you can also adapt the power rotary scissors to work with the Ego multihead that came with your edger. you should try the other attachments and see what you think
I’ve been landscaping for 36 years and over the last few years I’ve converting to electric. MeanGreen commercial mowers and Greenworks handheld equipment. I’m never looking back. We maintain and develop large estate properties and our customers love the quite and lack of fumes! Thanks Pete!
I bought the EGO Edger that came with the power head and love it. Lots a power and battery lasted easily through my whole edging process. I also have the leaf blower which is like a hurricane in TURBO mode. EGO is making very good reliable products...
I have the exact same setup and love it. I prob use the blower every day. A hedge trimmer and mower are next on the list. These are the first electric lawn tools I’ve tried with batteries that truly go the distance and have power to spare. I don’t mind the smell of gas, I just hate having to go get it. My 3 year old daughter is also afraid of the sound our mower makes.
EGO nailed it with this trimmer! It's light, balanced, and has plenty of trimming power. No more bumping and I love the Line IQ feature. Just like in your video, I was able to keep trimming without stopping. I kept feeling the need to "bump" the trimmer when the line got low, but the trimmer adjusted to the perfect length each time. Even in the vertical position the line would advance. I love the new trigger safety as its smooth and quick. I haven't had the need to load more line, so I haven't tried the autoload feature yet. This is by far the best trimmer I've ever purchased!!
I definitely agree! I ran stihl products for many years, no hassle. I love Stihl and Echo! However, I love the simplicity of all of the EGO products! They are light weight, and they get the job done! Perfect for a diy residential area. As far as mowing lawns as a business, gas might be the better option. I think EGO does way better than Kobalt or any other battery products!
I just purchased a Echo DSRM-2100 grass trimmer and have used it once for 1 hour with excellent results. I regret not seeing this video before Echo purchase as I would probably have gotten the Ego.
Pete, I wouldn’t swear to it but I think your standard edger blades fit the Ego edger. I think I have done that with mine. Also, the articulated hedge trimmer attachment is cool as well.
Great review. I haven’t made the full switch to battery just yet, but I am grabbing a battery trimmer /edger and blower. It seems perfect for late evening cleanups. My gas equipment gets pretty loud. Just trying to be a good neighbor when I can.
Not as much power?? As a recent convert from echo to ego for my house stuff, I’m not so sure. Completely agree with the noise and gas hassle. Cant wait to see the review after putting it on a real deal crew.
Ive been using Ego trimmer since 2015. same battery! It's starting to drain quicker, but still a great purchase. I also service 6 lawns weekly with that trimmer.
This video makes me so happy. I’m 18 just getting it to my lawn care. I have some black n decker 20v tools so these features are normal to me. I can’t wait to get new tools that I’m this excited about
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Hey Pete if you don’t like the clockwise head rotation of the string trimmer, you can get the string trimmer attachment for your edger, it spins counter clockwise. I grew up with curved shaft trimmers that spin clockwise and liked that I could walk forward when trimming. It took a long time for me to get used to walking backwards with a straight shaft trimmer to keep debris out of the beds or from hitting the siding. Never really understood why a straight shaft head turns counter clockwise ? Very nice review.
I love my Ego stuff. I need to buy their commercial range but later I can do that. The multi head is awesome I iust picked up a second articulating hedger for it at half price. The first one is 3yrs young and still going great. The older model blower is just so good. It keeps on going and going. Ego is very good gear.
I haven't watched u in a long time, grass hasn't been my priority at my house lately. My grass looks sooo bad now. All of this just to say, DANG YOUR HAIR GOT LONG!.. NICE!
They are great trimmers I dont like the feel of the foam padding on the handle that clamps to the shaft, but you can swap it with a handle from one of your commercial trimmers gives it a more premium feel.
I love Ego, it's the best and most well thought out battery platform imo. I've been considering their 0 turn mower, however, it would just be an overkill for my 7k sq ft lawn. With Ryobi stepping up their game and coming out with a smaller 30" 0 turn mower, I might be switching over to at least their mower. I'd really like to see Ego come out with more -- dethatcher, smaller 0 turn mower, garden tools etc.
