I bought the Sony Bravia 7 XR55 for my bedroom last week. Had it set up today and I have to say it’s fabulous. The picture quality is unreal. The attention to detail is amazing. Would not swap it for anything else on the market. Definitive 10/10 for me. You just can’t beat Sony tv’s. The last one I had was a Bravia, purchased back in 2007 and I never had a single problem with it in 17 years. I just felt the upgrade was needed. Couldn’t be happier.
I got the tv in august in a 75” for my living room. I can control the lighting really well in my situation, however do not think the light reflection is that bay (maybe it’s just in my living room situation). This is my first “good” tv and I love everything about it!
I just bought a 65” Bravia 7 to replace an x900e that died. Bought it for a bright living room! I have a window directly adjacent to the TV. I would say reflections are about the same as the x900 and I don’t sit off axis so viewing angles weren’t a problem for us. I absolutely hate the rainbow effect from other TVs that have aggressive antiglare coatings. I prefer this finish to that even if it means brighter reflections over all. I’m happy with it so far. Works for us. Feels like a new and improved x900e.
I have a 75" 900F that I think about replacing every time I see new TVs come out... how is it brightness wise? I always feel like the 900F is on the dim side in dolby vision content.
@@wixman666 the 900e didn’t have Dolby vision so I don’t have a feel for it prior to this tv. The first day my wife used it when I wasn’t around, she texted that she had to put her sun glasses on. It’s definitely capable of getting bright. I’d agree with this review though that Sony presets are weird. You have to mess with it to get it to where you want it. I really do like this tv. It’s not all roses and sunshine though. Some of the things Sony has sucked at for years still exist here. For me it’s the inputs. They need to ditch mediatek and come up with something different. My old denon x3400 turns on too slow for the tv so it switches to tv audio like 50% of the time. I plugged the Apple TV into the receiver which largely solved that issue but now I get audio lag randomly. Like my 900e, connectivity quirks. These should be ironed out after a 7 year gap in models. I might switch out the 5.1 for a q990d if it goes on sale for Black Friday in hopes of a less frustrating audio experience.
Watching it on 85” Bravia 7. It’s amazing. Off angles are not so bad but I also do not watch it from angle, same as reflections don’t bother me- TV is not placed directly across windows, so it doesn’t reflect direct lights, and watching movies and other content afternoons and evenings/nights is superb. There’s nothing better for movies than Sony- Paired with 10 speakers Dolby Atmos system (sorry but F… any soundbar). Got it on Black Friday sale with additional discount- $2540 total with taxes included.
Finally, the Bravia 7 review! The cons you brought up about the viewing angle performance and the reflection handling were echoed by RTINGS in their review as well. I still plan on saving up for this TV since I live in a house where I have a fairly small bedroom, so I don't plan to look off center at all and I have blinds over the one window in my room.
Ive always found the viewing angle gripes to be a nothingburger. This isnt like early age LDC, where anything off center was literally unwatchable. Off angle can be viewed perfectly fine like while you are in the kitchen getting stuff ready. But when properly using the tv, you get the perfect colors.
Would only say that please demo B7 and any oled like G4 side by side before buying B7. I was also under the impression but finally got G4 after side by side.
I’ve had the 7 for a month. It’s amazing. It’s in a small room that can be light-controlled, so off angle viewing and reflections aren’t a problem for me. I’d agree that it probably isn’t great for a bright living room.
This TV pretty much sits permanently on sale at the $1,500 price point for the 65 inch. As someone who has bought many TVs in the past few years, it seems like a perfectly reasonable price for what you're getting when it's not all that much more than what Sony was charging for a full array non-Mini LED just last year. I picked it up and yes, the viewing angles are atrocious and yes, the anti reflective needs work. But as a single person that will probably die alone, it is very easy to work around that and I get a fantastic TV that didn't break the bank. Not everyone wants an OLED TV. I actually had an OLED TV before this thing and I'm shocked by how close the two are in terms of picture quality. It's a slightly larger gap when it comes to gaming but that's okay. The viewing angles and the reflective coating are the two most universal complaints lodged against this thing, so I have a feeling next year's entry level mini LED will solve those problems for those whom considering it a dealbreaker.
As a non single person I would think we will usually watch in 1-4 people top and maybe occassionally few more (but that makes me think if they are going to have a good experience hmm)
I’ve had this TV for almost 2 months and it’s been amazing…AFTER I changed most of the settings you actually mentioned. The picture was so dim when I unboxed it I legit thought I had a defective unit! Luckily, after some tweaks I’ve had no complaints, but your point about the reflection issues is something I have also noticed. The biggest gripe people reviewing it seem to have is the poor off-angle viewing. I have a rather wide living room, with a sectional and lazy boy stretching across it…no issues with viewing angles no matter how far out on the perimeter I sit, so not sure about the legitimacy of that compliant. Otherwise, great video and appreciate viewing seeing a review for the Bravia 7 on UA-cam!
@@TrippyTakaGaming had to go with the 65” because my entertainment center was 4 inches short of being able to handle 75”. I could chosen a 70” from another brand, but liked the Sony more than anything else I looked at.
@@afterfurtherreview cool im coming from a 65 inch oled, it has plenty of size but the 75 was a good deal for 1799 and tbh i saw it in person and it blows my oleds outta the water lmao.
