- Learn how to create a OCO bracket order in ThinkorSwim. This video also covers the other advanced order options and the method of saving an order template for future use.
I had to stop in the middle of watching to tell you how much I appreciate the clarity, timeliness and informational value of your videos. You have the rare gift of making complex ideas easy to understand. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Agreed! Excellent video. Clear and concise. Thank you!
Exactly i was going to do the same, thanks for the video
Really clear and helpful for someone not familiar with thinkorswim. Excellent video, thank you!
Yes! This was more detailed than some of the other ToS tutorials I have seen. Really appreciated.
I ended up in a short position trying to place one of these types of OCO orders (I'm still not sure how I managed to do that). Lol! Just want to avoid doing it again. Thanks!
Really like the teaching style: I haven't been using TOS for very long, but I keep finding ways to make and protect my money
Thank you!
I agree, compared to the TDA video explaining OCO bracket trade order setups, your version SO much better. You got me hooked, I just subscribed. Thank you.
I just finished watching the actual TDA version of how to set these OCOs up and it was very glitchy. So I'm pleased to find your video and I see that even one year to the day of when you posted initially, this has value. Thanks!
This such a great explanation and demonstration of how to place advance orders. Thank you!
I wish I had come across your UA-cam long before. Your videos are very helpful . Much appreciated!
Excellent explanation of this feature set! Thanks for demonstrating the functions here - it answered all my questions.
Oh, and change that battery in your smoke alarm.
Hah it’s been so long I’ve gotten used to the noise. Thank you for the reminder! 😂
Yeah. I stopped the video and walked around my house trying to figure out which one of my alarms was chirping. Then I realized it was in the video!
Thank you very much for this video. I can get bracket orders done on a number of other trading platforms but ToS always seemed to be a bit more complex. The way you've explained this makes total sense and is now completely clear. Thank you.
Great video very well done. Your cadence was perfect very easy to follow along. The order of your presentation was perfect and again making it very easy to follow your train of thought. Probably the best video I have seen on think or swim to date. Thanks.
Thank you, that means a lot!
Thank you for the time you took to make this very informative video - just what I was looking for
I’m glad I could help!
New trader here. This has helped me so much in my trading. Thanks!
Glad to help!
The last part of the video was just what I've been trying to figure out. Great explanation. I thought that was what I was doing but on demand it would not seem to go through. At least I know this is the way to save oco templates. T
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS!!!! THANK YOU!!
Great explanations... glad you go through multiple ways.
Thank you!
Great tutorial! I didn't know about setting up your own OCO bracket. That is really helpful! Again, thanks!😀
This video had all the info I was looking for and then some. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Concise, clear and informative video. Thanks !
Thank you!
Thank you for this detailed explanation. T really is extremely helpful. Can I use a combined bracket and trailing stop order? Set the Order Stop not to a Stop but to a Trailing Stop with the bottom limit order (the stop loss)?
Thank you for this video! I've been trying to figure this out! I knew it was possible haha.
Thank you very much. It saves my time and helps me a lots. Love it!!!
Glad it helped!
BEAUTIFUL. Thank you soooooo much! This helps tremendously!
Thank you, glad it helped!
Great tutorial video.
It's explained very well, step by step.
Glad you liked it!
I must say you make great videos to the point and concise. Concerning the OCO orders which you cover and where you can save a particular layout to sell 5 usd above or below the entry price. Can this also be done as a percentage of the entry price ?
Yes absolutely! You just to hit the little "+/-" icon and switch it to a percentage sign. Then enter percentage amount above/below the entry price you'd like to take profit or get stopped out at.
Great video. What about this setting an OCO order, say I do a market order & in a way I am indifferent about the price I bought it given it was based off some trigger. However, now I want to set a 5% price target with a 2.5% stop loss. Meaning the 5% is 5% higher than whatever I bought it at. Like this I don’t need to calculate the limit order exactly.
Mr. short-Strike;
Great job, thanks I had to watched few times to get it but yes, really educational video, thanks.
Respectfully;
Andy
Thanks, Andy!
Thanks, your explanation is excellent. I wish you would make a vid on 1st triggers 2 & 3 OCO orders. I keep getting them wrong. I want a stop on one side, and to scale out on the other. Any chance you can detail those steps for us?
It’s amazing to see someone explain something with examples. Truly appreciated. I’m curious to know if you select the GTC_EXT option, will this order be working during trading hours?
Sorry, just realized what video this was for. No, can’t do this for the after hours. Because it has a stop attached to it you’ll only be able to use it for the regular market session.
the best explanation! thank you
can you show how to trade stock and option on Active trader?
can i use active trader to buy Puts for option?
What if I want to set the buy for a higher price than the current price because I want to make sure the stock is breaking through an established resistance? What do I change the LMT to in order for the software to keep from automatically triggering the order because my limit price is higher than the current stock price.
I got it. Found what I needed. Thanks for the video.
Great content, exactly what I need
Thank you very much for this video
Perfect
very cool. thanks
If you do a buy custom (OTOCO), could you do a buy stop-limit with the price trigger above but not gapping?