Just finished first use and about to submit the warranty registration. Have to say I am very impressed!. My gas Toro switchable Edger/Trimmer died, so great opportunity to make the change. Did a lot of research which was mind blowing matching things up but ultimately settled Ego over the 40w Ryobi. Almost ended up with the same exact buying senario as you with the two individual units and sharing the battery. What held me back is that no Lowes in the Orlando metro area had the Edger with head unit in stock with a 10 day order delivery I wasn't willing to wait and Ace only carried the attachment without the head unit. Ace did carry the Edger with head unit and 2.5amp battery for $305 and while I didn't need the trimmer immediately, could order it for $129, but then I discovered a package of both the Edger and Trimmer attachments with the head unit, and to sweeten it even further, it came with the 5 amp battery for $410. DONE DEAL! Lowes does not carry that combo package, unfortunately as I would get a military discount there. Difference in the trimmer with what you have is the manual loading you described, and bump advance - but I am fine with that. I couldn't believe the power on the edger on level 1, feeling self propelled walking faster than I normally do. But the thing that really impressed me was runtime after initial full charge. I know from planning and laying sprinkler irrigation pipe, my sidewalk on a corner low is 310 feet (1 football field is 300 feet!). Curb plus both sides of sidewalk is 3 football fields then add driveway end entry walkway is a lot of edging, together with string trimming trees and flower beds, I only used 1 LED on the battery, so I had 80% charge remaining!
I have a 20 year old homelite curved shaft weed eater and a leaf blower that I purchased when I purchased my first home. Both fired up yesterday when I did my first cut in Pennsylvania
I have the Stihl Battery Kombi Motor KMA135R for my curved stick edger and string trimmer. Best decision (and purchase) I made switching from gas to battery. Minimal noise and I can take care of my lawn anytime of the day.
I bought my EGO about 6 years ago and still working Great !! As for the power difference between battery or gas? I really couldn't tell the difference on my trimming. I'll never own a gas trimmer again and I have a acre size yard.
Pete I have had the entire line of Ego products for several Years. With that power head for the stick trimmer I can attach a pole saw for trimming trees, a hedge trimmer for trimming bushes, a tiller for the garden (which I used when I did my renovation) I am a big fan of Ego and also have the lawn mower. One of my 4 batteries stopped working and Ego sent me a replacement battery for no Charge. I have a son that lives up north in Chicago and he uses the Ego Snow blower which he says works great also! I highly recommend Ego lawn tools for the DIY homeowner. I don't think it's the right thing for a lawn care service unless you invest in a lot of batteries or can use the chargers on your truck while you make your rounds.
I spent months going over this decision and if I went battery, EGO would be it. But it still falls short, and so I ended up buying a New Honda HRX217 mower. I've used Honda Power Equipment since the early 90's and my '93 Honda HS624 SNowblower still starts first time every time. 29 years-old and runs better than most new machines out there. Honda maintenance is EASY. Gasoline internal combustion engines will still be around for decades to come as battery material costs will soar with increased production making it too costly. Just look at the cost of a replacement Ego 10ah battery $450.00 + Tax. Almost the cost of my new Honda mower that will last for decades to come... But if Battery is for you, EGO seems a good choice among it's current competition.
True everything you’ve said. I hear motors running all day at work. When I do my yard at home I actually enjoy the peace and quiet. That’s what this decision came down to for me.
Ok I was a nervous wreck watching you get so close to hitting the car with the trimmers. You sold me. My Craftsman kicked the bucket today so I need a replacement. I wish they had the smart IQ on a trimmer that can change tools. Looks like I will have to buy two like you did. Thanks Pete.
Pete u can just order the 1”x8” 1” hole edger blades. Don’t need to buy the “ego” edger blades for the ego edger.. same gos for the weed wacker string any 095 will work!!
