In my opinion, it still makes absolutely no sense to buy an old and outdated steering wheel or system, just because it's cheaper or you can get it faster. Of course, if you're into simracing, if you're into arcade racing or racing any game here and there, any wheel will do you good. These gear/belt driven wheels have nothing to do with simracing.
@@JulianNDL i dont think i understand your view. i do sim race and with a t300. i honestly don't think you need more than a T300 to be competitive in sim racing.
@hardusbooyse8896 Simracing is not about being competitive. You can be the fastest one with a joystick, too, or even on a keyboard. It's about the feeling that the entire setup gives you, a feeling close to driving a real car. From how powerful the FFB is, FFB details, pedals, a good simrig, and so on. That's why it is called sim racing. It simulates a car, which all these old wheels can't even remotely do.
@@JulianNDLwow ok not about being competitive.. so just driving around with AI because you believe that it feels like a real gt3 car. If you have access to a proper real GT3 Simulator then maybe it would make sense but very few people have ever driven a go cart or standard production race car let alone a GT3. No standard game that you buy on steam will ever be close to the real deal. The only reason why people with real race experience are fast on games is because of the smooth control inputs they learned in real life. My view on sim racing is different. I try to win with what I have, and i do compete in top splits with "old wheels" ive done a lap on youtube just yesterday with my old t150 on monza just to show how close i can get to a 1:46 with terrible wheel.
Let me explain it another way. Even though my daily is an electric car, and I'm all in for electric cars, but what you are saying is exactly like driving a Model S PLAID in which you can easily win against other cars, but the race won't be as fun and as entertaining as driving a GT3 car, in which you can feel every bump on the road, every gear shift, every apex. There is nothing wrong in winning a race with the Plaid if your goal is being the fastest on the track, like nothing is wrong in winning a race with the T300/T248, or you name it. I still own the T300. But if you are driving/racing for the feeling the car/the wheel base gives you, then you won't get that in a Tesla or with a T300, and I can tell you both from experience. :) And if you are saying that a wheel can't give you a real racing experience, you are so very wrong, my friend. Especially the high-end ones. There are so many real racing drivers on youtube, which are also simracing and talking about their real-life racing and simracing experience.
I find it odd that nearly everybody has overheating issues with their t300/TX. I've been running an OG Ferrari 458 Italia TX base for about 5 or 6 months and never had this issue even on long drifting and rally sessions. I like the wheel a lot but after upgrading from a g920 I can still feel more to be desired. There's a TS-PC for sale locally for $300. I think I may upgrade to that while I wait for the T818 to have wheel options that don't need the old QR adapter. T818 is the end goal, but as I upgrade, I sell my old gear to my friends at discounts so everybody wins 🤷
I've owned two T300 bases, and they all overheated. Why the TS-PC? Have a look at the R5 or the CSL DD Ready2Race. They're better wheel bases, and you enter the DD realm of steering wheels. It's just my opinion, but i think you won't regret it. Yes, i get it, your goal is the T818, but for me, it makes no sense buying today a belt/gear driven wheel base.
@jackcraters1425 The T300 is well known for its overheating problems. The Internet is full of mods for it by making its cooler on all the time to replace the stock cooler with a bigger one and cutting the cover to make room for more air flow. It's good you didn't have any problems with yours. Maybe you were really lucky with it. From my personal experience, owning two T300 and a TX until this point, I can tell you all had overheating problems. One T300 was used, and the second one I bought new.
Have you tried playing F1 games with the TS-Xw base? The T300 sucks playing F1 games! So I’m looking to upgrade to a TGT II which shares the same motor as the TS-XW so I’m wondering if the TGT II will be a good upgrade. Can’t afford DD system yet plus all my ecosystem is Thrustmaster. Great video btw! Thank you
Thank you. Unfortunately, I did not. The TS-XW impressed me, given the fact that it is not a DD. The biggest drawback of it, I think, is the response time and the level of FFB details. Yes, it feels strong enough in comparison with the T300, not as strong as my GT DD Pro, but it feels a little bit laggish, again, compared to a DD wheel.
I just bought a csl dd…and I can barely tell the difference between it and my t300..bunch of marketing hype..the smoothness feels the same and it kinda feels almost identical..it feels like there is a belt inside ..it just doesn’t make any noise ..the t300 is still worth it if u get it cheap
t300 is still great for the price if you can get it at a discount like I did (new for about 40% off), although not worth it when I see some retailers listing it as the same price as the r5 bundle. If you can get it for cheap it is a great deal, but if you are going to spend r5 money on a t300 get an r5 instead.
