  • Blind Contour Drawing is drawing the subject without looking at your paper.
You might ask why do this. It's excellent for hand eye coordination and will propel your observation to another level.
Cut a big circle out of some paper make a small hole in the centre for your pencil to fit through. Put the pencil through the hole and hold your pencil under the paper as if you were about to write with it. Now slowly go around the subject with your eye and let your hand follow. This must be done slowly and you must let your hand follow your eye not the other way round.
    OR
Ask someone to place simple objects into a brown bag for you feel your way around them. This is an even better method than the first as it brings all your drawing senses together.
Have fun while doing these exercises. They really do add some entertainment to your drawing journey and something you can do with your kids too depending on their age of course.