Good honest video. Good to see someone address the power comparison between this and gas. Even though there’s a dip in power, the EGO is my choice for the same reasons.
I'm sold on all the battery powered stuff coming out these days. A lot of it works on par or better then gas. I even started switching all my carpentry tools over as well. Great video once again.
I have the mower, backpack blower, and string trimmer. I love the string trimmer, best purchase I've may in years. I you can slow it down and trimmer and it doesn't kick the discharge out to far. Best part is that you charge it and it works!
For now Im using the dewalt flex volt as a solo operator with a 6 and 9 ah battery. I also run echo as my main gas equipment, but mostly leave it for the helpers.
Outside of my mower and backpack blower, everything I own is now battery operated. The attachments to these Ego trimmers are awesome, particularly the brush. My home is on a 3.5 acre property and the battery life is more than enough. My wife can use them. Plenty of power. Most importantly, I go through soo much less fuel. I've always used the ethanol free gas in my equipment so I am saving a boatload of money. Paid for itself in a year.
No complaints about my Kobalt 80v system that I have been using. Plenty of power and versatility. Waiting to try the power rotary scissors on the string trimmer to see how that combo works out.
Switched over to a bunch of 60v green works equipment. Still deciding on when to go electric with the mower. Takes me about 2 hours to double cut my front and back and I'd be upset to have to take a break to charge
Pete, great video! I bought the EGO push mower, blower, string trimmer and 16" chainsaw and I love em. Not having to deal with gasoline is sweet. I bought the mower and string trimmer from Ace hardware and the blower and chainsaw from Lowe's. I may get the edger since I saw how well it worked in your video. Thanks for posting this awesome video!
My sister and dad run Ego trimmers, edgers and leaf blowers, for the past 3 years. They work great for smaller, weekly jobs. The batteries only last 2-3 years. But don't give the full performance after a season. They had to buy a new battery and they are $300 for a 5 amp hr! I prefer gas, and I feel that overall it is cheaper in the long run. I paid $209 for my Stihl blower 18 years ago, and have only spent maybe $80 in parts over the years. Yes it does need gas, but never having to buy a battery, running out of juice, or forgetting to charge is worth it to me. I will keep my Stihl, and Echo stuff. I am just a home owner who mows every 5 days or so.
Pete, have you used the rotary power scissors? I just got one and put it on the end of my EGO attachment and it is terrific. A little spendy at $250 but sure is worth it in my opinion.
I bought the same blower last year. I too do not like the smell of the gas/oil mixture smoke. I really like it, the biggest drawback is that the battery doesn't last as long as I need it too (at times). So, if ihad 2 batteries i would be just fine.
My edges are a perfect 90 with absolutely no dirt showing using a string trimmer, I concentrate heavily on watching the blades of grass be cut to make sure the edge is perfect. I am going to buy a blade edger to make it easier.
I loved the Ego sting trimmer but it died after about 6 weeks. My fault technically, as the grass was dew covered and somewhere in the manual it stated dry grass only. It was back when Home Depot sold them, neither they or Ego wanted anything to do with warrenty because the grass was not dry.
There are repair shops around. I think you should investigate what actually is wrong with it. The motor is water proof yes? Maybe the battery cacked it.
@@terryinozland It was ~6 years ago, i moved on to a Stihl gas trimmer but would like to re-visit battery as i'm not a fan of oil-gas exhaust. It was water getting into the motor head that relased the magic smoke, so at least in the unit i had it was not sufficiently water proof to deal with dew covered grass. The blower i bought at the same time has worked reliably for the past 6 years but 1 of the batteries gave up this past week.
Stihl and Husqvarna are great battery machines albeit quite expensive. Ego multi head is awesome but the trimmer needs the bigger battery or two 2.5ah to get you through it eats power.
Gravely makes a new battery powered zero turn (not sure if they make walk behinds yet). So does Ego. It looked like the Ego mower takes like 6 batteries. So you could use the batteries you already have in the system. You going to battery for the mower too? At least at home.
