Lesson learned- I have my own range on my farm and over the years I’ve hosted dozens of guests. 95% of my visitors would bring their entire arsenal or most of it. When it came to shooting skill they were at best fair but mostly poor shooters. I also would bring several of my favorites and put 25-50 rds through each of them and could out shoot pretty much all of them ( I had my own range, right). One day I met Chip and Arnold at the local gun store, after discovering that we had many mutual acquaintances I invited them to shoot with me. To my surprise they each showed up with one gun. Glock 19 and 1911 in 9 mm, I brought my top five show off guns. They suggested that we do some drills and that’s when it got ugly, I had to decide which gun I was going to use, they obviously didn’t. After extensive shooting for speed and accuracy at close range I realized that these guys were serious competition shooters. One drill was taking turns shooting at an 18” steel target starting at 25 yds. After each rd everyone takes 5 paces back. If you missed twice you were out. I made it to 45 yds. Chip and Arnold were still pounding it at 100 yds and ran out of room. Arnold won with zero misses Chip missed once. Fast forward 10 yrs. I only carry one gun to the range, quote from Chip “ beware of the man with one gun”.

Tribal folk in Afghanistan are doing just fine with their beat-to-shit, “outdated” weaponry against a far more well equipped enemy. Just saying. “Run what you brung” is the best advice.
This is a bit lengthy, but bare with me; this isn't bashing anyone or any product. Just a real life scenario. Back in 2012 when I was stationed at Bolling AFB I was chatting with a naval researcher at the navy research lab (it's attached to the base in dc) we were talking guns and I told him I had an Enfield, that peaked his interest because he then told me this. Apparently that spring there was a platoon of marines that were pinned down by a half dozen insurgents armed with No 4 Mk1 Enfield rifles. The insurgents had the marines pinned down over 600 meters away volleying in .303 rounds on their position using iron sights. the marines tried returning fire but the 5.56 is really only good out to 400 meters so they were limited in what they could do, especially when the enemy had the high ground; which they did. The only way the marines made it out was due to an attack helicopter that came into save them blew up the bad guys. The researcher telling me that the military at that time was trying to figure ways to counter the enemy armed with these rifles and find a different angle on tactics when we encountered situations like this on the battlefield today when CAS may not be an option; eh sorta today now that quite some time has passed. I guess the take way from this is that, sometimes the old stuff isn't always that bad.

I guess the take way from this is that, sometimes the old stuff isn't always that bad.

yes, a S&W Sigma 380... I owned it for about 2 weeks before I could find a buyer
I live in central Florida where it rains very often obviously. I run a 20 year old German military raincoat and it's still keeping me dry as bone. A gun that runs dependably is a good one. Training is the key. Train, train, train....then train somemore.
I always buy stock guns and build them up myself. I get to pick my parts and its more fun. It may take a while but I have a functional firearm throughout the entire process. Dont forget, a lot of this stuff comes down to personal preferences. Lots of aftermarket parts do the exact same thing at different prices and appearances.
A good man with an average gun is better than an average man with a good gun.
As long as the gun works its a good gun.
As an old U.S. Navy Veteran geezer, who has had firearms since the early 1980s, but who only started collecting a decade ago, I only have One "Nice" (?) Firearm that I bought New, a CZ 75 P01.
Most of the other "nicer stuff" I bought used, from my Beretta 92FS Inox and 3032 Tomcat, to my SIG 226 and Ruger GP100. Have quite a collection of Milsurps including Tokarovs, Makarovs, a P64, a couple old CZs, and 2 Garbage Rods (Mosins). plus an assortment of New "not-very-expensive" (A relative term) PSA kit ARs, some rifles, shotguns, pistols and Glocks. (Duty Sidearms)
I may not have any "High Dollar Safe Queens", but over time, I have acquired a decent collection of reliable firearms. I'm not embarrassed about any of them, not even my Hi-Point 995TS PCC.
You guys should do a video on “Top 5 Guns That Would Make Perfect Melee Weapons” I.e. HiPoint due to its heavy weight works as a club lol. Just saying.
#1 Mosin Nagant with a bayonet, gives you a 6 foot reach. #2 Sks with folding bayonet
Hi point being made of pot metal makes it a bad melee weapon the slides break easy.
If we're being real that would just become "top five guns with bayonets" lol
"Top 5 Guns That Would Make Perfect Melee Weapons"? That title isn't even well thought out. No gun makes a "perfect" melee weapon. Hell, most melee weapons don't make perfect melee weapons. There's so many factors. A Hi-Point is not going to make the top 5 melee weapons for a gun much less for any reason. It's made of a brittle zink alloy. It would make a better boat anchor than a melee weapon and a boat anchor would make a better melee weapon than a Hi-Point. Or were you just making a joke?
Your not wrong but not sure your right either... lol
My favorite thing about buying cheap guns is not spending 500+ dollars on a different caliber just to find out I dont like it or the ammo is expensive
I work on a farm in FL cz 455 22 mag is my everyday carry.
I love my 22wmr
Makarov was my issue back in the day. I love that little buddy.
AR guy: your gun sucks
Me: gimme 5 minutes to load this 50 cal ball in my musket
Hey! That musket's Eric's EDC! lol
Give me 10 minutes to load my black powder cannon.
Pfft....a good man can load and fire 3 rounds from a Brown Bess in 60 seconds
@@MrCoyote52 Do a video. 😆
@@FinehomesofNewHampshire Look it up yourself, there are plenty of videos already on UA-cam. Do not underestimate a weapon just because it is the ancestor of something more modern.
Applies to everything that needs equipment. I even remember the 80s where nobody could do aerobic exercise without the correct legwarmers
Well said, and today any non American made polymer gun with a "dot" is the thing
The 40 S&W was the newest, greatest caliber ever when I bought it. Three years later, it was hated. I don't buy any firearm until it's been out for 5 years. Better price and updated generations too.
40 S&W is a damn good caliber. I prefer 9mm but not because it's more effective, it's not.