Did you happen to hook it up to a Bravia Theatre Quad? I was a little disappointed that Digital Trend side swiped this as it is one of the biggest reasons that I want to get the 85" monster as a center channel for my HT-A9. I am relieved to know that blooming is fairly minimal. Till this day, I am still very impressed by the natural colors that my 2019 75" X900F has provided over the years. The B7 will be the main TV in my living room while this one will migrate into my oversized master.
@@nikchris69 No he shouldn't have. OLED still does burn in for certain users (hardcore gamers). Also OLED PQ is barely any better than the best Mini LED TVs now.
@@vgnvideogameninja2930 I guess you missed the comparison where even midrange oled (C4) destroys Bravia 9 in many things. Contrast, reflections, viewing angles, color gamuts, black/grey uniformity. Burn in is a non issue with Oled care settings and five year warranty
@@sumit180288 not an issue in fact I watch aaj tak news 18 all day and have to reduce brightness to 15 more than that it hurts my eye. Also know that I don’t have a window anywhere near to my tv.
I just got the 65 Inch for around $1,500 on sale. At that price it is more than worth it to me. I have a dedicated space with blackout curtains. I would agree about the reflection issues which is why it is helpful to have some ambient lighting control as you mentioned. I do not notice the off-angle issues because I sit mostly in the center and my space is small so not an issue. The picture quality though is amazing, best I have ever seen in a TV I owned. I care more about content accuracy than anything else, so Sony was my choice. I have created content and went through the exhausting process of how it looks. Things like the EQ POTF performance are a big deal to me and this TV sits at the top of the list of all good TVs.
A very fair & thorough review IMHO. I agree with Caleb, Sony should’ve implemented their wide angle filter in this model. If they had, it would be a much more attractive set for most folks.
I got it on sale at costco a couple weeks ago and i really like it, luckily im almost always sitting dead on (even though the off angle is pretty bad) and I have no lights and only a little glare some times of the day so it is just excellent and has good deep blacks and color. I was playing dead space on ps5 and with the local dimming on high in game mode the dark detail, blacks, and highlights just really impressed. And movies are obviously awesome too. Im coming from an x900h and its a huge difference imo.
Caleb, thanks for the review of the Bravia 7, I am looking at a new 85"tv and it's been between the Bravia 7 and 9 (I think). I just got the opportunity to see these two side by side. I have seen the Ratings review and wanted to see how bad the off angle viewing was. I couldn't see a big difference between the two. I will be the first to admit that my 73 year old eyes are as sharp as they used to be so, while I do appreciate your reviews, nothing beats seeing the TV's in person.
Looking to score an 85" on sale Black Friday. I have seen this TV in stores and checked the side viewing due to the Rtings review. I didn't think it was a deal breaker. This is also going in a dark basement HT room, so I guess another plus for me. Thanks for the awesome review!
Great review Caleb. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that I am the X90L owner that you were talking about because now I want this TV😅😅 😅 You reminded me of the teacher in a Christmas story with the A+++++++ 😅
I got the tv last month from Costco 65". I really like it. My last tv was a 55" x900e. The bigger size is quite amazing. i would agree with the darkness comment. I ended up bumping up the black level a bit. My only gripe is, I wish the tv would auto switch to game mode when I turn on my xbox. Sometimes I forget to switch it and only realize its not on when I need to make a fieldgoal! Oof!
Looking hard at this tv for a purchase in Nov, I was going to get the Bravia 9 I thought at the start of my journey, but after seeing this and the Rtings reviews, might save $1500CN and go down to the 7 as the only things that seem to get negatives on the 7 don't really apply to me. a) no gaming, so don't care about inputs, b) narrow living room with one couch right in middle viewing area 10 feet away so don't care about off angle, and c) only a couple windows behind the couch covered with blinds+curtains if need be so no worry about bad reflections in a super bright room. In fact the Bravia 7/8 are the two I am deciding between now instead of the 9.
Dimming zones and the fancy new dimming algorithm is on the bravo 9 and seems like a way bigger reason to go with the bravo 9 than any of the stuff you suggested.
I like your review finally on Bravia 7, can you mind share this setting for Bravia 7 which was changed ? Would like to evaluate as TV is on thw way next week also..
I have the 85inch and think it's amazing.. The viewing angel is a non issue as everyone can comfortably sit in front of the TV. I have also not had any reflection problems but I usually have lights off when I watch the TV.
Looks like the perfect TV for me. I do not care much about the negatives (except the dimness in some scenarios, but I am sure it is fixable) and I am sure the positives will impress me everytime I watch something on it. Yeah, the Bravia 9 is even better, but it is just not in my price range, sadly. This one will do it for me, if I find some money lying around somewhere 😁
the dolby vision dark/bright being too dim has been resolved on my bravia 7 with the latest update, now dolby vision dark mode works well for dark to medium lit rooms and bright mode for brightly lit rooms. bad viewing angle and screen reflections are a slight bummer. my room has white walls and a pretty big window and although the sunlight doesn't fall directly inside the room i still have to put the tv to max brightness for the reflections to not be too distracting. In brightly lit environment, I wouldn't recommend watching movies, but for general viewing (youtube, livestreams, etc) it is good enough. Still no regrets in buying this as most of my viewing happens with curtains half closed/blackout and sitting directly in front of the tv (40% brightness is enough in this case). No complaints with the picture quality. i would highly suggest getting an audio system with this. the tv speakers do not do justice to the whole experince this tv can provide.
