Dear Sir, As per the information in Wikipedia, apart from Indrajit who is the eldest, 2 other sons of Ravana who seem to be holding some significance are Atikeya/Atikaya and Akshaya Kumara. Atikaya is the second-most powerful warrior next to Indrajith and was blessed with the secrets of archery and divine weapons by Lord Shiva himself. Brahma too for his part granted Atikeya 3 boons, i.e., the Brahmastra which could annihilate anyone, an armour which cannot be pierced through by any arrows or missiles except for the Brahmastra and the absence of thirst and lust. He was hence invincible and finally killed by Lakshmana through treachery in the Ramayanam War. Atikeya sounds more or less like Kartikeya/Kartikaya = Murugan who is the son-in-law of Ravanan. I had mentioned about this in my previous writeup. Murugan is the God of War and he is the Lord of Serpents as per Kukke Subrahmanyam Temple where Vasuki, the King of Nagas and his elder brother Adi Seshan are found together with Murugan in the Sanctum Sanctorum. No wonder Atikaya was killed by Lakshmana who is an incarnation of Adi Sesha. Who then is Akshaya Kumara? He is the ‘Grand’ son of Ravana. That is Murugan’s son, Ayyappan. In the movie ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, Vijay Sethupathi who is a great devotee of Murugan will utter the dialogue, “Murugan has gone to meet Ayyappan on his peacock.” Why of all Gods Murugan should go to meet Ayyappan? Like Murugan who has 6 houses (padai veedu), the only other God who has 6 houses is Ayyappan. Also he is an expert in martial arts and warfare. The Story of Akshaya Kumara: As per their Ramayana, Akshaya Kumara also known as Mahabali Akshya was the youngest son of Ravana. When Hanuman started destroying Ashoka Vatika after a conversation with Sita, Ravana ordered Akshay to kill this infiltrator. A warrior of just sixteen, but who was trained in martial arts and learnt in all forms of war and strategy took the gaze of his father as his command and left for battle in his chariot. He fought with Hanuman, aiming various weapons at him, but because he was young Hanuman refuses to fight at first. Though highly impressed by the young prince's valour and skills, Hanuman had no choice but to kill him in the end. Similarity with Makaradwajan: This story of a 16 year old boy confronting Hanuman is very similar to the story of Makaradwajan, a young boy, who fought with Hanuman to prevent him from entering the palace of Ahiravana. Both Akshay and Makaradwjan were exemplary warriors and loyal to their masters - Ravana and Ahiravana. contd
The Story of Makaradhwaja as per the SE Asian Version of Ramayana: As per the Thai, Cambodian and other Southeast Asian versions of Ramayana, Suvannamacha meaning "golden fish" is a daughter of Ravana and she is a mermaid princess who would do anything for her father. When Hanuman learns and reports that Sita is being held captive on the island of Lanka, Rama, orders him to build a bridge. Hanuman collects his band of Vanaras and they begin throwing huge boulders into the sea to make a foundation for the bridge. To their shock and surprise, the very next day these rocks go missing. Hanuman enters the sea and finds a large number of mermaids underwater. Every time a new rock is tossed in, these mermaids take the rocks and carry them away. Hanuman looks for their leader. He spots a lovely mermaid supervising the others. He then swims towards her and informs the reason why they are building the bridge & requests her not to interfere. She agrees and both of them develop a liking for each other. When she confesses her love for him, Hanuman however informs her that he is a celibate and cannot marry her. They part as lovers, but he blesses her a kid through his divine rays and soon she gave birth to their son, Macchanu. Indian Version: As per the Indian version of Ramayana, a huge fish swallows the sweat of Hanuman when he is trying to cross the ocean and becomes pregnant. It gets caught by Ahiravana’s men and when they cut it, they find a baby boy inside who is named as Makaradhdwaja and is brought up by Ahiravana. So Macchanu is Makaradhwaja and Suvannamaccha character is missing. Makaradwaja becomes the gatekeeper of Ahiravana’s palace. Hanuman defeats him in a duel after knowing that he is his very own son and then ties him up to enter Ahiravana’s fortress. He then kills Ahiravana and rescues Rama & Lakshamana. Ram being impressed by Makardhwaja declares him the King of Patala Loka. Hanuman bids goodbye to his son with a heavy heart. contd