You are perfectly right! Exactly, like is also said about the TS-XW. They're good beginner wheels, but they're overpriced nowadays, especially when you have the r5 and the csl dd 5 nm at the same price.
@@Shikitera I live in Europe, and to be more precise in Austria. Just the T300 wheel base costs 250 euros, without a steering wheel or pedals! The T300 RS GT Edition is around 380-400 euros, which nowadays is a joke, to be honest, as long as you have so many new DD wheels like the R5, the CS DD Ready2race and even the Cammus C5. That is why I keep insisting that these wheel are not worth buying anymore nowadays, and leaving aside the price, accessories, wheels, and that they're belt/gear driven wheel bases it's also about the future of these systems.

Hello there, thanks a lot for this Video! I may have a question and luckily came across your video. I'm using a T300 with TH8A Shifter and Logitech G27 Pedals with an adapter cable. You got me interested to upgrade to a TS-XW but i also use it for some games i got on Playstation 4 and 5. Is the TS-XW also compatible with a PS4/5 as well? The upgrade sounds worth it but this factor makes me a bit unsure.
What does a beginner wheel mean after all? A lot of people are saying it’s good as a beginner wheel. It’s not like you buy a cheap car on which you can learn how to drive, it doesn’t matter if you hit a curve or a wall, but you do the job with it. You can buy the most expensive simracing wheel out there and still be a beginner. You can set the FFB and Torque to 1% if needed. There’s no such thing as a beginner wheel. Yes, you can find that excuse if you don’t afford a more expensive one, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but still it’s a nonsense.
i got to try a fanatec wheel during a mclaren sim racing event, and it feels so much better in comparison to the t300 that i have, will definitely be saving for a fanatec wheel.
@@JulianNDL only thing i have difficulty with is finding a seat that fits me, at the mclaren event i needed to bend my legs sideways, because the knees would hit the steering wheel otherwise
@salami_boi3169 I am also a tall and big guy, and the GT Omega Titan rig fits me just perfect. I actually own two of them. It's rock solid and handles the GT DD Pro or the Moza R9 just perfect.
You should maybe put your lap times and the car to see if other people has the same performance issues with the wheel. Cause a difference in seconds in lap time means making mistakes, but nothing is shown in the video, only default footage with a voice-over. It's valuable information, but it is just your word.
Lap times are irrelevant and have nothing to do with what wheelbase i'm using. A wheelbase does not make you slower or faster, and I'm not talking about that in my videos, but rather the feeling the wheel gives you and how realistic or not the FFB is.
And to be more specific, I've never talked about lap times in my videos because, at least for me, sim racing is not how fast i am or to be the fastest. You can be fast or the fastest with a controller, keyboard, a G29, or the most expensive wheel base out there. As a matter of fact, one subscriber has a few world records in WRC Generations playing with a controller. I'm into Simracing for the feeling of it, and I want that to be as close as possible to driving a real race car.
@@JulianNDL I respect that opinion. Problem is you just told me something in one video but is different from the previous one. I don't know which info is the more accurate. In your top wheels "don't buy cheap" videos, the T300 had better scores with the same score system. Did the wheel get worst? Did you get worst? Did you achieve a better understanding of the hardware? The numbers certainly have changed, but the object reviewed is the same.It really is not about how fast you are, but about having access to your raw data, cause for some reason the scores are inconsistent.
@sesinhosantos5047 I think I said, or maybe I forgot to specify in my videos, but the rating system is just for that video alone and just comparing those 2 ore more wheelbases. I know, it's a bit complicated, maybe too complicated, but that's how I thought it at that moment. But on short comparing by example the T248 with the T300 and if I gave the T300 on Smoothness 4.5, when comparing the Moza R9 to the T300, I can't give again 4.5 for the T300, where the R9 may have 5, because the difference is not just 0.5 between them. Yes, again, it's not the perfect system out there :)), i was still at the beginning of my UA-cam channel, and I was still trying to figure out things and how to do them. I actually took 3 months pause, and at the moment, I'm planning the next video from this series and want to do it better and more understandable.
