my favorite of the year was definitely Galvatron II. he's a great mold, and the minimal paint still manages to pop. in a year where i didn't get that many figures, anything counts.
I gotta say while grimlock was insanely good my favorite figure I got last year was siege astrotrain. I had been uncertain about whether I wanted him or not mostly cause of the size, but it was your video on him that helped me decide to try it out and it blew me away with how much fun it is and I can't wait for blitzwing if it's done in the same style. And one more thing, thank you for doing what you're doing it's always a treat to watch and the way you make reviews isn't quite like anything I've watched in the TF community and I hope that the rest of this year treats you better.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad I could help with the heads up on astrotrain. Glad people finally give him the credit he deserves. Really hope blitzy Boi is just as good, or even better
I'm sure someone will make a replacement head. Doubt the figure itself will have anything like that, given the poor reception in T30, but upgrade kits always work well
2021 got me going FULL FORCE into collecting, to the point where my family thought I was wasting my money on “pointless toys.” However, I saw the boundless potential and beautiful engineering of Kingdom and had to pounce. All of Wave 1, every new figure of Wave 2 (Arcee belongs in the garbage), Wave 3 finally gave me a new Rhinox, Wave 4 and 5 gave me Waspinator and *Pipes!!* I only grabbed Rattrap from the Core Class, but he’s fantastic and making me want a Core Class Soundwave! And while I love messing with all the G1 characters I got (especially Huffer and Pipes, I cannot say how much I adore those two) I think my favorite figure I got this year was Netflix Cheetor. The paint job is simple and reminiscent of the cartoon more than the stock figure. The transformation is fun and simplistic. He’s crazy Poseable in both modes, on a beast former no less!! While I sadly think HasLab Victory Saber will have to meet me after my move, I am so happy that the rest of my collection will be there to greet him.
Damn, I know the feeling. Moving as well, which is why sometimes I have issues showing off comparisons and such. Fortunately for me all my orders are shipping to a friend, but I miss messing with my old figures
I can somewhat see where you’re coming from about Universe Starscream. Last year, I recollected the Burger King Zbots because of how much I used to love them when I was a kid and wanted to recapture that nostalgia by owning them a second time.
I really don’t understand what everyone sees in classics Mirage He doesn’t have a thigh swivel, his head is absolutely tiny, and he looks incredibly malnourished
The thigh swivel I'll give you, but the proportions are deliberately stylised. They work for this specific aesthetic. Sure, it'd fail miserably on a G1 version, but it works here
Dr LockDown, I'm thrilled to see Grimlock top your list, he's easily my favorite as well, actually the first time I've ever purchased any kind of upgrade kid as well for him mostly for the filler pieces, but even without them, he is one of if not the best grimlock's, surpassing even the MP for me. I'm looking forward to Sludge joining Grimlock and Slu(a)g on my shelf and I hope they finish out the 5 of them (Hell... can we get some love for Paddles too?!?!?)
I'd love a paddles too, but I dunno if they'd ever do one. Personally I'm most excited to see how swoop turns out. He's been in development for ages, so I reckon he's got some interesting engineering going on
26:42 Yeah, this was also my number 1 pick of the year for me, it’s just so god damn good and I am so glad that I have one and have 0 regrets getting it, it truly it’s a micro-masterpiece I’m really hyped for Swoop when he comes out since I love him more than Grimlock due to my nostalgia for the transformers: animated toy
13:21 The thing that worries me is that we won't get Armada Starscream in Legacy. We'll get G1 Armada Starscream, like we got G1 Prime Arcee and G1 Prime Bulkhead. it's...h
I mean, Armada has the same blocky aesthetic as g1, just with extra mechanical detail... which unicron trilogy toys already have. GUOP already showed how flawlessly UT toys fit into the new generations style. I wouldn't worry too much
@@DrLockdown That's fair, this is entirely a ME problem, and not a blight on the toys themselves. except maybe Prime Arcee, but that's more the fact that she's a pre-mold of a male character, and the mold doesn't fit as a fembot very well, rather than the mold itself being objectively bad. I grew up with RiD 2001 and the Unicron Trilogy, so each new Transformers Series to me was something completely new, even if the characters were the same familiar faces with some exceptions. I've been feeling a bit disillusioned by the lack of the Anime(sque) stylization and "Transformers, but xxxx" I've been longing for since Animated and Prime. Prime Wars and WFC are just...G1 with a hint of Beast Wars. Legacy had me excited for new Prime toys, and I was hoping for that Stylization to return, only to be greeted with G1. to those who enjoy it, I hope they do, but it's not for me. still need to pick up Naval Commander or Battle Sentinel once gas prices go back down to being reasonable.
Glad I could help. If you like TLK leader megs, I highly recommend giving the Voyager a shot. He's one of the best movie voyagers they've done, even compared to studio series
@@DrLockdown I have him! he's great but the leader just steals it for me, the size, the wing cape, the huge canon, the face plate gimmick and these HUGE wfc compatible flame effects are just my jam, plus I don't really care about this Megatron as a character, but the leader makes a perfect Megatronus to me.
@@DrLockdown he's a better representation of the design, a better transformation and one of the most clever voyagers of its time, but idk I just was blown at how much I liked the leader as a Megatronus/theFallen (I'll paint him accordingly). and it's mostly the flames that does it for me haha
Yeah the flames are nice, although I've always been a transformation guy. Love what they did. Probably also personal bias. I got him on a bad day and he helped me get through it
I bought two figures in 2021 MPM 10 Starscream and Studio series Grindor. Love both figures. Lady Luck was on my side as My Grindor copy holds together pretty well
I’m bored and rewatching the Doc’s old vids, and while I’ve HANDLED the Airazor mold, I’ve never owned it. However, now that we have Filch, I think it’s time to try my hand at buying one. I LOVE crows, and filch looks absolutely incredible.