Makaradwajan is Ayyappan: I had previously written about how Hanuman is Murugan and how Suvannamacha is linked to Meenakshi, the fish eyed Goddess. Makaradhwaja then should be the son of Murugan and the grandson of Ravana. He is infact Ayyappan and let’s see how: 1) Makaradwaja is shown as a young boy when he confronts his father Hanuman as the gatekeeper of Ahiravana’s palace as per the epic Ramayana. Ayyappan too is shown to be a young boy. At the age of twelve, he slew the demoness Mahishi and then disappeared having given instructions to his father to build a temple in his name on top of the Sabari hill. 2) Makaradwjan is a great warrior who inspite of being young, challenged the mighty Hanuman for a duel. Ayyappan too is a war god. There are legends of him learning Kalari- a martial art from Cheerappanchira Panikkar. 3) Suvannamacha meaning ‘Golden Fish’, a mermaid princess and daughter of Ravana is the mother of Makaradwaja and Hanuman is his father as per the SE Asian versions of Ramayana. Ayyappan is the son of Mohini and Shiva. Hanuman is the 11th incarnation of Shiva. So Hanuman being a rudra avatar represents Shiva here. Mohini is the only female avatar of Vishnu. Here Vishnu is Ravanan. So Mohini is his only daughter. She represents Meenakshi and the proofs are : • The 1998 Malayalam movie ‘Meenakshi Kalyanam’ where actress Mohini plays the role of Meenakshi. • Meenakshi Seshadri as Mohini in the film ‘Nache Nagin Gali Gali’. • The movie ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ where Nayanthara is the heroine. Her name in the movie is Komalavalli. Her birth name is Diana Mariam Kurien. Diana means “divine.” In Aramaic, Mary is called Maryam. The Greek translation of the Old Testament calls her Mariam, whereas with New Testament Greek, she is Maria. So Diana Mariam means Divine Mary = Meenakshi. So Yaaradi Nee Mohini = Meenakshi= daughter of Ravana and wife of Murugan. • In the Chenna Kesava Temple at Belur, Karnataka there are a number of statues of Mohini. 4) Makaradwaja is either a merman who is Half-human and Half-fish according to some scriptures or a Half-monkey and Half-fish according to a few others. His first part of the name ‘Makara’ is the name of a zodiac known as Capricorn in English. Hence he can be associated with this zodiac that has the symbol of a sea goat. That is the front portion is that of a goat and the hind part is that of a fish. Goat represents Murugan as Agnidevan and the hind part represents Makaradwajan whose lower half resembles a fish. Ayyappan too is associated with Makaram/Capricorn zodiac when his most significant festival Makaravilakku is observed on Makara Sankranti at the shrine of Sabarimala. Makara Sankaranthi is the day when the sun enters the Capricorn zodiac. On this day in the evening when the Dakshinayana Punyakalam ends and Uttarayana Punyakalam starts is the Makaravilakku festival that is the lighting of a bright "vilakku" (lamp) three times atop Ponnambalamedu located near the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple. During the deeparadhana, Lord Ayyappa gives darshan fully attired in the Thrivaabharanam - gold ornaments - which is specially brought from the Pandalam Palace in a procession. Before the aarti, Makara Jyothi a celestial star appears on the sky and is believed that the deity Ayyappan asserts himself as Makara Jyothi to bless his devotees. (ஆரியங்காவு, அச்சன் கோவில், குளத்துப்புழா, எருமேலி, பந்தளம் மற்றும் சபரிமலை) • Both Murugan and Ayyappan are considered Rudra avatars. Murugan is the son of Shiva where Shiva is Ravana. Ayyappan too is the son of Shiva where Shiva= Murugan. Hence they are also considered as brothers. • Both Murugan and Ayyappan are associated with the festival of lights. On Kartikai Pournami, Karthigai Deepam festival is celebrated in honour of Murugan. In the town of Thiruvannamalai, the festival is marked by the lighting of a massive earthen lamp around 6 PM at the top of the 2668 feet high holy mountain of the town which is regarded to be a representation of a Shiva Linga. This is similar to the Makaravillaku festival celebrated in the Sabarimala for Ayyappan in the evening of Makara Sankranthi when a huge lamp is lit atop Ponnambalamedu, a summit in the Western Ghats mountain range close to Sabarimala. • On the day of Panguni Uthiram, devotees visit Lord Murugan's temple, where the divine marriage of the God and Goddess is conducted. This is believed to be the day when Ayyappan was born. That is Panguni Uthiram is Ayyappa Jayanthi. • The prasadam at Sabarimala temple is mainly Aravana payasam. Aravana =A Ravana = not Ravana = Murugan.
• SubraMANIan is one of the names of Murugan. Ayyappan’s name too is MANIkandan. Also Manimandapam is the place where Ayyappan is believed to have vanished into the temple. • Murugan was created to kill Tarakasur and Ayyappan was created to kill Mahishi. Dear Sir, As per the information in Wikipedia, apart from Indrajit who is the eldest, 2 other sons of Ravana who seem to be holding some significance are Atikeya/Atikaya and Akshaya Kumara.