No, of course they don't sell you a seven-year-old wheel, but the wheel itself remains essentially unchanged from seven years ago. It still overheats, the power source still breaks, and they continue to use the same old, difficult-to-use QR system. The pedals are also the same as before. I owned the previous version, which was six years old, and I also purchased the 2023 version, which essentially had the same old issues. This was the main idea conveyed in the video. Don't get me wrong; they're both still decent wheels for beginners, for kids. However, if you're looking for more than just arcade-style gaming from a steering wheel, they simply aren't worth buying.
Who decided I suck at racing games? Even so, to answer your poor question, I talk about the feeling each steering wheel gives you! That has nothing to do with racing! I’m sure every car reviewer out there is a professional driver, right? I’ve heard they all are F1 drivers, WRC drivers, some race in Nascar and so on! Gosh! Some of you people, I tell you!
@culanap I respect your opinion, but I must disagree! That way, every tv show is/would be hard to watch. I did them short and on point. If one is interested, one watches them. If not, he doesn't.
Hello, I live in Germany. It has a thrustmaster tspc base tlmc pedal set and Ferrari steering kit for a price of 690 euros.fanatec csl dd 5 nm base pedal kit elite v2 steering wheel with elite csl wrc kit the price is 699 euros so the prices are the same In your opinion, what exactly should I choose? I heard that Thrustmaster has heating problems. How is Fanatec in this regard?
Hi. Fanatec all the way. Thrustmaster TS-PC is a good, decent wheel base, but it is old and outdated, starting from build quality to technology. It is gear/belt driven, whereas Fanatec is a direct drive wheel base. Get the Fanatec 5nm, and you have the option to upgrade it later to the 8nm version, buying the booster kit. Also, Fanatec has a wide variety of steering wheels and accessories, new and used ones. I actually have a video on the channel in which I talk about Fanatec GT DD Pro if it overheats or not.
T300 is a like a dinosaur old, it was launched almost 10 years ago. It has a small weak motor that is not capable of detailed and strong FFB. It has a lot of reliability problems from internal power source which can’t be replaced and fails so often to the small internal fan that can’t keep the T300 cool and it overheats like crazy. The T300 is a belt driven wheel base, again old and weak technology. It has a simply stupid quick release system which is made from plastic. Furthermore there is not a lot of wheel choices, and the ones available are a joke in comparison with what is available for Moza, with one or two exceptions. Moza R5 is a direct drive wheel base which is capable of great FFB details and power, it has a phenomenal quick release system, great wheel and accessories choices, incredible software and tweaking options, and i’m not even getting into build quality and the quality of the pedals and the rest of accessories. So the 200€ difference is zero, plus in my opinion the 500€ for the entire T300 bundle is simply a joke!
@@JulianNDL For a while I've been wanting to make a little simracing setup at home. I have a fairly limited budget and my thing is drifting, so ideally I would like to start with a shifter and a handbrake, I found a combo on Amazon not too expensive at 150€, + the t300 at 350€ would make me 500 (free shipping costs on amazon). The thing is that Moza is a bit of a successor to Fanatec in terms of accessories sales, the moza R5 bundle is not bad at 509€ (without shipping cost lol), but only 2 pedals, if you want 3 you have to add 44€, and if you want a simple spring on the brake you have to add another 30€... if I add the 150 of the handbrake/shifter combo + the shipping costs I'm at 774€... I've been waiting for the R3 bundle for a while to reduce the total cost a little, but apparently they don't want to release it so I tell myself that a t300 with all the accessories for €500 wouldn't be so bad for a start.
@This_is_Elzed I see your point of view, but there’s a thing there. I never understood the saying or the practice “for start”. In my point of view you lose money and time. For starters if you want to resell nowadays the T300 you won’t get not even close to half of what you paid for it, so the 200 difference to an R5 becomes at least 400 if not even 500 difference. Not even getting into how bad the T300 is in comparison with all the new DD wheels! Also, talking from my own experience, once you buy a cheap, old belt/gear driven wheelbase you’ll get bored of it in no time! I keep making this comparison, but it’s like buying and old Vw Golf 2 for 200 cheaper than the last Vw Golf VIII with all the bells and whistles. It makes absolutely no sense, especially if you want it to be a sim racing setup! Yea, if it is intended to be used as a toy in random racing games, you’re good with any cheap steering wheel. Again, i’m saying all this without even getting into build quality, accessories, reliability, software and so on.
Thank you so much. I know the A.I voice doesn't help that much, and I'm struggling with myself to do the videos with my own voice, but I'm not there yet...