My favorite figure in 2021 would be SS 86 Slag. While I missed the chance to get a Grimlock, Slag was a great introduction to the SS Dinobots and I can’t wait to get get the others (and hopefully backtracking on Grimlock) soon.
My favorite of last year is the premium edition of striker manus, and I honestly have you to thank for convincing me to pick it up. If it weren't for your review of the delta manus, I likely would've skipped it. I'm glad I didn't though
If you want a good mpm, I suggest getting the os ko mpm starscream or the ko mpm jazz. They are both really nice, and only cost me 137 and 68 aud respectively on AliExpress
The Sunstorm deco was absolutely the best for Galaxy Force seekers, and for the Titanium Series seekers too. They were two of the ones that hurt the most to lose when I had a house fire back in 2012.
In terms of figures I got last year, my favourite would definitely be 35th anniversary Siege Prime. I sold my ER Prime shortly after getting the Siege mould because to me, the Siege mould is so much better. And the 35th anniversary colours are incredible. Definitely one of my favourites figures in my collection.
Honestly, SS86 Grimlock also appears to be my number 1 favorite, mainly because I have a lot of nostalgia for him, but it also came from my distaste with the POTP Grimlock, mostly because of how clunky he was, not to mention uncomfortably small. It didn't help that my disappointment intensified when I got the third party FansProject Grimlock, which became incredibly loose pretty fast and not fun to mess around with. So grabbing Grimlock at a store shelf in fucking Meijer of all places, not even as a holiday present, just something me and my dad knew we HAD to get, no matter what. It helped the fact that even without the upgrade kits, even without the sword, and even with the acceptable casualty we call Wheelie, Grimlock was always my favorite, always something that I would enjoy playing with. I know I'm pretty late for the party in commenting and I don't want to get into specific stuff because a lot of it is personal and half of it is sad so maybe another time. I'm pretty excited for the rest of the Dinobots, which is a lot since it's sometimes difficult to get excited for anything.
Awesome video! Here's to more great figures in 2022! My top 5 figures last of year are MP-18+ Streak (one of my favorite characters in G1), MP-19+ Smokescreen, MP-39 Sunstreaker, MMC Optus Nox and MP-54 Reboost. Really glad to see Reboost made it on your list and I was always giddy seeing him with other figures. He really is the embodiment of classic Masterpiece design and I plan on getting Crosscut and Skids because of him!
Coming back to this just at the end of 2023, I really hope a wider release of origins bumblebee happens since the origins wheeljack is happening next year and we know he'll be able to store bee inside him
Do you know what happened to Lemon Tree Thrust? I checked everywhere and all I could find were some prototypes and renders of their Starscream from 4 years ago.
Had a kinda similair experience with origins bumblebee where I saw it in reviews, thought it was just another mid tier release that I guess would be worth gettin if I found one in person even if just for the really sleek alt mode, and then October of 2022 rolled around, and on what has become an annual trip to Virginia, I came accross an in-person aftermarket store and saw one on display. The guy sold me the one on display, a complete figure in really good condition, for $5 less than retail value because it didnt have the box, and now I have an origins bumblebee that I would've been down to pay full price for simply because it's that good.
You wanna know what figure I wanna see more than anything? A figure of Wasp from Transformers Animated. With as many Bumblebee molds I've seen, both mainline and third party, it is a CRIME that they haven't done Wasp yet.
@@DrLockdown Really freakin tragic, considering the amount of memorable characters it brought us, it feels more like they begrudgingly acknowledge them rather than embrace them. I think it's just that they don't wanna leave their comfort zone of G1 stuff at the moment.
As a kiwi who collects mainline (due to my budget) i really enjoy your take on all these figures, i like your honesty and how you approach the lines, keep up the good work, also, keep doing you, thats what keeps me coming back to these vids, your honesty on everything.
Given it was my first year collecting again my bests are a bit all over the place. Mp Reboost would definitely be up there given I was able to fix my QC issues, kingdom rodimus is a blast, and the nemesis primal repaint has to be one of my favourite figures to look at and pose even if the transformation is a bit bland
12:22 When this track came on I was for some reason excited by every word said and every frame you showed lol What can I say? Cybertron has one of my favourite soundtack in the franchise.
I'm surprised we aren't getting a Legacy Reboost or Mudflap considering we've gotten Skids in Wave 1, Burn Out in Velocitron, and Crosscut coming in Legacy Evolution.
Mudflap is unlikely. Hasbro said they're never going to do those characters. Markclonus even blocks people on Instagram who ask. Reboost is totes coming though. Just give them time. Crosscut is out first
I'm so sad hearing that Prime and Hot Shot didn't get the sales numbers HasTak were hoping, because Hot Shot was great and I'm still bloody upset I never managed to get Galaxy Upgrade Optimus.
MMC is doing a G2 Bruticus and I love Bruticus as a combiner and MMC seemed to be a widely loved figure set. Would it be better to get the G1 or G2 colours due to pricing or availability? (on BBTS it’s the company that i haven’t had shipping issues with) For my top 5 best figures of 2021 5: armada red alert 4: Planet X Thundercracker 3: armada skywarp 2: cybertron (08) Optimus prime 1: legends micron ironhide/demolishor with land military team
I really wanted to go for that G2 bruticus, but as said in the worst of the year video, I sadly had to cancel my preorders. I just won't have the funds for it this year as I'm returning to university
What is the Cybertron Prime on number 12 next to the Galaxy Upgrade? It looks like the original toy, but smaller, and I have the original so this one has obviously escaped my notice until now.
I can fully understand why this year is also exciting. This year I finally can fully focus on my grades to enter into university and get my dream degree. I truly hope this year will be the best compared to 2020 and 2021.