Caleb, we bought this tv about 5 months ago and are quite satisfied with it. It replaced a 14 year old Sony that was working fine but we just wanted something newer that was a smart tv. Our living room is quite bright and the reflection we see is less than the old tv. We don’t really see it as distraction. As a side note we’re still viewing with the out of box settings. I’m basically afraid I’ll mess things up if I start messing around. I feel it’s kind of like a computer. I really enjoy your videos.
You should try different settings. Start by going from basic to vivid to professional, to movie etc. Once you find your favourite, you can adjust brightness etc. Within that mode. You won't hurt or break anything and will end up with an image you are happier with. Once you feel comfortable trying different settings, you can try finer adjustments. You have a fine tv. You should get the best out of itl
My parents had a Vizio die after a year and a half, so my mom went to Sam’s Club and bought a $1000 75” Samsung in hopes it would be better. It had a lot of problems with the smart tv programming, so I got them a Roku and it’s worked fine. They’ve tried to watch a couple of dark shows, and no matter what you do with the picture settings, they just weren’t viewable. I’ve always heard good things about Sony TVs so I recommend the Bravia 7. The off angle viewing isn’t as bad as the RTINGS review made it seem and other than their ceiling fan light(on a downrod) nothing really reflects off the screen. I did go through and change a bunch of picture settings to make it brighter and they couldn’t be happier so far.
I'm looking to upgrade my 2017 LG B7 65" to something more recent (I bought the 2023 LG C3 OLED for the bedroom and the picture difference is remarkable), and I think I've found my new TV. I live alone so don't have to worry about off angle viewing, I only watch TV at night, and being from the UK I don't have to worry about sun anyway, so I guess I fit the niche!
Your reviews are one of the reasons i got the A95l 77inch alway great reviewer and man was you right the A95l is next level just skip these and treat yourself to the best tv out there
Thanks Caleb, for the Bravia 7 review, I’ve been waiting impatiently. As you’ve mentioned the Dolby Vision Dark Mode is highly inconsistent depending on the content, and in my personal experience, Sony model and SoC. I have an 65 inch X90L, which has an older Mediatek SoC and the TV looks amazing in Dolby Vision and very clean overall. However, I’ve noticed a lot of those issues you pointed out on the Bravia 7 (banding, noise and dimmer Dolby Vision) on my friend’s Bravia 8, even though it is an OLED with a new SoC. I was thinking of upgrading to the Bravia 7 since I prefer Sony TVs but a Samsung S90D makes more sense at that price range. TVs should come with perfectly calibrated SDR and HDR mode from factory and if we want other modes calibrated, then do a professional or auto-calibration.
Sorry but comparing Bravia 7 with x90l is a bit unfair. I bought an x90l 75 inch last year and paid 2000 Canadian dollars (plus taxes). This year the 65 inch Bravia 7 costs 2300 and the 75 inch Bravia 7 is 3000. So Bravia 7 is more comparable with x93l or x95l. I have no regrets buying my x90l. Great tv, excellent value for the price.
@@AramGevorgyan it's fair because the bravia 7 is the x90l replacement by Sony's own omission and what's advertised by sellers and has the closes in features to the x90l
I’m currently looking for an 85 inch tv. I’m finding the X90 for about $1,799 USD. But I can’t seem to find a 7 at 85 inches. But I found a 75 inch for $1,799. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the 7 that much better than the X90 to warrant the 75 over the 85? It’s going to replace a 65 inch LG from 2015.
@dc345601 I can't say anything about the Bravia 7, but I can say that I really enjoy my x90l 75 inch. If you have the space for an 85 inch then I'd say go for a bigger screen. Every year there's gonna be something new, something better but for most of the time you won't notice the difference between the qualities. It is only when you put them side by side. Once you purchase something you will enjoy the picture quality for sure. But go to your nearest store and compare. I would pick a bigger screen.
The same reason you give to this TV performance in the average USA living room, is the same reason I DON'T recommend OLED TVs, the same way I didn't recommend plasma TVs in the past. As a TV engineer we had a lot of issues with CRTs and their burn in problem. We tested plasma and OLEDs and saw the same problem. That's why you only see LCD monitors on TV stations. We may use OLEDs for color grading, but that's all. Besides that, I like your videos, and I'm subscribed.
I think the Bravia 7 off angle viewing is definitely a bit overblown after seeing it in BestBuy. The reflections also seemed over blown, but difficult to tell for sure. BestBuy seems like a terrible place to display a poor panel because the lights are all over the place. But they had the X90L above the Bravia 7 on display, and I was trying my best to line up reflections to really see the difference between the 2, and there was just no meaningful difference between the 2 and I've never heard anyone make as big a deal about that for the X90L
Yeah im in the same boat lol, i was looking at it just earlier today, best buy has the 65 inch for 1400 which seems like a great deal to me. Its crazy because the way he reviewed the x90l he was blown away by it but this tv he seems pretty mellow about it? When he even said that this tv is an improvement on the x90l in every way. Pretty sure yes the angles could be an issue, as well as reflections, but, im assuming bc the price point at this tv coming out was 2300$, it was judged much more harshly, and rightly so
Based on price and tier, I'd say the Bravia 7 is more of a replacement for the X93L than the X90L. Therefore, I don't think comparing the Bravia 7 to the X90L is a fair comparison. If you want something in between the X90L and the Bravia 9, then the Bravia 7 would definitely fill THAT void. Good luck, guys!
@@bungalowtomcat1 I'm sure it is. My point is that the Bravia 7 is more a replacement for the X93L than for the X90L, at least from a price and tier perspective.
@@MrIagainsti120 I'd say it's closer to the X93L in all Specs for the 65inch and 55 inch I'd say the 75 and 85inch is closer to the x95l Only cos I had the x93l and x95l I now have the B7 and B9 and with there Firmware update they function even better when first got And in all content I do think tho that the B7 and B9 in 75inch Function Very the same and Look So alike in all content