Atikaya is the second-most powerful warrior next to Indrajith and was blessed with the secrets of archery and divine weapons by Lord Shiva himself. Brahma too for his part granted Atikeya 3 boons, i.e., the Brahmastra which could annihilate anyone, an armour which cannot be pierced through by any arrows or missiles except for the Brahmastra and the absence of thirst and lust. He was hence invincible and finally killed by Lakshmana through treachery in the Ramayanam War.
Atikeya sounds more or less like Kartikeya/Kartikaya = Murugan who is the son-in-law of Ravanan. I had mentioned about this in my previous writeup. Murugan is the God of War and he is the Lord of Serpents as per Kukke Subrahmanyam Temple where Vasuki, the King of Nagas and his elder brother Adi Seshan are found together with Murugan in the Sanctum Sanctorum. No wonder Atikaya was killed by Lakshmana who is an incarnation of Adi Sesha.
Who then is Akshaya Kumara? He is the ‘Grand’ son of Ravana. That is Murugan’s son, Ayyappan.
In the movie ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, Vijay Sethupathi who is a great devotee of Murugan will utter the dialogue, “Murugan has gone to meet Ayyappan on his peacock.” Why of all Gods Murugan should go to meet Ayyappan? Like Murugan who has 6 houses (padai veedu), the only other God who has 6 houses is Ayyappan. Also he is an expert in martial arts and warfare.
So Indrajith, Atikaya and Akshaya Kumara are the son, son-in-law and grandson of Ravana. Please read on to find how.

The Story of Akshaya Kumara:
As per their Ramayana, Akshaya Kumara also known as Mahabali Akshya was the youngest son of Ravana. When Hanuman started destroying Ashoka Vatika after a conversation with Sita, Ravana ordered Akshay to kill this infiltrator. A warrior of just sixteen, but who was trained in martial arts and learnt in all forms of war and strategy took the gaze of his father as his command and left for battle in his chariot.
He fought with Hanuman, aiming various weapons at him, but because he was young Hanuman refuses to fight at first. Though highly impressed by the young prince's valour and skills, Hanuman had no choice but to kill him in the end.
Similarity with Makaradwajan:
This story of a 16 year old boy confronting Hanuman is very similar to the story of Makaradwajan, a young boy, who fought with Hanuman to prevent him from entering the palace of Ahiravana. Both Akshay and Makaradwjan were exemplary warriors and loyal to their masters - Ravana and Ahiravana.

The Story of Makaradhwaja as per the SE Asian Version of Ramayana:
As per the Thai, Cambodian and other Southeast Asian versions of Ramayana, Suvannamacha meaning "golden fish" is a daughter of Ravana and she is a mermaid princess who would do anything for her father.
When Hanuman learns and reports that Sita is being held captive on the island of Lanka, Rama, orders him to build a bridge. Hanuman collects his band of Vanaras and they begin throwing huge boulders into the sea to make a foundation for the bridge. To their shock and surprise, the very next day these rocks go missing.
Hanuman enters the sea and finds a large number of mermaids underwater. Every time a new rock is tossed in, these mermaids take the rocks and carry them away. Hanuman looks for their leader. He spots a lovely mermaid supervising the others. He then swims towards her and informs the reason why they are building the bridge & requests her not to interfere.
She agrees and both of them develop a liking for each other. When she confesses her love for him, Hanuman however informs her that he is a celibate and cannot marry her. They part as lovers, but he blesses her a kid through his divine rays and soon she gave birth to their son, Macchanu.
Indian Version:
As per the Indian version of Ramayana, a huge fish swallows the sweat of Hanuman when he is trying to cross the ocean and becomes pregnant. It gets caught by Ahiravana’s men and when they cut it, they find a baby boy inside who is named as Makaradhdwaja and is brought up by Ahiravana. So Macchanu is Makaradhwaja and Suvannamaccha character is missing.
Makaradwaja becomes the gatekeeper of Ahiravana’s palace. Hanuman defeats him in a duel after knowing that he is his very own son and then ties him up to enter Ahiravana’s fortress. He then kills Ahiravana and rescues Rama & Lakshamana. Ram being impressed by Makardhwaja declares him the King of Patala Loka. Hanuman bids goodbye to his son with a heavy heart.

Makaradwajan is Ayyappan:
I had previously written about how Hanuman is Murugan and how Suvannamacha is linked to Meenakshi, the fish eyed Goddess. Makaradhwaja then should be the son of Murugan and the grandson of Ravana. He is infact Ayyappan and let’s see how:
1) Makaradwaja is shown as a young boy when he confronts his father Hanuman as the gatekeeper of Ahiravana’s palace as per the epic Ramayana. Ayyappan too is shown to be a young boy. At the age of twelve, he slew the demoness Mahishi and then disappeared having given instructions to his father to build a temple in his name on top of the Sabari hill.