I straight up didn’t believe Lemon Tree Prime transformed, and I was sitting there scratching my head saying ‘but it doesn’t transform!’ …and then DrLockdown transformed it and my jaw DROPPED
Nuts that Origin Bee isn’t releasing down there. Here in the US he’s shelfwarming hard at my local Targets (likely due to overstock, not under purchase, but I could be wrong)
My top 5 of the year would go as follows: 1. Kingdom slammer, he's just so good, he rivals my MB-17 Meg-tyrano for best posability in my collection (Meg-tyrano doesn't count as a 2021 release sadly) 2. Kingdom cyclonus, hes just great 3. Kingdom skywarp, i like him more than airrazor 4. Kingdom sideswipe(as you can tell, i need to hunt shit from years back so that my lists arent so monotone), my first time expiriencing the mold and its so addictive 5. Kingdom dinobot, i this guy, his transformation is great and his modes are fantastic
I got slammer this year, about a month ago. Didn't think they'd be able to top the iron factory one, but through sheer play factor they were surprisingly able to
@@DrLockdown the saw, the articulation, the Design, the ok tank Mode, the sheer presence he exudes that only spinister really had before and fun factor made me in love the figure, i was suprised how good his posability was bc no pictures really showed him justice
Maketoys cross dimension Jetfire. He's a bit disappointing actually. The engineering ain't fantastic, and he's supposed to combine with Optimus prime but half the bits get left off during the combination
@@DrLockdown it's just dawned on me, you'll need 4 of them. My copy came with a diagram as to how to install them ( it took a lot of trial and error ) and I'm assuming yours didn't? If you've got an Instagram or something I'll be able to send you a photo of it
As a kid, I had the Transformers 2007 Movie Leader-Class Optimus Prime Sometime along the way, I got rid of it In college, I browsed, and found it on the cheap, and in good condition. It sits on my desk now, and it will never leave my possession again
I fully understand how you feel with the legends starscream at number 13. I was in a similar situation recently. Animated was my g1 and I grew up alongside it and I loved the SHIT OUT OF the Voyager Class Animated Grimlock but when I lost it as a child I was devastated. I may not have needed a new Grim Planet X and SS86 had me covered. But I couldn’t bring myself to not get it back just for the sake of nostalgia
Hey Doc, if you see this, since Ss102 got cancelled for whatever reason do you think the upscale Lemon Tree Prime is a good stand in? He’s only like an inch taller and has some cool accessories
It's hard to find out most of the time, but they often throw titbits during fan first fridays, and occasionally sculpt artists will clarify things on Twitter. Annoyingly TFWiki doesn't accept edits based on these sources. They're very 'clicky' with who edits their pages, so a lot of this information gets lost pretty quickly
My favorite figure of this year had to be potp optimal optimus. I had been looking for that figure ever since he was first released and honestly the figure truly changed my life. I finally picked him up in a secondhand store, and the shop owner revealed that the figure was given to them only 1 day before I picked it up. Since then it caused me to re-kindle my love of CAD modeling and has me on track to hopefully one day designing an official transformer.
I think it might be my bias against the play pattern. I had the same reaction with iron factory's rendition. Maybe I'm just not into optimal Optimus as a concept
Okay, best of the year: finally got my hands on a Newage Flipper in a job lot, a super longstanding grail of mine and still the best 3P Legends Bee, in my humble; Magic Square Motormaster was amazing even without the crazy transformation on the trailer; IronFactory Samurai Cyclonus filled a gap on my MTMTE shelf I never thought would be properly filled; and, Magic Square Huffer legitimately blew me away with how smooth and intuitive the transformation was and how neatly everything folded into this perfect screen accurate robot mode.
I was so happy last year when I got a reduced Magic Square Motormaster, Just because the box was damaged. The whole set ended up costing me £150. Of course Magic Square Menasor was my #1 last year.
Good show! Jolly good show! Favorite figures I got last year are SS86 Grimlock: bought it around the same time of my senior prom and totally worth the 50 bucks! TF Prime FE Cliffjumper: haven’t had the figure in years since I broke the bumper off my original copy back in the day. Got it used and don’t mind that it was. Siege Hound:chonky goodness Kingdom Core Soundwave:smol fun boi Prime RID Ratchet: wanted him as a kid but didn’t wanna wait 2 days, and got the beast hunters one at my toys r us. As an adult with a lil extra capital, he was a joy to get on the secondary market after a busy work week. Cheers and well done!
@@DrLockdown I had all the episodes on VHS as a kid and have seasons 1-3 on DVD now. My local Emergency Services museum used to have officially licensed Fireman Sam cosplayers for children's parties and school events.
I’m not sure I could rank all of them but here are some of my favorites: 86 Slug, 86 Grimlock, SS BB movie Starscream, kingdom cyclonus, kingdom blaster, SS BB movie soundwave, kingdom airrazor and kingdom tigatron
I’m glad I own buzzworthy origins bumblebee. Since I live in the US, I was able to get him for $30, which right now, is kinda a steal. It gave me something to do when I got exposed to Covid after my Mom tested positive (November 2021) This is my favorite figure I own it’s great
@@DrLockdown Oooh, I get it, haha. Also in terms of figures I'm looking forward to, I'm really interested in the new Blitzwing, seeing as I've never had one, lol
You all know why Grimlock won the list? Because as he would say "Me Grimlock king!" Great review as always man. Keep up the amazing work! Glad to see Planet x starsaber made it on the list minus his knees he's an amazing figure. And yeah I hope that the hasbro menasor is just like the magic square it would be a great combiner then. I think I'm looking forward to most is the iron factory stuff. The samurai line looks good and yes the combiner looks amazing. I just hope its the 6 members and not the 5 like hasbro did.
