    Everything seemed straight forward and basic but the decision making zone opened my eyes completely. That will make a huge difference in my game.

    Thank you thank you. I just played my first ever game. I discovered tonight that breakaways are scary! I've been studying how to stop breakaways via youtube all night to prepare for tomorrow's game! This has helped a lot.

    I wonder if this dude moves his hand around like that on casual conversations too, or just in this video.

    i would say the common mistake is making the first move. the game changer is a poke check

    thanks you guys for making this video, I do this homeschool hockey program that is an hour long including practise, so obviously not a league but I let in 5 goals, I know im very new to the goalie position it was the breakaways , one timers and screened shots that 100% got past. and because I don't have a coach I rely on these videos to coach me and I think im going to make that much more saves!!

    Make a video about wrap around! Please!!!

    • @TBrolyT
      @TBrolyT 8 років тому +2

      +Sebastien Brunet Easy... Make sure you are looking with your head turned sideways so you can see the puck (Easiest thing to try is in a practice put pucks behind the net and see how many you can find)
      Keep in your stance, stay on the goal line, keeping your chest facing forwards not sideways!! move post to post when player moves, if he goes right you go right turning your head right if he goes in your blind stop, you turn your head to the left making sure he's not faking you out don't not move until 100% sure he's going to the side for the wrap around
      If you go to power slide over (Butterfly slide) make sure your "boot" is nicely tucked in the net hugging the post!
      Speed is key

    Question, when the shooter is farther away, do you want to stand up taller? And then as he approaches, you get lower closing the five hole? Because I just wonder how y’all you should be standing

  • @richvail7551

    I’m not a hockey player but my 11 yr old son is a goalie. I like the video, just one question. In this video the player doesn’t shoot 5 hole when rushing in, it’s always a move to one side or the other. What happens with your technique if the player shots the put 5” off the ice straight into the gap of the 5 hole? It doesn’t seem like there’s much reaction time to close with the butterfly. Just curious. Thanks

    What if we are small? I am 5'6" and don't take up a lot of space in the net. Would I need to come out further than other goalies?

    • @GreatFreedom
      @GreatFreedom 9 років тому

      no same doing everythign proper youd still make the im 5"9 i look smaller compared to other goalie on my team ive had few breakaways on me just do everything properly your height wont be much a deal

    It would be better if you shown more, Like the decision making zone, There's one thing you're doing back hand fore hand
    Teach them how to recover on a deke...
    You cut twice
    Slow back into the crease
    Decision zone
    Goes forehand
    Power slide over
    Oh shit but he just went backhand
    Ahh I already power slid over... Fuck it
    Nah nah
    Where's the recover?

    I am frustrated with this video. There is nothing of value here. This video assumes the goalie has some magical power to know what a shooter is going to do. We can't know that. Without our defense anything can happen. We are the last line of defense. We have a defensive line for a reason. I an getting tired of teams depending on us and blaming us for every loss.

    • @turntsnacox9555
      @turntsnacox9555 7 років тому +4

      If you're tired of being a losing goalie, switch to be a baseball catcher

    • @itzmebytememaw
      @itzmebytememaw 5 років тому

      If y our looking for a magical power to make saves or read a shooters mind, your playing the wrong position. The video is meant to be instructive, may work for some may not. Just try it first.
