The mattress is what makes canvas swags bulky. If you take out the mattress, many of the single canvas swags can be folded up into a small parcel, but you still have several kg of canvas so its heavy to carry on foot. So creating a bedroll type swag which just rolls out for hiking could address the mattress? Locating the air valve in an easy place to access when it is in the swag. Deflating feature to get all the air out easily. Also the outer skin when rolled up could be toughened, like maybe a piece of material like shade cloth which can double as a mat (not waterproof but lets water drain away so it does not sit under the swag all night in a puddle) and is easy to shake out and dry. What about the weight, you might ask, well if the swag can be turned into a useful bedroll, do you need a pack that has straps and zips and weights more than 1.5kg? Add up the weight of the total package to see where the weight can be saved, IE the swag turns into the pack effectively when it is used in bedroll format, you roll your gear into the bedroll and have a smaller shoulder bag for the things you use during the day. Creating a useable light weight bedroll for hiking would require many Aussie hikers to completely rethink packs and how they carry stuff, and it would set-up a shelter that just rolls out when you need it, complete and ready to sleep in after inflating the mattress.

I’ve always thought this, my work around is simply to put an air mattress inside with a line of Velcro underneath in the middle, stays as one with my bivi, doesn’t slide around, and lets all air out when rolling up if you position the nozzle at the opposite end. I bring one of those tiny portable inflators to pump it up easily. If this walkabout swag wasn’t so damn expensive it would be a perfect setup, because my current bivi doesn’t breath well, I’m forced to sleep with it open under my tarp with a bug net, which is rough in the cold but still super convenient over a tent setup or canvas swag. Here’s to hope Alton reduces the price of this one day. The new 3 hooped version would be perfect with the Velcro mattress.

Okay guys. Where have you been all my life? Your gear is so superior it’s nuts! You’re like a one-stop shop of quality solo wild camp gear. You’re like Snow Peak without the price tag. And the weight. And the snob value.
And shipping to the UK🇬🇧 is free! I think I’m in love!

I bought a single swag just before I found out about you folks. This swag look's great. We get plenty of rain and snow down here in Tasmania. Keen to someday try yours out. Keep up the good work, your products look great 👍

for bike packing it would be nice to have some tarp system to cover the bike/panniers and have partially covered the entrance to a bivy (swag) as if it rains this is not an ideal entrance point ... and have a dried spot to enter in bivy between the bike and side entrance of a bivy to have a porch ?

Do the same thing, but instead of poles have small inflatable beams that you can use the stuff sack as a pump.. even more lightweight with the same great design

They took the Carinthia Micro Tent concept and modified it. Not complaining, we need a local outfitter that can provide well designed products locally. But lets not beat around the bush the wheel is not being reinvented here. What we're gaining are similar products to what have already been designed in Europe many years ago, but from a local owned company. I think the limited availability to quality gear without ordering from overseas is Alton's greatest asset to the Australian market.

Oh look I’m first to comment, does that mean I get one for free? 😏
Great job guys, it looks amazing. Now you’ve made Scotty’s swag, you need to make Matsy’s poncho. Something at least 7 by 5

Can it be waterproof and breathable at the same moment?

that s what i was wondering on also. it s one of those things that sounds just too perfect to be real and have all those advantages. i m hoping this really is *that* sorcery and somehow it s just perfect even if it shouldn t be possible

It’s not, it’s a goretex style fabric, which means it’s neither very breathable nor very waterproof especially long term
