (but at least it gave us PlatinumGames). Also, Faxanadu is pronounced “Fa-Sanadu”. Fa there stands for Famicom. It was originally a PC-88 or MSX game, and Faxanadu is a Famicom spinoff. And it’s made by the Ys people.
Watching this made my neck pain much more bearable. And thanks for reminding me to rewatch your TurboGrafx-16 videos again, they're fantastic. Hope this comment helps the algorithm and Merry Christmas, Stu.
😂dude, i just saw your channel today and instantly subscribed! Lol. You are hilarious! Lol. And ive played most these games when i was a kid so i know even though you're funny and entertaining us, you're exactly right though! Those old nes games were no joke! Some ive never beaten to this day 40 years later! 🤘
The third Ninja Gaiden is far more rare back. A great selling game back in the day sold in the hundreds of thousands, not the millions. Exceptions of course being things like Mario/Duck Hunt.
Ninja Gaiden 1 took me a while to finish and I was hyped for part 2. I beat 2 in a day 😂.. When 3 came out the game was challenging again, but I kinda didn't care, I was already into SNES. I think that's why 3 is expensive, the last few NES titles and their low runs
Ninja and samurai (contrary to popular belief) are actually both samurai. Think of "samurai" more like a general military term, and shinobi (the actual historical name for "ninja") as a more specialized soldier in the military. Think modern day snipers. You wouldn't say that a sniper isn't a Marine. Likewise, a ninja is still a samurai.
Xexyz is a fantastic game! It was developed by Atlus (same studio behind Persona and Shin Megami Tensei!) It was published by Hudson, but it wasn’t created by them. Really fun title, even if it’s pretty strange Also, tip for Adventure Island - there are indeed continues in that game, they’re just hidden very strangely! You have to find the Hudson Bee in stage 1 and it’ll unlock the function for the rest of the game. Hope that helps! :)
I'll tell you something Capcom did that'll piss you off: They said in a presentation declaring that literally any form of game modification--including cosmetic mods, single-player-only mods, and third-party bug fixes--is cheating.
One minute in, and he's preaching to the choir! I'm talking about Netflix Android Games!! Good ones! On Android!!!! You gotta have Netflix to get 'em, when will they delist them? Not if, when?!?
I would totally love for you do more of these videos since I don’t have a lot of money and love collecting games I know you’ve had trouble with ps2 emulation in the past but I’d love for you to do something like this for the ps2 or ps1
Why’s Stu know what my zipper sounds like? That’s sus! Also can’t help but wonder how Dixie and Ray fit down those narrow dungeon passageways. 😏 Jokes aside, awesome video and a great list of games!
Im using famicom games on my nes as well as the nes games we got here in north America the more expensive ones are cheap on famicom most of them are in english anyways
What if Stu downloaded Flashpoint and reviewed his favourite flash games? He's a millenial, so it wouldn't be impossible that he's played a Flashgame or two.
I be honest with you. Adventure Island might be a huge classic but I think it is a tad bit overrated. Especially if you played the NES sequels 2, 3 and 4. Once you played any of those you can't even stomach going back to the first. Worst of all almost no one ever talks about the sequels despite in my opinion they are among best platformers on the NES. Adveture Island 4 in particular is very impressive for the NES.

Darkwing Duck even more so.
Dragon Warrior is 90% grinding levels. It's the majority of the game. Beat the cartridge to test my patience back in 2010
Did the same a few years back. Had a good time but don't think I'll do it again anytime soon.
Still, I might play it for nostalgia now and then.
I am proud to say that I beat Blaster Master when I was in 6th grade 😁
I would be interested in the Disney thing. DarkwingDuck had an awesome game :)
Finally... Working man games is... Working.

Yes they Are.
Ninjas are masters of Stealth while Samurai have a code of honor but CAN learn Ninjustu as a discipline
MegaMan 3 can (for the time being, as of 2024) STILL be had for about $18 if you shop around, which is absolute steal. Also, Pinball can be had for like $5, which is a really fun score chaser.