lol, whats wrong with .40? I have an old smith sigma that runs great. I have a g22 and am currently looking for a g27. I also have a sub2k in 40s&w.
I love all my .40's.
I've been fortunate to own a couple high end 1911s and some 500 to 700 dollar ones. If you are flat ranging down a lane indoors to shoot Xs or bullseyes there is no doubt the fancy gun will likely come out on top and the feel of the quality is obvious. Go run a tactical course with one of each and I bet most even above average shooter's would have virtually the same results from both guns.
My gun may suck, but my aim is pretty good.
*has perfect aim but shitty gun, gun jams and fails every other shot, aim not withstanding constant malfunction, you are shot by your attacker and killed*

I remember that Gun Gripe Episode Use What You’ve Got. It’s one my favorite gun gripe episodes produced. It’s a good thing you guys expanded this topic from that Gun Gripe Episode.
Hey dude, your gun's sus
Biggest learning experience for me was to show up at a shooting match and just run what I had. Very humbling and you also learn what actually works. You can get pretty far with normal gear.
It goes the other way also I have family members that keep asking how many guns do you have now you can stop buying now you spent 3K for this gun WHY. But their the first ones to say bring your 338 Lapua Magnum shooting today or your Scar 17,MP5 or your Desert Eagle 50 AE. They love shooting my $2 to $10 a round ammo.
I listen to other gun podcasts but this one is clearly the best. Keep it up guys.
I love affordable Turkish arms. SAR, Canik, any one of a myriad of extremely affordable quality shotguns come to mind.
Yep. I own 15 Caniks abd various other Turkish pistols and 2 Tri-star shotguns... theyre incredible. Id buy another 10 Caniks before I touched a SIG product.
@@DB.KOOPER that's the problem, you are literally funding the enemy when you buy products not made in america. Sig is now american manufactured.

