      Sorry, I need to go off topic a bit. Did you end up ordering the 2018 Ryoga? It has just been in stock since yesterday and I have already ordered one. And a Singaporean guy just posted the world's first unboxing and table top review of the reel. He pulled out his own Conquest to compare and said Daiwa's Hyper Mesh Gearing is on a totally different level to Shimano's Micro Module Gearing as in it is far smoother. You might want to look into it. ua-cam.com/video/r1OkYYYH1BE/v-deo.html

    I think it is great you tested these big brand overpriced reels. What your test proved is the big name reel companies are more talk than walk. They all should look long and hard at any reel that costs a tenth of the price ever being able to sit on the same table as their best of the line. The average angler is never going to buy $450 dollar reels and then sink another couple hundred into spools and bearing. However, a reel costing $48 dollars and a rod in that same price range that performs as the Tsurinoya XF-50 is in everyones price range. This to me is the winner of this contest. The Japanese were building ultralight casting reels in the 80’s. I saw them and held a few myself. I met two Anglers that had brought back from Japan 4 very custom-made outfits they used for fishing Walleye in Lake Erie and fishing for Stripers in Chesapeake Bay. The rods were around ten-feet long. All handmade jobs costing them a big bundle. They were both trying to set new line records for the IFGA 2-pound line class.
    A few bits of interesting history for your reading UA-camrs Ponder using 2-pound line and landing a 15-pound largemouth
    1990 Robert Crupi awarded the IGFA conventional tackle record for 4lb. line catching a largemouth bass weighing 17-pounds 1oz. Bait used Mud-Suckers & Crayfish.
    1990 Robert Crupi awarded the IGFA conventional tackle record for 12lb. line catching a largemouth bass weighing 21-pounds Bait used Mud-Suckers & Crayfish.
    1992 Robert Crupi awarded the IGFA conventional tackle record for 2lb. line catching a largemouth bass weighing 14-pounds 12oz. Bait used Mud-Suckers & Crayfish.
    Enough said:
    PS: A tip form Uncle Don: Buy yourself a ten dollar line counter on E-Bay and you can save yourself a lot wasted time.

    Great comparison! Nice to see these go head to head.
    Heres a tip for you:
    How about an avail spool for the regular aldebaran? Then you have a superlight spool
    i believe 6,5 gram with bearing, and adjustable sentrifugal force.
    Best of both worlds?....

      @Felix-mr1vs 6 років тому +3

      Have the Yumeya BFS spool (9.2g) for the 2015 Aldebaran with HH Air bearings. It's nice, but I feel there is still some room left to cast super light lures. The Avail or KTF spool would most likely be better choices if you want to cast all the way down to 1/16oz.
      Currently waiting for the Alphas Air Stream Custom to decide whether I'll get the 2016 Aldebaran BFS or the latter for a true UL outfit.

      I understand. Just wanted to mention that there is an extreme lightweigth, externally adjustable

    Another budget option is a used previous model reel by Daiwa or Shimano or even Abu Garcia (most fisherman will already have one) with the appropriate model DIY Spool (available on eBay and AliExpress) for around $50. The spools usually weight between 7-10g without bearings. The ones I have work great in my old TDZ and Tatula CT.

    Very good test you provided.
    You mentioned some of the reels were not “braid” line compatible. Too bad so sad.
    I would expect to see numbers for 4# braided line to far surpass any of your test numbers with mono.
    Mono is thicker and has memory which I consider a poor trait for finesse. Fluoro maybe.
    Any possibility of doing the Shimanos again with braided or fluorocarbon?
    Just prefer braid myself.
    I suppose I am considered a power angler by some.
    Thanks. I do appreciate the time you share with us.

    The latest reels have a difference in the flight distance of lighter lures. The latest reels fly well with a weight of 0.8-1.5g. When it weighs more than 3g, it is no different from the old reel

    Unfortunately light is also cheap. And as lightness rules the day in bfs, what I’ve found out about these 50 dollar reels is that for the MOST part they start running rough after just a few outings. The Piscifun Alloy M is one of the few cheap reels that rivals a lot of 150-200 dollar reels. I’m using one for winter steelhead right now. Has an amazingly smooth, yet super strong drag. I’ve landed 2 chinook on accident with it!

    You need to do a gofundme so all of us can pitch in $1 and you can get some big spools of braid instead of that yellow ass line you keep using, lol. This way you can move the line from reel to reel without coils and in the long run might save you some money anyways. If you don't fish much with it and use it for testing the line would last you years.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  6 років тому +2

      I dont mind borrowing a reel but Im not going to beg for money like some loser lol.