Unfortunately i think i am going to have to buy the TSXW as being on console i have basically 2 options for a DD base 1, fanatec but lately from what i have been reading on Reddit and other sites it's taking an inexcusably huge amount of time to deliver the CSL McLaren DD bundle which i want. And the other choice is the Logitec T800 i think it's called but that is so bloody expensive i can not justify the price so for us console players we are screwed. I would love to have a fanatec DD base but i just can't take the risk of not getting it till January as i am having to sell my current wheel to fund it so would be without sim racing for a long time which i just can't do. When i can order the tsxw and get it within 2 days from Amazon. I am already in the thrustmaster Eco system so all i have to do is buy the base. I already have the TLCM pedals basically i am just hoping that the tsxw will be an improvement on the T300 base i am currently using.
@@mikoajmikoaj2671 Hi Miko. The TS-XW was an amazing steering wheel, but a few years ago. I think, like I said in my video, that it is an old and outdated steering wheel, with not so many wheel options, it's gear and belt driven so it has no future, and for that price I think it's very expensive nowadays. If you ask me, I would have bought the Fanatec CSL DD Ready2race Bundle, which now on Fanatec's website is 399$. It's an entry level DIRECT DRIVE base, that has a multitude of options for steering wheels (also on the used market) and that also has the option to upgrade it to 8 nm with the booster kit.
@@JulianNDL Well, I bought it from a " *safe* " store in my country. If you say the new Fanatec is much better, I'll be interested in it. Thanks for the quick message. ps. TS-XW has some advantages over the new Fanatec?
@@mikoajmikoaj2671 In my opinion it has none. TS-XW was released back in 2017, it's and old design, old technology, really bad quick release system, much worse build quality compared to DD, more expensive, less accessories and here I include extra rims, and so on. Also being a hybrid technology with gear and belt it has more parts that can brake with time, whereas the DD wheel has the wheel shaft directly in the electric motor.
@@mikoajmikoaj2671I'd take this advice with a pinch of salt, I used the TS-PC version of the TS-XW for a couple of years, it's a solid performer. The quick release can be improved with a simple inexpensive mod (quick ring) which makes using the screw unnecessary. I have since upgraded to the Fanatic CSL DD 8Nm, it might be slightly better, but it's not that big of a deal, I can do similar lap times with either (to be honest the pedals are more important to your lap times) I wouldn't rush out and change my wheelbase because of anything said in this video. The main difference between the Thrustmaster &! Fanatec is slightly better low level detail and a feeling cof immediacy, I still get to use my old TS-PC and it still puts a smile on my face. Also many of the Fanatec products are very expensive (wheels £550, over a £1,000?) that just a steering wheel. The cheap ones are ok but not any better than Thrustmaster 's better ones (Sparco & Formula types) I'd use the TS-XW for a year or so before I considered upgrading. There's nothing stopping you from using Fanatec's excellent CSL Elite V2 pedals with your TS-XW (assuming you're on PC) they probably have the best brake pedal available for considerably more than the V2's asking price, and could well be the only set you need. Yes direct drive is good, better than belt drive, but you have one of the better ones, besides there's always "better " Enjoy your racing

@antoniomassad5951 Also it, i keep repeating myself. It all depends on what you are looking for in simracing! If your goal is just to be faster or the fastest, then the T300, the G29 are as good as any other wheel! If you're looking for a higher level of immersiveness that makes you feel like you're actually driving a real car, then you need a good DD wheel.

And if you are saying that a wheel can't give you a real racing experience, you are so very wrong, my friend.
@@JulianNDL I'll take that into consideration. Thank you very much
@@HappyWheelFan2013 Anytime, mate.
@@JulianNDL I also have used a TX for over 2 years and not once has it ever overheated.
One T300 was used, and the second one I bought new.
why are you comparing a $400 wheel to 800 bucks one. absolutely mental mate.
Because they’re both old and outdated wheelbases that cost way, but way too much for what they offer. That’s why. ;)
Also, did you watch the entire video and did you watch my conclusion of the video or you just decided to be a smartest one in the room?
