Great video. I'm 38 yrs old. 4yrs and some change ago I'd never put on ice skates before, first time was a father son game for my oldest' end of the year party. His coach taught me to skate soon after, then he put pads on me, so I could see what my son endures for his passion. I loved it immediately. I started playing pick-up 3x week. Weekends I'd go to the rink at opening and practice in pads. I was hooked and it was something my son and I enjoyed together. I became a Goalie Coach, learning as much as could, reading, videos, 2 day symposiums taught by pro Goalie Coaches anything to ensure on a hockey island, my son is trained and enjoys the practices and the sport of hockey to the best of my ability. At my son's encouragement, I tried out for a collegiate club team 3 weeks ago. I haven't endured something so physically and mentally challenging since my time as a very decorated combat Corpsman with the Marine Corps. I choked back vomit, dug deep, I wasn't gonna "ring out", I figured I wouldn't make the team, but the words, "I quit" or "I can't", was removed from my vocabulary. I made the team, and am starting our first game. Granted it's collegiate club D2 hockey, but as the oldest person on the roster, including the head coach by a year, my son is proud, and I'm proud of my accomplishment. Death before Dishonor.
Great story, I want to play on a rec team next season as goalie, I’m 32 and haven’t been on skates in nearly 20 yrs and never played net, your words are encouraging
Thank you. You have inspired me to go after my dream of playing hockey again competitively at 26 years old. I can't put into words how meaningful your comment is. Thank you.
Huge thanks for posting this video, i watch it all the time when I’m not playing my best. It brings me back to why i work so hard and love playing the position! I have the passion just need to be reminded why i do it!
EarRapeGoneWild i started playing tendy when I was 13 and now I'm 16.. my first season was horrible I let in average of 9 goals each game. Next season I was determined to make the select/travel team. I finally made it after a lot of hard work. As the years went by I didn't give up. I kept trying and now I play on one of the best AA team in the state. Never give up. Have confidence and when you fall or let in that shitty goal get back up... I did and I'm happy I did
I could listen to this a thousand times... Gives me so much motivation! I'll push for the starter spot this season for my hometown team in Germany. Thank you :)
I love this, I do not think I realized how much until I came back from an appendectomy. I am a 50 year old goalie, playing with guys half my age in a beer league. I've always been decent, but since my surgery something has changed. We win a ton now. And it's not because I work less, it's because we all work together.
When I was 3 years old, I began to enjoy the sport of hockey. However, my mom wouldn't let me play because she thought I would get hurt. It took 8 years, but I finally convinced her to let me play. I played my first game at 11 years old. I was by far the worst player for at least two years. I was criticized, made fun of, and bullied for two years. But then, I began to pull away from the other kids. Because I did not give up, I am now playing at the top of my age group. I am now 14 years old and I play 6 days a week on a AAA 15U Travel Team. Never give up. Not on anything.
Thanks for motivation :)👍🏻 i play for a garbage team and get +70 shots per a game and i always contend +4 goals :( and we lose every game and no one notices me even tho i have best svs in the league bcuz i play AA. I have no goalie coach in my town and never had any coaching and all AAA goalies get coaching in every frickin practice. I rather die than give up. Im from finland sorry for bad english
Thank you for this video I've been struggling with self-confidence, i was put from the starter of my AAA team to back up. I will take this into mind. Thank you, i will be starter again.
My boy is only 6 and was set on being goalie I just watched this and glad I did his self confidence was lacking and he responds so well to positive feedback. The part that killed me the most was the end about fitting a round peg in a square hole we always say that about our boy about school and such that stuck to me.
I call myself the ghost because in my home town they all knew I was a goalie and not once they have asked me to go play for them in tournaments from 2001 till 2023 I haven't played since then. so all those years I've waited and waited and trained to play. Or for them to ask me to play. every year I tell them hey if you guys need a goalie you know where to find me and nope. so I kept doing off ice training practice. years gone by and now it's 2023 and then fall came and now I'm in a hockey team since Oct 30 2023 and played 3 games lost the 1st game 11-7. but won 2 games 9-8 and 6-4 after the last 2 games they saw they way I played and now my home town wants me to play for them on the tournament that's coming up at the end of Nov 2023 I told my home town team you guys should of had me when I asked to play for, you should of had when I was good, you should of had me then. And now that you saw the way I upgraded myself to be better and NOW want me? you know what? I don't wanna play for your team anymore you guys treated me like a ghost then I am a ghost to you NOW. (Native GHOST goalie from Alberta saying hi to all you goalies on here LOOK UP GET UP and NEVER GIVE UP)
Last training session I got scored more than usual A teammate came to me, in the end of the training and said "perhaps we need to get smaller goals" Fck...