Glock < HI Point.
Glad when you guys do reviews on the inexpensive and expensive guns. I buy what I can afford. Also, LOVE my Kel-tec sub 2000 and it’s usage of Glock mags got me to purchase one.
This theory can also apply to guitars, pedals and amps. Having a 59 burst WILL make you play like Duane Allman
💖
When it comes time to fight, I'd rather have an army of "kids" with "Walmart ukuleles" than a couple "Duane Allman"s with "59 burst"s.
This happens with in-brand people. I'm a CZ guy and I've seen multiple times a new gun buyer on a certain FB page showing not just their first CZ, but their first gun purchase, usually a P10C or F, and promptly slammed for not getting a steel framed 75 and their purchase isn't a, "real" CZ. Nice way to welcome someone into the gun community.
The only time I said " your gun sucks" was when a guy at the range was trying to explain to me his ras47 is better than Bulgarians
Well the guy at the range was correct. Your Bulgarian sucks in comparison. His RAS47 has the ability to take down two people simultaneously, the threat and the user.
What a dumbass
@@charisperissos1320 you had me at the start lol
@@farmninja6653 It blows my mind that century has been cranking out aks for what a decade, and they didnt make a descent one until last year. Meanwhile PSA seems to have resolved most of their issues after there gen 1 rifles. Lets hope they continue to improve because there's a strong chance imports will be banned by this administration
Ras47 is a top tier AK, guy at the range was right.
I'm not opposed to less expensive firearms, as long as they are quality.
It helps us, when you guys, and others, do reviews on the less expensive firearms.
We can take your word on it.
It would be helpful for those on a tight budget.
While I am a bit of a gun snob, my favorite gun and my bedside gun is a value gun. It works. It always works and I've put 28,000 rounds through it.
What is it?
@@joshuagibson2520 SigPro 2022 (9mm). I own a H&K USP and several metal Sigs, but somehow the value Sig is my favorite. My second favorite is a S&W shield (1.0). The shield after 5000 rounds smooths out to take away most of the 1st generation detractions (the slide is still too stiff for some). While I don't own one, the S&W SD9VE has a reputation where the first shot fired is often into the bad guy and it works even if left in a tackle box.
Dam I wish that kind of ammo was still available. That now would cost you $50000.
@@External2737 I can't disagree with any of that.
@@External2737 "Sig sauer is too expensive" sig sp2022. *Exists*
I believe the gun market has become very forgiving on low budgets. You can get a fairly decent handgun now for 200-300 dollars
I really love this video. All my firearms have wood furniture and are either surplus (1943 mosin, rossi single 12ga etc) and I'm always getting flack for it. I'm an excellent shot, my home is safe and my wallet is happy and so am I. Great video again thank you!
Honestly wood looks a lot better than most synthetic furniture. I have a Remington 783 30-06, great gun, but I'm planning on replacing the polymer stock with some laminate wood. Those early surplus guns are some of the best guns made as well. I would rather have a M1 Garand than some of the newer rifles they come out with.
I agree with this gripe. I have been laughed at for having a PSA AR15 or a Taurus pistol or other budget firearm options. Also with optics, I get put down by having a Bushnell, Vortex, and Primary Arms.
With my PSA AR15, I have the FN CHF Barrel and their premium BCG, I have well over 3,000+ rounds through it and I built it myself. I have put it against others at the range and when I first built it I took it to a class at my range that I got to walk-in and join and the first day put 1,500 rounds through it of steel case Wolf and Tulammo without a single issue while others were malfunctioning, they were running high end $2,000+ dollar ARs.
My other hobby I stopped cause I got back into firearms and got my SDI Gunsmith Certification, I had to drop cause computers are at times more expensive than some firearms, but I couldn't defend myself or put food on the table with a computer, well maybe food with online sales.
I had to build 1911 for my Capstone project, I see people putting me down cause of having an 80% 1911 build. I have also to get where I am now in firearms also sold and traded to get the better AR, pistol, etc.
Great topic, Thanks.
Carried a Star BM 9mm, in an Uncle Mikes IWB holster for years until it started to not be reliable anymore.
My new years resolution is for everyone to STOP BEING POOR
Ive had good experience with cheap guns with a little work. I have a sccy cpx-2 that i have replaced the spring from a 7 pound pull to a 3 1/2 pound pull. I recently picked up a brand new g3c for less then $270. Have not shot it yet but the gun feels really well made. 12+1 and came with 3 mags really could not beat it for the price. As for rifles Ive taken many coyotes with Savages old model of the Axis (I have the edge) and have had it for years. Only thing with rifles is the barrel wobble if you buy cheap synthitic stocks. Upgraded to the WInchester model 70 featherweight with a walnut stock and put a nice Vortex scope for under 1200 not to long ago.
The main reason the keltec video was so big is because those are legal here in Canada so you have a larger audience

Along with a video of y’all’s gun history, I think a series of videos on “5 best guns for $___” would be very entertaining. Showing examples of a 5 gun collection for different budgets from maybe $500 all the way up to “dream guns” would be very helpful for new gun owners.
