Nice to see you back. “What you might have done differently ???” This is perfection! Good luck with the new house, arrival, and forest. Thanks, keep growing
Along with your new home and arrival, congrats on getting your dawn redwood forest started, a milestone after around 5 years. Loved seeing the root structure at the 4 minute mark.
I was anxious to see the root work, but I understand. It’s amazing I had not found your channel earlier. Your forest is spectacular. I’m hoping to do a DR pruning video soon. I want to develop the branches slowly. It was only assembled this spring with 5 yr old trees I grew from seed. I just subscribed. Cheers.
Thanks for watching Steve! With the new shed, I’ve got a good angle for rootwork footage now, so I’ll try to include that going forward. Amur maple forest video soon that shows it! Best of luck with your new forest. Awesome that you raised them from seed / satisfying I bet… Thanks for subscribing.
Hey do you still bring your coastal redwoods indoors for the winter and if so, what termperature does it drop to before you decide to bring them indoors?
Hey there! I don’t ever let them get below freezing - but our temps during the day have been in the high thirties and low forties still so I bring it out during the day. Planning to bring in under the lights this weekend which is later than usual. Still alive and kicking!
Great composition of the trees. Absolute fantastic how the trees react to your major cuts. In which climate are the trees growing? Perhaps it is a bit colder here in germany ;-).
Thanks for watching Michael - I'm in USDA Zone 6a here, so we get well below freezing temperatures in winter. These trees will handle down to zone 4 and can handle a fair amount of cold. I leave them outside in winter time! When doing work like this in the spring on both roots and pruning, I protect the trees from any late freezes, otherwise they would not respond so well.
Hi there, I tend to use Bonsai jack conifer mix (pumice/pine bark/baked clay/charcoal) at around 75% plus a 25% of pure pine bark - I find they like the extra moisture it provides.

Really awesome project man, I can't wait to see this develop!
The final composition is looking great. Nice update brother!
Nice to have you back 😁. Love the forest, the effort you've put it has shown with the arrangement and the outcome. Well done 👍🏻
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Keep up the great work and congrats on the new addition and new home! Looking forward to the garden/workshop tour 🏡
Workshop video almost done with editing! Thanks for watching!

Thanks much Chad! The roots were very robust. Long time coming.

That composition looks great. It’s great to see another one of your videos! Congratulations on all of your achievements this past year.
Appreciate it Gerrett. Hope you are well and still growing!
You have done good my friend.

@@GreatLakesBonsai Cool, I also have one, do they still grow when you have them indoors?
Nice Job!
Thank you sir!
I like the arrangement. I would've liked to see the process.
Showed the process on my new Amur maple
Forest video :) thanks for watching!

I am hoping to start a redwood forest one day
Plant a few seedlings to get it started!
What soil do you use for them?

Ive started to like forests with less trees myself. With a lot of trees it looks cluttered to me.
I like the 4-6 tree ones as well, especially in smaller pots! Hopefully with routine pruning I can maintain separation and gaps in this one.
