Kennetrek mountain extreme 400s with wool socks is what I used this season. When it was really cold I would double up on the socks and my feet stayed warm enough.
Love these vids. We run out of options of things to wear in Wisconsin when the subzero temps and wind-chills come around. I've personally gone to heated clothes, socks, long-john's, vests, sweaters; they make it all these days and it's all rechargeable. You can get some cheaper, Chinese stuff that works ok. Then layers on top of that, preferably as much wool clothes as possible. Hot-hands are a must, or rechargeable handwarmers which I have switched to. I save so much on hot-hand products. I don't buy any "shake heaters" anymore.
@beforetheecho just gotta keep it cheep. There's lots of affordable options out there. Nobody needs to spend hundreds of dollars on some Milwaukee heated sweater.
Great subject! Rubber boots are great but longevity is about a year for me. The molded come apart (rocky, lacrosse, red head...doesn't matter) the technology isn't there for making a rubber boot that stands up to multiple seasons of actual use (20-30 hunts, not 100 yd walks to a blind) I just consider them disposable. The hiking boots I love, I have to order a full size bigger in order to accommodate warm weather socks. What I'd love to see a review on is socks that are warm but thin. That way I can get a boot that fits (my size but in a wider width) and wear socks to keep my feet warm too.
Mt boots all the way!!! I’ve had multiple pairs of old school Cabelas Mt boot and they lasted 12yrs. I went to them for two reasons first was as I got older my yrs of hard core sport training and injuries made me need a super stiff supportive boot to help my knees and ankles hunt with comfort. Second is no matter what do my feet sweat bad and rubber boots enhance that. I’ve tried the anti perspirant spray route and change of socks but can’t handle it. To help with stream crossings I where gaiters and put pants over them. Then I blouse them with a Titan strap at or just above ankle. As long as I don’t linger and I move steady with my DWR treated pants and gaiter combo I don’t get wet. Great video!!!
I would DEFINITELY try Gumleaf boots. They are made of 85% natural rubber and do NOT come apart. The other boots you mention are maybe 30-35% natural rubber so they crack or come apart.

I priced them when I saw Dan talking about them...Pretty sure I'll wear out a pair of those before I go through 4 or 5 pair of my "disposable" boots...lol...If my rubber boots don't come apart I usually wear them out from the inside. Not sure the gums will hold up 8 yrs from how I wear them. It's all good. I catch some boots on sale, closeout or an Amazon buy for $60-70 and just prepare to get 2 seasons.
I second the Lacrosse Aerosport boots. They are super warm and surprisingly light and flexible. I wore them for a week in Kansas and put many miles on them. I only needed a thin wool sock and the 7mm option served me extremely well. Much lighter than the bulky alphaburlys!
I have a pair of Viking Neo Gumleafs, but why EXACTLY do you like the Gumleafs? I did feel my feet get a little cold the 3rd day of rifle season, however sock game needs improvement. I wear white cotton socks and then 2 pair of Walmart wool socks.
@@grinder881 I'm in northern MI and have found the trick to warm feet in Gumleafs is good wool socks and insoles (I have both wool felt insoles and the new ones from Lathrop Josh shows in this video). Ditch the cotton socks, they're only holding moisture on your feet. You want wool or a synthetic against your skin. My Gumleafs are the Saxon model. No vents or gussets that allow cold to seep in.
If you just standing around get over boots for your hikers. Rubber boots don’t last long or breath and have bad traction. I had a trip and it was below 0 my rubber boots cracked and fell apart. I wouldn’t use them more than a few hours.

When it’s cold, I use an unscented anti perspirant spray on my feet to keep them from sweating walking in

Yes them specific boots will maybe last a season. The neoprene gets holes so easily.

I started useing the hot hands to warmers and the keep my feet warm even when they're wet.
