There sure are a lot of "cliff-hangers" in that super wholesome manga about the son and mother. It truly warms my heart every volume!

I’m loving welcome back Alice and tbh I thought it was the most wholesome thing written by him that I’ve ever ver read. I saw many ppl online saying they were disturbed by it but honestly, they probably didn’t read any other of his works bc I remember waiting and waiting for the REAL disturbance to kick in (it was still f up sometimes but that’s just what he does in general) and it didn’t come⁉️😭

Inside Mari was the first series I read by him and I couldn’t stop reading it. I immediately started buying all of his work. Although I think Blood on the Tracks is my favorite, since it hasn’t finished yet, Inside Mari is easily in my top 10 manga of all time. I finished Flowers of Evil last night. Personally I had a hard time fully getting into it during the first half. I found all of the characters so unlikeable, but I really got roped in during the second half. I’m currently reading Welcome Back Alice while I wait for Blood on the Tracks vol 14 to come out. Next I’ll move on to Happiness

@@gamingcactus4634 I'm reading the physical books in English, only 4 are out right now but I'm caught up. I like it, but it's not instantly drawing me in like Inside Mari and Blood on the tracks did. It's a good story, I'm just not instantly hooked yet. I'd say Blood on the tracks > Mari > Happiness > Flowers > Alice. Maybe once I get a bit further into the story it will surpass flowers of evil.

Welcome Back Alice really knocked it out of the park in the second half. Tack sharp, deeply personal, unapologetic and even joyful, some of Oshimi's best work. Top 2 with Inside Mari (I can't choose, they both do what they're going for so well). Also some of my favourite visual metaphor he's put to page, super evocative and affecting.

Blood on the Tracks lost me so hard when Sei goes out in the snow in the middle of the night and finds...yada yada yada. I won't spoil it. The work seemed so creepily plausible up till then. Like this could really happen. Abusive parents like Seiko do exist. But then every event from the snow scene onward just stressed credulity too much.

What other manga works could you recommend that are similar to the works of Shuzo Oshimi and Inio Asano? I've already read everything about both. I was left wanting to read more dark, romantic coming of age's, with nihilistic touches and the flourishing sexual awakening. Anyway, thanks for reading and great video.

Happiness is my least favorite unfortunately. This one seems to be the sloppiest in terms of its psychology, with things that are told in flashbacks in a shoehorned and clumsy way. Relationships between characters are established or changed too quickly and feel unearned. At first I was intrigued because supernaturality seemed unusual for this author, but by the end I felt empty and disappointed, given how much I'd enjoyed Blood on the Tracks and Welcome back, Alice. I guess there are themes about religious/cultic zealotry and how religious delusion can push troubled people to the extreme. There's also some rather shallow exploration into how people with atypical life experience cope with their lives, but I think Interviews with Monster Girls does a much better and more wholesome job than Happiness.
