I teared up watching this. I saw Riverside a couple of weeks prior to Piotr's passing. I think the reason I got emotional is that I watched you both get touched by this music. Their concert here in California in a small theater was in my top 5 concerts ever. I have seen them all.

Great!! I discovered Riverside about 6 years ago, with their album Love, Fear and the Time Machine, which I think is great! But only 6 months after that their guitarist, Piotr Grudziński, passed away. Boom, just like that... Strange enough, from that moment on I got even more into Riverside. I saw them play life twice so since (without Piotr...). Can't wait to see them life again after this pandemic. To me their best song is Second Life Syndrome. A 15 minute epic with all elements which make Riverside such a great band!! Hopefully you can react to that!

Oh god, there are so many very good Riverside songs, it's difficult to name only a few, but some of my personnal favourites are "In two minds", "Before", "Parasomnia" (a real masterpiece !), "Hyperactive", "Escalator shrine", "Discard your fear" (GREAT bass line for Lex ;) ), "Lament" (very sad but so beautiful !), and maybe above all others "Forgotten land". I also highly recommend to listen to Mariusz Duda's (Riverside bassist / singer) side project, Lunatic Soul, especially the new album, Through shaded woods., which is a very interesting mix of progressive rock / metal and slavic folk.

Riverside is one of my favorite bands. Yes, they are very much a cross between Porcupine Tree and Marillion. So many songs to pick from, so just go anywhere you want to. You won't be disappointed. The song that got me into them was "The Same River", an instrumental (there's a beautiful live version too). "Saturate Me" is another of my favorites. Their guitar player, Piotr Grudziński unfortunately passed away a few years ago. Their bassist/singer Mariusz Duda also has a great side project called "Lunatic Soul" which I love.
Talking of Poland, another band to check out would be Indukti. There album SUSAR is brilliant and features Mariusz Duda as well.

  • @Rhymic78

Looking forward to your reactions to Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, No Man, Bass Communion,
Blackfield, Storm Corrosion, etc...). He’s the king of 5.1 and remixes of ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson,
Yes among many others. Perfectionist when it comes to sound quality, song / story progression and
musicianship beyond the ordinary. Alan Parsons even had a hand with “The Raven That Refeused to
    Sing and Other Stories”. Genius.

I see a lot of requests but the people never give you any idea of their musical upbringing. Me I am a baby boomer early 1950s, I grew up listening to the likes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Johnny Mathis. At 7 years old I got my first clock radio. Growing up out west I was privy to the early rock scene. I would stay up late dial in Wolf man Jack and listen to Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and the early Motown sounds. In 1963 my dad went to work for a vending company and guess what they did with the records that come off juke boxes, us kids got them. My 45 collection covered everything that was top 10 for 7 years (still wish I had it). This is when I discovered Lps or albums. It was a magical awakening. Radio stations only played a small part of the wonderful music of the time. When I join the military a new world was set in front of me. Album rock is a style onto itself. I bought a untold number of albums through out the late 1969s to 1980. It got to where I would go to a record store with nothing in mind but just the artwork on the album would peak my interest. I discovered progressive rock and fell in love. So many artists in this genre have gone unnoticed and as time goes by I will request songs that never got any recognition but deserve to be discovered by the new generation of audiophiles.

Riverside is a great band .... their former guitarist Piotr Grudzinski ( RIP) may have looked like a tuff guy biker , but his tone was like angels singing....
Mariusz Duda , singer/bassist ,and principal songwriter , is really underappreciated. AND ....he has collaborated with Steven Wilson ( Porcupine Tree) on a song called "The Old Peace"
Another great Polish band is Lion Shepherd.....try " Uninvited"

  • @mvunit3
    @mvunit3 3 роки тому +1

Back in 2003-04 (and also a few years prior), I was listening a LOT to a Progressive Rock/Metal internet station out of Colorado, which had a very close-nit group of International listeners. We were always ahead of the curve of bands that later got TONS of recognition, or still considered obscure (from Fates Warning, Cynic, Spiral Architect, Watchtower, Spastic Ink, Spocks Beard, Enchant, Flower Kings, Transatlantic, Pain of Salvation, Opeth and then years later; Leprous, Haken, Porcupine Tree, Big Big Train, Beardfish, Black Bonzo, Änglagård, Anekdoten
, OSI, Blotted Science, Ne Obliviscaris, Wintersun and many others) and . . . Riverside.
All it took was the opening track from their debut "Out of Myself" (2004) - The Same River, for all of us at the station to fall in love with them. I HIGHLY suggest that track, not because its over 12 minutes, but the music _within_ it. It had everything you need to know about Riverside and what was to come :).
Sadly, the excellent guitarist Piotr Grudziński died in 2016 at the age of 40 :(. The Vocalist/Bassist Mariusz Duda, now plays the guitar parts in-studio for each album since Piotr's death. You also may want to checkout another band Mariusz is part of called "Lunatic Soul", which is like Riverside/Porcupine Tree with a violinist.
    - Thanks NickNLex, Its awesome that MORE people are now turned-onto this band.

NicknLex, ihr MÜSST unbedingt Second Life Syndrom hören (zwinker, zwinker).

Sorry for being persistent. Could you react to Take Your Fingers From My Hair by Zebra and then Dream Theater's cover of it? And then please react to Dream Theater's cover of To Tame a Land by Iron Maiden. I would really appreciate it!!😀
