Only ONE thing missing from Edelkrone (and simple to implement): sun/moon/star tracking. Can be done with an app upgrade. That would be a killer upgrade for astrophotography. IMAGINE the roll presented here fixed to the stars.
I dig your enthusiasm! I bought a slider and found this vid in my search for how to use one. After watching it, I returned that slider and ordered the Edelkrone. Lucky for me they're phasing out the V2 so I got it on sale. Thanks for this vid, and the other ones. I'm going through them as fast as I can.
Great video - the ability to use video mode to preview the final timelapse is a brilliant feature. Good to know too that the EdelKrone devices can withstand a knock or two as well.
That looks like a great piece of kit. like you say,the footage is very cinematic,reminded me of Robert Freck(?)'s work on Koyannisquatsi. I think he ended up building his own panavision cameras coz the time it took to get the perfect time lapse sequence made hire costs mental. Amazing how far tech has come in just the last thirty years. Love the channel. Cheers from Scotland.
This is great. I use the head 1 for my video work regularly especially for single person interviews with 2 cameras. It's like having a second camera person .
I love your timelapse photos. I have one from 1968 of a thunderstorm with lightning and a meteor shower at 03:00 AM in the month of August. The camera that was used Canon camera 35mm using slide color chrome.

What are your favorite lenses for astrophotography, I already own an A7 III? The 16-35mm 2.8 from sony is too expensive for me at the moment and the 24mm 1.4 is sold out everywhere :P . I like how ingenious this product is, especially with the slider, but unfortunately once you see the jitters in the footage, you can unsee it. A lot of the time lapse footage has slight stutters ever second or 2 and other users have noticed this with their video footage as well. I thought it would be less noticeable on your wide angle time lapses, but it's still pretty visible. That's a bummer... I really wanted something compact and simplistic like this.
Will you pack it in, showing us more and more kit!! lol. This looks awesome. I suspect it will be quite expensive but for the quality of work you produce I'm sure you'll more than get your money back. Great video as always mate.

I was looking at the Syrp Genie 2 pan/tilt and Genie 2 linear, but their equipment isn't serviceable. I can't consider dropping 3K on something that can't be fixed.

You should get an iOptron Star-adventurer, it is an equatorial camera mount that allows you to get long exposures on wide field things like constellations and even the milkyway. I think it would be cool to see shots of Orions gas.
Wonderful system and explanation, if not a bit laid back about it. You didn't quite explain how you managed the "holy grail" day to night transition. Or how the system sync with shutter actuation.

Amazing work, as always. A question does the app/your phone need to be connected to the system all the time while it’s taking images? Example, if you left it do you need to leave your phone along side ?
You download the Edelkrone app to your phone, then fire it up on your phone. When you put the battery in the Edelkrone, it sounds a beep, then the two devices try to pair with one another. Once paired, you use your phone to program the Edelkrone gadget. Once you've set the program going, the Edelkrone remembers what it is supposed to do. You can then take your phone out of range (or even switch it off) and the Edelkrone will just carry out doing what you've told it. You can also take your phone back near the Edelkrone and re-pair with the Edelkrone. The phone takes up the values from the Edelkrone; and it then shows you how many of tyhe planned images have been taken and it shows you how long if left. I have found this very useful for night-time timelapses; as you can set the system going, then get back in the car for a while to get warm again...
Are the heads heavy to carry, as the edelkrone slider bar itself?, Is it possible to set the begginning and the end of the timelapse manually, for more accuracy spot? Thx and very stunning time lapses you showed us. Good job
Really great. Been waiting for someone to do this review. This is the exact setup I have been looking into. Have you noticed any errors or bumps in the footage at all? Also once the time lapse is set and running do you still need your phone connected or can you walk away and come back later?
The motion is smooth, only one time there was a bump and it was because my tripod column slipped a little! And no you can disconnect your phone and leave it running, you can even use the same phone to go setup timelapses with other edelkrone gear somewhere else at the same time
Where do i find those pointy plants in Tenerife? I will go there in two days and i want to do a timelapse movie about Tenerife including the Milky Way. It is nice to have the plants as a foreground.

I’m curious how is the camera communicates with the slider and the pan head, so it maintains the 20sec exposure and moves within those 2 sec stops and goes to another exposure. Is there a cable that comes with the head that connects to the cameras?
Amazing as always! :D But I noticed that some of your time lapses are stuttering, I had the same problem until I realized that the timelines in Premiere had different fps settings, maybe you made the same mistake as I did...
Was looking for something exactly like this. One question: can the slider stop moving when a long exposure is being taken? If not, does it not introduce some motion blur?
Great video! The only problem that i have is that when i do long exposures like 20 seconds with the slider, my camera a6300 uses alot of time processing the image, which means i can only take 1 photo per minute when doing 20 sec exposure - when using the slider. But when i use the timelapse app on the camera there is no processing time on the app, it just goes off every 20 seconds which is how it should be. Can anyone help with a solution to that?

Put your GoPro on a star tracker.......perfect!
tecnically you can set the speed on the slider, a little calculation will help to determine the counter speed.

Yep you could use the MSM as it detects the sound of the sensor as a trigger so should work on the slider :) Sherpas 😂 can't afford a donkey

I really want the Syrp system as it seems more flexible. But after seeing this, I'll take a look at Edelkrone again.
Syrp just released new kit so you might be able to get the older stuff cheaper soon but it will have less features than this kit.

Also you can connect to the devices to see how long is left and how many images it's taken and it won't disturb the tl

Sounds like you have long exposure noise reduction turned on in camera. Turn it off and your images will process instantaneously :)