2) Makaradwjan is a great warrior who inspite of being young, challenged the mighty Hanuman for a duel. Ayyappan too is a war god. There are legends of him learning Kalari- a martial art from Cheerappanchira Panikkar.
3) Suvannamacha meaning ‘Golden Fish’, a mermaid princess and daughter of Ravana is the mother of Makaradwaja and Hanuman is his father as per the SE Asian versions of Ramayana.
Ayyappan is the son of Mohini and Shiva. Hanuman is the 11th incarnation of Shiva. So Hanuman being a rudra avatar represents Shiva here. Mohini is the only female avatar of Vishnu. Here Vishnu is Ravanan. So Mohini is his only daughter. She represents Meenakshi and the proofs are :
• The 1998 Malayalam movie ‘Meenakshi Kalyanam’ where actress Mohini plays the role of Meenakshi.
• Meenakshi Seshadri as Mohini in the film ‘Nache Nagin Gali Gali’.
• The movie ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ where Nayanthara is the heroine. Her name in the movie is Komalavalli. Her birth name is Diana Mariam Kurien. Diana means “divine.” In Aramaic, Mary is called Maryam. The Greek translation of the Old Testament calls her Mariam, whereas with New Testament Greek, she is Maria. So Diana Mariam means Divine Mary = Meenakshi. So Yaaradi Nee Mohini = Meenakshi= daughter of Ravana and wife of Murugan.
• In the Chenna Kesava Temple at Belur, Karnataka there are a number of statues of Mohini. In one, she has a parrot, like Goddess Meenakshi and in the other, she is depicted playing Naga-Veena. Naga is Murugan, the Lord of Serpents and Veena refers to Ravana.

4) Makaradwaja is either a merman who is Half-human and Half-fish according to some scriptures or a Half-monkey and Half-fish according to a few others. His first part of the name ‘Makara’ is the name of a zodiac known as Capricorn in English. Hence he can be associated with this zodiac that has the symbol of a sea goat. That is the front portion is that of a goat and the hind part is that of a fish. Goat represents Murugan as Agnidevan and the hind part represents Makaradwajan whose lower half resembles a fish.
Ayyappan too is associated with Makaram/Capricorn zodiac when his most significant festival Makaravilakku is observed on Makara Sankranti at the shrine of Sabarimala.
Makara Sankaranthi is the day when the sun enters the Capricorn zodiac. On this day in the evening when the Dakshinayana Punyakalam ends and Uttarayana Punyakalam starts is the Makaravilakku festival that is the lighting of a bright "vilakku" (lamp) three times atop Ponnambalamedu located near the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple.
During the deeparadhana, Lord Ayyappa gives darshan fully attired in the Thrivaabharanam - gold ornaments - which is specially brought from the Pandalam Palace in a procession. Before the aarti, Makara Jyothi a celestial star appears on the sky and is believed that the deity Ayyappan asserts himself as Makara Jyothi to bless his devotees. After this the lighting of the Makaravilakku begins.
Hence Makaradwaja = Ayyappan.

Ayyappan is the Son of Murugan - Some Proofs:
• Just like how Murugan has 6 padai veedu’s, Ayyappan too has six houses - Aariyangkavu, Achan Kovil, Kulathupuzha, Erumeli, Pandalam and Sabari malai. (ஆரியங்காவு, அச்சன் கோவில், குளத்துப்புழா, எருமேலி, பந்தளம் மற்றும் சபரிமலை)
• Both Murugan and Ayyappan are considered Rudra avatars. Murugan is the son of Shiva where Shiva is Ravana. Ayyappan too is the son of Shiva where Shiva= Murugan. Hence they are also considered as brothers.
• Both Murugan and Ayyappan are associated with the festival of lights. On Kartikai Pournami, Karthigai Deepam festival is celebrated in honour of Murugan. In the town of Thiruvannamalai, the festival is marked by the lighting of a massive earthen lamp around 6 PM at the top of the 2668 feet high holy mountain of the town which is regarded to be a representation of a Shiva Linga. This is similar to the Makaravillaku festival celebrated in the Sabarimala for Ayyappan in the evening of Makara Sankranthi when a huge lamp is lit atop Ponnambalamedu, a summit in the Western Ghats mountain range close to Sabarimala.
• On the day of Panguni Uthiram, devotees visit Lord Murugan's temple, where the divine marriage of the God and Goddess is conducted. This is believed to be the day when Ayyappan was born. That is Panguni Uthiram is Ayyappa Jayanthi.
• The prasadam at Sabarimala temple is mainly Aravana payasam. Aravana =A Ravana = not Ravana = Murugan.
