      Ttt 333 if aliens come to earth they will first visit us by inhabiting the consciousness of a newborn baby. And then we will take that baby and cut off a part of its penis without anesthetic for no reason whatsoever and the aliens are gonna think we’re psycho and then nuke us from orbit. Starbucks tried to open in Australia and failed after a few years. After WW2, a lot of immigrants from Italy, Greece and Spain moved here and brought over espresso machines. Coffee and tea houses had existed before, and quickly adopted the Mediterranean style of coffee drinking. These days, it's pretty rare to see chain coffee shops here. Small independent cafes are on every street, they're absolutely everywhere. It's amusing that Australia has a really sophisticated cafe/bistro culture when we're not exactly known for being sophisticated or high brow. I really missed Australia's cafe culture when I lived in the UK.

      @@ImranZakhaev9 it's really sad to see coffee chains taking over. Their coffee is terrible an overpriced. In Australia they are very much in the minority. Usually (well, like me) on my way to the Metro station, I drop by a hole in the wall cafe (I think it's an old railway signal box that has been converted to a coffee window) and I know my barista and what time I'm normally there. I grab my coffee and then jump on the train. Starbucks is going to try and open again here, but only in areas with lots of American, Chinese or SE Asian tourists. The locals hate Starbucks and want it kept out of the country.

    For real though, that McDonalds advert has a point. I can think of at least 3 coffee places I've been to where the menu was completely unreadable. I don't mean like "Oh wow, there's a lot of choices", I mean like, there's a chalkboard 15 feet behind the counter, each item written in cursive, with no apparent ryhme or reason to where anything is. "Oh, this is sorted by the geographic region it came from." "Oh, we categorize our _art_ through the feelings they evoke. Our goal is to deconstruct what it means to consume caffeine." "Each of our items is named after a local who died at least 10-15 years ago. There are 8,000 items on our menu. The description for each is written in 8 point font under the 25 point text."
    I typically just end up asking "Big coffee with mocha?" and completely ignore whatever scribbles are slapped across the stupid, illegible board. McDonald's sucks at a lot of things really, really badly, but at the very least they have a human-readable menu.

      Oooh this post hits hard for me. Ive never been a coffee drinker, and when I did start it was (I guess crappy) coffee made by the worker who knew how to or wanted to work the coffee maker. So the only coffee I was getting for at least a decade was from office coffee, starbucks or mcdonalds. A few years ago while getting my car fixed I wanted some coffee, no starbucks around and mcdonalds wasn't far to walk, but a local coffee shop was closer. I walked in and what did I find going into my first local coffee shop...a large chalkboard behind the counter with each item written in different color cursive, items Ive never heard of, most of it I could barely read, and a line forming behind me (it was around lunch time). So I just ordered my basic when I did start drinking coffee, a regular coffee black three sugars, and moved on.

    • @uncommonsense_3602
      @uncommonsense_3602 2 роки тому

      @VaderxG What? Ummm that wasn't my point, and please don't think I'm disparaging the coffee scene. My point (and sentiment) was that I never was or have been a coffee scene person, so going into the coffee scene was always strange to me as an outsider. But no I don't like my coffee black 3 sugars, I'm just used to it (remember the crappy office coffee I said I drank for years). I would drink a mocha sweet whatever if I took my time looking at the menu, but I personally think its rude to holdup the line for those who do know what they want, so coffee black it is. Not the end of the world.
      But that is my point, I haven't learned the lingo because its not my scene and I don't think it will ever be. So I'm coming from an outsiders point of view who only drank coffee at work, with coworkers, or not at all. You know how I would order at Starbucks? (note I would always be with a real coffee drinker/coworker). I would ask what they're getting, say "oh that sounds good, how much is that," then I would say "heres X dollars could you order two"? Done!
      Again I'm not disparaging the coffee scene, I just found the post hit close as an outsider who wasn't or isn't an avid coffee drinker. So easy internet dude, your coffee scene is safe with me or whatever.... 😐
