    Last night I had a game and faced 7 breakaways, saving all of them! I also got a shutout with 57 saves. So that went well!!!

    Another solid video. I don’t really agree with staying at the top of the crease. I always preferred backing in with the shooter a lil. I just found if he shooter gets you to bite one way you have no way to recover.
    An hour away!!! Header down to Ottawa some time.

      Agree with you...don't agree with that at all. Should challenge, stay patient do a couple hard c_cuts back stay on top of the shooter. Don't want to ever be caught flat footed in breakaway situations

      superman6931 I just never wanted to be walked around or fake one move and I’m frozen on the to of left or right crease. Move back with the player try to make him run out of room.

      @@ryana3679 I have approx. 10 years of goalie instruction and we never taught goalies to stand flat footed. You obviously do not want to back up like crazy need to control your speed but want to be about a stick length-stick length and a half from the shooter

    Secret to breakaways; challenge the shooter until the "decision point" which could be just before the top of the crease. There you make your move working the angle of the posts, because if the shooter decides to change direction you're at the angle to quickly change direction as well. I like to look at my crease in that instance as a triangle. Two points as the posts and the other as the top of the crease.

    • @kurtisstacey3973
      @kurtisstacey3973 5 років тому +1

      If you dont play the angle of the posts sure you might make the save but you're way out of position if theres a rebound and if the shooter decides to change direction. No offence to you Trav but the few times you got scored on in the video was because of this, and you've gotta keep your gloves out more. Once you move side to side your gloves gotta stay out to eliminate the angle of the puck. Once you bring those gloves in you're opening up the net, which means you're probably gonna get scored on. Just some constructive criticism

  • @trenthegelheimer127
    @trenthegelheimer127 5 років тому +1

    Great video and topic. I'm not convinced though because like in this video, if I get scored on during a breakaway its because I didn't back up enough and couldn't reach the post with my skate as the shooter goes around me.

    • @lou_n3189
      @lou_n3189 5 років тому

      same here, often times i read the move but i just cant get back to my post quick enough, maybe it's because i dont rotate quickly enough too though

    Well, if you don’t follow the player, he’s only gonna have to drag the puck toward him to open up a lot of room and it’s also easier for him to get around you

    • @cycleplays2219
      @cycleplays2219 5 років тому

      Yeah, a good player will see you are stationary and accelerate around you faster than you can back up from a stationary position. I think this will work against shooters that don't pay attention or have already decided what move they will do, but I think players that watch the goalie and read them will burn a stationary goalie with their superior acceleration, but, I could be wrong. I'm gonna give it a try.

    Great video as usual. But what's with the "don't back up with the shooter" tip? You're backing up with the shooter on basically every breakaway in the video. And making some very nice saves as a result. Would you say your philosophy is to back in far enough that you can reach out with your foot and touch the post when you have to?