14:44 RE4R on hardcore difficulty is one of the most fun games Capcom has ever made smh
Master Blaster is unfinished childhood business for me. it's nearly impossible to clear without saves states. that and the fact that you could probably find a house out there somewhere built with Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt combo cartridges instead of bricks
Name one other thing Capcom did? RE3 Remake, RE6 and the spin off RE games like Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps.
I actually just ordered Blaster Master just before viewing this video and guessed this game when he was gonna reveal it. 😂 It was only $15 with free shipping! I love the NES!!
Swords and Serpents is great and supports 2 and 4 players.
You know you're in for a good time when the video you click on starts with a toon coyote (wolf? jackal? maned fox? I don't know) sharing very personal information. Thanks for the laughs and facts, Stu, happy holidays ✌
Definitely wouldn't mind a Disney Afternoon vid
Dragon warrior,a ten dollar game that was free on the GB back then. A funny thing about the game, your name determines your stats.
Ha, I would LOOOOVE to see a video of you doing all the Disney Afternoon games
Well, Capcom was the first to give us on-disc DLC with Street Fighter X Tekken.

Disney Afternoon Games? Hell yeah!
Also, happy you’re back! I’ve missed you!
Pretty good list! If you want you should check out The Guardian Legend! That one is really cool and doesn't drain your wallet either!
The Guardian Legend is awesome. I'll never forget the hand cramps endured whilst battling the final boss, though.
The third Ninja Gaiden is far more rare back.
A great selling game back in the day sold in the hundreds of thousands, not the millions. Exceptions of course being things like Mario/Duck Hunt.

I'm stealing that first expression.
Oh yo, Blaster Master! You know, Inti Creates made a 8 bit remake/reboot of the series recently if that ever catches your interest
Don't mind me, just feeding the algorithm as requested. Keep up the good shit, Stuart.

It'd be fun to see more of this type of video but with SNES or Genesis games
One minute in, and he's preaching to the choir!
I'm talking about Netflix Android Games!!
Good ones! On Android!!!!
You gotta have Netflix to get 'em, when will they delist them? Not if, when?!?
Simon's Quest may not be as good as 1 and 3 but it's still awesome brother
You should make a list of cheap 2 player games
Adventure Island is my favorite and id ask you to play it again with the hudson bee
Do a video on Milon's Secret Castle.
Holy crap new episode how did I not know about it
I would totally love for you do more of these videos since I don’t have a lot of money and love collecting games I know you’ve had trouble with ps2 emulation in the past but I’d love for you to do something like this for the ps2 or ps1

Fun fact: The creator of Ninja Gaiden also created Klonoa!
Capcom has begun copyright striking videos that have mods or potentially even emulations of their games in them. So that sucks.
I remember when gamers made fun of Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion for selling horse armor DLC. Those were better days.
Watch scalpers raise the price of these games in 3... 2... 1...
I call it the Enter.
I could visualize at 8:40 but couldn't pronounce it. Got me! 😅
1:21 It's True!
so inti creates did a trilogy for the last game for current systems. all three solid and they go to 11 on the anime stuff.
this is the 2nd time i've come across your channel
What if Stu downloaded Flashpoint and reviewed his favourite flash games? He's a millenial, so it wouldn't be impossible that he's played a Flashgame or two.
I mighta played a few rounds of Sonic The Pervert in my day
yaaayyy the yote returns c:

what site did you use for checking on game prices on?
Please review all the Nickelodeon Kart Racer games.
The regular entertainment system
If you think getting lives in Adventure Island is cryptic, then you have not played Grand Theft Auto 1 on PS1.
ps2 has some relatively cheap games…imo sounds like an eventual episode in this side show
16:16 Would like that.
Hi, can you unprivate your Mangled Mario The VHS Adventure video?
egg-cellent
6:35 I was not expecting a Town With No Name reference to be in this video of all places
Funny how you klikbated Jekyll and Hyde in the thumbnail, an awful game that goes for $20
The rot grindset
33 yo boomer??? My child!!!
Where is your review of *Jazz Jackrabbit 2* ?
