    FDA approves Eli Lilly’s diabetes drug Mounjaro for obesity under new name, Zepbound.The US Food and Drug Administration approved the type 2 diabetes drug tirzepatide for use in chronic weight management Wednesday, making official the use of a medicine already widely prescribed off-label for weight loss. The drug, called Mounjaro for diabetes, will be called Zepbound for weight loss, according to a news release from the FDA. Made by Eli Lilly, it’s part of a new class of drugs that includes semaglutide, known as Ozempic for diabetes and Wegovy for weight loss, which have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years.
    Zepbound was shown in clinical trials to yield more than 20% average weight loss on higher doses over 72 weeks, stronger results than seen with other approved medicines. The FDA cleared it for people with obesity or those characterized as overweight with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure or heart disease, the same indication as for Wegovy. Like similar drugs, it’s taken as a shot patients give themselves once a week, and is recommended on top of a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise.

    This is excellent information; thank you. I've just started Mounjaro with good results so far (at the lowest dose) and no side effects. One suggestion: I nearly didn't watch this video because the sensationalist title gives the impression it's going to be a rant against Mounjaro. Quite the contrary!

    Tirzepatide allows me to make better choices with food. I can now eat unprocessed food, and can fast for 16 hrs a day. I have so much energy, I don't feel depressed anymore or easily fatigued. This medication enables me to take the path toward better health through lifestyle changes. I could never have done this without it! Thank god for very smart people for developing this drug.

    This was great for explaining how this works in people who are genuinely overweight or have diabetes. It totally has its place. But isn’t the recent issue that people who are not at all overweight, celebrities/influencers etc… are promoting it as something you can just casually do to get/stay super skinny. It is NOT that! That’s dangerous right?

    • @MsNooneinparticular
      @MsNooneinparticular 6 місяців тому +1

      Risks would outweigh benefits in those cases, yeah. Not necessarily "dangerous" unless you're actually anorexic/bulimic, or overuse it to the point of being underweight. Drug companies have been pushing the narrative that these drugs are inherently dangerous unless you're diabetic because they're WAY overpriced & there's a shortage. They treat insulin resistance and slow your digestion so if you aren't a serious overeater with indicators of insulin resistance (high blood pressure/sugar/cholesterol, PCOS, skin tags, a waistline over 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women) you'd do better the "old fashioned" way - i.e. appropriate calorie restriction & exercise which is not only risk-free but how we're supposed to live.

    I've been on Mounjaro off and on because of the supply shortage. Last year, I lost 50lbs or 11% of my body weight of 435lbs. Last month, my doctor put me on Ozempic because of supply shortage but I had a really bad reaction to it and stopped taking it. I had really intense nausea. I am feeling better now but decided I would go back on Mounjaro at the starting amount of 2.5 and not my last amount before I stopped taking it of 12.5.
    My only concern about going back on it is the mental health side effects that were not mentioned in the video. Besides depression, anxiety and insomnia, I suffer every Winter from S.A.D. This Winter was brutal due to the being more days of rain and overcast than in previous years. Could you do a video on the mental health side effects of Mounjaro? Thank you.

If your over weight and have back pain, pain and have swelling this would help. I HAVE NO CHIOCE I HAVE TO DO CARDIO, If your SMM is low you need strength training. This should help those who are not getting results. My nutritionist is amazing, she uses a machine called ImBody I highly recommend people do that. Compounding pharmacies are largely unregulated and risky. Just look up the FDA complaints. Some tests have come back that were salt based. They are like the supplement industry, and you really do not know what you are getting. Some of the weight loss companies such as Hims, also give you compounded 20% lower doses. If you have private insurance, just get the manufacturers coupon, and the price will be about the same.

    I stopped taking Semaglutide due to the slow emptying of my stomach contents, having to wait around 3 or 4 days on average to empty my bowels. During that time, I had to make do with staying bloated no matter how much I ate and having to wait several days before being relieved and repeating the cycle. I've heard that it may cause gastroparesis which could explain my issue. I may be taking part in a phase 3 clinical trial possibly for Retatrutide for the next 2 years. Hopefully I'm not on the placebo.

      of course not. However, there are layers here. No other first world nation has the obesity issue that we do. It is also not a coincidence that other first world countries have much stricter control over products that go into their food. Our government basically allows the food industry to create an environment that allows pharmaceuticals to flourish.