My back-collecting this year has been mostly Tokusatsu stuff, but I still picked up a few Beast Wars figures. Metals Quickstrike and Inferno (Scavenger) are my favourites so far.
@@DrLockdown I can't wait for the Scorponok reissue in cartoon accurate colours, it looks so good! The Transform Element version of both him and Rattrap are only £20 on AliExpress right now, so I'd advise getting them while you can. Wei Jiang Blackout is pretty good value for money there too.
Wow, funnily enough, despite how ahead of its time Peru Kill was, I feel it’s easily the weakest of the movieverse UT lineup. I’d love to see them release a 2.0 version of that mold in the future, with more detailed sculptwork and less hollowness in bot mode.
Oh, I’m not denying its brilliance; it’s one of my all time favorite MPM-style carbots. I just feel it’s been outclassed by later UT releases like La Hire and Nero.
Well, I said I'd do this in the last video's comment, so here are my Top 3 Transformers of 2021: Honorable Mentions: Kingdom Megatron, Kingdom Waspinator, Cyberverse Deluxe Shockwave 3. Studio Series RotF Starscream The Transformers movies were some of my first introductions to the franchise, alongside the 86 movie and especially Prime. I was browsing Facebook Marketplace right after Christmas and saw this figure alongside quite a few others (though mostly ones aimed at very young kids) for $25. I was expecting to like it, but lately I've realized just how brilliant the engineering is. It's genius, and even facilitates extra articulation. Mine is missing the panel to cover his head in jet mode, but it doesn't really bother me. I wasn't expecting to put him here after writing that last comment, but once I started this comment, it clicked. 2. Kingdom Soundwave When I was planning on getting into collecting in July, I initially planned on just going for Core Class to start. (Which didn't last long, as I acquired 40 figures over 2021, from Micromasters to Leaders) Out of all of them, I wanted Soundwave the most. He's my 2nd favorite character in the franchise, behind his logicalness Shockwave. I wasn't expecting to find him though, given how hard to find the fandom had said it was. But then, I walked into my local Walmart and went into the Transformers aisle for the first time in years, and saw one copy, resting atop a sideways Deluxe box. I fell in love immediately. He's the perfect figure to mess with, as I transformed him 30 times the first night. He's well sculpted, fun to pose, and overall a fantastic introduction to the toyline. 1. Kingdom Dinobot I had only seen a few episodes of Beast Wars before late July of this year, so I had no real attachment to the characters. While I was on a week long beach vacation in late July and decided to check the nearby Walmart's toy aisle. I had intended to get Core Prime (You know, sticking to Core Class and all), but I saw Dinobot and just caved on the spot. And I was just amazed. His sculpting and texturing were phenomenal, and I was enamored with the transformation. He was just so fun to pose and mess with. A particularly special moment was transforming him back and forth to pass the time during my hotel's power outage in a tropical storm. He's just about a perfect beast Transformer in my eyes. (Also was really funny finally watching Beast Wars and hearing his voice. Hearing what was essential the Overlord's voice from Ninjago threw me for a loop) Well, that's my top picks. As for 2022, I'm most excited for HasLab Victory Saber. (If it ships late 2022 and not early 2023) I happened to get some extra cash during the backing period, and immediately put it towards him. I don't have any attachment to his character, but I love what I call "hierarchical toys" (Basically a figure goes into a larger figure, which itself goes into an even larger figure, and so on) So, having 4 levels of figures with Victory Saber is sounding extremely appealing. Apart from that, I am really looking forward to getting the Prime figures. The show was my childhood, and while the Legacy updates weren't what I was expecting, I'm still drawn to them. Also looking forward to finishing Beast Wars with Tarantulas and Inferno. (Still need Terrorsaur) Lastly, I am immensely excited for Legacy Menasor. While I personally like Bruticus much more, I still like Menasor's design. He will also be my first combiner, and from Dragstrip and the description of Motormaster make it sound like a potentially brilliant introduction. And if we're talking about games, I'm immensely excited for BOTW 2. That, and Nintendo Switch Sports. It's the only Direct announcement I've ever had an oral response for. My dad and I must have played the original for thousands of hours, and I'm looking forward to playing this new one with him and/or my friend group. And so, my immensely long-winded rambling is done. Thanks for this video Dr. Lockdown, and I'm looking forward to your content throughout this year.
Thanks. Hope I'm able to do well. And yeah I had a MASSIVE reaction to the Xenoblade 3 announcement. If you like BOTW, I'd recommend giving the series a shot. The map was developed by Xenoblade's developers.
@@DrLockdown I am intending to try out Xenoblade. I tried to get Xenoblade Definitive Edition during Black Friday last year, but it didn't work out. Planning on getting it this year to try, probably before 3 releases. Also planning on getting Xenoblade 3, especially if I like the original. Would you recommend also playing Xenoblade 2 before 3 releases? I have a general idea of the story of the series, so I don't need to play it for that. The game just doesn't look as appealing as the first or third.
It's an interesting one. You'll probably either love it or hate it. That said, I'd definitely recommend playing 1 first. It's a standalone game that doesn't need a first game playthrough to understand, but there are neat little references and parallels that make it more enjoyable. Also if you do get it USE THE WIKI AND UA-cam TUTORIALS. The in game tutorials STINK in comparison to 1 and X, to the point where people had to datamine to find out what certain skills do
Wait… I liked this video… Can I still make my own list? And… can I put Legacy Arcee on it? I got way more figures… hell, I got goddamn Black Zarak, Legacy Motermaster… and Tarn. *WHY IS HE SO [this word wasn’t wheelie-approved!] GOOD?!* But still. I liked Leg Arcee. Y’all can dislike it. That’s your choice! But I’m gonna choose to put it on my list. It’s nice.