If you move both Motion Bars all the way up/along and Local Dimming to HIGH Then you will get the Smoothest possible You can use BLACK FRAME INSERTION as well but this will lower your Overall Brightness up to 30% And it will also make your MOTION Even smoother
This TV is awesome, viewing angles aren't that bad, maybe my unit has a different pannel. This tv can be so bright that reflections are not an issue unless is a dark scene. I disable all eco mode options if you want more brightnes and get control over it. Do not go with netflix or any source calibrated, just do your own, dolby vision vivid is insanely awesome. Explosioins, car headligts in night scenes and metal shiny objects look so realistic in this tv, I love it. OLED can provide better blacks, but this tv provides awesome brights and shines which is more exiting.
I have the 75" and honestly the viewing angles are fine, even on the extreme. Maybe I am just not sensitive to it. That said, the reflective screen is really bad. I had to move some lamps because the TV is basically a black mirror in dark scenes. After doing that, very happy with it, but everyone should examine their lighting carefully.
Have the 55" and is perfect for my den/office with single seat viewing. Marantz into ARC(HDMI 3), ps5 to hdmi 4. Off axis and reflections are a non issue for me. This tv wows me when I turn it on. :)
Hi Caleb, can you make a quick video about the settings for this TV? Which settings should we tweak for it to look great? Bought the 85, waiting for it to arrive, super excited for this one!
Thanks for review. Couple of comments: 1) Can we please have a Bravia 8 review before Black Friday? 🙏 2) Isn’t the complaint of Sony only having two HDMI 2.1 ports unfair when connecting one of those ports to a sound bar or receiver. Don’t most of them have 2.1 pass through? I think the Sony Quad does, but their STR- AN 1000 definitely does. 😉
Thank you Caleb! I think that what you said on this video about picture settings finally explains why it looks so unbelievably dim at my local Best Buy. I couldn't figure out why the X90L right next to it looked so much better. The Bravia 7 there looks really washed out. I was also worried about reflections, and now I'm wondering what in the world I'll get if I don't get this one. Bummer.
I’m actually considering the Hisense U7N just because of its excellent reflection quality. Such a bummer cause there is a really good deal on a B7 open box at my local BB. 55” for $880. But it is for my living room and there is sliding doors perpendicular and we don’t close the curtains during the day
I do watch movies at night with little light behind the TV, during the day it is mostly news and other content for which I wouldn't even care having vivid mode on, with the house walls and the fireplace around the TV, it is hard to look at it from off angles so I do not care about that... So it feels like it would be a perfect TV for me if I did not have an x95l with which I am very happy :)
Hi Caleb, thanks for this video. I wanted to love and buy this tv ,but when I saw it live in a store I was shocked to see the semi glossy coating severely undermining its performance. @ in all honesty yes. I was afraid I would have missed Dolby vision, but now I can tell it’s a non issue. HDR10 and HCLG work fantastic. The combination of colours, brightness, motion and depth is amazing. As an amateur photographer I felt the impact of close up takes and the change of the depth of field really unprecedented in a to.
I really wanted to like this TV but returned it. Viewing angle was washing out colors by day and showing blooming and edge light by night. Reflections are mirror-like. I had it side by side with an OLED I purchased after, and ended up keeping the OLED, very happy that I could compare. Even though I wanted miniLED because I was worried about OLED burn in, it feels worth it.
Good luck. After 5 Years my LG B7 was greenish in the middle of the picture due to red OLED degeneration. In addition to that there was Burn In. About 1500 € repair costs. Not worth it. Great picture, but limited life span.

