I have been a goalie since I was 5yrs old, I am 55 now, stopped playing around 42. Must say he did ok. But I have always heard people say the same thing, oh! It nor a hard position, you just stand there and stop the puck. Until they actually suit up, and take their first shot. Then they sing a different tune. I salute those who have tried, and respect the position.
I remember us goalies being told by teammates that being a goalie is easy, our coach told the ones chirping to get in the net and try save his shots, safe to say they never said anything about being a tendy being easy😂
This is awesome! Thought I could play goalie until I actually suited up for a practice - maybe 15 years ago? - and got lit up. Nobody told me that some shots still hurt haha. Have never wanted to play goalie again…
I played net from 1st grade to sophmore year of college. Goalie survivorship bias requires us to do all of the stupid stuff like doing a round with our eye protection up because the mask fogged up early on so that we get knocked the F in the face with a ball or puck before we have people shooting them at 140mph at us. I have to always shout at non-goalies in net not wearing their protection. I got knocked out at like 11 I don't want you getting knocked out at 42 lmao. I can't believe i used to do this shit though. I'm 39 and all the falling and bending would kill me now. I really want to get back into playing but I don't think my legs can take it.
@@mj-np9syyou're a goalie, you've got this. I've been in net since '85. Butterfly is way less physically demanding, than we played back in the day. Pads are lighter, pucks hurt less too. With that said I do look forward to "chatting" with you at center ice when things get wacky.
Hey that is a .947 save percentage. Plus I would say 37 goals saved above expected. LOL. All of them. Great stuff. I miss playing hockey. Loved the video.
You inspired me to start goaltending. I am not actually on a team I take lessons and I have been working on my shots and skating and I was debating starting goalie and this just motivated me so thank you.❤
Being a goalie for six years and I can say that that is spectacular for playing goalie for the first time I mean he does definitely have the hands of a goalie
it's crazy there wasn't any contact really up until those last few seconds. in the mens league i played in guys were always cross checking and generally breaking every league rule with no consequences
I also went from top goal scorer to now 6 games in playing net while our main goalie is on IR. It’s actually really fun and I’ve gotten my goals allowed from 8 to 5 in those 6 games. I have 1 shootout win under my belt and when we do lose it’s only by no more than 4 😂
Greetings from Spain. I am an inline hockey player in Bisontes an Alcala de Henares team. When I can, I try to play goalie. I think knowing what a goalier does is good training for a hockey player. Tomorrow I will play goalkeeper. Thanks for your videos 👏
I've seen a handful of guys play very well their first time. I think they are way less focused on technical details of playing and just stop the puck however feels right.
We have a guy in goal for his first time the other week against the ladder leaders. Was an interesting game. He borrowed all the gear from the Zamboni driver.
Amazing to see a player take on being a keeper. It's not all about the quality of shots but having that many shots on any keeper in a game can be the reason goals go in. He did amazing but the real question is would he do it again 😂😂
When you know your angles, most of the time they're going to hit you with the puck. None of the other shooters could pick a corner to save their lives.
I was Haden at 14. They put the gear on me and made me face the girl high school team. That day and my my fist beating which co -incidentally happened in the same year have humbled me (or shut me up) for life.
i did this last year. hadn't played net in four decades. the warm-up nearly killed me. the pads and chest protector were like reverse claustrophobia; i couldn't wait to be back to my normal size again.
Geeze I miss the old beer leagues I played in...hadda stop. Doc's orders to prevent "rapid unexpected dis-assembly" of my knee or ankle. Played goal. Or out if the guys let me (never scored). Goalies have GREAT HANDS--just not when one of those baby sticks are in them! Yer dude Hayden did great! Get him some goal skates and you might have the best "legal" goalie in the league. Or just a guy who can't skate on flat blades...lol. Awesome vid.
I think Haden needs a goalie practice... but you guys under estimate the advantage of having a goalie out front....best shot blockers in the league lol
It's true, I used to switch between goal and defense and the practice in net was fantastic for blocking shots, tipping pucks away from the net, and otherwise being a pain to the other team's forwards.
If I was the other team, I’d be so pissed. Like “oh they’re so confident, they’re just gonna put the best goal scorer in net for his first time!? Screw these guys, let’s light em up!”
@@Whiskey.Tango.Actual I started last August, already on my 4th set of pads/glove/blocker. Started out buying used cheap stuff, which I found out why they were cheap. Then picked up some ccm 4.5. Could stand how they felt. Then picked up E-Flex 4s. Didn’t like the thigh rise or how they slid. Loved the glove though. Ended up with Hyperlyte pads and Mach glove/blocker. What a difference! These should last a few years. I’m thankful for sideline swap to get rid of all the old stuff. Have fun out there and keep the foam roller handy eh.
@@deevo3vp yeah bro. I am fortunate enough to have saved some cash going into this and the guy at the hockey shop convinced me to go straight hyper lite and they are amazing! My legs are *done* after games/sessions. Cheers man

Absolutely incredible athleticism from Hayden!! What a beast! Goalie is not easy to just pick up and play like that. 🔥🔥
It’s Haden
39 shots in two periods of a beer league game is wild.
39 likes for a reply is wild.

@@JxstNoob why did u type it out twice lol.
To be fair, they only play 2 periods in this league
Haden with the 0.947 save percentage 🔥🔥
😎😜
Everyone probably thinks it’s a bad percent till they realize the max is 1% for a shutout

If that was first time as goalie, he did a darn good job. Better than I ever did.
“He has the hands of a goalie” absolutely killed me 😂
Thank you for putting in all the time in your videos!
Played goalie once in my life. People got annoyed because I couldn't save a beach ball lol. Much harder than it looks. Hayden did a great job here.
GOOD JOB HADEN! Lol this was sick, love the goalie POV cam!

I SYMPATHIZE😂😂 I’ve only been on ice 9 times so far. And I feel stuck. The leg pad thing was pretty funny though.

Did the math, you got 940.6 save percentage. Really good for first time huh?😂
940? Bro never let one in lol

How far did you guys let him go before telling him his pads were on the wrong legs. Lol
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes he will have a shouot
Do u have ot?
Play goalie in a men's soccer league (different sport I know), but you have to be wired differently to know you are going to get blasted every game...
what level beer league do you play?
Flashing that glove

okay but why is Hayden actually good in goal
I still wonder why so many guys playing goalie for the first time mess the pads. I saw it at least ten times in my life, always had to warn them...
Jeg er fra NORGE!!!!!!!
I just starTed playing and it’s the ez thing ever
haden became henrik lundqvist
10:23 🥲🥲
ALL
My French teacher plays beer leauge his favourite team is the Buffalo Sabres
I mean, in this level of game, yeah it's doable. They are not even aiming.
I love in Ontario
Hes better than the starter😂
Omg
I’m a gold tender Two😊
gg good game sleeper goalie right there
How do you get so good in the world and you have no idea what you are doing
Are you a lefty or righty?
If it was someone in the box keeping shots it would have been around 25/30
Lol, I decided to strap on the pads at 38 yrs old. Sadly, I really enjoyed it’s the bank account didn’t after getting all the gear.
I just started again at 34 lol! Keep at it man! Goalie is so awesome! You're right tho, expensive!

90% of being a goalie is just being in the right position and getting in front of the shot. The other 10% is being a psychopath.
As a goalie….this is 100%
