    I just watched several of your touring videos, and I had absolutely NO IDEA of the magnitude of the behind-the-scenes "administrative things" that need to happen before a band even leaves on a tour. Things such as crew names (duh), addresses, emergency contacts, birthdays, food allergies, etc. Then passports for int'l travel, catering, hotel rooms, the list goes on and on. Thank you so much for making these videos! They were an eye-opener for me.

    Thanks for sharing this video. This was an eye opener for sure. People don't realise how much effort goes into doing this type of work. Any small mistake can affect how an event is likely to turn out to be.

    Question for you: What happens when a show gets canceled at the very last minute, say at 8:00 am on show day? Either the main singer got sick, or the entire band exploded in a free-for-all in a hotel room at 2 am? I have a feeling you have experienced something like this in your career, and was wondering if you could expound on what happens in a case like this. Of course leave out artists' names; we don't need to know that part. What does the catering vendor do, who has already cooked enough scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, fresh fruit plates, and gallons of coffee for 65 people? Donate the food to a local shelter? And say they have already bought some food items for lunch and dinner, but won't have use for it anymore? (I suppose they could use it for another event.) Thanks for making these videos to let us know what goes into tour planning.

    Amazing video!! I love it. I have a doubt about what is then a road manager or is the same as a tour manager, and in what structure would it be ? thank youu

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  2 роки тому +1

      Good question! From Andrea "Depending on the structure of the tour, a road manager can work WITH the tour manager to manage the crew specifically. On tours of 150+ people, the tour manager will usually handle A + B party (artist and band) while the road manager mostly handles C party (the crew). The road manager and the tour manager work together to take care of the whole tour party, but you divide who handles the bulk of each group. "

    I’m trying to get into the music industry in the music management side of it! Where do you suggest to start or do you have any possible tips to get into the door anywhere!?
    Thanks!

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed it! You really have to take any gig you can and start there. The music business runs on word of mouth and is unlike a typical job. You need technical experience, but just as important, people have to enjoy working with you. Work your butt off, and get your name around.

    Hi, I am just seeing this video right now but I completely loved it ! I am currently studying Public Relations and I am looking for an internship for next year and I would love to do it with a tour manager. Do you have any tips for me to help me find an internship in this side of the music industry ? Thanks

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  Рік тому +3

      This is not Andrea speaking, but I know her background. She did go to college for music business, not specifically touring. She did a lot of internships at venues and got her name around and eventually wound up on a small tour and worked her way up. You definitely do not have to go to college to get into this career, but it can help you get connections (although not guaranteed).
      Andrea talks a little more specific in detail in this interview, if you are curious. ua-cam.com/video/MruxqoiNC74/v-deo.html

    Wow that's a lot of responsibility! Do people on the tour management team still have jobs when no tour is happening?

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  2 роки тому +2

      From Andrea, "Yes! When we are off tour we are planning for the next run. All is the advancing happens weeks, if not months, before we leave for tour. Booking flights, finding hotels, advancing with the venue, and much more happens in between runs. These responsibilities are only for the prod team, the rest of the crew gets actual time off in between runs. "

    • @PAFMCo

      Sorry for the late response. This is not from Andrea, because she is currently on tour, but from what we have discussed before: You work your way up by doing every gig you can and networking along the way. The music industry is an industry that runs entirely on word of mouth. You not only have to have technical experience, but people have to like working with you. Work your butt off, and get your name around.
      I know Andrea went to college and did a lot of internships at venues and her name got around and eventually wound up on a small tour and worked her way up.

    Thanks for sharing, how do you get paid if you work for few managers of different roles?

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the question. You get paid by the band/artist you are working for, you aren't paid from the manager. You are on a freelance contract.

    I'm currently a stagehand but my ambition is to be a production manager. How would you recommend I get there? Do I need school, if so what degree? Do I just work my way up from stagehand to tech and so on? What's the path?

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  4 місяці тому

      You don't necessarily need schooling but it is all about making connections in the industry. There is no straight obvious path there and you typically have to work your way up.

    I just googled average salaries for production coordinators- it's a terribly small numbers compared to the hours and duties this woman is listing off. I guess the excitement of the job and the connections help but honestly with so much on the line these people holding the tour together deserve more.

    • @PAFMCo
      @PAFMCo  Рік тому

      Agreed, but the salary varies a lot depending on the artist and how big the tour is.

    I have a professional, singer songwriter. She’s a good talent, but she can’t get along with her road manager. She’s too restrictive for her I wanna take my dog and she’s too prudish when she makes a joke about something she says Australia I’ve had to talk to my friend that is really making a big music. Do you guys live tour? She wants a little bit of freedom group managers are terrible. I don’t think they understand artists.