Hi Caleb, Thank you for your outstanding work. Last June I bought a 75inch Sony Bravia7 for a dedicated room. My experience is totally aligned with your comments. Off center viewing and reflection are clearly weak points. I knew what I was getting and I don't mind in the context of a room dedicated to tv viewing (and hifi) where room lighting is easily controlled. The ability of Sony to treat SDR content on large screen demanding upscaling is the real reason why one wants to buy this TV.
I have Bravia 3 which I plan to return- I also have the irritation on Dolby being dark, it seems like HDR looks better and you can adjust the settings that way and looks much better to my amateur eyes. Wondering whether I should give Hisense U8 a go it looks great in the store
I like them telling you what the update actually is fixing 👍 the x95L had much better viewing angles and reflection handling and was similarly priced in Europe
In my region the X95L is priced like the Bravia 9 and the X90L is priced as the Bravia 7. So in my case it makes sense but if they were a similar price the X95L is still going to be the better TV. Price aside, the X95L was the flagship and the Bravia 9 is the next flagship, and last year’s flagship is usually still a bit better than current year’s mid range.
If you lower The BLACK Bars from 0 which is in the middle, to - 10 or more and up the GAMMA a Lot on the Bravia 7 you get rid of the Blooming all together... Hi Caleb, thanks for this video. I have the B7 right now and I think it’s an absolutely amazing looking tv. Coming from a 6yr old tv, the one thing that does bother me though is the motion. It has more stutter/judder than my last tv and it’s been very hard to get use to watching low framerate content, even on a device that has match framerate. I’ve been looking at maybe downgrading to an x95k as I’ve heard the motion on that particular tv is very good. Since you reviewed that tv I was wondering if you would say it has comparable motion to the B7 or if it was better from your memory. Thanks!
Hey there! Caleb here! I’d be interested to look at some examples of what you’re seeing. If you can, would you provide some content examples and time codes? I’ll have a look. I suspect the issue may not be processing, rather pixel response time. It’s also possible that there is a setting that can be adjusted that will smooth this out without introducing soap opera effect. To that end, can you tell me what picture mode you are using and any other relevant settings?
@@digitaltrends Thanks for responding to my question. I’m not really sure how to upload footage of my issue to you and I’m not sure I have equipment that would probably show it well. All I can say is that it isn’t specific to certain scenes but rather, I see it in all content and it seems to be how the tv handles motion in general. The way each frame is held and released produces a noticeable stutter to me; like each frame feels very “dry” and stuttery. It’s most noticeable when characters are moving around the screen or in front of bright lights or objects. Quick action looks good to me in almost all scenes, it’s just slower panning shots or slow character movements where I notice the stutter to the motion. What I find interesting is that I tried the Qn90d recently at home and I found the motion to be far smoother. Each frame transition felt “wet” and had a smoothness to it that the Bravia 7 lacks. There was a bit of panning stutter that I noticed, but that’s about the only time it was an issue. It’s hard to describe but that’s the best way I know how to put it to words. I would have kept the Samsung but it gave me headaches, especially when gaming on it (I’m guessing due to its low flicker frequency?). I’ve tried every combination of motion settings I can think of or that I’ve seen people recommend, but it either doesn’t help enough or it adds too much SOE for my tastes. I’ve tried cinema mode, professional mode, standard mode, but how each frame is held and released seems to produce the same issue no matter what setting I’m in. That’s why I asked if you noticed any difference in smoothness on the X95k in comparison with all motion settings off.
I feel the same exact way and have been searching for a reviewer that can lead me to the right TV. I bought and returned the Sony X93L because of it. I’m pretty sure it comes down to pixel response time. No setting can fix it except maxing out terrible motion interpolation and SOE. The Bravia 7 has a slower response time so I was hoping it would solve my issue, but it sounds like you are seeing exactly what I have been seeing on the X93L and the two OLED TVs I tried (G4, S95C). The slowest pixel response time TVs I can find that aren’t bottom of the barrel in every other way are the Samsung Q60D and the LG QNED 90T. No reviewers seem to care about this issue but it is plaguing me. Help!
@@digitaltrends I see exactly what this other gentleman sees. I think you are right that it is pixel response time, but there are no high end TV’s left that have a slow enough response time to be pleasing to the eye. On my LG G4, BFI helped a little with the persistence blur but I could still see the stutter and there were horrible artifacts even with the lowest motion interpolation on at the same time. I can’t stand SOE, but even with moderate motion interpolation I can still see the stutter in people’s faces as they move or in panning shots or moving shots with high contrast such as rooftops and skylines. A great example of the stutter is in Fantastic Beasts in the scene towards the beginning when the lady warps Newt to the magic building and they walk across the street to the building. It pans up onto the building and it is a stuttering mess and then they cross the street to walk in and all the people walking by are a stuttering mess. Then the cgi shot of the huge clock when they walk in you can see the two bells stuttering back and forth as the camera pulls away. For the stuttering in the faces I would say a good example wood be any tracking shot of the main character as he is walking outside during daylight in Tokyo Vice. Season 2. Because of the way the show is shot with high contrast you can see that his face just kind of blurs around when his head is moving up and down from walking and talking. Me reviewers seem to see these kinds of things or just seem to be ok with motion interpolation. Please help! I was leaning towards the Bravia 7 but if this other guy is seeing what I am seeing it won’t resolve my issue. Maybe the LG QNED90T with its 13ms response time would be better than the 11ms response time of the Bravia 7? My last tv was a 2016 Samsung KS8000 with a response time of 18ms and it looked great to me. Can’t find a nice tv with that kind of response time today. Or can I? Please help! Thanks!
@@luigierik Thanks for chiming in. I agree, motion on newer TVs is pretty bad and yet most reviewers just don’t seem to call it out. Probably because the whole industry is headed that way sadly. I’d recommend you maybe try out the QN90D. I couldn’t keep it because I got headaches from the low flicker frequency (I think), but the motion felt to me much better than it did on any of the Sony’s I’ve tried. The picture quality isn’t as good when it comes to upscaling and the tonemapping isn’t as precise, but it’s a good tv. You’ll still notice panning stutter, but overall I found the motion to be more pleasing to the eye. I’m actually getting my hands on an X95K this next week and I can let you know my impressions of it if you want. I’ve heard the motion is quite good on that particular tv, but I’ll be curious to see. I do think that pixel response time is at least in part to blame but I think it also has something to do with how the tv handles motion, which every manufacturer will do differently. I do know that OLEDs are certainly the worst when it comes to pixel response stutter, so I don’t think you’ll be happy with any you get.
Several times you mentioned specifically that LG isn’t far behind this tv. Is there a specific LG mini led model to which you are referring and have reviewed? Thanks and always enjoy your content! Mike
Yeah, my X90L after some tweaking is performing great! I think a lot of these reviewers didn't play with it enough to realize what value and potential it has!