It may be a good product but I just can’t get into the battery powered things for lawn care. I have a ton of DeWalt and Milwaukee batteries and it still never fails I’m looking for a charged battery.
I wondering how well brush guard will work on it cause most electrics just don’t have power I need to cut through trees that are starting harden up at bottom
I have a toro gas weedeater a Ryobi 40v and a kobalt 80v & I honestly think that the kobalt 80v is the most powerful out of the bunch.. but I don’t really like the feel of it.
The big snow blower is awesome. Other products do not seem worth the compromise. Certainly not the mowers for thick zoysia and the trimmer, ehh… rather have gas.
I’m with Pete on this, I’m not a fan of the gas either. But my favorite part is just how little noise all these units make. I have a gas backpack blower and wish I had got the ego
PETE! Can you do a video going over your perimeter fence lines & such. I believe you have pine needles along your fence lines? Just how you establish & maintain that throughout the seasons.
Imo there is no reason for a home owner to buy gas tools in 2022, I have about 1.3 acres and I waited way too long to get rid of the gas stuff. I ended up with the milwaukee trimmer and blower, and one of the green works “commercial” line mowers. I can get through my yard on one set of batteries. The ego stuff looks really nicely made!
Great review! I'm looking at getting one of those string trimmers since I already have an Ego blower. Amen to that about the gunpowder, I could smell that stuff all day! I liked the nod to Pat MacNamara too, "Basic dude stuff".
Pete welcome to the beautiful convenience of ego! Their hand held tools are by far the best battery powered equipment on the market. Great choice. I absolutely love my ego tools.
Thanks for the review as I just got both units as well. I wonder, with cordless trimmer, edger and mower if they would allow you lawn care business to start your working day earlier since it does not make as much noise as gas powered equipment.
I hope that their stuff is better than Black and Decker. I cheaped out, and now I’m down to one battery after five years of ownership. I had three total, but they didn’t last.
I had ryobi battery powered weed eater and blower. They worked great however when I started feeding my lawn with petes products I felt like it didn't have enough power to cut the grass without tearing it. I then purchased the kombi set up from sthil. I use the weed eater and edger. Edger is good to go but I have the same torn look from both weed eaters. I'm curious to see the long term results of and effects of the ego products. Thanks for the review Pete.
I've tried electric trimmers and blowers. At this point they are fine for residential or small commercial jobs. For large commercial operators like myself, the technology just isnt where it needs to be to be efficient
Love my EGO products. Battery lasts a decent amount of time, great for a home owner who isn’t a professional lawn person. The 640 CFM blower is CRAZY good.
I have the ego power head with the trimmer and edger I love them just bought the hedger and used it on last weekend. My friend has the carbon fiber one and it is lighter which is good because my arm starts to hurt after about 20 min.
As of December 2020 EGO and Lowe's formed an exclusive relationship. Thought you'd like to know. Thank you for the honesty and God bless! 😁👍 P.S. EGO is also available at Ace Hardware and on Amazon. I can only assume they pay royalties to Lowe's. Bottom line, EGO is NOT available at Home Depot.
I got the EGO lawn mower. Sucks with dewy grass or long grass but worth the $$. I was impressed with the EGO 24" self propelled snowblower. but for a leaf blower I gotta stick with gas.
Thanks for the great video. I am thinking about buying the stick edger but hold on to my Echo trimmer for a little while longer. Now you should try their zero turn!
Hey Pete! I just wanted to let you know that EGO has a commercial line of products too. That might be a better fit for your company. But I'm going to tell you, they are NOT cheap. Also I've had the same products you just reviewed for years now and love them. I have 2 batteries so I always have one charged up.
Anyone else TIRED of charging every friggin thing? I am. I dont want ANOTHER battery shape and ANOTHER charger and wanting to do something quick but the battery wasnt charged because leaving it on the charger wears down a lithium battery. What a royal pain in the neck.
you can also adapt the power rotary scissors to work with the Ego multihead that came with your edger. you should try the other attachments and see what you think
I plan to do this for sure!