It may seem strange but my best pick for the year has to be mp 06 skywarp. It single handedly has the best jet mode of any figure official or unofficial. I could not recommend it enough
Hey Doc, did you see the new Victory Leo figure made by Planet X that has been recently revealed at the last TFCon? If so, are you excited about it or are you gonna skip it?
My Favorite figure of the year was classics 2006 Ramjet. I found the figure in a small toy store last summer, the first figure that I got that was from a line that I never got into, of a character I always had an appreciation for, there was no way I wasn't going to leave empty handed, so I bought him. Other figures that I got last year that are I really liked include, Kingdom Airrazor, Dinobot, Megatron, Rattrap, Earthrise Tigertrack, SS Thrust, Kingdom Tracks, etc.
As of March 12, 2022. I have had my tm2 Megatron (which is my Holy Grail besides Titans return Trypticon and RID 2001 Megatron) and I have to say this has been one crazy ass year for everyone
My personal favorite does include kingdom galvatron and the whole rodimus prime. The ark is also amazing too. I am in absolute agreement in planet x kadamos being number 2, it looks amazing!
Oh how much I agree on GUOP, initially I passed on him but every time I saw it my love for UT grew even bigger. Got him above msrp and don't regret it. As for toys from 2021 my top 3 is Rodimus, Grimlock and Galvatron (well I should have waited for Legacy repack but instead I fixed shoulders and removed BD). Also about Legacy Bulk, he's not that bad in hand, I would even say he's pretty good, plastic feels great, poses good and altmode looks amazing. Minicon ports are a little weird since we won't have minicons this year (- Megalo Convoy buddy). Still, Blaster like Cyclonus wins easily as best voyager from wave 1.
@@DrLockdown Funnily enough, Voyagers showed up in retail in France, Germany, Poland (I forgot the feeling of hunting in retail so it was nice surprise) and Iguanus showed up in UK.
Some of my faves from this year, no particular order: Kingdom Core Megatron Shattered Glass Megatron Robot Heroes Ravage POTP Nemesis Prime Reissue Optimus Primal G1 Beachcomber G1 Kup SS Thrust
I also did a top something list for this year and I had Grimlock and Slag in one category together because I just loved them for every reason you just said. They're both just so much genuine fun. For me at least, I hold them both in high regard and I just see them as perfect leader class figures. Also I've always wanted to ask this, where did you get the sword for Grimlock and is it still available?
26:05 look i have it and personally i prefer the studio cell one. Since well i feel scammed for paying for a massive shellformer that haslab and some friends said it was worth it just because of his presence.
I've loved everything kingdom gave us, I like terrorsaur, I was finally able to finish SS devastator as well as get a still in box combiner wars devastator got my hands on siege springer apeface and omega supreme who was my favourite titan I owned be fore getting scorponoc last week
I STILL haven't cleaned up the figures I got from a lot (they are super dusty and smell funny, not gonna play with them until I literally wash them) so I haven't been able to do a proper list, but...against all my expectations, I think my favorite figure of 2021 has to be Kingdom Grimlock, yes, not SS86, _Kingdom._ I don't know why, I just had the most fun out of all other figures playing and photographing him, that toy oozes charisma.
It's a laundry list of reasons, so I'll just link the twitter thread I made: twitter.com/Dr_Lockdown/status/1631904484401225728?t=SkXW9Xsrehfd6V6wnRKr_w&s=19
12:23 I personally believe these would sell better if they got there own molds instead of sharing them. But as it stands I one of these fresh in sealed box for the price of in between a deluxe and a voyager and as good of a deal as that is it's very sad to see a toy that good that cheap for whatever reason. 2 issues I have the wings are a little small and I wish the wheels on them where real

my favorite of the year was definitely Galvatron II. he's a great mold, and the minimal paint still manages to pop. in a year where i didn't get that many figures, anything counts.
It was a pretty damn good leader, and the selects colours pop HARD
@@DrLockdown goes to show a leader can be good even without the old size.
If Galvatron is so good why isn't there a Galvatron tw-
This new decade may be a nightmare to live in but I have a feeling it's going to be the best decade for Transformer toys🤣🤘
Yee. It's funny: great toys, subpar media
@@DrLockdown Honestly most of the best recent media have mainly been animation....Although the Oscars didn't feel the same way LOL
From the future : how right you were. Legacy has some bad figures but the good ones are fucking good
@@sirwheeljackimusiii4588 Right on man
I gotta say while grimlock was insanely good my favorite figure I got last year was siege astrotrain.
@@DrLockdown I hope, no matter how unlikely it is, that they put at least an animated refrence into Blitzwing
I'm sure someone will make a replacement head. Doubt the figure itself will have anything like that, given the poor reception in T30, but upgrade kits always work well
Power just went out my place so this lightened the mood a bit. Thank you for uploading this.
Oh dear. Hope it gets fixed soon
@@DrLockdown thank you
2021 got me going FULL FORCE into collecting, to the point where my family thought I was wasting my money on “pointless toys.” However, I saw the boundless potential and beautiful engineering of Kingdom and had to pounce.
It's good to reconnect like that
I really don’t understand what everyone sees in classics Mirage
He doesn’t have a thigh swivel, his head is absolutely tiny, and he looks incredibly malnourished
He's been in development for ages, so I reckon he's got some interesting engineering going on
@@DrLockdown I was set to pick up PX-07 Triton to scratch that its but it turned out to be a terrible figure....
