I have officially decided that this is a lot of work; therefore, I now love my walnut plastic style facia and will probably just stick a basic stereo in there when the time comes!
I wish!! I had it ready just in case it was fairly easy to do, but that ST170 oil pressure cluster also houses some other sensors such as the engine light, snow light and a couple of others. Basically, I'd need to rewire the dash, so this was way more than I was willing to take on.
tip for the reverse light: has a connector in left side in the boot behind the side carpet, that contains all back light cable in one connector (can see the connector for a moment in 13:58)..
One of the first upgrades I did to my MK1 Focus was install a double dinn Android head unit. It has an 'instant-on' feature, which was great, apart from the fact it was constantly bleeding my battery dry after only a couple days inactivity. I eventually swapped the red a yellow wire on the harness, I now have to wait around a minute for it to boot up, but at least the engine starts when I turn the key and not click click click... I also had to hack my dash to get it to fit, I didn't do it as clean as you though, and I did mess up a bit of the fascia while it was just hanging loose. I didn't suss how to get the steering wheel controls to work. My accelerator pedal has been popping out of the hinge while driving, pretty dangerous, thank you for showing me it's not difficult to remove that panel to get better access to try and fix it/replace it. It's bloody cold in the UK at the moment though and I don't have a garage, so I put these jobs off until it's warmer! For my reverse camera, it didn't really have any kind of fitting, so I used this amazing product called SuGru (it's like Blu-tack but WAY better) to mould it onto the rear chrome bar thing, which also broke like yours when I was removing it. Thanks for these vids, they are not something you would necessarily get a large audience for, so it is much appreciated by those of us that do want to watch them 🙂
Hey mate, Love the mk1 vids! I just had my RH side window regulator cable snap. Have worked out how to replace but could be a good Vid in future for all the followers!
Good job I've learned and did a lot from you Thanks a lot Would you be kind and show us how to change the injector of the car I kinda have the P0301 error and did a lot still have it Thanks again
Thanks for watching mate. My injectors are okay so far so I can't make a video on this just yet. But I'll try and do some research and will make a video in the future when it's time to change them.
Hi Erick, it is always unpleasant when the plastic hooks break or when you are forced to modify the originality of the machine to adapt it to a piece that does not perfectly match. However your work is always top notch. I respect you so much
A lot of work. I like the c/f wrap. I’m still looking for a decent shift knob myself. It’s very frustrating when aftermarket parts don’t fit properly. It does all look good though.
Yeah the fascia was the most work Andrew. I didn't like that I had to hack up the inside of the dash, but thankfully it all fits in well now. The Steeda shift knob I went with works well. I'd give it an 8/10 only because the rubber grip sticks out past the chrome cap a little, and you can feel the edge of it.
Appreciate you watching mate, and thanks for the comment. Check out more Focus Mk1 vids here if you ever need them: ua-cam.com/play/PLof3-wBOirGEWyRrHvNZ6NVJHgpAEn7y-.html

Amazing video as always. I hope we can see more Focus videos in the future. I wanna change my radio to this kind a tablet because my radio won't work anymore but its very expensive in Turkey.
Nice job Erik, the double din looks a hassle, a job I'm doing on mine soon so thanks for the heads up! The dash rings make the car more classy tho might fall off, had that happen once on my last set, a dab of glue fixed it👍
Thanks Marty, appreciate your comments as always. I'll keep an eye on the rings... with the double din, it's the aftermarket fascia that will be the tricky part. The dash will definitely need some trimming. Make sure the unit goes in all the way before you start plugging things in and screwing things back on - lesson learnt the hard way 😅
Was it worth it? Absolutely, making the interior a nicer place to be, may not add kw or handling, but it adds enjoyment factor. I’ve got one of those stereo units for the truck when I get to that part of the build. Love your work mate
Man i was waiting to see the part where you have to realise you have to choo half the dash to get the headunit in. I installed an Android unit jn my dads mk1 focus chopped half the dash apart to get it to sit inside

Nice work!, my notes, why did you not just wrap the original center console? it would have saved you all the carving as it fitted? And last, heads up! for all, rear handles, as on your car they brake off on all handles you can find on the scrap yard. i think i tried to remove 3-4 before i gave up. they are designed to brake. And what worse is the handle is ridiculously expensive at ford. If anyone know of a third party manufacturer for these handle I think it would be very helpful if it can be shared here for many people.
Thank you mate for the great comment. I hope some people can recommend where to find the rear handles. The best I could do is eBay. About keeping the original centre console, it did not fit my after market stereo because the hazard light got in the way.
Looking good. I'm guessing with the head unit already in place you can't screw the fascia back in ? Carbon wrap looks horrific though :o but at least you had a go.
Thanks Dan, yes that's right, the new fascia doesn't crew in any more - it just clips in. No rattles and it hasn't come loose so no complaints so far. The carbon wrap is growing on me 😅
Hey Scotty, I bought a used set from the UK eBay site. Over there the ST170 models all had these pedals, so they are often pop up for sale on there pretty cheap.
Boa tarde! Tenho um Ghia 2006, a bateria dele está acendendo e apagando a todo momento, tem ideia do que seria esse problema? Poderia me ajudar com isso?
Hey Edwin, thanks for watching 👍 these Ford Racing branded wheels are very rare, but try to find the Focus ST170 wheels in Europe, or the Focus SVT wheels if you are in the Sates. They are identical.
Awesome job! Question? I didn't see it on the video but how did you MOUNT the fascia back into its location? It is bolted on before but since you bolted the radio in how can you get to the bolts to attach the fascia back like it was from the factory? Love the chrome trim rings on the instrument and climate control panels! Can you get those chrome trim rings here in the States?
Hey Tony, thanks for watching I appreciate it! Only one guy that I know of sells the chrome rings and he's in Eastern Europe. But he posts worldwide and lists them on eBay. Check out the link in the video description. About the fascia bolting in, unfortunately the new fascia does away with the 4 bolts behind the stereo. So the new fascia just clips in. I didn't like this, but I must say that it's staying in place just fine, and no rattles at all.
I can't seem to understand. Do you NEED to change the spacier, or you can fit the head unit in the original one? And also can you help me with the wiring, i know said that you don't like it, but i can't find adapters. Does that mean i would have to cut the original harness?
Hi John, for the wiring adapter - have a look at the links in the video description. Also, the original fascia will not fit a double din unit. You will need an aftermarket fascia - link is in the description. I hope this helps and good luck 🙂👍
@john-markiliev4227 Happy to see that mate. The MK1 Focus is excellent to drive, and in fact better to steer that some newer cars. Hello brother, look for any: "Double Din 7" Android Auto Headunit" on eBay. It should fit like mine. After 1 year everything is still working great.