@@roadrunner9843I’ve only compared side by side in store, but not at home in a realistic environment, but they seem pretty similar to me in terms of viewing angle and reflection handling. Similar to the point that I will probably buy the X90L come sale time.
Caleb, I just watched the video and noticed that you said the Bravia 7 brightness levels seemed a lot darker than usual. I just picked up a Bravia 9 a few weeks ago and noticed something similar. The TV I’m switching from is an X95K and I found that it was a lot brighter in both SDR and HDR when using the same picture preset on both TV’s and the exact same settings across the board. I’m wondering have Sony toned down the brightness or changed something in the B7 and B9 this year, and can and will they fix it via an update? Did you notice the lower brightness when you reviewed the Bravia 9 a few weeks ago? Or maybe you didn’t notice it at the time, but do now after also reviewing the Bravia 7?
@ No, I returned the Bravia 9 and kept my X95K which performs perfectly fine. There was too many issues with the Bravia 9, including the lower brightness, so getting rid of my X95K just wasn’t worth it. I’ll wait and see what the next version of the Bravia 9 looks like when Sony announces their 2025 TV’s in the new year. Maybe then they’ll have worked out some of the issues and I can actually upgrade.
I think you're going too light on Sony. It's their brand, so the MT chipset and the calibration settings are on them. Bottom line is that there are better options in the price range.
After some tweaking my 85"X90L is performing great though. I'm not understanding the hate by many reviewers but maybe they didn't play with it enough. Best value I've ever owned imho
Bought this TV the day it was released in my country. Mad expensive but every penny worth the price. Caleb I watched this review on the Bravia 7. I am not fond of the fact sony didn't provide cable management at the back but that's OK considering this us a stunning tv. The audio is amazing. Sounds system is pending and don't have the budget for the sony bravia theatre quad so would probably opt for sonos.
It is ok, not bright enough for a decent lighted living room. Im returning mine and getting a Mini LED. If you really want an OLED save up for the A95L or give Samsung S90D a chance. QD OLED is the way to go now
An interesting review. Bad off angle viewing would not work for me. It does seem like it reflects a lot of light. Also it seems like you have to do a lot of adjusting to make this TV not so dim! The picture looks nice though. (I always use DolbyVision Bright on both my Sony TVs.) Good job.
Warranty and longevity as a single and only parent to 2 kids in college matters more to me than how wonderful the picture is. Especially when it comes to "The Planet" A tv that has a long warranty and lasts long as well as how affordable it is to be repaired matter to "The Planet" more than cheap materials used to make it.
You're in fantasy land. No manufacturer exists than can create a Television that can last basically forever. The era of CRTs is over and I think you know that by now. Realistically speaking, try and get the best TV you can buy from a reputable brand like Sony or LG (samsung has been known for poor quality control) and then add the 2 or 5 year warranty and then you don't have to worry about anything within those 5 years which would be the year 2029.
Don't get from these brands ( insignia, sansui, Hisense, TCL ). Coming from the reddit TV community, it's important to do your OWN research before you buy anything, especially with consumerism in America ( assuming you're from America) where most reviews don't quite reflect the Long term experience of a certain product like they do in almost all reviews. From my own personal experience between have owned a TV from each of the big three manufacturers, Sony, LG, Samsung. Sony TVs are good televisions but Sony is very slow on software updates and sometimes some features of the TV are added in months later despite it being advertised on the marketing on the Box or on the Ads in the store. I bought an LG C1 in 2020 and after 4 years I can say I've had 0 issues as I am a heavy TV user because I also use it as a monitor for my PC while also using it as a TV. As far as lasting goes, nobody told me about OLED burnin so that's the only negative but a good alternative is getting a QLED from LG as is just as good of an experience. Samsung on the other hand does have quality control issues for sure. I bought a samsung TV back in 2018 and sure it was a budget $670 one but the screen started to get a lot of issues in just 3 years of owning it. The bezel around the screen was coming off and the backlight showed it starting to show cracks so you'd get a little streaks of light which is internal damage. My parents used this TV and their usage is far lower than my usage with the LG and it did not last at all. They had to switch to a smaller 23 inch 720p tv we had in the garage meanwhile. We couldn't get it fixed because we did not get a extended warranty from the store which is why it's important to do so. Hope that helps
Thanks for the review! I'm still on the fence about going OLED vs Mini-LED. Either way it'll be light years improvement form my old 37" Toshiba. Looked at mostly Sony, LG, Samsung - with the Bravia 8 being very tops of what I want to spend. However, I have a smaller, brighter, living room (west and south exposure) with only so many places to put a TV. Currently, my north wall is the best "location" based on living room setup (about 9-10ft away with viewing angles from straight on to maybe 30 degrees on either side), and that wall gets most sun exposure in winter (sun lower in the sky to the south). I can somewhat control that, but wouldn't want to keep shades closed during day as it keeps the place brighter. This has me leaning away from OLED. I've seen the B7 and it looks impressive but now concerned with viewing angles and glare. Kind of stumped really. With the sales going on, today may be the day. Could probably go 55 or 65 (have template up on the wall to gauge that). Honestly I stream YT TV/ Netflix, hockey, football, and movies. No gaming. So is the B7 the best choice in Mini-LED for my viewing case/price point or is there a better choice here? Really love the look of the B8/C4 OLED's - if only I had a darker room :). Just concerned with burn in if I leave an OLED streaming YT TV mostly and the sun exposure with shades up.
I dont really have good advice for you because now im researching. But from what ive read i will probably go x90l or bravia 7. I kinda dont want to babysit OLED and checking everytime for burn in. And also OLED TVs "die" with time they get dimmer and dimmer. Also OLED TVs cannot be directly exposed to sunlight even if they are turned off because sun rays are damaging it by warming the pixels. So i think MINI-LED is the way to go or just LED Full array like x90l. I saw a lot of reviews of best MINI-LEDs and they say Hisense U8N and TCL QM8 are the best bang for your buck. But I would go Sony since they have better upscaling, processing which should make streaming low quality content like youtube or cable tv or even netflix (if you dont have premium sub for 4k) appear way better. And for me personally sony seems a better known brand which could end up being more reliable in a long term. I'm still debating to go 85" x90l or 75" B7 since price is the same here 2100 euro. Too bad in EU we dont have black fridays. Just scam fridays.
@@rainblue8005 Yep, you sound like you're in the same boat. Ha, yes on the BF sales - but they've been at the same prices for month now. Still going a day after Cyber Monday too. Haven't chosen yet - watching the lighting a bit closer in the room to see how much I'm really getting. I think viewing angle of the B7 will be fine - just hesitant about the reflections review. Looked again at both B7 and the SAM QN90D yesterday. Liked them both in store, liked the overall PQ on the B7 better. I may just have to buy and return the B7, if it proves to reflect to much. I wasn't loving the 65" size, but realized in my room size, I would only have 1 place to put it. So I may go 55" - still plenty based on the templates I've mounted. Good luck!