I've heard mixed things. Not up my alley either way, but it's a shame. Planet X can do amazing stuff: kadmos is a perfect example
26:42
Yeah, this was also my number 1 pick of the year for me, it’s just so god damn good and I am so glad that I have one and have 0 regrets getting it, it truly it’s a micro-masterpiece
I’m really hyped for Swoop when he comes out since I love him more than Grimlock due to my nostalgia for the transformers: animated toy
Yeah he's been in production for quite some time. Eager to see the end result
Legacy had me excited for new Prime toys, and I was hoping for that Stylization to return, only to be greeted with G1. to those who enjoy it, I hope they do, but it's not for me.
still need to pick up Naval Commander or Battle Sentinel once gas prices go back down to being reasonable.
just giving my list here :

19 : tlk Megatron leader
18 : classics fracture
17 : kingdom Galvatron
16 : binaltech Shockwave
15 : Cybertron Optimus
14 : rts Lugnut

7 : g1 Cliffjumper
6 : badcube warpath
5 : Mp Soundwave
4 : g1 Overlord
3 : Autobot ark
2 : Hasbro Unicron
1 : Planet X Omega metallic version
first time I wrote every purchase of the year, mainly because of you talking about it as a personal journey memory.
Ah. I'm the opposite. Not a fan of the arms or kibble cape. The Voyager is my fave
Lady Luck was on my side as My Grindor copy holds together pretty well
Music at 14:43 ?
An instrumental of the fireman Sam theme
I’m bored and rewatching the Doc’s old vids, and while I’ve HANDLED the Airazor mold, I’ve never owned it. However, now that we have Filch, I think it’s time to try my hand at buying one. I LOVE crows, and filch looks absolutely incredible.
My favorite figure in 2021 would be SS 86 Slag. While I missed the chance to get a Grimlock, Slag was a great introduction to the SS Dinobots and I can’t wait to get get the others (and hopefully backtracking on Grimlock) soon.
I just hope they don't take too long with the last few.
My favorite of last year is the premium edition of striker manus, and I honestly have you to thank for convincing me to pick it up. If it weren't for your review of the delta manus, I likely would've skipped it. I'm glad I didn't though
Glad I could help. It's definitely a wonderful piece
If you want a good mpm, I suggest getting the os ko mpm starscream or the ko mpm jazz. They are both really nice, and only cost me 137 and 68 aud respectively on AliExpress
Not really interested in that design. Might get BB Optimus, but I'll DEFINITELY get blackout
I've seen the colours in person, even though I don't own them. They look pretty neat. Just not my thing
I'm fine with just one, since I already have T30 crosscut. Killer colours though
Coming back to this just at the end of 2023, I really hope a wider release of origins bumblebee happens since the origins wheeljack is happening next year and we know he'll be able to store bee inside him
15:18 Wait where did that trailer come from?! And the stuff inside?
It's the nemesis prime trailer with a sticker conversion set
@@DrLockdown
Oh.
Do you know what happened to Lemon Tree Thrust? I checked everywhere and all I could find were some prototypes and renders of their Starscream from 4 years ago.
Prime sold awfully so they didn't continue
@ Well that’s a shame, he looked pretty cool.
Yeah I've noticed that Hasbro seems to be allergic to animated at the moment. Tragic really
@@DrLockdown Really freakin tragic, considering the amount of memorable characters it brought us, it feels more like they begrudgingly acknowledge them rather than embrace them.
I think it's just that they don't wanna leave their comfort zone of G1 stuff at the moment.
Yeah it's getting out of hand.
I'm actually looking forward to getting Kingdom Skywarp for my birthday that's coming up!
As a kiwi who collects mainline (due to my budget) i really enjoy your take on all these figures, i like your honesty and how you approach the lines, keep up the good work, also, keep doing you, thats what keeps me coming back to these vids, your honesty on everything.
Thanks for the support :D
Given it was my first year collecting again my bests are a bit all over the place. Mp Reboost would definitely be up there given I was able to fix my QC issues, kingdom rodimus is a blast, and the nemesis primal repaint has to be one of my favourite figures to look at and pose even if the transformation is a bit bland
Nemmy primal was surprisingly lush.
12:22 When this track came on I was for some reason excited by every word said and every frame you showed lol
What can I say? Cybertron has one of my favourite soundtack in the franchise.
I'm surprised we aren't getting a Legacy Reboost or Mudflap considering we've gotten Skids in Wave 1, Burn Out in Velocitron, and Crosscut coming in Legacy Evolution.
Mudflap is unlikely. Hasbro said they're never going to do those characters. Markclonus even blocks people on Instagram who ask.
Reboost is totes coming though. Just give them time. Crosscut is out first
22:48 kingdom menasor?
Ah whoops. LEGACY menasor
I'm so sad hearing that Prime and Hot Shot didn't get the sales numbers HasTak were hoping, because Hot Shot was great and I'm still bloody upset I never managed to get Galaxy Upgrade Optimus.
You can find them cheap on Facebook from time to time
@@DrLockdown True, Facebook Marketplace has yielded some good results in the past for me. :P
MMC is doing a G2 Bruticus and I love Bruticus as a combiner and MMC seemed to be a widely loved figure set. Would it be better to get the G1 or G2 colours due to pricing or availability? (on BBTS it’s the company that i haven’t had shipping issues with)
For my top 5 best figures of 2021
5: armada red alert
4: Planet X Thundercracker
3: armada skywarp
2: cybertron (08) Optimus prime
1: legends micron ironhide/demolishor with land military team
I really wanted to go for that G2 bruticus, but as said in the worst of the year video, I sadly had to cancel my preorders. I just won't have the funds for it this year as I'm returning to university
What happened to Slug's horns?
Put them in storage by accident
What is the Cybertron Prime on number 12 next to the Galaxy Upgrade? It looks like the original toy, but smaller, and I have the original so this one has obviously escaped my notice until now.
I mention it later in the video, but that's the hybrid style version. It's a Legends scaled one before legends was a thing
I can fully understand why this year is also exciting. This year I finally can fully focus on my grades to enter into university and get my dream degree. I truly hope this year will be the best compared to 2020 and 2021.
