thanks for posting this. I love all the nc beaches south of Kitty hawk and videos like these make me smile!
Wow wow good video 👍👍👍👍
best time of my life was surf fishing with my dad in the cape H. lots of blues and flounder. Much love and respect from Kansas.
looks like a good time , seems the weather saids you fellas are in for a beating this weekend. stay safe out there hopefully the storm don't destroy too much for you.
I saw Frisco Pier in one of the shots after it was hit by the hurricane. Fished next to it back in '12 and was catching black drum (8) in the 20inch range. On the right side were black drum and on the left were nice size mullets. Had a great day of fishing. Enjoyed the vid and the memories it brought back. Thanks
Love the OBX.lived in little brown ,round /hexagonal/octagonal house in kill devil hills for around 8-9 months in the early 90’s.could step of the back deck ,walk about 50-75 feet,go under 1 strand of barbed wire ,walk a little bit more a come out of scrub bushes/trees right at the base of Wright brothers monument. That little house is still there.not sure why.nice houses all around it now & the land must be worth a fortune by now.check it out on google earth .short bike ride to the beach.fond memories. That broken down pier area looks awesome.where exactly was this video taken?
what size line was used on that sting ray? just dragged it in without any worry of the line breaking
Good video. Thanks for posting it!
Roll Tide!
Awesome!!!
I go fishing on the Oregon coast (surf & jetty). I use clam necks and catch only flounders. Got any tips to catch different species and bigger fish?
Love your vid
Huge stingray. That had to be an awesome fight. I caught a smaller version my last trip to OBX.
That is a nice rod great casting
Man lol had just visited Frisco wish I would've seen you guys fishing
How did you unhook the stingray
NICE shots
Nice catches. Last summer I was fishing at Wilmington beach and caught a sharp-nosed shark and a couple other small fish. Have you guys ever fished there?
Can you use moss green braid to fish with? I dont want to have to spool on mono if i dont have to. Thanks!
We fish with braid a lot....however, we use 40lb mono as a leader. Not sure that it is really needed in the surf but it helps to give the line a little protection from the different fish with teeth. The braid is so thin, that it gets cut pretty fast with sharp teeth.
Can i ask what pier is that in the back ground ,I use to fish on the outer banks and all of my family did as well from the 1950's thur the 2001 season but so many deaths in the family have been lost that i have not been there since then.Thank you and i hope you see and answer me i would love to know.
It's the old pier by frisco
killer fun great camera
NC Rocks
It breaks my heart to see the Frisco Pier in the background in such sad shape. All kinds of stuff got caught off that pier like tarpon, king mackerel, huge sharks, amberjack, cobia, the former world record Spanish mackerel, etc. I wish the NC Aquarium would take it and rebuild it out of concrete like they did Jeanettes Pier in Nags Head. It really sucks that's it's been like that for the last few years.
Bill Davis it the Avon fishing pier
frisco pier is gone now
J Higgi no, thats the frisco pier
From the stills it looks like you got a nice deep slough in front of the bar. I am getting so psyched. I'm getting itchy just thinking about it!
Yep, there are some nice cuts that are pretty easy to see. If you go out at low tide, you can really see them. Make a mental note and fish them at high tide. There are still some that you can fish at low tide. We walked straight out from the house and fished within sight of the pier the whole trip.
Why is the pier broken ? Why had it been built ?
It was an old fishing pier that got demolished by a hurricane
What time of year do you get stripers and drum? Is there a notch size and how many can you keep each day?
You can get drum all year but fall is best, followed by the spring. Stripers are usually Jan-Feb but I don't have experience with them.
Going to frisco in a few weeks. Do you think the pier serves as a good wreck for fish to hang around?
Any structure helps but I don't think it is mandatory to catch fish in the surf. I think reading the surf will help you more. There are other youtube videos on reading the surf.
What part of Georgia?
Love seeing footage of the OBX any time ! I fished near Kitty Hawk last year and used a double drop rig. two hooks with a sinker. I had good success, caught whiting and sea trout. Looks like you guys are using just one hook with the sinker . Am I wasting time with the double ?
Some of the guys like the double rig. It usually catches the smaller fish like the whiting but the drum seem to do better on the single hook. However, we caught a nice bull red on a 3 hook pompano rig last fall. You can see that video on my channel too.
We always put our beach towels and chairs near where they are fishing, any one remember all the sharks that one year?
This is what I see at Castlepoint in the Wairarapa!
Have you seen the bridge
When I saw the rod bent over with no movement I knew it was a skate or stingray.
Used to catch nice Kings off of that pier before the hurricane....shame.
Surf fishing good
I've seen those butterfly Rays get like 10 feet across
we just got back from the outer banks the same beach as you right by the Frisco pier and together me and my father caught 3 papono, a flounder, and a 35in 12lbs blue all caught in the surf
I bet that blue was fun to catch!
o you bet it was a fighter
what bait did you use for the stingray, and where did you cast in relation to the breakers?
I'm pretty sure that it was caught on a chunk of bluefish, beyond the breakers, as far as you can cast. That rod had 17lb line with a 40lb leader.
blue15047 Thank you very much I'm looking to try this for myself when I go down there this august, and I want to catch a stingray more than anything else.
Christopher Frydenborg Good Luck!!!! They are fun to catch but the big ones take forever to get reel in.
+Christopher Frydenborg try going to Hilton head to catch rays
Some of the best bait you can use for surf fishing is blood worms, shrimp, or sand fleas that you can catch yourself right on the beach.
