11:25 I would definitely hang a picture over the bed. While the moulding looks ok it feels something is missing. A splash of colour in a painting of a garden would be soothing, pleasing and dress the area.
What a fabulous video! Can’t begin to tell you how useful that has been. Simple rules with clear examples of what looks right. You have just revolutionised my hanging of pictures, photos and artwork. Thank you SO much!❤️
Yes, agreed. Unfortunately, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I've bought many different pieces from around the world and now that I'm refurnituring my home, I'm lost AF!...
To me this is an amazing introduction to geometry and composition in architectural landscape disguised as a "how to" video hahah Great content! Thank you so much for sharing!!! Cheers and much love from México :)
WOW!! This was a great video. I wrote everything down and now I feel I can make my home a lot more cohesive. It was feeling so mish mash and caotic. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge.
I have a bare wall directly on the side of my dining table and don’t have a light fixture. I would like to position three canvases that are 16 X 20 my question is how high above the dining table should I hang them? I would appreciate any advise thank you.
You also might want to hang your art work a little higher over that mantle just in case you wanted to decorate the top of that mantle with say, holiday decor. When dealing with a longer wall in your living room, you sometimes can’t put a longer picture in the middle as there are air ducts in that wall. In my living room that is the case. I have a sofa on a longer wall, however, that wall has two air vents spaced out enough that you can’t place a long picture over that. So, what I have done, is get a large square colorful picture for the center & place a leaf metal art on one side of it, & a Sun shaped mirror on the other side. They are all hung to be even with the top of the middle picture. Why? To give space between the art work & the table lamp height. So, I think it looks ok.😉
Great video. I have a square window in the middle of my wall, which takes up about 2/3 of the sofa underneath . Does the top of window set the "shape" ... or do I let the top of the wall (ceiling)set the top....as I look to put art between the window and the edge of the wall to the right of the window...or I guess its less important how much room I have above and more important to set the art at 60 inches or so?
10:30 I think the problem there is that room looks goofy AF with that molding everywhere and bed pushed up against it. Love the rules for hanging artwork, great video
This is an awesome video. When you said ‘lecture’, I thought that was an overstatement, but it really is a well done lecture. I was in design school. Thank you. Question, what do you think about bland or boring art pieces on the wall? Like a picture frame with a solid accent colour inside, for a wall? I find some spaces (that may not need art), including ones your video, could get a such an art, not to pull focus but to ‘accent, the wall. What you think?
Thank you for the excellent information! What would you recommend for a hallway that doesn't contain any defined area to base the 2/3 rule on? I have so many paintings I would love to display them all. Does everything need to be the same subject matter such as all landscapes or do I have to have all the frames the same color or style or does that not matter? I don't want to do too much but I also love to display all the paintings because I enjoy looking at them so much.
I'm 60 inches tall, so I'm only gonna see the bottom and it's gonna be really painful and difficult to hang 😂. And I usually just nail a ton of nails in my wall when hanging collages, until I get it right, then my wall is totally pock marked with holes, but I can usually mostly hide the holes with the collage 😁. And I thought the rectangular pic looked superb above the fireplace between the sconces. I would never have thought twice. Looks like I'm in big trouble 😉
My aunt is moving into a new home and I popped in quickly to see it, her partner had hung some art work and it was terrible, too high, wrong shape and in some cases too small. It was all wrong 🤦🤦🤦. I mentioned it and gave them some of your tips 😉 hopefully he fixes his mistakes 🤞. Thank you for all that wonderful information 👏👏👏👏😘
Every UA-cam video should be this succinct

This is a great video that supports buying art that fits a space instead of finding space for a piece of art.