Great video!! Love ya Dr.Lockdown
I straight up didn’t believe Lemon Tree Prime transformed, and I was sitting there scratching my head saying ‘but it doesn’t transform!’
…and then DrLockdown transformed it and my jaw DROPPED
Nuts that Origin Bee isn’t releasing down there. Here in the US he’s shelfwarming hard at my local Targets (likely due to overstock, not under purchase, but I could be wrong)
Thanks a shame. He's awesome
My top 5 of the year would go as follows:
1. Kingdom slammer, he's just so good, he rivals my MB-17 Meg-tyrano for best posability in my collection (Meg-tyrano doesn't count as a 2021 release sadly)
2. Kingdom cyclonus, hes just great
3. Kingdom skywarp, i like him more than airrazor
4. Kingdom sideswipe(as you can tell, i need to hunt shit from years back so that my lists arent so monotone), my first time expiriencing the mold and its so addictive
Yee the photos definitely make him look clunky
26:47 What figure is this? It looks stellar, and I want to see a review on it.
Maketoys cross dimension Jetfire. He's a bit disappointing actually. The engineering ain't fantastic, and he's supposed to combine with Optimus prime but half the bits get left off during the combination
I'm sure someone's probably told you already but if not, lemon tree primes batteries are LR621. I got mine from Amazon au for like $3
Nobody has, and I've been asking for ages. Thank you

No mine did, but it didn't state which batteries they were
@@DrLockdown ah ok, yeah mine did. Must be a revision or something
I got every figure in the kingdom line except for the ark and warpath is favorite
It is a good one
9:13 what's the song?
Running in the 90s, but using the Sega soundfont
As a kid, I had the Transformers 2007 Movie Leader-Class Optimus Prime
Sometime along the way, I got rid of it
In college, I browsed, and found it on the cheap, and in good condition. It sits on my desk now, and it will never leave my possession again
28:26 what happened to your slug?????
Didn't realise the bits fell off until after filming
Perhaps. I can't speak for the build quality, so I have no idea.
Where do you find out who’s engineered all those molds? I tried to look into it but I couldn’t find out…
It's hard to find out most of the time, but they often throw titbits during fan first fridays, and occasionally sculpt artists will clarify things on Twitter.
Annoyingly TFWiki doesn't accept edits based on these sources. They're very 'clicky' with who edits their pages, so a lot of this information gets lost pretty quickly
Hey doc, is that shattered glass trailer custom? Or did you buy it from somewhere?
It's the nemesis prime trailer with toyhax
Imagine they pull a Dragstrip/Deadend and somehow make SS Dinobots Vocanicus

@@DrLockdown crap.. they don't deliver to my country.. Thanks 🙂👍
Neither to mine. Had to use a freight forwarder
Neat choice. Personally never got into it, but I know there's a lot of love for that toy
@@DrLockdown he is a very charming figure, even without any of the dna upgrades
Yeah huffer is a surprising win. Not much praise for him, when he's probably one of the best huffers on the market
I was so happy last year when I got a reduced Magic Square Motormaster, Just because the box was damaged. The whole set ended up costing me £150. Of course Magic Square Menasor was my #1 last year.
Nice. I only paid the price of a deluxe for breakdown and wildrider
My favourite part of the video being the intro.
Good show! Jolly good show!
Favorite figures I got last year are
SS86 Grimlock: bought it around the same time of my senior prom and totally worth the 50 bucks!
TF Prime FE Cliffjumper: haven’t had the figure in years since I broke the bumper off my original copy back in the day. Got it used and don’t mind that it was.
Siege Hound:chonky goodness
Kingdom Core Soundwave:smol fun boi
Prime RID Ratchet: wanted him as a kid but didn’t wanna wait 2 days, and got the beast hunters one at my toys r us. As an adult with a lil extra capital, he was a joy to get on the secondary market after a busy work week.
Cheers and well done!
I want to eventually get more prime figures, but so far none really tickle my fancy. Haven't done enough research
@@DrLockdown good luck with eBay. Also if you want a consensus, watch Emgo316, his reviews are good.

@@DrLockdown I’ll be sure to consider that next time I go hunting. Is it an app separate from Facebook or not?
Nope. You just join TF selling groups on Facebook. That's it
Speaking as someone who grew up with it, great use of the original 1989 Fireman Sam instrumental music in the Artfire segment.

I’m not sure I could rank all of them but here are some of my favorites: 86 Slug, 86 Grimlock, SS BB movie Starscream, kingdom cyclonus, kingdom blaster, SS BB movie soundwave, kingdom airrazor and kingdom tigatron

Great review as always man.
Yeah all the leaks say he is, so fingers crossed
My back-collecting this year has been mostly Tokusatsu stuff, but I still picked up a few Beast Wars figures. Metals Quickstrike and Inferno (Scavenger) are my favourites so far.
I got some of the reissues. They were alright. So far I like Scorponok the best
Nah won't touch weijiang hide shadow. It has extreme yellowing issues, like the plastic Hasbro is using on some figures nowadays
Wow, funnily enough, despite how ahead of its time Peru Kill was, I feel it’s easily the weakest of the movieverse UT lineup.
I’d love to see them release a 2.0 version of that mold in the future, with more detailed sculptwork and less hollowness in bot mode.
Nah man I think it's fantastic. Not much they could improve on without sacrificing the transformation. It's brilliant in its simplicity
Oh, I’m not denying its brilliance; it’s one of my all time favorite MPM-style carbots. I just feel it’s been outclassed by later UT releases like La Hire and Nero.
Might be true, but unfortunately for me...I HATE the AOE designs for Prime and Galvy. I WANT MY DAMN VEHICLE KIBBLE!