Mr. Shortthe Strike;
Great job, your video is self explanatory, really easy to understand. Now, Can you make a short VIDEO with the same philosophy, and training but with PUT OPTION OCO, I get confused little bit in how to setup the PROFIT, AND STOP LOST. The one I am talking about is when you mention how to create your own TAMPLET when you highlight MSFT, BUY CUSTOM, OCO WITH BRACKET which is one of the easy way to do it when it comes to purchase the OPTION, or STOCK. Now, same procedures but with PUT, OPTION. I need to know how to setup the profit and the stop lost. Reason being is because we are talking about against the market, meaning that if it goes down, we still make money, thanks for your great videos, you are about the only one that have slowed down the video for the customer absorb information, God Bless you.

Awesome thanks for the knowledge. Question... can you show how to use a trail stop order? And also show how to use it in % and $ dollars.. thanks
Yes, absolutely! Until then, you just need to click on the +/- icon next the trailing price. From there you can toggle it to Ticks (futures trading) which looks like a stair case, but when you click on it a second time it will switch to percentages.
Great video, thank you! I have a couple of questions about the "Buy with stop limit" and "Buy with OCO" orders.
1. After I placed an OCO order, before it is executed, can I edit the OCO order as a group? It seemed to only allow me to edit each of the 3 individual parts of the order, eg. if I changed the number of shares in the buy order, the number of shares in the sell limit and stop loss did not change. Also is it possible to delete the sell limit from the OCO group after it is created?
2. For"buy with stop loss" order, after the buy order is executed, can I add a sell limit to the stop loss to make them cancel each other to make it an OCO?
wow, very cool man, very cool.
Great videos. Is there a way in advanced order to program a condition with a relative strength (SPX) . I just need to program that if the RS is on %Change higher than before (D)
Well done - all other how-to's on this topic by non pros should be deleted and/or reported as misinformation. Remember to like and subscribe to this.
This has been very helpful. Can you give a tutorial on creating your own oco template on the mobile phone? Is that even possible to do? Thank you.
Unfortunately, they dont have it as an option on the mobile app. Hopefully they add it in the future!
Thank you
... very helpful.. thank you
Very good.
GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you!!
Very informative, thanks
God Bless Thanks
URGENT QUESTION: is it possible to set OCO's on options or option spreads? and How? Great video btw!
Yes you can! It’s very similar but you’ll have to create them manually. When you have an order ticket open you’ll look in the lower left hand corner where it says “advanced order.” You can click on that button and switch to OCO or 1st trgs OCO. From there you can right click on the order ticket you have open and select “create opposite order.”
It will add the new order to you current trade and you’ll just need to edit it. You’ll then right click on the order again and click “create opposite order” one more time. You can then edit this one as well, then you’ll be all set!
It’s hard to explain over text, but I hope this helps!
Very informative. Can bracket orders be done with vertical spreads? If u have already done a video on that - please inform me. Thanks.
Yes, you absolutely can! I don't believe I've made a video on it but its pretty much the same process. Just create a vertical spread, go down to the lower left corner and flip to 1st trigger OCO. Then right click on the spread then say create opposite order!
130 thanks!
I created some Custom Templates while in AT window. But looks like they only show up while in AT. Can I make them show up in the Buy Custom menu from within Charts (or Trade, where they are also absent)?
Useful. Thanks!
And you can do the same thing (set-up and save) within the Active Trader.
I'm paper trading right now trying to use the brackets and for some reason my 10% trigger won't work any tips?
hI qUESTION? Does all the items continue trading when in groups like that. It seems only my unallocated ones change all day as the day grids on. Should all the options in the many groups continue to trade just as though they were in the unallocated box?
Great!
I noticed that there is a lock/unlock button next to the "Advanced Order" selection menu, what is that for? When submitting a 1st trgs OCO order, should it be locked or unlocked, or does it matter at all whether it is locked or unlocked? Thanks.
Could you incorporate Trailing stop losses with these bracket orders?
I think you could; I changed it to TRAILSTOP then I tried to save it but ToS crashed 🤦♂, I'm on linux but maybe their Windows version won't crash 🤷♂.
having a problem creating a Conditional BUY Order crossing below PG High or above PG LOW on the MONKEY BARS also using stochastic . any HELP ?
Thanks for explaining this, how would you do this using option contracts?

How do you put a stop loss for credit spreads
Great video bro
excellent video. Can you do the same video for options instead of shares?
Yes I can!
Hi, the last part +$5 $-5 means if the stock hits $5 above from the purchase price it will auto sell it, also if the stock fall under below $5 of the purchase price , it will auto sell it? Instead of typing the exact price setting, $83.97 and-or $73.97? But I try this on futures, the system bump me out. And the window brackets was way below the current price, I was doing market / +$80 / -$30 whenever I click buy , they system right away selling it. Can you please make a video where the bracket showing when you hit send?
Yep, in the last example I'm basically saying whatever I fill at, put a limit order in 5 dollars above and stop 5 dollars below. To be clear, this does not mean you'll be making or losing $5 when doing this on futures. Each future will have its own tick value. For example, if I did this on /ES that would get me out +- 250 per contract since it has a point value of $50. Is that where you're having issues or is it something else?