Man I still have my x900e going strong. Hope mine doesn’t go out
I have a 75" 900F that I think about replacing every time I see new TVs come out... how is it brightness wise? I always feel like the 900F is on the dim side in dolby vision content.
Hi how long does it take to turn on when you start it after hours?
I might switch out the 5.1 for a q990d if it goes on sale for Black Friday in hopes of a less frustrating audio experience.
i still have x900c, watch everyday still no issue even though I wish it died so to upgrade.

@@ps4games164 why TF are you reading, my reply is not for you. From where & why TF are you coming in this thread
I’ve had the 7 for a month. It’s amazing. It’s in a small room that can be light-controlled, so off angle viewing and reflections aren’t a problem for me. I’d agree that it probably isn’t great for a bright living room.
The firmware update fixed Brightness and Gamma i noticed and now space scenes look even better as does motion a bit too ❤
This TV pretty much sits permanently on sale at the $1,500 price point for the 65 inch.
Is it good for gaming on?

Hi how long does it take to turn on when you start it after hours?
I currently have an x900h this helps a lot thanks!
Please do a versus of Bravia 7 and U8N
My Sony Bravia 7 Mini-LED is outstanding I love it

Great job Caleb !!! Love you channel. I’m considering the Bravia 7. I’m wondering if you provide your settings on your display reviews ?
Looking to score an 85" on sale Black Friday. I have seen this TV in stores and checked the side viewing due to the Rtings review. I didn't think it was a deal breaker. This is also going in a dark basement HT room, so I guess another plus for me. Thanks for the awesome review!
Get it now- the price is the lowest for this year, $2498 plus tax. Anything lower will not be possible this year.