Good stuff. That is exactly where we have a place rented for Sept. About 6 or 7 houses north of Frisco Pier. Nice to see there's fish there. How was the beach? Any structure? Thanks. Good catchin'
Be sure to let me know how you do, and good luck!
How come you didn’t show us how you unhooked the stingray
Tiny fish and big rays 😂
what exact time of year?
It was in May
Awesome pictures !
Thank you!
youre welcome!
blue15047 Going to Outer Banks at the end of the month and plan on doing some Surf Casting ! I am looking to buy an in expensive setup Probably a 10 or 12 foot Ugly stick Bigwater and a Penn 8000 or Okuma 30 Spinning reel. What is your suggestion on rod length ? Will a 10 footer be ok or will a 12 footer make a big difference ?
Doug, a 10' will be fine. They are easier to travel with. The big advantage that I like with the 12' is that you get better casting distance and the height helps keep the line above the waves when it's in the rod holder.
Thanks Bud ! It was a successful trip ! Got my 10 footer and did well with it ! With a 2 oz lure and a 2.5 oz bullet weight I was able to get my poppers about 40 yards into the surf with wind at my face ! Everything worked out great !
Where is this in the OBX? We tried fishing in the fall around Nags Head, but the hurricane messed us up! We are planning to go this coming spring.
They are fishing right in Frisco. You can see the damaged Frisco peer in the background.
Nice video, what did you use for bait?
mostly cut bait...blues and mullet
Wat kind of surf rods are you use feet? And company
+Mikkel Dyrhof We were using several different kinds. I like the 12 foot tall models. The Penn Torque surf rods are a nice rod for the money. My favorite is the Ocean Master Surf Rod but it's more expensive. Depends on your budget and how much you're gonna use it.
I think that's a soft butterfly ray at the beginning. Biggest one I've ever seen.
What lures do u use for bluefish
Bon Timit we were using "fish finder" rigs for most of this video. Bluefish have sharp teeth so use a spoon, bucktail, or hard bait for them. You can use plastic swim baits but they will only last a fish or two before they are torn up.
That was a monster ray. I'm heading to Holden beach soon. Any tips?
I’m 9 months late lol don’t thank I can offer em now
What did you use for bait?
mostly cut bait...mullet and we would cut up the bluefish we caught.
when was this?
May, 2014
Obx= my life
Ohhhh I didn't know that you only need to cast "above the ankle water" I was always casting out when the water is in my chest deep.. and always fail catching anything ... thanks for this video. btw what baits are you guys using?
Mostly cut bait like mullet and bluefish
Crime Lords Bullseye
what length rods??
Most are 12'
How did you get the hook out of the stingrays mouth?
We usually just cut the line close to the hook. The hook will rust out.
I just use plyers twist and push down and step on its tail so it's not flapping around
i vacationed at that house in the back ground with the wooden stair case and big windows
They definitely have some nice houses through there. We had a great time.
Same here!
you stayed at that house too? lemme tell you though that was a vacation i will never forget!!
*Curious guy*: So where exactly did you catch those?
*Video poster*: In their lips, naturally. ; )
Michael Jones n
Bro that freaks me out that the pier beside them was falling in that's crazy
It was hit by a hurricane.
what size weights
4-6oz pyramid sinkers
I miss home : )
I was warning theses guys out my window
Edit: watching

wat size rod and reel do u recommend?
I like surf rods at least 10ft long with a medium heavy action for throwing heavy weights and bait. I would want a reel that could hold at least 250 yards of whatever lb test line you want to use. My penn 650ss is my favorite spinning reel. 14-17lb test line is a good starting point.
Is it vital to have full 250 yards of line?
Chancho1507 Of coarse you don't have to have that much, but the only way you can get something in that weighs 50lbs+ on 17lb line, is to use the drag on your reel. Something like a shark or a huge drum can use every bit of 200 yards of line. If you hook something big, then you will be glad that you have that much line. You also have to account for the length of your line already off of the reel by the time you walk out in the surf, cast, then walk back to your rod holder.
true...thanks for the reply
Is that Jeaneete's Pier in the back ground after Hurricane damage?
I believe it is the Frisco pier.
, 🐠 🏊 🐬 😊
Thanks for video,,I have daughter in wheelchair ,is it possible for me to take her to the area your at? Thanks,, Jim Eastridge
Theres a lot of beaches that you can drive 4x4 vehicles on with a day or yearly pass in NC.
Reeling in some chum huh?
Can I use shrimps as bait
Shrimp works good but doesn't stay on the hook as long as cut bait. I always use cut bait and have been pleased with the results.
thank you..you are awesome..
blue15047 what fish you use as cut bait
sivaneishan kunasekaran I like to use mullet
It’s a shame to see the Frisco Pier in that shape after the hurricane. Caught a lot of nice fish off of that pier about 10 years ago.

nice casting. Love the compression in the rods. wish i could do it.
Roll Tide!
I can't breave.
Are you kidding me.. first that giant flatfish, and then alot of small fish.. im 4:35 into the video now, and fucking hell man.. what the hell is going on? are you using the same bait for both fish? if so, give me a plane ticket so i can go fishing with you.. if that is the case, this water is like the lottery.. either you get small fish or the big ones.. i like this shit.
Yes, same bait and you never know. That's what makes it exciting. That's why we use the big rods, just in case.
SICK!
Who in the he** crashed into the pier? Hurricane,,,,? Great surf casting forms!
Yes, I believe it was Hurricane Earl. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any plans to rebuild it.
Roll Tide....