Pretty sure it needs to be a combo kit.
Curious if it does fit on one of those.
Would look sick with the carbon shaft 😎

Yep. I just watched a 30 minute video over equipment I already own. Pete is awesome. I appreciate everything he says and enjoy the videos.
Same here!
Same 😂
I did the same thing
I love the smells of gasoline and oil and almost anything related to working on cars. I grew up around that.
I love my Stihl battery powered weed eater very light and it’s quiet. But great video have a blessed day!!

You can reverse the direction of the head by switching 2 wires in the top of the unit. It’s a 5 minute job definitely recommend. There’s a video on it
I bought the EGO Edger that came with the power head and love it. Lots a power and battery lasted easily through my whole edging process. I also have the leaf blower which is like a hurricane in TURBO mode. EGO is making very good reliable products...

Looking good, I went all in with Milwaukee M18 two years ago when I bought my house, best investment ever! Like given as always Pete!
Good honest video. Good to see someone address the power comparison between this and gas. Even though there’s a dip in power, the EGO is my choice for the same reasons.
Same setup I bought a few weeks ago. Really nice piece of equipment.
I have the EGO blower already i do need a stick edger and I only do my own home so that would be perfect for me. Cool!!
I would to see a follow up on this trimmer with a crew. I’m thinking about buying this but don’t know how it would hold up with 10 properties a day.
EGO definitely needs to sponsors you. The battery power should eliminate the gas smell and sound
I have an electric string trimmer and it's head can rotate 90⁰ to make edging super easy!
No complaints about my Kobalt 80v system that I have been using. Plenty of power and versatility. Waiting to try the power rotary scissors on the string trimmer to see how that combo works out.
I bought and returned the big Ego string trimmer. Too heavy and line is too short. And the spin direction. Thank goodness Lowe’s took it back.
Switched over to a bunch of 60v green works equipment. Still deciding on when to go electric with the mower. Takes me about 2 hours to double cut my front and back and I'd be upset to have to take a break to charge
Quality gas equipment will still be running when this stuff is in the landfill.
I find I use the blower more for drying off the cars after a wash. Makes it so much quicker and easier
Joe homeowner will appreciate this video. #echoforlife
Love the auto feed! Great review Pete.
Pete I’d love to see that Rotary Scissor attachment mounted onto this battery setup.
I believe it would make a great combination.
You have probably covered this before, but why do you have straw bales in your beds?
I live my EGO mower and will be getting the newest string trimmer for sure
It may be a good product but I just can’t get into the battery powered things for lawn care. I have a ton of DeWalt and Milwaukee batteries and it still never fails I’m looking for a charged battery.
I wondering how well brush guard will work on it cause most electrics just don’t have power I need to cut through trees that are starting harden up at bottom
I would love to hear the results after 1 year use with your crew .
How long does the battery last cause I mow 7 residential lawns a day.
Do you think the strinf trimmer could do the edging nice and straight if your new into the game. Or is the actual edger much better at it ?
Love my trimmer & 650 ego blower. Gotta get that edger now God bless
I think I can agree with this
Love my EGO products.
When you getting the back pack blower? I love my ego stuff
They make a backpack blower???? I had no clue!!!
@@GCITurf man it’s literally the best blower I’ve had. I think it’s 600cfm. And a 7.5 Ahr battery
@@Bkozic3 the ego blower I just looked at is $1300 🤮🤮🤮
@@GCITurf something is wrong then. The homeowner version is no more than $400.
@@Barod52 I must be looking at the pro version. I’ll look again
Excellent review and professional camera work. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how it holds up to commercial use.
As of December 2020 EGO and Lowe's formed an exclusive relationship. Thought you'd like to know. Thank you for the honesty and God bless! 😁👍
I’ve got the ECO trimmer, and love it!!
awesome mustang pete ! i use to have a 2016 supercharged gt all black just like yours ! now i have a 21 f150, i do miss the mustang at times