    • @decoyn-7782
      @decoyn-7782 6 років тому +1

      THE REEL TEST it's nothing like that, I'm sure plenty of people would pitch in who would rather see some tests done with braid. If u don't want to do gofundme set up a patreon through UA-cam maybe?

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  6 років тому +1

      LOL patreon is pretty much begging for money though. On the next big test I may buy one spool and just transfer from one reel to another if the capacities are similiar or even try Gliss. But the point is, I rarely use braid, and at least around here, I rarely see people use braid. The line I used was pretty coil free because I spooled all the reels up before leaving for the test field.

  • @xiaoyangzhang
    @xiaoyangzhang 6 років тому +2

    Great work! Even for non-BFS guys like me, it's quite interesting. About the Centrifugal brake vs Magnetic brake, could it be that the traditional centrifugal force comes from physical friction, which becomes unstable when lure weight decrease, yet magnetic brake force is equally stable no matter the lure weight?

    • @vire559
      @vire559 6 років тому

      There is an exception for the magnetic FTB, the brake has spring mechanism and apply more force when the spool rotate at is fastest

    • @xiaoyangzhang
      @xiaoyangzhang 6 років тому

      So it's similar to Magforce Z. But still, no physical friction, right? No contact with any metal rings in the sideplate. I think that's why this FTB is more stable no matter the lure weight. For traditional centrifugal brake system, it just seems to me that a lot factors can affect the friction force, surface smoothness, spool vibration, even temperature and moisture if we really want to get down to it. None of these factors matter much when the lure weight is high, but when the lure weight gets down to certain point, they just start to affect the brake force stability.
      I am not engineer, or into BFS. Just my thoughts.

    • @vire559
      @vire559 6 років тому

      It is similiar but what makes me wonder is in logic the heavier lure should trigger the brake faster but lighter lure wont do the same thing thus consistency distance. Maybe it is because there is a brake on the spool prevent it to rotate freely and it is the same case as in magforce.

    • @xiaoyangzhang
      @xiaoyangzhang 6 років тому

      Yeah, how does lure weight affect the brake force in a centrifugally induced magnetic brake system, it's a whole other topic to discuss. I am just trying to compare this FTB system to the traditional centrifugal system, whose brake force relies on physical friction. And try to figure out why it excels on 1/8 oz, but lose the edge to the FTB system on the 1.7 gram lure.

    • @vire559

      They do not come off, i recommend that you turn them all on first by pushing each block down towards the center of the spool. then i would start out by turning half of them on by taking your finger nail and pulling them up until you feel it click. then you should be able to move the brake block up and down and see the movement.

      Guessing its a US preference, I think its very uncommon in Europe and Asia to fish with mono, specially that thick on a BFS setup. Regardless of this detail, good job on the video.

      He could do a better one TBH. Grab a Piscifun, Black Max, Kast King, SIXGILL, and a LIXDA and other 50 dollar reels

      Paul Mailliard we already know the black max and the piscifun will be the top two choices

      Brian Villasenor really? I have a piscifun, a Kast king and a black max... I only like the kast king out of the 3.

    compare the Shimano BFS reels with the Shimano Stradic spinning reel. for light lures, spinning is suppose to be better.

      THE REEL TEST I Understand we all have our opinion. In my experience the Z has been the best for me. Not only distance but accuracy. One handed flips to 2 handed bomb, never have to worry about any kind of backlash or malfunctioning. 22lb drag is crazy. With the outer brake on 6 and the inside brake adjusted correctly even the smallest crank bait or any other tiny lures have performed perfect. I think a lot goes into different fishing styles when it comes to casting and smoothness. I’ll rephrase my comment. For me it’s the best all around.

      The fact that you are even trying to compare the Concept Z with these very specialized finesse baitcasters shows me you dont know anything. Also my "opinions" are backed with evidence. Evidence that I have experience with a huge array of different reels of all different price points.

    Maybe you can try the Casitas with ray's studio shallow spool for the SVS centrifugal brake with finer adjustment. Its quit a cheap setup at around $150 including the upgraded spool.

      I took a look and I dont like how you have to take the brake shoes off the old spool. I have a shallow spool on the way for the 15 Aldebaran

      @badiozamansulaiman8890 6 років тому

      Yes, that is true and downside of that spool.. aldebaran 15 with shallow spool seems like a very nice setup