Im glad i got the 93xl with wide viewing angle and anti glare.
Thanks Mike! I’m interested in hearing more about the Tv in a bright room not being a problem!
Thank you for taking the time to make such thorough and honest video about the Bravia 7. You are simply fantastic at what you do!!
I'm looking to upgrade my 2017 LG B7 65" to something more recent (I bought the 2023 LG C3 OLED for the bedroom and the picture difference is remarkable), and I think I've found my new TV.
Your Amazon Prime brightness recommendation was fantastic. Thank you 🙏🏻

@Anti-Gravity_Club In Canada or in the USA? Because I was talking about CAD :)
I got the 75 inch back in August love it
The same reason you give to this TV performance in the average USA living room, is the same reason I DON'T recommend OLED TVs, the same way I didn't recommend plasma TVs in the past.

Yep. OLED needs to be the cheapest option to make sense to me. It's literally degrading every second it's on.
Thank you for the helpful review
Pretty sure yes the angles could be an issue, as well as reflections, but, im assuming bc the price point at this tv coming out was 2300$, it was judged much more harshly, and rightly so
Thank you for this review. I’ve been looking for a tv for about 4 months lol. This will work perfectly in my Media room.
Bravia 7 motion is better than X90L I tested them side by side

Local Dimming Set to HIGH will greatly improve your , MOTION . If you move both Motion Bars all the way up/along and Local Dimming to HIGH Then you will get the Smoothest possible
You can use BLACK FRAME INSERTION as well but this will lower your Overall Brightness up to 30% And it will also make your MOTION Even smoother
Now compare it and review the Panasonic W95A mini led please

In my book all tvs needs to have a swivel foot.

Just broke my 75in x90k and I'm going to buy this. Looks like a great tv

Couple of comments:
1) Can we please have a Bravia 8 review before Black Friday? 🙏
2) Isn’t the complaint of Sony only having two HDMI 2.1 ports unfair when connecting one of those ports to a sound bar or receiver.
Bummer.
Yes same. I am wondering should I get a QN90D over this.
This is the quality TV in my price range 🤙
Hi Caleb, thanks for this video. I wanted to love and buy this tv ,but when I saw it live in a store I was shocked to see the semi glossy coating severely undermining its performance. For me the Samsung QN90 D was an instant no brainier. BTW I’m still waiting for for a in-depth analysis of the Samsung 😅. Cheers
So you recommend the qn90d over the B7? In the buying stage between these 2
@ in all honesty yes.
21:00. 21:23 Is that considered off angle? Looks fine.
I really wanted to like this TV but returned it. Viewing angle was washing out colors by day and showing blooming and edge light by night. Reflections are mirror-like. I had it side by side with an OLED I purchased after, and ended up keeping the OLED, very happy that I could compare. Even though I wanted miniLED because I was worried about OLED burn in, it feels worth it.
which oled did you buy ?
Good luck. After 5 Years my LG B7 was greenish in the middle of the picture due to red OLED degeneration. In addition to that there was Burn In. About 1500 € repair costs. Not worth it. Great picture, but limited life span.
@@HoratiusXXL I get it, that is why I wanted miniLED. However, the S90D convinced me so well... It was handling perfectly all the cons of the Bravia 7 and I did not want to pay for the 9. Hi Caleb,
Thank you for your outstanding work.

Spot on with the cons, the glare/reflectivity make the new Bravia’s a no go. Can’t believe Sony doesn’t prioritize anti glare.

Did u ever figure this out?
Most reviewers said the X90L was the best bang for the buck in Sony's lineup. That's probably why Sony is still selling it.

Great video can you be honest about Panasonic w 95a versus Sony Bravia 7 what's your recommendation honest because I wanted to buy it ?
Good luck!