Well, I said I'd do this in the last video's comment, so here are my Top 3 Transformers of 2021:
Honorable Mentions: Kingdom Megatron, Kingdom Waspinator, Cyberverse Deluxe Shockwave
3. Studio Series RotF Starscream
The Transformers movies were some of my first introductions to the franchise, alongside the 86 movie and especially Prime.
2. Kingdom Soundwave
When I was planning on getting into collecting in July, I initially planned on just going for Core Class to start.
1. Kingdom Dinobot
I had only seen a few episodes of Beast Wars before late July of this year, so I had no real attachment to the characters. Hearing what was essential the Overlord's voice from Ninjago threw me for a loop)
Well, that's my top picks.
(Still need Terrorsaur)
Lastly, I am immensely excited for Legacy Menasor.
The in game tutorials STINK in comparison to 1 and X, to the point where people had to datamine to find out what certain skills do
@@DrLockdown That's good to know. Maybe I'll try it out after finishing the first and third game. I'll have to see. Thanks for all the information.
All g
Oh my god I forgot “they’re not doing Flamewar” was a thing I just got mine yesterday Lmao
3:53 That's not how you say controversy😅
It's the British pronunciation. Australia uses both American and British. I just grew up learning that one.
@@DrLockdown Cool I didn't know that
Wait…
I liked this video…
Can I still make my own list?
And… can I put Legacy Arcee on it?
I got way more figures… hell, I got goddamn Black Zarak, Legacy Motermaster… and Tarn.
*WHY IS HE SO [this word wasn’t wheelie-approved!] GOOD?!*
But still.
No pick is strange. Everyone collects differently
I saw how you said SS Sideswipe is one of the best deluxes. How good is it and why makes him so good? I’m considering picking up the ROTF Re Deco
Great silver deco, killer alt mode, awesome sculpt, great articulation, smooth transformation, insane weapon integration: tonnes to like
@@DrLockdown I wish my copy didn’t have a QC issue, the pin is loose on his left leg but otherwise I love him such a cool design
Bugger. That sounds awful
Hey Doc, did you see the new Victory Leo figure made by Planet X that has been recently revealed at the last TFCon?
If so, are you excited about it or are you gonna skip it?
Gonna skip it. Already doing haslab star Saber, so it'll be fine for me
28:38 “oh there not doing her? That sucks!” Funny how life works.
At the time that's what the leaks said.
Think we'll get a review of Unicron? While I think Cell looks better the Haslab one looks better than I expected.
Hopefully one day. It's just a big project that would need a lot of careful planning
Almost sold my Kadmos this year, soooooooo glad I decided to take that listing off ebay lol
Oh dear. That was close
I feel tigertrack gets slept on. The matte finish is awesome
@@DrLockdown Though I had no idea his finish was produced in that fashion, I do agree.
As of March 12, 2022. I have had my tm2 Megatron (which is my Holy Grail besides Titans return Trypticon and RID 2001 Megatron) and I have to say this has been one crazy ass year for everyone
Definitely agree with your #1. He was the first Transformer I got this year and he has yet to be topped by anything I've acquired since.
Yeah he wasn't that early for me, but nothing came CLOSE to his fun factor
So did you get mpm blackout
I did.
@@DrLockdown is it good
It's fine
My personal favorite does include kingdom galvatron and the whole rodimus prime. The ark is also amazing too. I am in absolute agreement in planet x kadamos being number 2, it looks amazing!
And I too forgot about warpath
The Ark was one of the few ones I skipped. Not really a fan of that one, even after messing with a friend's copy. Pumped for black zarak though
Still waiting for him to release here. I've messed with leaked copies of the deluxes, but not the voyagers. Hoping I like him
@@DrLockdown Funnily enough, Voyagers showed up in retail in France, Germany, Poland (I forgot the feeling of hunting in retail so it was nice surprise) and Iguanus showed up in UK.
I've seen. So far nothing in Australia, and I'm importing from Singapore like I usually do anyway
Some of my faves from this year, no particular order:
Kingdom Core Megatron
Shattered Glass Megatron
Robot Heroes Ravage
POTP Nemesis Prime
Reissue Optimus Primal
G1 Beachcomber
G1 Kup
SS Thrust
Thrust was a good one. I just wish the mould was a bit cleaner in some areas. Love the new head though
@@DrLockdown same! I really like the transformation, it was a little confusing at first but once I got it I really enjoyed it!
I got it from nonnef productions. No clue if it's still available, but I'd imagine it is given its popularity
what about lagcy bulkhead
He wasn't out when I made this video
waited a long time for this! and it was worth it
26:05 look i have it and personally i prefer the studio cell one.
We do need the animation error line idea, and with that idea they could do the missing faceplate optimus with Earthrise optimus
That would be funny
I STILL haven't cleaned up the figures I got from a lot (they are super dusty and smell funny, not gonna play with them until I literally wash them) so I haven't been able to do a proper list, but...against all my expectations, I think my favorite figure of 2021 has to be Kingdom Grimlock, yes, not SS86, _Kingdom._
I don't know why, I just had the most fun out of all other figures playing and photographing him, that toy oozes charisma.
I think it's still a neat colour scheme. Personally my main gripe is the chest segmentation. I'm annoyed reprolabels didn't bother to fix that
TFSource is not a reputable store to buy from? I may have to go change some bookmarks.
It's a laundry list of reasons, so I'll just link the twitter thread I made:
twitter.com/Dr_Lockdown/status/1631904484401225728?t=SkXW9Xsrehfd6V6wnRKr_w&s=19
@@DrLockdown Thanks for the link. I will avoid buying from them.
Yeah it definitely has its shortcomings, but I still love it
All the figures I got this year were good (with one exception). The two most noteworthy were probably striker manus and animated blackarachnia.
i like both Grimlock and Slag. the only thing that annyoys me is the lack of swords
Yeah it is a bit annoying
