Thank you for sharing this. I saw it rebroadcast a few years ago on TV. I was interested in the dangerous chimp. Notice Ed wisely moved away from the beast right away. I am a former circus performer. I can tell you, most asssuredly, that no animal deserves to be in the business of show. Carson was lucky to have not lost at least a finger to Zippy. The trainer is an odd duck, to be certain. Notice the hand movement of Zippy when he was asked to wave to Johnny.
I do too. 💯 I do a lot of research on monkeys and apes, including reporting a lot of the abusers on social media. I can’t stand how they do the things they do to primates. Watching this episode; 1. You can tell this chimp is abused. It is obvious he isn’t allowed to be a chimp. He is very quiet which normally is not the case, no way he should be able to light a lighter and have to smoke a cigarette. That is cruel. Yes, animal rights are a lot more serious today, but humans then still should have been able to spot abuse and what is wrong with what is happening. The owner even said prior to trying the spaghetti, “he hasn’t eaten today”. How do you not feed an animal for a whole day. 😢 2. If Joan Embery had been on this episode or saw this behavior she would have fought to take this chimp away from this owner/handler. She would have been a force to reckoned with. I don’t know the story of Zippy, but I’m going to find out. Ext 😂, but I hope he had a better ending to his life than he did for the first 12 years. 😢
Johnny was a great host, the best really. But this humanization and exploitation of Skippy by his “dad” was unfortunate, and unfair to Skippy. I’m glad such misuse of animals is less common these days.
Chimps are cute. Unfortunately they are too much like humans. Murderous and violent animals. Glad nothing bad happened on the show. Love and miss Johnny…
How dare you compare this ape to humans!!! Their not half as bad humans, I mean just look at what college students are doing today, rioting colleges and supporting terrorist.
I'm glad you can't have chimps legally in the US anymore without being licensed as a animal rescue, etc. Poor Zippy, he wasn't born to be this guys toy.
@@MarcusN-kp1jn This was another time and Johnny was a good man. He cared about animals more than most during this period. I heard him talk about the fur trade and all of that. So he was a good guy who really loved animals. But should Zippy had been "trained" to do tricks and live outside his habitat? No, of course not. How about aliens pick you up tomorrow and "train" you to do stupid tricks it impress their friends. And smoking, dude that ain't even good for people but there he is. Has worse happened to his species? Sure, probably so. But that don't make it right. Animals aren't here to be our toys.
Johnny some people die in a fire like my mom did don't joke about something that is serious everybody needs smoke detector it SAVES LIVES my mom didn't make it.
So, nobody can ever have a laugh because YOUR MOM died in a fire. Sympathies to you, but do you know who else cares about you and your mom? Nobody. You are the reason we're afraid to laugh anymore, and comedians are afraid to make us laugh. Luckily, I'm over 60 and have no filter anymore.

Yes...just awful....almost as sad as the whiny crybaby Society we have today.....in basic training in all the military they can't yell at recruits.....it's the fucking military, you sign up to get screamed at, domeaned and told what todo.....we need more full metal jacket drill Sargents and less baby sitters running the military, teachers need to start smacking kids with paddles and rulers and tv shows need to be more like dukes of hazzard and airwolf and less like the good doctor and ....whatever that other shit is on abc. .....parents scared to let their kids go outside by themselves when they should be riding bikes without helmits. ....hell kid should at least go outside, get off the iPad and Xboxes and go see the sun.
When Carson aired, it wasn't just a different time in history, it was flat out a completely different world.
Amazing guests. I love Carson in his element. He’s always so entertaining.❤❤
Heavy skates :((
And I preferred it.

This was incredibly dangerous to have a adult male chimp on set.
It was hanging onto true comedy and Entertainment, As it was going the way of the Dinosaurs who preferred Death to no Laughter 🎉🎉❤!!
Zippy is a lot smarter than a lot of humans.

My son gave me a kit to repair nylons for Mother’s Day-I still cherish this
I feel so sorry for Zippy....
I do too. 💯

Doc caught Johnny off guard!
Zippy AND Uecker!!! Fantastic!
Zippy reminds me of Don Rickles
OMG that is too funny!
I think Kent's were Zippys preferred ciggarrete brand...
He ruled!
Absolutely HILARIOUS!! 😅😅😅
They are showing this episode on Antenna tv. Tonight. Zippy was so cool to watch.

Are you violent and murderous?

Are you a chimp whisperer? He doesn't look like he's suffering.

Kathleen was so nervous but who wouldn’t be.
I'd be terrified of Zippy!

I'm sorry about your mom. His point was it was a silly Mother's day gift not that mom's don't need them.
Horrible how that chimp was treated.

@@roberttemple2521 I read years ago that Ed heard Zippy throwing a fit in the trainers dressing room & was terrified of him I don't blame him.
And this ape still has better manners than any college student.😂

Lol ,,radiation is funny????
This was a simpler time before everyone was soft and easily offended.
This was a time before the butt hurt generation arrived.
@@guestuser4503 What a sad remark.