@@shortthestrike example, /YM I did $ value not tick value. I was putting market/ +$80/ -$20 system right away fill it and sell it, I don't see any bracket. I do it with the real money not on papertrade.
Just making sure, you're talking about = 80 points - 20 pts right? If you are, you may want to actually call someone over there. Seems like theres a glitch on your end. You should be able to see the brackets clearly
Very well made video. Do you have a similar one for Options too??
Not exactly, but its basically the same process for options contracts. I did make one specifically for the active trader side if you want to check it out! ua-cam.com/video/g3efCF-viwk/v-deo.html
Great video thank you. I have a question If I want to make an order for two weeks and to be only active between 2 pm till 3:45 pm, how can I do that
To create that you'll need to create a conditional order based on time. Here's a link to the video on how to create the time contingency ua-cam.com/video/T43nBw9_hg8/v-deo.html
Hi Sir, can this work for Options with multiple profit target?
Have you changed the battery of your smoke alarm? I can hear it on the background. 👂🏻
I can confirm, they've finally been changed!😂
hers my question let's say apples is presently at $200 but you want to buy it at $210 further up, will it wait till it hits $210 instantly or wait till it reached $210 and then buy it?
In your example you’d need to put in a buy stop at $210. If you used a limit order at $210 it would instantly fill at $200 because it’s below your limit price.
@@shortthestrike thank you for helping me out, greatly appreciated.
Question on OCO and using triggers - I already own 10 shares of a (NYSE) stock valued @ $10. Want to sell 5 shares @ $12 on LIMIT - if it drops want to sell 3 shares @ $8 on STP and if it drops further want to sell 2 shares @ $5 on STP and still have 5 left of the original 10 shares. Tried setting it up on TOS paper money as 1st trgs 2 OCO and also 1st trgs 3 OCO. It only lets me do the LMT entry and the first STP entry. Can it be done the way I described or do I need to do separate orders ? Thanks in advance for any response
Unfortunately, they don’t make it easy to create 2 OCO or 3 OCO brackets on positions you already have open. You’ll just have to enter them separately with different profit targets/stops.
@@shortthestrike Thank you for the information and your quick response - much appreciated
awesome video. Is it possible to do a condition OCO orders on options like for eg: I take 10 option contracts, if 25% profit, sell 3 contracts, 50% sell another 3 contracts and finally 100% sell the rest and SL if stock price hits a price , I want to exit at the market.
Sorry, just saw this! Yes, you absolutely can! This would be a 1st triggers 2 OCO or 3 OCO bracket order. Basically you’re setting multiple profit targets as well as multiple different stop activations. You can do it both the manual way with the order ticket or using the active trader!
good
Can you set the OCO bracket order for after hours trading? Thanks
Unfortunately, no.
Change your fire alarm batteries...Yeah I heard it.
Thank you sir, great video, how about a video about JUST PUT OPTION OCO, I am looking a video like that due I have problems how to set up the profit, stop loss. Reason why is that the videos that I watch have a lot of drama. I need a video that indicate, or let's teach and educate HOW TO PLACE A PUT OPTION ORDER AS OCO PLEASE, THANKS

Someone else asked this: Can ToS support a stop-limit order entry (with two prices, say 3 cents apart) with OCO limit and stop (for target and stop loss)? I know you can enter it manually and even save this as a template, but when I use the template to enter it on the ladder in Active Trader, the two prices in the stoplimit order are the same :|
The templates you make with the order entry won't carry over to the active trader. You'll have to recreate them over on the ladder then save them as their own template. You could make multiple brackets with different stops activations and limit prices!
is there a way to set a stop loss, with a trail stop and a limit buy?
As in you want a buy stop to enter into a long position and then a trailing stop to go out behind it once it fills?
@@shortthestrike yes, could I just used a trail stop instead of a stop-loss and a trail stop? I just want my initial risk to be 1 point when I enter my trade but would like to let my runners run with a trail stop once I'm profit
It would be great to see an example of the 1st trgs 2 OCO or 1st trgs 3 OCO. This feature of ToS is not as straightforward as 1st trgs OCO.
I can absolutely go over a few examples of this!
@@shortthestrike That would be fantastic! I have been having trouble finding any example of the multi OCO orders.
Does this work for options as well?
Yes it does!
Is there a way to make the template available on TOS mobile?
They don't have any templates for the mobile. Hopefully they change that it would make things much quicker
@@shortthestrike Especially since I am trading from my phone at work most of the time
Ceiling bird at 1:30 time to change that battery.
Does this work for options?
I wouldn’t recommend using stops on options, but you could use the OCO bracket if you wanted to. You won’t be able to do it from the monitor, instead you’ll need to create it manually on the trade tab. They don’t make it as easy to do for options, it’ll take a couple more steps on your part.

Are you serious? You recorded this while your smoke detector chirp was going off every ~30 seconds? Can't afford a 9v or don't know how to change the battery?