They're good beginner wheels, but they're overpriced nowadays, especially when you have the r5 and the csl dd 5 nm at the same price.
in europe r5 is twice the price (around 500€) without shipping comparing to t300 (250-300€) with shipping included
@@JulianNDL i live in poland and i saw full new kits with worse 2 pedal pedals for around 250€ and i bought my gt rs version new for 310€, all other dd bundles that in theory cost 400-500€ in reality cost much more than that due to taxes and shipping
@@JulianNDL also t300 base is very cheap 2nd hand and you can buy it below 100€ and add tlcm with an open wheel or 599xx evo which is imo a better combo than the "$400" fanatec bundle
Hi there. Yes, the TS-Xw is PS4/5 compatible. The TS-PC is only PC compatible.
t300/TX is still a good beginner wheel to this day... the ts-xw is too expensive but it's really good if you wanna switch from the t300/tx.
That's the cool part of DD wheels. :D
@@JulianNDL thanks, i’ll check it out
You should maybe put your lap times and the car to see if other people has the same performance issues with the wheel.
What I can say is that the T300 and TS-XE have more game compatibility than DDR and DDR also has more software problems with games
To some extent you are right, but it’s like saying there are more spare parts for a ‘92 Golf than they are for a ‘24 one.
I just bought the ts-xw. No regerts.
It's a good wheel base, but the price it currently sells for makes no sense, and compared to DD wheels, it is a downgrade.
yeah but like maybe t300 can be 7years old as ı know but they still produce it like they dont sell you a wheel waiting in factory for 7years
No, of course they don't sell you a seven-year-old wheel, but the wheel itself remains essentially unchanged from seven years ago.
@@JulianNDL ok thanks
@@akcakc-wt9dn My pleasure.
If you suck at racing sims, how do you compare such things?
Who decided I suck at racing games? Even so, to answer your poor question, I talk about the feeling each steering wheel gives you! That has nothing to do with racing! I’m sure every car reviewer out there is a professional driver, right? I’ve heard they all are F1 drivers, WRC drivers, some race in Nascar and so on! Gosh! Some of you people, I tell you!
Why are there two parts for a 4 minute video?
Why not?
@@JulianNDL Makes it hard to view all the content you put up for this topic - not too practical for viewers
T300 RS GT + 3 pedals + shifter + handbrake = 500€
Moza r5 + 3 pedals + shifter + handbrake = 700€
🙁
Again, i’m saying all this without even getting into build quality, accessories, reliability, software and so on.
good job mate great video very underated maybe because of the ai voice
I bought a TS-XW complete set today for $425 as a consumer return
Was it worth it?
Yes direct drive is good, better than belt drive, but you have one of the better ones, besides there's always "better " Enjoy your racing
this video is rediculous lollllllllllllll
Why do you think that? :)
effin chat gpt channel
Did Chatgpt get so smart to buy out of his own pocket, simhardware, and also to have two simrigs and a small youtube studio in which he spent more than 10.000 bucks? Cool! I want two please! Not to lose my own time doing these videos anymore and write scripts ever again. Lol
This is BS
HI Tim. Thank you for your comment. Could you please explain why do you think that way?
@@JulianNDL consistency has a lot to do with pedals and driver inputs, driver inputs is which really can makes u faster, specially if u do or not trailbraking or have no throttle smooth. is pretty much like a guitar u can give the best guitar to a person which dosent know how to play, no music will be produced. and if u give a simple guitar to a experienced musician a great music will be produced. according to your statement no one with a G29 can be faster, this is not what happen in real life.
i think he is righ this is bullshit, i still using a T300 (planning on upgrade) and currently i'm top 1 ranked driver in WSS, and i dont think i'm special or anything, beated a lot of guys with most high end DD's. driver 61 made a comparison some time ago, reasearch "World's Fastest Gamer vs Normal Guy | Sim Racing Challenge" and watch for yourself.
@antoniomassad5951 I'm never talking or saying that a wheel makes you faster! It helps you, like any other good tool, in making your job better, but it won't make you better. When it comes to expensive steering wheels, it's all about the feeling they give you and about the level of immersiveness they offer! And my point is still the same! They were good steering wheels, but a few years back! Today, in comparison with what we have on the market, they are just old and outdated in terms of performance, immersive level, build quality, ecosystem, price, options, accessories, and so on.
I can confirm what you are saying because I know guys who won championships with Logitech G29 against guys with expensive DD wheels!
@@JulianNDL i completely agree with price point, but not in all country's this is true.
about immersiveness its true and they can help to had better car control, i think like driver 61 said in their video its about 3-4% on the gear, the other 96-97% its on driver technique. and pedals they are definitely the best thing to upgrade first.
